AMD was expecting a 10-20% performance improvement over RDNA2, Navi 33 is a perfect example of this. it gets exactly the same performance as Navi 23 and uses exactly the same amount of power for the same amount of performance, this sort of makes sense as it has the exact same amount of CUs and shaders. they shrank the die using N6 so it was also at silicon parity. there was zero architectural performance uplift from RDNA2 to RDNA3.

Kind of off topic but any recommendation for a fairly cheap dock/hub to pair with a Chuwi Minibook X? It's a $350 laptop so I'm thinking $40-50 is a fair budget for a dock, need HDMI, Ethernet, 3+ USB-A ports, audio output would be nice.

in timespy a 7900xtx underclocked to 2.4ghz gets 32k. a 6950xt oc'd to 2.4ghz only gets 22k. its about 50% uplift but most of the work is coming from faster memory/wider bus.

non-zero chance that future GPUs in the lifespan of my build could make use of it in some way

>>
I have a hard time deciding between these two panels /g/:https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/compare/dell-g2724d-vs-aoc-q27g3xmn/41041/41611?threshold=0.1
They cost respectively 218€ and 283€ here. On one side, I wonder how real hdr looks like, but it's on a VA panel, and the vrr is dogshit according to reviews, on the other side I wonder if hdr and the other benefits of that AOC can be used for general purposes. Almost every site puts those 2 monitors in the "good budget" category.
>>
>>103300839
>non-zero chance that future GPUs in the lifespan of my build could make use of it in some way
Unless we see a huge performance uplift in the 90-series or you're buying poorfag 60 series cards with x8 lanes I really doubt it. Maybe if you're going to get the 8090 in 6 years you'll max out PCIe 4 but surely in 6 years you'd be able to justify an upgrade to AM6 anyway.
>>
Lads, is this it ? Buy GPU now or never cause muh tariffs ?
I use a 3060 TI for 1440p and i'm feeling the 8gbs of vram.
I used to own a 970 and it lasted me 5 years, almost 6.
What the fuck do i buy that lasts me 5 years at 1440p high and transitions to medium in it's last 1 to 2 years.
I live in Romania by the way but at this point markets are so globalized it doesn't even matter unless you live in Bangladesh or Argentina.

>>
>>103300851
even then, isn't the price difference between boards with and without PCIE 5 like 30€ at most?
all motherboards that have the features I want and capable enough VRMs for the future have PCIE5 anyways, so it's not really something to think about
>>
>>103300852
I would at least wait to see what 5000 series offers. It should release so early into Drumpf presidency that GOP will not have time to create the tariffs yet. Anticipation of the tariffs affecting retailers may also motivate Nvidia to lower the MSRP of the 5000 series.
>>
>lancool 207 replaced 216 in OP
Is it really better? I bought 216 last week for $100 but haven't done my build yet, could swap it out
>>
>>103300818
you're forgetting the fact the GCD is on N5 instead of the N7 of Navi 21.
an equivalent GCD using N7 would be 874mm2
that uplift is coming from the node advantage.
>>
I would ask /hsg/ but they seem to have disappeared for the moment.
is a lowly gt710 (kepler 2.0 version) good enough for transcoding muh aminays, or should I get an arc a3x0? it's all 1080p or less and I will basically never have more than one stream going at a time, so I don't need a full retard $600 space heater like a 3080 or something.
>>
>>103300871
nta but aside from PCIe5 (which, as mentioned, you won't need as a consumer) your requirements are satisfied by a €150 LiveMixer. Not to say that you should buy it; only that you're overthinking this. It's fine to overspec the board if you've got cash left in the budget - you never know what'll come up - but you should understand you're paying for speculation and not pressing need.

