Is there any reason why networking with open source devs on github after contributing to their bugfixes and features wouldn't circumvent the gay ass Linkedin rat-race?
>>
>>103307191
H1B is already a completely ridiculous concept.
The US is a developed country while also being the 3rd most populated country on the planet.
Taking those two facts together, how can there possibly be """skilled labor""" that they can't fill domestically? The entire concept is a scam. If you had a functioning political system, this H1B concept would have never even become a thing to begin with. It's so obviously a scam that it makes one wonder at how anyone takes it seriously. Everywhere you look you find endless proof that Americans are fat gay retards.

i'm graduating next month. i'm in texas, working at (a big chemical company). i did an internship in the summer and i've been working remotely part time this whole semester continuing that. i spoke to my boss about getting contacted by recruiters and if he wants me to keep working with them after graduation. he says he'll get it taken care of. i feel like i have a good relationship with him and we work well together.

how much could i realistically expect to get paid, and how much should i ask for? they're paying me 25$ an hour right now. i've been doing neural network stuff and there's not really anyone else in the office doing this type of work. my boss got the go-ahead to like, investigate potential applications for AI right before my internship started, and i was tasked with proving viability, so i've been doing a project that could be feasibly scaled up. they had me and some other interns sit in on this meeting where ultimately they got approval to build out a server with a couple H100s, which is now in progress.

i mean to say that strangely i'm the only one out of the people i work with who is actually working on this, and i figure it would be expensive and time consuming to train someone else to get to the point i'm at now.

how much should i ask them to pay me?

not true either, but good thing I don't hire my immediate peers then. This is how it works, you put the DEIs on some obscure track and watch them trying not to drown. You can save the day any time you want, and you can add 'mentoring' to your own career development arc.
Truth is, no one cares, MBAs just want to feel important and organize mtgs, worker class people just want to coast, hell even csts don't want new features and overhauls. Any work getting done is merely coincidental

>the us supports everyone everywher and were talking our ball & going home!!!!
or maybe the privileged position of being far away physically from its enemies is less of an advantage now that there aren't as many major wars starting and the other major powers are too economically intertwined and detached from actual production chains to start global conflicts over individual oil drills anymore, on top of american consumer goods historically being more expensive than they're worth (even american brands are generally just something produced domestically under license)

even beyond that every post in that series is wrong
>1946: the usa puts together an alliance
patently false
>the navy secures free trade
if there isn't a war on you don't need carrier groups trundling across the atlantic constantly. even then, most cold war era conflicts were ground wars
>oil is cheap in the us nao so the saudis btfo!!!
oil has always been cheap in the us and that shit flows like water. shale oil proccing is also not only 400 years old, but is still quite expensive. the us just has fucktons of oil in it, but also uses fucktons of oil. being a company propped up by finance, it also imports the oil for re-export
>protecting the world for "nothing in return"
even its involvement in wwii was for profit and american military equipment owned by the DoD is leased, not lent or given. military operations have transparently been to defend commercial interests since the cold war
>no other navy can protect shipping
the largest dangers to shipping are piracy and it's mostly the EU doing anything in places like the gulf of aden
>importing migrants to cover tax bases
importing jeets and niggers is a net loss; they're mostly poor and get tax rebates, assuming they pay taxes at all. they are being imported to secure voter bases, not money.

Best for what? The customers? The investors? Why would anyone care about them, if they are going to jump ship in a couple of years. Resume driven development all the way. Also, if you don't spend your development budget, next year you will get a cut. Perverse incentives don't help either

How do you get the nerves out when you don't really have much to do at work? Most of my projects are on pause or waiting for feedback and the day to day stuff always end up to bigger discussion which I'm not involved in.
There's some stuff that's creeping back up but I don't really feel like it's the best idea to reintroduce them until someone does.
Otherwise, I feel insanely restless when I'm in this recovery mode and I'm trying to figure out how to cope with it. My boss likes to do impromptu calls to ask about stuff so I can't completely sandbag the day but at the same time I want to do something productive but it really feels like re-inventing the wheel if I keep tinkering with my projects without feedback.

>non-white

The defense sector is full of non-whites. If you get a job in defense, expect to move to Northern Virginia, with:

Fairfax County
>White: 63.2%
>Black: 11.1%
>Asian: 20.8%
>Latino: 17.7%

Or Southern Maryland, with

Montgomery County
>White: 58.3%
>Black: 20.9%
>Asian: 16.1%
>Latino: 21.1%

Other counties in the area vary a little bit, like Arlington County, which is more white than Fairfax, but also extremely expensive

The federal funds rate remains high, around 4.5%, which is approximately 4.5% higher than its 2020 low of basically zero. 2020 is when you saw increases in DEI hiring because there was both a cultural moment in the US which demanded it, and infinite capital to invest in company image

There are 4 main principles to scalability in system design:

