We know the price for labor and how long it takes techs to build and test a PC. Even if you bill labor at something ridiculous like €150/hr it would still only be a €300 premium on top of the parts. €5000 would mean a premium of about €2000-3000 on top of the parts. This is simply ridiculous.
>>
I'm not convinced the performance gain of an X3D card is worth the up to $200 premium on it compared to other cards? The benchmarks I'm seeing for intensive games in YouTube videos makes it seem like the difference can be like 12 frames at most basically? Do I really want to pay $18 per frame when it's already going past 120 with frame gen ?
>>
>>103303027
Both RTX HDR and AutoHDR will never be good options until they're actually able to differentiate the game render from the UI. It's particularly jarring in games that have white UIs.

the prime benefit is enabling wide color gamut in games that dont have a wide color gamut. it transforms games like half life 2.
>>
>>103303170
A Ryzen 7600 or 12700KF can work with a 4080 Super just fine in most AAA games. A X3D chip is worth it if you play CPU intensive games like Factorio, Baldur's Gate 3, Path of Exile, etc.

If you tell us your budget we can help you pick a CPU that fits your needs and budget, but you neglected to do that.

What? HDR doesn't do that in HDR games, only AutoHDR does that
>>

I really don't have a budget I'm a 24 year old with a relatively high paying job who's willing to throw some money away early in my life. But my dad also raised me to be a penny pincher fucker so I don't want to pay a big premium on very marginal gains.

By the way, I have a full time job as an accountant. So I know I don't have 3 brain cells. But I don't have anything to prove to you and you're probably an unemployed fat fuck since you post NSFW anime.

>enabling wide color gamut in games that dont have a wide color gamut
It doesn't do that unless you boost saturation, it does inverse tone mapping (SDR->HDR conversion) but colors stay mostly within the sRGB range (so bt.709).
If you're curious you can install Lilium's HDR analysis with Reshade, it'll read the HDR PQ data from the game in real time.
>>103303271
>HDR doesn't do that in HDR games
HDR does exactly that in HDR games. The UI shaders are separated from the render to make it possible for you to control the brightness of both.
You would never want a game's UI to be as bright as the game render, usually it's at your paperwhite reference brightness (ideally 100nits or 203nits if you're in a brighter room).
>>
>>103303298
>HDR does exactly that in HDR games. The UI shaders are separated from the render to make it possible for you to control the brightness of both.
ESL? Read my post again

>You would never want a game's UI to be as bright as the game render
Exactly, only happens with AutoHDR games, not games made with HDR in mind
>>
Are Seagate Skyhawk drives any good compared to NAS drives? They seem to be rated higher for writes? How do I compare them for reliability?
>>
>>103303310
I think you might be the ESL.
>only happens with AutoHDR (and RTX HDR*) games
Which is exactly what I said. Read my first post again.
>>
>>103303280
The gains all depend on resolution and which games you are playing.

You can build a fine PC for less than $900 these days. I think this could be appropriate for a first PC. And very cost effective.

Mostly just minor optimizations for "surveillance" use i.e. constant writing and infrequent reading. Probably what gets them the higher write speed (if it even holds up in real world use). I have read that they don't check integrity as often, since video artefacts on CCTV are nbd, but there's little hard data on the matter.
As far as reliability goes, you, as a consumer, don't have enough combined-use-hours to tease out the differences. Plus you (hopefully) have RAID to obviate the problem.
With price equality just buy the one indicated by the manufacturer - IronWolf for NAS, SkyHawk for CCTV. For a small NAS where price per drive is less significant you'd be fine paying a little premium for dedicated NAS drives. If you're building a big one, say 50TB+, and the SkyHawks are noticeably cheaper then go for them.
Also don't discount other manufacturers. Your data integrity is solved by proper RAID setup not by 2% differences in AFR.

>>
>>103303505
if you want more performance while cpu bound then upgrade to a 9800x3d now. otherwise upgrading anything else aint gonna do shit. you're memory bandwidth bottlenecked in AAA games so a 4070 super performs just like a last gen amd card, hence they tell you to turn on upscaling to put less burden on the controller.

>>
>>103303520
As someone with a ZFS mirror setup I'd say that it's kind of overkill for only 3 drives. The extreme integrity provisions are great but I miss the inability to add drives to the array and running it without ECC RAM feels sketchy. There's workarounds, of course, but they feel a bit hacky for a home server. Not the end of the world, mind you, and maybe justified if your server is going to grow into more than a basic NAS.

