Are Nothing phones decent, or just a meme that's shilled?

At a first look they do seem to avoid the "everything in your face" approach most phones have, but the hype around them makes me slightly skeptical.

I have my eyes on either a Phone 2a or a CMF while they're on sale, as my 2016 j5 is dying (power button is dead, battery doesn't hold up that well. One shutdown and I may not be able to turn it on)

not a phone, but should I get a scamazon fire 11 max or scamsung s9 fe/fe+? it would be for the wife for christmas. biggest thing she wants is an active pen for drawing but otherwise it'll just be a wireless monitor for netflixing around the house more than anything. she already has a fire 10 that I gave her a couple years ago, but that thing has always been a bit of an underperformer even when new and after debloating basically everything with fire toolbox which is why I'm hesitant to buy an 11. of course however it's half the price of the s9 and I can get it even cheaper by trading in the old fire 10 which will take like 80 bucks off the price which considering I bought the 10 for a 100 bucks back then, it would be like getting an 80% refund on a 3+ year old device which ain't bad. and no she won't be ungrateful or mad if I cheap out, she is actually more likely to get angry if she finds out I spent 300 or 400 bucks on the tablet (but I don't really care, I just want to get whichever one is worth).
>>
>>103377584
Xperias are good, though I refuse to buy the VI after the screen resolution downgrade and will probably get the V on sale instead. The only thing that started to bother me is the overly narrow screen, I think my degrading eyesight doesn't like videos to be quite that small anymore.
>>
>>103347713
I already tried that, didn't work. Apparently the Xperias can do 4K 120Hz but can't do 8K at all. And a ton of phones that can do 8K max out at 60Hz for 4K.
>>
>>103370819
Agree with what? That OLED is garbage on both iPhones and Android phones? That OLED consistently gets the exact same issues on both phones? That OLED is essentially planned obsolesence because OEMs get to use software updates to cause their phones to get permanent green lines?

Anyone who shills OLED is most definitely paid by one of those companies to do so.
>>
Reminder that IPS has:
>no burn in
>no black crushes
>no green tints
>no green lines
>no PWM flickering
>more durable in general, one bump doesn't make the whole screen unusable

DO NOT listen to anyone who claims that OLED is better. Regardless of whether they're iSheep or Android sheep.
>>
>>103379701
IPS also looks like dogshit on the majority of phones and especially laptops. Good IPS implementation is possible, but only Apple ever bothered for some reason. All the rest look like gray mush and have terrible light bleed.
I'll take OLED over IPS even though it will die early, I'll have to replace the device in 4-5 years anyway for all other planned obsolescence reasons.
>>
>>103379736
Yes, that's the other problem. Most of those who do use IPS use only the lowest quality panels in an attempt to encourage users to switch to OLED. But even the lowest quality IPS panels still outlast the best OLED panels by a wide margin.

>only Apple
Sharp also did. I'd argue that there were also a few IPS screens from other brands' phones that stood out, like LG G7 ThinQ.
>>
>>103379701
I've been using an amoled for 7 years and had none of those issues. explain that
>>
>>103379833
LG did so many things right with their phones that it's a real damn shame that they had to quit.
>>
>>103378038
1 and 2 are shit for the price. Not sure how good 2a is. CMF seems interesting design-wise due to the extendable case, but I wouldn't spend too much on it. It's meant to be a budget phone and it's specs aren't enough to justify a €275+ price tag which it has in some places.

Considering you're using a phone from 2016, the better two options would be either Fairphone or Pixel. If you plan on using your new phone for over 4 years, these two are perfect. The two brands offer 5+ years of system updates. Plus, the Fairphones are trivially easy to repair if you get a hardware failure.
>>
>>103380210
The fairphone is double the price of the 2a.
As of now, the prices are:
CMF (8 gm ram +256 gb storage): 210€
Phone 2a (8 gb ram + 128 gb storage): 285€
Pixel 8a (8 gb ram +128 gb storage): 370€

The CFM looks very appealing. You get more storage and an sd card slot over the 2a, while only having a slightly weaker cpu.
>>
>>103380916
MiniLED (which is still basically IPS by the way) is pretty good if there are enough dimming zones, but once again only Apple did it right so far, the others have too few dimming zones which causes annoying bloom in darker scenes. But yes, I'd recommend an actually good MiniLED over OLED to most people, even as an avid OLED enjoyer.
Personally I'm looking forward to microLED, which should in theory be OLED but brighter and less prone to degradation, but we're still too far away from those being economically viable in anything but VR headsets.