>1. Horizontal sharding
Basically splitting your database into multiple nodes so that the load is distributed across many CPUs/disks. Records go in different databases based on some kind of hash. Scaling up with horizontal sharding is done using "consistent hashing" or "ring hashing": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consistent_hashing

>2. Stateless applications
If you have a website with a frontend and a backend, you need to be able to create N nodes of that applications. If any of them have any kind of state, then sending your requests through one will have different behavior than sending your requests through another. For example, if you use session-based cookies, then each node will need to share the session tokens with each other, or else Node A won't be able to validate a session token created by Node B. You can either synchronize information (state) across nodes using something like Hazelcast, or you can strive to make your application stateless. In the case of auth, using JWTs provides a functional mechanism for validating the authenticity of a request/user without saving any state, so long as all nodes share the same secret key

>>103313351

(2/2)

>3. Load balancing
You have all these different nodes, but they each share different IPs. How do you route a request to one vs another when the user typed in lolifeet.com? The simple answer if you pay for a load balancer with AWS or Azure and wash your hands of it. Load balancers are just gigantic workhorse machines that route many requests a second to their destinations. You can implement your own using nginx or apache2 as a reverse proxy, if your machine is beefy enough. Another option is to create multiple A records in your DNS. DNSs have no defined order for returning identical A records, so if you have the following:

>lolifeet.com A 127.0.0.1
>lolifeet.com A 192.168.0.1
>lolifeet.com A 8.8.8.8

if you request lolifeet.com, your DNS will return the A record in a random order. This can balance a lot of your requests, but is less predictable. Also, client machines tend to cache A records, so if you scale up and add more nodes, clients may have cached old IPs and use those before they go to the new node.

>4. Caching/Geographic distribution
If many users are reading the same tweet at once, you don't need to re-read the tweet from the database for every request, you can load it once and store it in a cache. The most common cache service is Redis, though others exist as well (including in-memory memoized caching in the web application itself). These are, in the simplest form, an in-memory-ish key-value store, so instead of running whatever SQL joins are required to fetch the post, it just gives you the cached post

Additionally, the user's proximity to the node affects latency, so it's common to store multiple copies of the same data across different regions. This is called a Content Delivery Network (CDN, for example, Amazon s3). Copies of your files are distributed on servers across the world, so when a user in Europe requests some resource, they download it from a server in Europe

anon, one of the greatest things about IT in general (including programming, security and so on) is that you can try shit if you want to learn how to do something. in this case, you could either buy a $100 phone or ask your employer to provide you one and install Teams on it to check how the process works. you can install and reconfigure it as many times as you want so it's not a huge problem to learn how to set it up... with that knowledge you can guide your users.
I guess you are also correct in that they shouldn't contact you if there is another org in charge of that, but this mediocre mentality will NOT help your career. unless you plan on sucking the government teat forever, of course...

this is NEET larp. in a real environment, shit is well locked down, and if you take "it's well locked down" as an invite to attack it to learn something, congratulations, you just attacked a system from the inside and are not only probably now guilty of any number of breaches of your employee contract, but if you are a GOVERNMENT WORKER or any sort, now you're attacking a government system. I shouldn't have to tell you how bad of an idea that is. I have a bad enough reputation bringing hand tools to work, I am not about to start poking at deparment of defence systems for any actual vulnerabilities when I have enough trouble from the entire dockyard knowing I'm already the type of guy to demand EE 100 level lab equipment despite just being a radioman

> in this case, you could either buy a $100 phone or ask your employer to provide you one and install Teams on it to check how the process works
well obviously i did that shit on my own shitty machine but my shitty machine is not everyone else's shitty machine and now this is an entirely different conversation -- i do not have the resources or time to examine every individual setup and life situation to differentiate between skill issues and "oh your shitty chink phone just doesn't support it", so it's easier for me to go "OK, go on Microsoft's site and see if you meet the basic requirements, and if you do, here's what worked for me. If THAT doesn't work, the internal help desk separate from me that handles this crap (because I literally do not have access to your account) is available from open internet at WWW.FUCKOFF.FORCES.GC.CA"
>>
I assure you, for every time one of you REAL DEVS gets pissed at IT for not letting you do what you want on your workstation, IT support got pissed for not being let do something at theirs.

are these phones special phones in any way or just normal user phones? do you work for some glowie org or something? have you ever heard of BYOD and zero-trust networks? (re)installing Teams should not be a problem in any org whatsoever

>I'm already the type of guy to demand EE 100 level lab equipment despite just being a radioman
lol? why is a electronics guy working as tech support? did I misunderstand something? and why do you think you know anything about security?

>well obviously i did that shit on my own shitty machine
are you talking about VMs or something? are you calling yout phone "machine"? you said you don't own a phone...

