IGNITE X ARE IN. Here's some thoughts about them:

I really hadn't realized just how close the tuning was for all celest products until i found a squig that actually had all the pairs i own to compare them together. The most common thought i have when switching between them is that the resolution just keeps getting better but they all sound relatively similar. None of them sound particularly bad, but you notice an increase in sound stage with every step up you do. The cool thing about the ignite x too is that they're shaped exactly like the wyverns so the comfort is 1:1. Ignite X could basically be seen as upgraded wyverns. The Plutus sound almost identical, but are the only ones shaped weird because of the BC driver. and man that BC driver makes bass fucking 3d. plutus still mogs but as far as tuning goes, all 3 are right up my alley.

If I were on a strict 50 dollar budget and couldn't go higher, the ignite x feels perfect. I wouldn't complain if these were like 30 dollars more expensive.

U-shape adjacent tuning which has been executed really well. Despite the squigs, it is not as warm sounding as the Mega5EST. Sub-bass packs a nice punch. Really reminds me of the Hype 4, albeit with slightly less energetic treble, but still just as resolving. A fun U-shape for the treble-sensitive. 9/10.

>Tangzu Xuanwu Gate
Treble specialist – bass-lite, airy and ethereal-sounding. Resembles the Symphonium Helios and Annihilator. But treble extension pales in comparison to the real kilobucks. Female vocals and piano sound sparkly, but string and wind instruments lack authority and have an unnaturally fast decay. It’s a one trick pony but it’s good at its niche. 8/10.

Another attempt to ‘improve’ upon the Twilight by adding more treble and bass. It didn’t work with the RSV so why did Softears expect the second attempt to be any different?
Ironically the Enigma ends up sounding more like the Studio 4 than the Twilight; and you can buy the Studio 4 for one-tenth of the price. 3/10.

Bass is pretty much a preference thing, though I'd say the Zero2's is a bit exaggerated.

I now created two eq presets for each pos; one that was done just by ear (these are the settings seen here >>103525370), and another with additional boost at 400 and 2.9, and cut at 1.5 to make them even closer to JM-1. It's tough to say which is better, considering the filters are only +/- 1.5 dB and it sounds pretty similar; plus the volume is probably a bit different between the presets. I will just keep using both for a while. Probably will use the JM-1 ones because it makes no meaningful difference, but my autism is satisfied because the graph matches a target...

I would agree, I usually do a cut at 120hz. This helps pill out some mud but leaves the boosted subbass intact.
After that, you just need to boost some 500hz and remove some upper mids, I usually go for 1700hz, and it's really close to JM1.

I'm done EQing for today; pretty happy about the results. The added 400 Hz gives a lot of warmth, the removed 1.5 kHz reduces a kind of "metal sheet"-ish sound, and the added 2.9 kHz brings back a bit clarity through that warmth. But the most important thing seems to be 4 to 6 kHz, where JM-1 is completely right (compared to Harman earrape in this area); but I figured that out by ear before already.

Now I'm just waiting for a cheap 1DD that is +/- 1 dB around JM-1 without DSP, bonus points for no bass boost, but this is probably not going to happen, since the 2024 meta seems to imply JM-1 with a weird bass shelf...

I got these a couple weeks ago, and I couldn't really fit them in my ear. They are size S, and I do use etymotics with triple flange tips regularly, and while these are quite comfortable, I can't get the cp240 to work. So far very disappointing, but I will give it another try later.

I tried them on Truthear Gate. I just put them on the Hexa that I currently wear, and it seems to work a bit better. I hear that isolation has improved quite a bit over the standard tips. I will try to find where the ear canal resonance peak went.

Thanks for reminding me that I got these, anon. I tried them, it didn't work immediately, and I put them somewhere and forgot that I still have them.

It's a bit more difficult to get them in. The second flange (the smaller one) is wider than the second flange of ety triple flange tips, and it is also longer. So when holding them next to each other, the cp240 double flange tip is almost as long as ety triple flange. I figure this is the reason why it's a bit more difficult to get them in.

I just tried them with Hexa, and isolation has improved significantly (tested with a mechanical keyboard w/ blue keys). I turned off my eq, and the sound also improved significantly, in comparison to stock tips *without* eq. A sine sweep told me that the annoying peak at 8 kHz is not there anymore. The first one that I hear is at 11.4, and this one is more tolerable. So if not using eq, they really do improve the sound.

But they are large. I have size S, and I can clearly feel them in my ear. No real discomfort, but this was just a quick test, don't know how it is to wear them for hours.

pretty okay now I guess the initial hiss/crack problems were due to it being relatively new/unused like a classic unprimed capacitor

it is now reminiscent of my 0.1> ohm alc1220 workstation dac but even more nostalgic is the mad amounts of stereo crosstalk I get when using a TRRS earphone which makes it sound like traditional "not so great crosstalk but linear phase" devices but devoid of any hiss (those who have them probably probably have cabling issues).
with a TRS connector it has less crosstalk (only appears above 60% volume) - with a TRRS connector it would have crosstalk at about 20% volume, maybe the way the dac is wired with the microphone is crosstalk problem (at the same time a alc5686 usbdac have no crosstalk issue on any device I own). also I think the fullness/response of bass of DA06 is legitimately definitely 1> ohms impedance output https://reference-audio-analyzer.pro/report/amp/graveaudio-da06.php which is an absolute upgrade to anyone wanting a budget sub-0.5 ohms dac and 32-16ohm iem crowd.

though the only problem I get now is microphone detection is not as smooth but I don't use it that much and seems like a linux driver problem.
earphone buttons/controls do work perfectly for TRRS with DA06. got the blue version so the copper CX-Pro might perform differently.

faaeal poppy is the only IEM which can achieve 15dB subbass (with frontal ventblock mod, not nozzle) besides the moondrop ssp/ssr ventblock mod though it pales in comparison to poppy with regards to the lack of 6khz bump

I would recommend getting faaeal poppy for any female vocal enjoyers though it's a bit lacking in the 12khz region making synth/cymbals/tambo vanish faster. it's also the perfect fit if your ears don't really "cup" inwards, making it practically not 'muddy' at all, no it's not the iem, the ears are extra cupping of ears cause it to sound muddy. there's practically no "basshead" meme, the way the ears cup forwards make anything muddy hence there's the flattard-basstard wars.

For desk use. My DAC is under my monitor, so with 1.2m it's around 30cm too short. With headphones it's not a problem since 1.5m cables are really easy to find, but with IEMs I always had to use extensions which are ugly and shitty, so I wanted to get a nice cable that's long enough on its own now that I settled on a main pos for everyday use.