>hmm yes you just disable this APK and the proprietary hyperOS skin stops sending data to China
If only it were so simple. Even with a custom ROM there could be hardware backdoors. There really is no true non-botnet phone (some are better than others) you can be triangulated to quite precise location if you ever connect to a cell tower, even if your OS and hardware are not compromised.
>>
Recommend me an upgrade or sidegrade for my s23+
>>
>>103381839
S24+ unless in Europe (where Exynos might be a downgrade). Maybe wait a month or two for S25 series either to get a discount on the "old" S24+ or just get the new S25+ with a massive betterment of the SoC (EU might get screwed again).
iPhone 16 Pro/Max depending if you want a big phone or a reasonably sized one. Performance is quite good and battery life is decent despite not having a massive battery. Depends on your opinion of iOS.
Pixel 9 Pro/XL if you don't care about a performance downgrade in exchange for either utilizing often helpful Google features, OR going balls deep with a privacy respecting custom OS like GrapheneOS where you can restrict or completely eschew Google services. Ironically one of the best ways to get a degoogleable phone is to buy a Pixel.

Yes you need a dock, typically type C to HDMI and several other ports, and a phone that at a minimum has USB video out but ideally a DEX type setup (Motorola has their own, likely others).

If I was a normie I could replace my whole life with one device plugged into a maddening dongle's worth of ports and charging while I was home.

But don't expect this feature on cheap phones, usually reserved for the $1000 flagships.

You're fine with an S24. Samsung and Motorola (and technically Huawei but there's no coverage of their version) have desktop modes when connected to an external display. You can get a proper dock to secure the phone, or save money and get a loose hanging dongle adapter that has an HDMI port AND ALSO an extra USB-C port for charging while connected. Or if you're using a Samsung TV or monitor you can connect your Samsung phone wirelessly.
>audio jack
Wireless earbuds / headphones, a basic 3.5mm dongle for basic connections like old car radios with an aux port, or a (wireless) DAC like the FiiO BTR5 / BTR7 or iFi GO series of products that will maintain quality. New phone batteries have turned into day-long power banks if you're not trying to record 4K 60fps for 10 hours and can maintain audio playback without having a huge drain on battery. Of course, this is cope as no one wants a flimsy and/or elongated dongle jutting out of their phone's charging port compared to just jamming their stick in the hole, but this is what customers who didn't fight back enough have to do now for audio.
>speakers
Either wired through a dongle or connected wirelessly.
>tiny ass screen
The rep didn't try to upsell the S24+ of S24 Ultra models to you?

While I said you're fine with a S24, you probably didn't need an $800 phone likely bound to a contract. You sound like you don't need a top end phone camera and you don't use any apps or view media from your phone to take advantage of DeX like how >people living on their phones can. Budget Samsung phones have lesser but serviceable specs while retaining the headphone port because customers spending more on the top of the line S series are likely to be coersed into spending more on Samsung brand wireless earbuds. Again, the S24 is great, but it might be too much phone for you if you wanted to save money. Not that you'll be overwhelmed but rather just won't know or care about everything it can do.

>why the fuck does this thing that cost like $800 not have an audio jack but my dumb phone I got from dollar general for $40 does?
Apple bought Beats by Dre for several billion and needed to make their money back. So they made the airpods, removed the headphone jack and made a retarded amount of money. Other phone makers did the same, since they saw they could make more money too. But Sony and some Motorolas still have them.

>is there a way to connect the phone to my pc and use my monitor and speakers instead of the tiny ass screen and speakers on the phone?
Yes, both Samsung and Motorola have ways to turn your phone into a desktop. Samsung has Samsung DeX which all *flagship* Samsungs have going as far back as the S9. The A series does not have it.

Motorola has their own version called "Ready For".

