My instruction card just tells AI the setting (and rules if it's a game) and reminds AI that the card is a narrator. See MaidoDism card. I've been thinking about it and I actually think poetry writing will be a better benchmark for the general intelligence of SOTA models than any sort of logical reasoning tests (although of course that would be much harder to quantify). Logical reasoning is mostly a local process, you can go statement by statement, but good poetry needs a clear overarching idea that's generally never made explicit and everything needs to be in service of that idea, it needs a much more global structure.
GPT-4 can reason convincingly well in a lot of cases, but its poetry is utter tripe, and not just because of "gptisms." To me that's the next frontier of "understanding."

I have been doing the same for months and used <NAME_CHARACTER_INFO></NAME_CHARACTER_INFO> blocks for each, up to 4 at a time. Claude did on occasion mix up character details, most notably hair color, but it was rarely enough that I never bothered to solve it, just something to keep in mind. Might have been caused by additional sub-blocks like <appearance> being named the same. Perhaps a strict differentiation <NAME_appearance> would help, if you use any subdivisions at all.