I'm struggling between the choice of IPS and OLED. Of course there'd be like a 500 dollar difference between these two options as well but should I just rule out OLED if I want to use the monitor for desktop usage? They're all bad at rendering text so it feels stupid to spend money on one for that
>>

How? You're not Mr.Nvidia. The best you could do is 99%. Even then there might be circumstances where the announcement at CES would not happen for some reason.
>>
>>103300943
>They're all bad at rendering text
This is such bullshit these days... We're still stuck with myths about panels from 4 years ago.
If money is an issue, rule out OLED, simple as, otherwise it's the least shit option to pick from current display market.
>>
>>103300919
Depends on the codec(s) you use. A GPU that old likely lacks the hardware to encode modern formats. Or it has it but, due to lack of software support, is horribly inefficient. Ran in to that problem on my old HD3000.
I suppose if you already own it the easy answer is to just try it out. If it works, great. If not, A380s are available with next day delivery.
OTOH if you're building fresh I'd probably go for something more recent from the get-go. Depending on the platform it might even be cheaper to buy a used CPU with a modern IGP.
>>
>>103300965
money is not an issue but I don't want to spend more than $999 on a monitor

Should I just wait for the 50XX series or do an upgrade now?
It would be something like this that's around $2100, don't think you can get it much cheaper here in Sweden.
>>
>>103300940
I know I'm overthinking this a lot. nothing is available to me right now so that's all I have to cope for in the meantime
guess I'll just buy whatever comes in stock first, B650/X870 SL or Nova

That's why there is a PSU buying guide included. There are too many PSU wattages, regions, and price and availability differences to include a list of PSU's. For instance, the Cooler Master V750 Gold i 750 W, one of the best 750W PSU's, is not available in the United States.

Also, tip, Corsair RMx 2024 line came out, so that is a safe bet if you want a good PSU.

>would this be the best for 1080p or 1440p?

5070 should be better than the 4070ti apparently. it might be worth doing the rest of the build and just using your 1060 until the 50-series is out
>>
>>103301028
Given that the 5000 series is probably less than 3 months away, you could probably stand to wait. That said, aren't they launching the 5070 first? it definitely won't be below 8190kr at launch.

You could buy everything you have in your kassa and wait for the gpu

>Is it really better?
Fair question. Yes, it is better. The 207 has roughly 5C lower CPU and GPU temps compared to the 216 in gaming workloads.
Techpowerup review: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/lian-li-lancool-207/8.html
GamersNexus review: https://gamersnexus.net/cases/lian-li-lancool-207-airflow-case-review-cable-management-build-quality-benchmarks

Gamers Nexus recommends using a 150mm deep PSU, but that is bs, as people can fit 160mm deep PSU's just fine.
https://old.reddit.com/r/Corsair/comments/1fy3xfy/corsair_rm850x_atx_v31_and_lian_li_lancool_207/

The main reason for removing the 216 is stock and price issues. No point in keeping it in the OP when stocks are going to dry up and prices will increase.
>>
>>103301088
Well they got delayed, and another delay seems unlikely, meaning a Q1 release date is pretty likely at this point.
I believe 4060 was slower than the 3070. But you're buying a 9800X3D, literally the best gaming cpu you can buy, seems kind of stupid to pay 6500kr for that and then cheap out on gpu?

Just get a cheaper CPU and the 5070, you'll notice a much bigger improvement in gaming that way.
>>
I've been getting random reboots and crashes and I narrowed it down to either the CPU or motherboard, really can't know which so I ordered both. If, for example, the CPU is bad and I try it in the new motherboard (if it arrives first), can it damage it in any way?

Anything is possible with defective hardware. A dead short between two pins could easily kill a mobo. It's pretty unlikely though especially given that your PC boots and runs somewhat - a "hardware killing" issue will usually do just that the first time around.

Yes. Gigabyte M27U and M28U. The 27 and 28 inch versions of one of the 4K displays recommended in the Op.

The M28U is currently on sale in America for $329. Very good price for a 4K display.

the 600 series is supposed to be the oldest gen to support nvenc, so I should be gtg with my 710 especially since it's like 5 years old not an original release so it should have a new enough feature set to be able to do at least the basics like h264 (as you may know the 710 is THE most rebranded/rereleased gpu in history, no exaggeration) but I suppose I'll have to do my research to figure that out for sure.
I wasn't planning on doing a new build, I mean I would like to, but just too expensive for me to justify it considering this is just a file server I'm adding jellyfin to. but I was considering doing a 11/12 gen intel build because it would be cheaper and for the integrated quicksync to make things easier, but 14nm+++++ burns too much power even on the low end and I know how stingy Intel is with lanes on the low end too so idfk.
I wonder that if I do end up going with an arc, it'll be worth it to spend a bit more and get an a770 considering that while it is 3x more than a a380, it's tdp is only 75w vs 50 for the 300s and it has triple the vram and way more powerful.