>There are some off brand hdd for like 10 to 15bux for 1 to 2tb and stuff
>There are only 2 manufacturers right?
There's three main ones: WD, Toshiba, and Seagate. Who knows how many small Chinese outfits are operating with discarded tooling though.
Seagate has the worst rep but honestly it's only partially deserved. The critical thing to understand is that your reliability is 99% down to proper redundancy and 1% from picking the "right" manufacturer.

How bad are the remaining bottom-of-the-barrel 9800x3d + AIO bundles on jewegg? There's some corsair icue ones and an msi mag coreliquid. I do actually need some cooler, and I'm not that picky about aesthetics, so as long as it works, it feels worth getting the CPU at MSRP. 420mm is overkill for autists. 99% of AIO customers buy a 240, 280 or 360mm.

Also, someone buying a 420mm radiator would not shop in this price class anyway.

If you want a case with support for a 420mm radiator, the Antec Flux Pro in the OP offers this. Other good candidates are the Fractal Torrent and the Lian Li Lancool III.

Yes. Mini LED is more of a slight upgrade over LCD/LED (IPS).

OLED is an entirely different tier. The next step up from the old high tier plasma screens like the Pioneer Kuro and the high end Panasonics.

If you buy an OLED TV or monitor, it will last you 10-20 years.

I'm searching for 140mm fans to replace my current 120mm fans, since my case can accommodate them.
Been reading hwbuster case fan articles for days now and I've come down to a few choices
1. Arctic P14 Max for pure performance in airflow and static pressure in 40 dBA
2. Lian Li Uni Fan 140mm non-LCD for good airflow but low static pressure in 30 dBA
3. Noctua NF-A14x25 G2 140mm for balanced airflow and static pressure 30 dBA
>https://hwbusters.com/best_picks/best-case-heatsink-radiator-fan-picks-hardware-busters/
I put in the noise level of these fans because I have a UPS in my room with a fan that spins all the time with a 50 dBA level. It's been here for 4 years now.
Static pressure stats @ 40 dBA
Arctic P14 Max: 3.99
Static pressure stats @ 30 dBA
Arctic P14 Max: 2.13
Noctua NF-A14x25 G2: 2.1
Lian Li Uni TL 140: 1.7
I can just ramp up the P14 Max for absolute best performance, but that would just add more noise in my room, so I'll probably make it spin between 70 to 80% in PWM
As for Lian Li, I'm considering the TL 140 because of RGB that will surely pop in my O11 EVO XL case.
The LCD version has higher static pressure than the non-LCD. The LCD one is expensive.
Noctua's also within my consideration, but like the Lian Li, it's also expensive. But since it's an optimized fan for noise-normalized performance and airflow, it's still a good contender. It's just the price is so high.
All things considered, if I'm just aiming for pure performance and no fuss and frills, I would get the P14 Max.
Pic related. Best airflow in 140mm fans at max RPM

This video is leading me to believe there's basically no advantage of QD OLED against modern WOLED.
https://youtu.be/fkGtsatPGT4
Anyone object?
>No graininess on latest WOLED, this is basically a boogeyman now
>QD OLED has green and magenta highlights very close up due to the pixels
>WOLED strongly outperforms QD in moderate ambient light due to blacks raising on a glossy screen
>Only a slight loss in color saturation on WOLED, which is mainly just noticeable with contrast set to higher than realistic color
>>
>>103304088
There's a considerable gap.
When I was searching for an OLED TV two years ago, I'd go around the mall looking at the mini-LED and OLED TV's they have on display.
The blacks on OLED are truly deep inky blacks.
Contrast ratio really is infinite.
There's no halo effect on stuff like this pic >>103304142

If I want a new card thatll last me at least 8 years again should I just go for a 4090? I dont think the top end of the 5000 series will physically fit in my case and I dont want to replace it

That's nice and all but these AIO's are only a liability. They don't offer increased functionality over a $40 thermalright cooler and are more likely to break, which would mean you need to replace the unit which is only added wasted money and time. I guess if you NEED the CPU now for PoE2 or something yeah buy a bundle. Personally I am waiting.

>You should expect that the only difference between the UNI Fan TL 140 LCD and its plain version would be the lack of a small LCD screen, but this doesn’t stand.
>Lian Li boosted the speed on the non-LCD fan, probably because it had room for a stronger motor with higher power consumption, from the moment the screen’s power consumption wasn’t in the equation.

Path of Exile does not run well on old CPU's. Especially not at 60+ fps lol. The game is notorious for stuttering and frame drops.

For Factorio, the game will start slowing down based on the size of your factory. You can postpone this with a better CPU. Ergo, better CPU = bigger base.

My only experience with OLED is my Asus work laptop that has one. It's 15'' and not supposed to be that great of a panel but I fucking love it. It just looks so clean.

