Went through my 4th but separately named harassment training this year. All this is teaching me is how to be a two faced, backstabbing, screw, brown nosing manager with a victim complex.I wonder if someone higher up got some real banter and couldn't handle it. I also wonder if i will have a few meetings about it which would also be a joke since everyone is chill in my area of the company.
My old boss used to be very hands-on and productive, we used to have a very fast pace in my team and I, specifically, was the fastest on the team (because I worked closer with said boss). He has been sacked and replaced with a slow, "day in the life of" type of boss. As far as I understand, his only credential is "friends with the higher ups". I haven't written much code in the last few weeks, if any. Has anyone been through this before? I don't mind having a lazy guy job but I fear that, when management looks at metrics, this slow boss will use me as a scapegoat and get me fired. I'm quite split between enjoying lazyness or trying to get team productivity up, if anyone has some advice I'd appreciate it.
>got an offer from job that lists itself as hybrid/in-person>onboarded a few days ago>they told me they are actually remoteAre companies actually listing remote jobs as in-person to avoid getting spammed by foreigners?
>>106455643Likely. Its a general filter they place like my company has "Must be willing to travel 30% of the year" But traveling is any longer than a week out of the year is rare for lower end techs and the real travel jobs are listed as "100% travel at a moments notice"
>if you have to ask for a promotion, you're better off just hopping to a new jobIs there truth to this statement???
>>106455720There has to be a job opening then you throw your name in the company hat. If it's really bad then they will look outwards to someone who tangentially knows your sections technology, but has been a manager longer than internal hires. If you have no openings then yeah consider job hopping within the company to another position or to another company.
>>106455720Probably not. Many jobs have people who are just too busy or who get into narrow frames of thought and will just hire other people instead of promote when they would have promoted you if they thought about it.
>>106455743>There has to be a job opening then you throw your name in the company hat. There is but the justification for that job opening is "expanding the team"
>>106455643I imagine here they'd just ask for proficiency in the local language, which filters out all foreigners.

>>106455643If so it's not a bad idea. My current job was listed as "hybrid" but when I started, my manager said he didn't give a fuck. I go in pretty often because there's actually some nice stuff at the office, and there's cute girls to look at.
>>106448238>-. .. --. --. . .-. ... / - --- -. --. ..- . / -- -.-- / .- -. ..- ...
>>106453363Or rather, proponents of AI are idiots for not considering the consequences of using it. If it speeds up your workflow then that's good for whoever you're working for more than for you. The work is why you're there and that's why you're paid, so if you do it in half the time thanks to AI then you get half the pay. Moreover, your superiors will justify you not being promoted to a manager because you don't need a team under you because you have AI. And finally, when you're sick and tired of not being promoted or getting paid more and decide to switch jobs, then congrats the entire fucking industry is using AI like you just were, so they don't need new hires. But unlike you, they'll be gripping onto employment for dear life because they're not naive. And that's if AI speeds up your workflow. Imagine the shitshow if it actually sets you back: you end up relying on somebody else's codebase that you had 0 input in, and your programming skills have languished because AI models have done all the heavy lifting, and the cherry on top is that you're behind scheduled being scrutinised by superiors who think you should be well ahead of schedule because AI is the buzzword of the day.Lmao, fuck that. I'm a great programmer, I won't "enhance" it with AI. I'll go at my own pace, authoring my own code, and sharpening my skillsets the old fashioned way. And if that's not good enough for the market then that's an indication the tech bubble has finally burst. It popped over 20 years ago and pay in this sector has only gotten worse, jobs offshored, and frankly tech in general is shittier (think: Windows, Google). I'm professionally in this for the money, and once I'm financially independent I'm going to seriously consider retiring from IT and tending to a garden or some shit.
>>106456270And how could I have forgot: while you're busy leveraging AI, the AI companies are leveraging you. Microsoft and the rest of them will one day reach out to your boss and explain they've reviewed all of your work and found that it was more or less Microsoft that did it, and that they can go on doing it at a fraction of your salary. They'll replace you, and your job of being a AI prompter is something a jeet can do all the way from India, if they don't already have AI prompting other AIs. So congrats, the skill set you've dedicated years into becoming a professional at is no longer capable of putting food on your table and paying your bills. Slow clap from the soup lines.
>>106455720Yes. Asking for promotion or pay raise is a concern to the business, and if they're a shitty business then they use that as a red flag to indicate it maybe time to replace you with someone new.Having a new job lined up means that when you go in there asking for the promotion or pay raise and they refuse to give it you, then you have the option to quit on the spot.

