Everything is already from China, but here we discuss the cheap chink shit you see on various sites.

Anyone know if you can get some cheap plant pots from ali? Preferably large and deep
>>
>>106685395
That sounds like one of the worst things to buy from Ali if you ask me.
Not only are they heavy and bulky (shipment cost), they're also fragile.
Unless you're talking about plastic ones and not actual vases.
>>
>>106685395
>Anyone know if you can get some cheap plant pots from ali?
Yeah, there's some decently priced sub irrigated planters too.
>Preferably large and deep
Probably not, shipping will fuck you if they are large. You probably will have better mileage going to a dollar store or something like that. Or getting some from a hardware store or garden store when on clearance.
If you want them for outside and don't mind the aesthetic, I built a bunch of SIPs on my balcony from hardware store buckets. Have served me well for 3 years so far and my plants have never been happier. It doesn't look as nice as terracotta of course.

Like ones where the pump part is still a clone of the ss03? I think I've mostly seen the generic ones that are heated, which I'm dubious about because I utterly despise those ultra cheap desoldering pumps., but if it's the ss03s with a heating element it might be nice.
>>
>>106686441
i have this one, and i have shilled a lot of times
havent seen any that is a clone of the ss03
they are way better than the generic ones, even if they look similar. they also cost way more
>>
>>106686466
yeah I'd have called that a generic one, interesting if you're saying they are much better.
>they also cost way more
How much more are we talking?
I found some for ~8$, but those are probably ass then.
There's electric ones that also do the sucking for ~25$, but they look horrible to hold and very short lived. At ~110-120$ you can get a proper desoldering gun.

From your experience how much of a difference does it make? Compared to, say, traditional pump and soldering iron, or even pump and hot air station. I don't particularly enjoy desoldering, but it's also not bad enough to justify the 120$ option for the proper tool, so these may or may not be a stopgap if they're worth the difference.

Geboon TC22 arrived.
It's just as great as I had hoped.
Comes packaged well, feels ultra premium, nice rubber feet, metal housing all around, good size LCD screen. Has an electrical sleep pin and a port for a grounding wire at the back, both of which are very appreciated.
Supports C245/C210/C115 and apparently even T12 tips.
Plenty of settings, sane UI, plenty of power, I'm happy.
The stand is also a nice metal holder that's super sturdy, also has rubber feet, and the sponge holder is a separate silicone piece you can remove for easy cleaning. Tolerances on the holder are also great.
The only thing that could be better I suppose is the compartment that holds the steel wool, it's functional, but getting the wool out could be better.
Got a bit sweaty as I tried to set the language to english from chinese as I forgot to check with the listing that english was an option, but google lens made it manageable and the english translation/language was available and seems great.

Overall I'm very happy with this thing, and for 61€ (what I paid) it's great value. I finally feel like I've achieved soldering iron endgame.

word of advice, they bloom into any empty space and get a rip if you don't seat them well or your rims have large gaps inside without tape or tape is too soft.
I had bursts from microbalooning near the valve.
went back to butyl.
they're a lot easier to patch though.

I just received two Deathadder Essentials I ordered on Ali. They're fucking dogshit. One of them had an assembly mistake which made the right click not work properly. I had to take it apart, but didn't realize there was a hidden screw, so now it's broken and I'll have to superglue it shut.
The second one looks like it might have taken a fall on the assembly line and there's a rattling sound of something loose inside.

Actual tape anon from a previous thread here. Lucky for you I'm not only into tape, but also bikes and a bit of tennis. So I can recommend getting a cycling bar tape or tennis overgrip. Just beware that pure EVA tapes -- and a lot of cheap tapes are EVA -- will soak water very well, but they also dry very fast. So I would recommend getting a silicone or polyurethane or coated one. Heard also heard that hockey tape was used for that, but haven't tried that myself.