>i do not have the resources or time to examine every individual setup and life situation to differentiate between skill issues
you don't need to do that? you tell the user to follow some steps and tell you what he sees in the screen of his phone. even better if he can send screenshots or pics, and then you google whatever issue the user might have if you can't solve their issue yourself, or, in the last instance, you tell the user to call someone more advanced or that his device simply isn't supported.

actaully as a real world example, shortly before I left the minesweeper fleet, my ship was considered ok to sail mechanically but hard red on comms because of a satcom issue. it was isolated to a time server that broke, and it was actually just replaced outright with a new model.

>time server gets replaced
>it never got configured
>contractors in and out basically saying "well I did my piece, bye"
>nothing can communicate with the time server properly
>my bosses and eventually command get involved asking why it doesn't work
>I get a direct email asking wtf why i'm not personally fixing it
>i'm already fed up at work so I basically just respond with

>"I got the manufacturer's manuals, got into the thing, so clearly no one who was supposed to touch it has, because I was able to touch it with default credentials on its default IP. It's shocking it didn't break anything by demanding a default IP but that's DHCP for you. I could configure it properly right now because I hold Doc X and Doc Y to do it properly but don't want to step on anyone's toes. (((Please Advise)))"

>silence for literal months, ship basically can't sail because of a standing comspot

>eventually get a new email that's like 9 pages long

>it's a giant email chain quoted involving multiple units, up and down chains of command, constant buck passing
>it's from some civvie contractor
>dude's own email is a reply-all 8 page tirade about what is wrong and what needs to be done
>closes with a demand that some relevant department finally take care of it

If I seem like a crazy person, you're right, but this is the kind of environment I work in and I have a hard time imagining it's much better elsewhere.

>>103317802
Did I say I'm a security expert? Did I not say I work for the government? FWIW at the time I owned a phone.
>lol? why is a electronics guy working as tech support?
At the time, most technician/technologist trades were not open to reservists.
>>
>>103317892
btw the relevant agency did eventually come in. or rather, they configured it remotely. and then did not furnish the now reset admin credentials to the ship.
>>
>>103317892
>Did I say I'm a security expert?
then why the fuck are you saying installing Teams on a fucking phone to test shit is the same as attacking the government, you fucking schizo retard

>Did I not say I work for the government?

ALSO before anyone gets at me
>reservist
>LOLLLLLLLLL
I did 4 years in a row contracted to the minesweepers; the average regular force contract in my country is 4 years these days, and even in the US is 5 or so afaik that includes initial training so very little of that will be spent actually posted to a ship, let alone at sea.

>>103317971
>then why the fuck are you saying installing Teams on a fucking phone to test shit is the same as attacking the government,
Because if things don't work, you have to poke at why they don't work. If you're in a restricted environment, your poking is restricted.
It's not like on a home computer where you can touch whatever you want and install whatever you want.

>did you imply with your wall of text that rules in the military are somehow the same as in a civilian organization?
They actually are, at least here. Officers tend to come from normal schooling, and "industry best practice" is now more advanced than what happens in government because it takes so long for federal agency practices to change, so the government follows the "innovators" in the private sector. It's not like the 30s where fashion is dictated by warfare. It's the other way around now.
>>
Consider this call

>I can't log in
Is it on your personal device or an issued device?

>It's an issued phone, model...
Yeah, here's the typical troubleshooting steps, and I can see it in the system but I'm not allowed to touch it, I'll put in a ticket for you with all the info I can gather. In the meantime, maybe borrow a laptop and...

>It's my own phone
I don't know dude I just drink blood dude

I legit can't get another job now. In having the ultimate of bullshit jobs I've grown a lot of bullshit intolerance.

I took a Zoom interview in the middle of the English Channel, and the faggot on the other end of the line was all huffy that the lighting was bad before launching into typical HR rat questions. As I take a call with an 8 hour time difference, from the rear deck of a ship, in the dark, worried that it might be cut short by a firefighting exercise or something. And then they ask you all kinds of bullshit like "can you be flexible" "are you a team player" "have you ever experienced hardship"

What's the chance of cold applying to lead/manager roles with a tailored resume and getting interviews? Is it worth the effort?
I have zero formal experience under the job title but I have plenty of leadership experience.
Seems like I would have had to be promoted into a leadership role to have better chances which is incredibly laborious.

Selfishly I hope some Indian scam hits job sites hard and forces websites to start blocking Indian traffic or at least split them off to a different webpage. Obviously there will never be an internet-wide Great Firewall equivalent for India but if there's enough demand eventually individual sites will start caving. IMDb has a completely separate top 250 list for India because Indians spam 10 star ratings for every single movie that comes out, maybe some day job sites will realize every posting is spammed with thousands of completely ineligible Indian applications and start filtering traffic as well.

I hope a western government gets sick of being pwned by skids and sets a precedent that software handling personal information needs to follow a set of strict security standards. These security standards are enforced by companies being penalized the fuck out of for allowing their users piece of shit unsalted MD5 password hashes to show up online. Thus, it would likely become expensive as fuck to allow third worlders to write shitty code and would prove more economical to bring high paying SWE jobs back to the white man.