We don't know how murican tariffs are going to affect Europe. There's possibility that when the US market restricts itself companies will look for other markets to sell their shit and Europe is going to be one of them.

And with a discount because stores are going to be full due to supply excess, factories obviously aren't going to stop.

I'd say generally the build looks good, but just to make you aware you can get 4070S for as little as 500,but it is a dual fan model. I'd personally say that the 4070S doesn't need more than 2 fans because it's a relatively low wattage card but YMMV.

Yes that's likely. I just know how animefags are with their obscure codecs so I was cautious to recommend it wholeheartedly.
Seeing as you know the exact die revision I'll assume you already own it so no harm in trying it out.

>I wonder that if I do end up going with an arc, it'll be worth it to spend a bit more and get an a770
IMO not as a pure transcoding card and especially not for a single 1080p stream. I confess I don't know for sure but I don't even think the hardware encoder is any different on the bigger GPUs. Maybe if you needed the compute power as well?

I decided on a GPU to buy and was browsing storage drives before I went and finalized the purchase.
In the time it took me to compare prices on those drives the price of the GPU went back to normal. Unless it goes back on sale before the end of the week I'll have to grab the 2 fan model which is still on sale instead of the the 3 fan model I was planning on.

Not a big deal for me, but for those of you still on the fence about the GPU purchase consider speeding things along. Alternatively, wait for Xmas sales.

Prices are lucky to stay the same across the board, RTX 5090's cost will increase for sure.
Don't expect discounts from the RTX 40 series MSRP, the only question mark is the RTX 5080's price but I'm guessing it will cost around $1000 and $1200 or more for the eventual Ti/Super.
More if the 5080 Ti/Super uses cut-down GB202 dies.

That newer daisy chaining method that lian li pioneered and then some other brands are copying. dumb question probably, but if a mobo has an x16 and 4 x1 pcie slots (both wiring and physically), is there a product to be able to combine those x1 slots into a single x4 wide slot of whatever physical size? for example to add a x4 nvme adapter for full speed, or 10gbe or whatever.
I know there are ones to turn an x1 into an x16, but only for a single x1 slot.

I really hate the current state of the monitor market.

You either go super budget and get a 200 dollar IPS/VA monitor or you have to jump up to 800 dollars for OLED. There's no in-between, there's only low range and premium these days.
>>
>>103302532

What's wrong with people? 25 years ago you wanted a nice display, you pumped out easily over a grand for a good CRT, that's without accounting for inflation

No, as you won't be blasting the fan on full speed and it heavily favors fans with a top speed you won't use as it is too loud.

Something like 20-30. The Noctua NF-A12x25 has 55-60. Other fans with higher CFM aren't necessarily better. Arctic P12 fans are fine for your use case.

I recently put together a case w/ a bunch of Phanteks D30 fans, and they have a daisy chain connection type. It is pretty slick.

>>103301915
The ones I mentioned, each fan has bumps & notches on the edge for alignment, then there are plastic clips that snap in the sides where two corners meet.
Once connected they're pretty rigid. You can hold a stack of three fans by the very end, and the assembly stays straight, doesn't flex downwards.

it kinda is with how bad it's implemented in games, there are like 3 good ones and some (like cp2077) still need RenoDX to work properly.

Currently running a Ryzen 5 2600, RX 570 8GB and 16GB 3200 MHz CL16 RAM, on a B450 TOMAHAWK MAX motherboard. I honestly don't play many demanding titles, and besides playing Fortnite and other similar multiplayer games, I only plan to upgrade my system in order to play Dead Space (2023) and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. The Ryzen 5 5600 is currently at a Black Friday price of £79.18 from Amazon UK (low enough Irish people like me don't pay custom fees), is it a good enough upgrade to at least get better frames in Fortnite and give me a decent CPU for the demanding single player titles once I upgrade the GPU sometime in 2025?