Bought some junk
>usb-c IR transmitter
only works with some shitty app called ZazaRemote which is absolute chinese spyware. otherwise works fine

> silicone earplugs
bought them for a concert I went to a few weeks ago. worked well, buy the larger size when you're given a choice, the small ones didn't do a lot and I had to switch to foam plugs. The larger ones were far better and let me hear the music without being deafened

> magnetic rings fidget toy
bought these for work since the usual cubes make too much noise. would recommend, not my favorite out of all my fidget toys but they're nice

> multi usb C to other type converters
these work. case is cheap, but it was $2. i'd recommend it I guess, especially if you still have some stuff using micro-USB. can't tell you how much charging efficiency you lose

> Foldable Bluetooth Keyboard with Magnetic Stand
love it. Bought it so I can take notes at work without using a shitty as touch screen keyboard on my phone. folds lengthwise so it's much thinner than the usual folding keyboards. Keys feel nice, if a little squashed. Worst part is honestly the micro-usb charge port.

> cable bag
buy the bigger/2 layer version. Very useful, cleaned out 2 milk crates across the 2 I bought.

> propeller cap
best/worst thing ive bought on this platform, my SO wont let me go outside in it

>bootleg ridge wallet
ive stopped sitting on my wallet since my doc says my back is fucked. feels better using this, quality is great for $4. Seems like a cheap plate with acryllic over it on both sides, held in place by 3 bands. Money clip seems secure, not worried about it so far. very small

> >>106676553 (Old thread) (You) - Anon underestimated chinese clothing size differences and pays the price (they usually have size charts in the description, please read them)
I did look to be fair, some of it didn't have good sizes, like L on the Y2k shirt says EU size 40/42 so it sould be bit loose on me, but I could barely stretch it over myself and even sleeves were too tight, girls in reviews https://a.aliexpress.com/_EH2FtbC all have S and they don't look that small, not sure what's up.
and one I think was my mistake (ironically the male undershirt), I picked the smallest M cause they didn't have any size tables, I probably used a table from other listing but should have known better. I just have experience buying synthetic Ali shirts for cycling that were XL and it was too big, even though I was also using the table.
but I was mostly banking on these things being more stretchy, and while the fetishy net shirt (girl one) stretches a lot, the male one is stiff and would probably chafe.
and the holey stockings https://a.aliexpress.com/_EvQVI10 were one size but are in fact were so small for me I couldnt even get my thigh through the waist hole (im not so thick that my one thigh is bigger than some chinese girls hips), even though reviews looked alright.
picrel also looks fine on reviews, but I could also barely stretch it over my leg, my legs are not that big, like my thighs are 60cm around, and that's not huge right?
also without going into too much detail, but the other item got me shaking. wholeheartedly recommend the concept of it, but from a (maybe non chinese) quality store for good material.

At 165cm I'm a Chinese XL/western M and even then they are not exactly equal. They may be equivalent in length but the width of the Chinese XL can range from 80% to 95% of the western M size. So for jackets and pants the fit around the waist will be tighter and the pant legs may be smaller.

Of course I know that. I chose that store because it had 5000+ sold on that item. >>106693814
essentially when you buy a knockoff you're pretty much paying for the outside shape. the most basic razer knockoffs can't sync to razer synapse nor does it have the clickiness or durability or the feel of the scroll wheel, and they don't bother to copy how the wire is braided which is one big selling point of their mice

Are they? That makes the whole thing at least less retarded, none of the two mice mentioned (mx518 and G502) ever broke, so together with one of those Microsoft mice with a sensor ball before we had optical sensors they are the only mice I've ever used. I like the theory, but isn't quake an insanely fast paced multiplayer shooter if the players know the movement?
Either way I remember that those were the days of instagib custom servers, I certainly played hours of those on cube and urban terror, and that was no less fast paced than modern games.
I think it was probably moreso a mix of having no choice and it being a fashion thing ultimately where people buy a specific type because they read online it's the good type and then use it to impress other people who then do the same. Basically fashion for geeks.

there's like this flick thing you do when you do on those launch pads to jump higher and there are times you need to do a full 180 degree spin within a fraction of a second to spot an enemy. this was one of the most extreme cases of needing high sensitivity but we got around it by just moving our entire arms.