Now I want one for my desktop so I'm in the same position as you... I already compromised once before with VA panels before OLEDS were even in the market and I'm not doing it again.

OLED doesn't just benefit gaming at 4K. It can also be nice to have in 1440p gaming and media consumption.
>>
>>103304627
>aren't those 4k oleds too much
Don't get a 4k OLED if you aren't on a 4090. 4k DLSS Performance doesn't look that much better than 1440p DLSS Quality.
>I'm leaning towards the aw2725df at 1440p but i want to know if a better alternative exists
All 1440p 360hz and 240hz use the same QD-OLED panels. OLED doesn't use overdrive or other vendor-specific settings, so you can buy the cheapest one and it'll be fine
AW2725DF has the best factory calibration and Dell honors warranty like no others. Warranty time doesn't equal quality service, LG and ASUS are particularly dodgy at that.

Don't overthink it and get yourself the Alienware, you won't regret it.

If the price isn't that different, go with the 4K monitor if future-proofing is in your mind (ie. upgrading your graphics card).

There's lots of 27 and 32-inch monitors to choose from.

Hi /pcbg/, I’m building my first pc for Christmas and am looking for 2 SSDs, one 256gb for my local drive and one 1TB for the drive that will be designated for my program files (such as game, applications, etc). I’d want to choose a brand that is well known and trustworthy, and is also more affordable. I’ve heard that crucial is a good choice, but it seems like their lowest size is 500gb only. So any recs for brands that have both 256gb and 1TB available is appreciated

Country: US
Budget: no more than $70 for the 1TB SSD (after looking at Amazon it seems like most 1TB SSDs are around $60 right now)

I've watched this review as well of the Noctua G2 fans.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5LSGuSRg9A
Skip to 20:00.
The title basically sums it up. It's optimized for all types of situations. Case fans, radiators. It'll do the job.
However, it's not a fan that can brute force its way up to the charts.
Since I'm looking for pure performance, I'll go with Arctic.
I do like Noctua's customer support, though. One of my NH-D15 fans developed a grinding sound. Noctua told me they'll send me a replacement for free, but I have to render the defective fan unusable.
So I went and smashed it with a hammer, recorded it and sent it to Noctua, and then they gave me my free replacement fan.
They even gave me free clips for my NH-D15 when I asked for additional ones because I wanted to attach a third fan to it.

You might have to find one with a CPU-less BIOS flash option available because the 5700X3D is a relatively new chip.
The boards below supposedly have the compatible BIOS installed.
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/YhtLrH/gigabyte-b550m-aorus-elite-ax-micro-atx-am4-motherboard-b550m-aorus-elite-ax
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/wjXV3C/gigabyte-b550-ud-ac-atx-am4-motherboard-b550-ud-ac

If you live in a different country, go to PCPartPicker select "Builder", add the 5700X3D CPU in the build, and then search for motherboards within that builder page.
It will let you know which boards have compatible BIOS installed at the factory.

Why exactly do you need this instead of the almost $100 cheaper Steel Legend? Are you really going to use 5 M.2 slots and do you really need 5gb lan and a 20+2+1 power phase design for a fucking AMD chip (lets not pretend it isn't the lower powered x3ds for most people here)?

because I'm not a poorfag, why would I bother saving $100 after buying a $600 CPU to pair with my $1k+ GPU?

5 maybe not, but 3x at max speed for sure. would also like to keep the pcie slot without sharing it because

I currently do have 5gb internetand will be upgraded in a few months to 10gb fiber, so I'd like to be able to add a 10g SFP pcie card

this I agree but that's how it is. I wish they'd do a Nova Lite with the same phase config as the Steel Legend but with some better I/O and push the prices down a bit
only mobo that has super good I/O without the overclocking nerd features is the Pro Art Creator from ASUS and that shit is $600

It's cheap, easy, and shouldn't affect the thermals.

You can save a good bit of money by going for Arctic instead of Noctua and bequiet. Same performance league for way better prices. Also 64GB of RAM is overkill for Skyrim. Even with a crapload of mods you won't ever exceed 20ish GB. Also 4 sticks are not optimal for stability. Just get a 2x16 kit. Also I recommend the Lian Li Lancool 207, it's a bit more expensive than the Corsair but has an excellent airflow setup in that you can install two 140mm fans directly beneath the GPU. Tremendous perk for silence and longevity.

Even after install it is impossible to enable bitlocker without either uploading recovery key to onedrive, saving it to external storage or printing it.
You can print to pdf or xps virtual printer and save file to local drive if you really insist on having no recovery key backed up.