So you can use it safely until 5 years from the release date of the phone (you'll probably need to replace the battery every few years or it will suffer from poor battery life). You can probably use it even longer it just won't have security updates. But hey The Facebook app still runs who cares about security?

> Do you guys think that a A55 or a X6 Pro can last for 4~6 years?, I
I don't think my s24 ultra would last that long.
Xiaomi has malware and usually slowed down by updates, a55 is slow now.

Your Xiaomi Derangement syndrome has overstayed its welcome, xister.

Learn how to draw great pornographic pictures in the Clip Studio Paint and learn how to create great electronic music in the Ableton.

If the former is too hard for you, then just do the latter.

That or just mess around with AI.

No they are all bad. They all have weird skins and bloat. If you want to spend the time to debloat and potentially disrupt functionality you can buy one if you want, I guess.
>>
holy fuck the s24 ultra is fucking horrid
>>
>>103399460
i don’t like the spen. i hope the s25uptra is a solid slab with a 6.9” screen, 1440p, titanium frame, with glass front and back. no spen. also 24gb/1tb configuration. at least it’s getting the overclocked extreme edition of the sd8elite

Not updooting phones until we get 6000+mAh from samdung
>>
>>103399612
at a certain point, performance per watt has to come into play since making the battery bigger will have a negative impact such as being too thick and to heavy

xiaomi phones are fine to use for like 5 years, the only real degradation is your tolerance for the chink bloatware that is
>>
Been thinking about ditching iphones for a pixel with custom rom but iOS is so fucking good.

I don’t want to have to learn a whole new way of operating my phone and the ecosystem with AirPods and my watch is fucking awesome.

macOS sucks dick though and if you use it you’re a faggot

bitches also love blue bubbles

The xiaomi 15 pro and Oneplus 13 are both slimmer and lighter than the S24U while having 6000mAh batteries. Not to mention actual fast charging. Gotta give it to the chinks the new battery tech is really good.
>>
if vivo breaks into the USA market it's fucking over for samshit and apple.

is there a cell phone brand from 20 years ago still making phones like if nokia hadn't sold to MS and was still making phones with symbian kind of thing?

Do the original AOSP dialer/contacts/messages/gallery/calendar apps work on new versions of android, and is there a way to get them?

I don't like how new phones come with the google versions which have (((smart features)))

Is Aurora Store legit?

Had my Redmi Note 7 for 5 years now , should I go with a Moto G54 or a G84? I'm mostly looking for no bloatware, a headphone jack and a decent battery and screen, I don't care much for things like cameras. Max 250 euros

>such as being too thick and to heavy
God I wish more phones and laptops were thick and heavy. I want good cooling and decent battery and I don't mind the extra heft at all. But sadly most people have tiny hands (or tiny pockets, because clothes manufacturers are crazy for some reason).

There's nothing you can do in iOS that you can't do on Androids. There are over 50+ missing features on iOS.

>I don’t want to have to learn a whole new way of operating my phone
You don't have to. You can make Android as simple or as complicated as you want. There are even iPhone skins on Android, dynamic island and all.

>the ecosystem with AirPods and my watch is fucking awesome
Airpods work with Androids too. You can probably trade in your apple watch for a Galaxy or Pixel watch for free.

>bitches also love blue bubbles
With RCS now being the standard, the differences are miniscule. Plus on Androids, you can make the text bubble any color you want. Plus you can just message them on Whatsapp, Snapchat or any other number of messaging apps. Or you can tell them you're using an anonymous text app because you're a drug dealer or some shit.

Or you can be a man and explain to her the reasons you like Androids over iPhones, that you're a leader not a follower and that you won't be bullied into buying something. If your aura is high enough, you can even get her to switch.

What your launcher of choice? Got a new phone and figured it'd be a good time to try some other launcher options. The two features I'd like is edge panel and folders in app drawer.

does a third party program exist that'll let me easily transfer files to my iphone? I want to avoid itunes at all cost.

The fastest way for me to get files onto my phone is using the file sharing thing on itunes, select VLC and just feed it whatever I want from my pc, this works but if I could do exactly this without itunes I'd be happy.

It's actually Oppo. ColorOS and OxygenOS are basically the same now.