Anyone here that transitioned out of SWE into an cybersecurity or devOps/architecture role?I've been coasting for the past 5 years in a dead-end IAM Operations position, the only programming I've been able to do on the job is some python scripting and spreadsheet management with Pandas. I like programming but I think I've romanticized working as a developer, and perhaps would find it better to just do it as a hobby and to support any other role that I may have. I am now trying to transition to a different role, I'm thinking about going deeper into Cybersec, aiming to something like a Security Engineer or a DevSecOps role, but I still have this nagging feeling that I had when I was a kid of working as a developer. Anyone have some perspective on SWE? Do you like it? Do you think it's fulfilling and worth perusing? Are most SWE jobs trying to decipher spaghetti code and/or building the same enterprise applications?Like, I like programming, I'm reading a book right now on implementing a tree-walking-interpreter and then a VM, I think it's fucking cool to build stuff like that and understand how shit really works under the hood, but I'm assuming most generic SWE jobs don't have you working on cool shit unless you have years of experience and are able to specialize in a niche filed like computer vision or whatever the fuck.
>>106455720Bumping this question
>>106459937yes there is truth to itif you were going to be promoted you would be, if you have to ask you're more valuable staying where you are at the price they're payingMBAs teach that additional compensation is not the way, instead you should be given growth opps with clear paths to advance and if you don't have that then gg
>>106455720>>106459937If you're already well-compensated and there are reasons as to why you would want to stay at that job, either because the role you're currently performing is a good stepping-stone in your career, or you just plainly love what the fuck you're doing, schedule, work-life balance, etc, then you might consider asking for a raise. But in general, for whatever fucking reason, the budget companies have for new hires dwarfs what they have for salary increases. Even if you get promoted to a higher-level role, you will almost never get a salary increase to match the current market-rate. Also, depending on where you are and the amount of bureaucratic red-tape fuckery involved, you might be waiting a fucking year or more for your raise after you've asked for it. If your primary goal is to earn more, switching jobs is the better option.

>>106459720In most SWE jobs, especially if you have tons of experience, you don't get to write cool code to do cool shit. >>106462617What is the purpose of requiring a regular bachelors before you can go to med school?
>>106463236>>106448238Bangai-O Spirits does this too. When you make a custom level you transmit it by using the DS's speakers, and the import function uses the DS's mic. It's completely audible and sounds mostly like grinding gears, and has good enough error handling that the most common way to transmit levels is people recording their DS speakers like fucking animals, emailing the audio file, then playing it back off your PC's speakers like a cretin because the DS used a proprietary mic jack and they never released a line in device. So even if you want to meme out about "reee modems turn it into electricals its not audio!!!" theres examples of direct transmission of bits and bytes via mechanical wave audio already out there (and they are usually really slow and it's kinda annoying for obvious reasons of having to listen to BRRREHGGGGRRRR CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK WHRRRGRRRERRRRRRR to get anything done)

Everyone can save money in the US if you cut back spending money on bullshit for a few months you should at the minimum have 5k in your savings. These people choose to live this way. It's not the case for expenses like rent/utilities/food/gas/car, ect.
>>106465542>>too retarded to understand hybridI think you're too retarded to do math if you think that's not hybrid.
>>106465556Office 3 times a week it's not hybrid, its "I got duped by my employer and have to cope"Anything above 1-2 a week is not hybrid
>>106465542>too retarded to understand hybridSeems like he understood it fine to me

>>106465569Office three times a week is the most typical hybrid setup I see on the job market.
>>106465569>Office 3 times a week it's not hybridIt's by far the most common hybrid schedule>its "I got duped by my employer and have to cope"Yes, that's what hybrid is. Cope for non-remotes.
>>106465586>>106465590Damn, TIL Americans even have a different, shittier definition of hybrid
>>106465599Who said I'm American?
>>106465549>>106465554true but that covers the "and/or are morons" case and that being paid daily will not fix that they simply don't have the income to support their lifestyle. I only said that a monthly period might be merely "annoying".Even myself, not being a moron, if I got paid monthly it'd be fine, but I'd definitely not feel great about it and prefer the classic "every two weeks, on the 15th and last of the month wherever they fall, actually getting the money in your account depending on whether your bank processes transactions that day or not"
>>106465228Pretty good.Rate my summer fit.
>>106465601I've never seen anything like 3 days a week being called hybrid, so you're clearly American/canadian
>>106465626So you're a citizen of every country except the US and Canada?
>cargo pantsgiga-ick'
>>106465645>function is not more important than formEither woman or fag
>>106465612lots of snag hazards, dont like
>>106465611>if I got paid monthly it'd be fine, but I'd definitely not feel great about itI still don't understand this feeling. Especially if you're a tech worker, meaning you get paid more than most of the people where you live, and shouldn't have any struggles paying for necessities.I got paid on the 15th, mortgage was on the 16th, credit card was like on the 23rd and utilities on the 3rd. You just get paid when you get paid and you use that to cover all of your expenses for the next month.
>>106465635No I'm European obviously, everything else is irrelevant when it comes to tech
>>106465262The normie wage slaves maybe. Not people working tech.
Why don't graphic programmers get paid that much?
>>106465651there's no "function" which requires a shitton of pockets
>>106465626NTA, but we had hybrid in poland set as 1 day per week, and now they are trying to push for 2-3 days a week even
>>106464134I hate how true your pic is. Where did things go so wrong?
>>106465684See exactly what I mean. Hybrid is 1 per week for you, and now they're trying to bullshit you. Exactly what I mean
>>106465659Good on you, keeping up with the job trends of 40+ countries.
>>106465655Mostly because I try to live below my means and consistently put money away. >>10646569764 bit memory addressing, probably
>>106465706How much do you save per month?
>>106465706>Those extra two weeks are two days The Market isn't handing me free moneyHuh?
>>106465720I used to put over a thousand or more a month away but coof made everything expensive so I can only afford like a couple hundred bucks now. In less than 5 years my rent went from 700$ to 2000$. bring back rent control and right-to-renew>>106465721I have a "high" interest savings account that is basically just a mutual fund tagged so I don't pay taxes on it. it doesn't accumulate much but it's better than a normal savings account.
>>106465752It still doesn't explain how a monthly payment is worse than biweekly payment.
>>106465752>I used to put over a thousand or more a month awayAnd this is on a 150k+ salary? What the actual fuck