The 5600 has the same single core performance as the 5600X/5700X but is usually cheaper if you're on a budget. The 5700X3D is not the same chip as the 5700X.

The 3050 is a trap, the 6gb card is 60% slower than the RX6600 which is usually only $20 more expensive than the $170 3050 6GB.
The 3050 8gb is 20% slower than the RX6600 and $200, the RX6650XT is $230 and 4060 tier.

Looking to upgrade from ryzen 5 3600, MSI 1070, handing it down to a family member probably or keeping it as a spare.

Budget/country: $1,600/USA

I game, but nothing graphic intensive, however it is nice to have the ability to play games on higher than mid/low settings, I play PoE and Gachashit like Genshin Impact, some deadlock, indie games, no AAA titles b/c it would look shit on my current PC. I like a quiet PC b/c I'm not a fan of noisy fans. I don't do much production or CPU intensive things, but I like having that capability in case something interests me. Build I'm piecing together:

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz 8-Core ProcessorCPU Cooler

Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE 66.17 CFM CPU CoolerMotherboard

ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2 Micro ATX AM5 MotherboardMemory

Samsung 990 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State DriveVideo Card

Can someone explain GPU pricing to me?

I went on PCPartsPicker and was looking at the 4080 (because the 4090 melts connectors). A genuine NVidia 4080 costs $1800 ("founders edition"). OR, I can buy an MSI/Gigabyte/ASUS/Zotac/RandomShit branded 4080 for typically $1100-$1300.

Look, I understand that NVidia makes all of them, but what do the others remove/delete/fuckup in order to make them "worth" $600 less than the original manufacturer? Is it actually worthwhile buying the NVidia, or will any 4080 perform roughly the same?

Note, I'll be waiting for the 50xx series to come out in January, hoping to get one with 32GB because I want to do bigger AI image generation. I'm just trying to get some understanding for WTF the pricing is so weird.

Not my pic, BTW.

The FE is being scalped in your region, it doesn't justify that cost premium.

Avoid the cheapest models, these will generally run louder and hotter with very little (if any) extra power limit set aside for overclocking.
Avoid knock-off FE designs like the MSI Super Expert.
The product engineers @ NVIDIA spent more resources optimizing their dual axial fan designs

Even budget gaming monitors have basic VRR implementation that works with both FreeSync and GSync.
There are more expensive additions like GSync Pulsar, but these monitors matter to people who mainly play competitive fps and are good enough to leverage the benefits.

It goes both ways though, their 4090 Suprim was reviewed very well by TechPowerUp with a $1700 launch price, and even the OC version was hard to find throughout its entire production cycle.
I'm pretty sure that review and component analysis helped the 4090 Suprim sell so well.
https://www.techpowerup.com/review/msi-geforce-rtx-4090-suprim-x/3.html

The only better air-cooled 4090 was the Strix @ $2000.
MSI sends card models they are comfortable with being torn down by reviewers.

thanks for pointing that out, think it was just me blindly copy and pasting the Storage text. I updated my build to include the 9800X3D and swapped out the storage and ram for the same ones >>103306490 this build uses

Silicon Power UD90 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive

Silicon Power Value Gaming 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30

Now I'm just gonna sit on this build until blackfriday/cybermonday comes around and if nothing changes I'll do an early christmas gift to myself

Used mobo or new?
I have a old Ryzen 1500x, and 4100, and busted my mobo and/or 4100 trying to swap heat sinks I think.
In my country, the only new B450s available are the Biostars for ~$50 USD, the used Asus or Asrocks are like ~$90 USD. Which should I buy?
I want to sell the old CPU but I wouldn't feel right doing it without at least a check boot so I want to at least get the system back up once. I might keep the 4100 if it boots properly.

seems like a cope
Intel relying on mobo makers to make their chips perform as they should since the 12-15th gen then turn around and blame them for their shit chips blowing up
>>
>>103307258
We'll care about Intel when they start designing better chips, new desktop chips aren't expected to launch until '26.
>>
>>103307275
so wtf was the point of this new socket? i see they've learnt nothing from 11-14th gen and still using E-cores which fucking SUCK ASS i disabled mine
>>
>>103307287
>so wtf was the point of this new socket?
to piss on consumers

Intel's foundries are still in a mess, their nodes aren't delivering the expected performance & production yields.
That is fucking up the processor design teams because Arrow Lake was supposed to be an Intel 20A product, but the designers had to port it to TSMC 3nm.
There are rumors Apple is considering Intel advanced node designs in the future, but they are not out of the woods until the ink is dry on the supply contract and Intel is mass producing these chips at acceptable yields.

Is there a webtool you can use to see if your future gpu will be bottlenecked by your cpu?