>>106465752>I used to put over a thousand or more a month away>I can only afford like a couple hundred bucks nowMy take-home pay was 4000€ (monthly) and most months I managed to save up over 2000€.I really hope you weren't paid six figures.
>>106465764Because it's a mutual fund and "interest" is actually just market valuation of stonks therein, I can "make money" over the two weeks. I don't feel like doing math for compound interest and stuff so let's just assume something fucking moons on the 17th and I couldn't 10x 1.5 months pay instead of just 1 months pay.>>106465781i made way less than that lol, more like 60k>>106465805linkedin is useless as a job finding platform. even before jeets and ai and shit it was really bad and the tools for both recruiters and searchers were awful, and everyone just used Monster instead. linkedin is for stalking HR people to approach them directly

>>106465857>I couldn't 10x 1.5 months pay instead of just 1 months pay.So uh, getting paid once a month over getting paid twice a month is bad because you're investing every six-or-so weeks?I really don't understand this line of thought.
>>106465857>60kOh so your a poorfag. Opinions disregarded!
>>106465857Opinion discarded 60k is less than some IT helpdesk guys. You really are making bad points all around.
>>106465880I did say it would be only "annoying" and not some critical failure. the practical difference would be only a few bucks a month really, probably less than the day-to-day fluctuation of that account, especially with the massively inflated costs of everything meaning I can put even less awaybut yeah basically>monthly bad because i cant daytrade as effectively (i have outsourced my daytrading)I wouldn't turn down a job over the pay being monthly and would probably get used to it fairly quickly
If you're not making at least 500k and paid every 3 days max, you have a shit job and need to get the fuck out of my thread.
>>106464739Cute. What influencer told you that?
If you are penny pinching ramen packets with payday loans i really need you and the furfag to leave the internet and get a real job. Cops make more money than you do.
>>106465952If you were paid on a monthly schedule and your payday was on the 15th, on the 15th of February, you would have two months of your year's salary to invest, since you'd be paid for the whole of January and the whole of February.I don't really see the ineffectiveness of it.
>>106449749I don't get the issue with MSP's. I started in one now worked my way up. Managing a bunch of tards. I feel like it's just a filter for lazy people
>>106466076MSPs are ran by sales dicks who will make whatever promise they need to make in a race to the bottom to win the contract They don't have to keep the promises, you do
>>106466076Hit and miss some pay great but most are there to win contracts and figure everything out after the fact. My MSP has almost no requirements for the job to be completed, so life is easy, our pay is decent compared to what the company pays its own employees.
so... new thread?hopefully one that burgers won't turn into a real state thread?
>>106466017honestly my intuition was that constantly putting in money would be good since the new money in can now grow too, as opposed to not growing while in the employer's hands, but I might be wrong and initial larger investments without extra shots of cash may be better for the final value of the account. idk. it's still non-traditional though and as much as I'll make fun of normies who demand to be paid daily I'd rather be able to say "two more weeks" if/when I run out of ready to use cash
BAKIING BREAD
>>106465976>penny pinching ramen packetsanon its about being "healthy". Healthy is the best. Potatoes and onions? Great stuff, cost nothing, keeps you HEALTHY. Dont like the taste? Fry it a bit, add in anything that is HEALTHY like eggs, which are (usually) cheap in any country. Going below that line is retarded. Goin above that line is allowed if you feel like treating yourself, or if some expensive option is HEALTHY. That how I justify to myself every purchase I have ever made.