That must have been a regional thing, I feel like all of the people in my circles were on very high sens, that were the times where it was a sign of streetcred to have your keyboard at a 45-60 degree angle to save horizontal table space, because it showed you were on lan parties often enough to pick up the habit. Same logic for high sens, we used those small mousepads that you got as marketing gifts.
>these days the zoomers just do a slight wrist flick and it spins like 5 screens-worth

The crying squirrel that pops up after you rolled the slot machine makes me unreasonably aggressive/angry. It looks like AI slop and I hate when a company tries to emotionally manipulate so cheaply with a crying cutesy mascot.
The game is so not worth it anymore, progress is at a crawl, I've been stuck in a "hard" one for ages, and the rewards aren't even something I'd really care about if I could redeem today. I wanted one of those mops that you can pump to spray water with, which would actually have been worth my time, but now all I can redeem (in 5 years at this pace) is a shitty shaver that looks to be e-waste after 10 minutes of use, and a office foam pillow with a cutout for your balls, that I literally would throw away immediately because of how worthless it seems.
At least shit like the stir mug were cheaply made but something you might want to have around, the current stuff is worse than trash.

What's a cheap but decently-working soldering heat gun I can buy? I want to change the fucking DRIFTING sticks of my piece of shit Xbox Series X pad by Hall Effect or magnetic ones, but desoldering the sticks has been a nightmare. Those factory solders are no joke, and unless I manage to heat them all up at the same time, it's basically impossible to desolder. No, sucking up the solder one by one doesn't fucking werk.
I need it to be cheap enough, it's not like I'll use it for much else. Those stations seem overkill already.
>>
>>106695160
Do you add enough of your own (leaded) solder to joints for desoldering?
>>
>>106695169
I tried to use my own solder to help in the melt, but the factory solder wouldn't budge anyway, or so marginally it wasn't worth it. Now it reminds me I should have checked how much leaded was my own solder, maybe I'll try again this weekend, but I was about to throw everything out of the window out of anger.
>>
>>106695199
Yeah, make sure you have a quality leaded solder first. I couldn't get any soldering done when I started due to absolute garbage solder included with my cheap iron. Switched to a decent local-ish solder and it's been a breeze since.
>>
>>106693965
i use a mad r major myself and i can vouch for how high quality it is.
>>
>>106695160
If you really need a hot air station then https://csg-guide.neocities.org/#standalone-hot-air-stationsguns
All of those are fairly cheap.

But you shouldn't need one for controller sticks, for desoldering you can either use one of the engineer desoldering pump clones, or one of those self-heated ones, but those will cost the same as a hot air station or more (for the decent ones).
If it's really stubborn you can use solder wick to reduce the amount of solder pin by pin, though wick rarely if ever gets out the entire solder from the hole (works better on SMD).
I have seen the self heated pumps for ~5$ on bundles, but no idea how good they are and they seem sketchy, plus if they are badly made they probably work less well than just a iron + non heated (decent) pump.
>No, sucking up the solder one by one doesn't fucking werk.
It really should, unless you have an utterly ass iron and pump. That being said desoldering is always a pain in the ass.

Read the guide, it's been reworked recently and is up to date. Should cover all your issues.
https://csg-guide.neocities.org/#soldering-irons

>I don't understand what's the difference between 210/115/245 handles but I assume I don't need them all.
Those are all JBC handles/clones. Just think of them as different sizes with 115<210<245.
What size you want depends on your usecase, bigger is good for larger components with larger heatsinks, smaller is better for smaller SMD parts.
If you don't know what you need, 210 for allrounder or SMD, 245 for through hole or larger SMD.

If you don't know anything then JBC tips might be too specialized and you might be happier with T12 or TS100 tips, those are usually less specialized.

Well firstly I'm hetero, so guys in general don't do much for me, but in general I find the human form much more aesthetic than animals (in a sexual sense).
>you really never thought any of those cartoon animal people looked hot?
Meh not really. Ironically kaa from jungle book did something, which is weird because it's a he and he's very much not human, but even there it was moreso the concept of hypnosis than him/it being a snake. Same effect in Atlantis, I can imagine those two hypno scenes being written by someone who had a fetish for it.
The only "furry" character from disney I can understand finding hot is that rabbit from zootopia, but I never even watched that, so all I've seen are probably giga sexualized versions.
>but animals, wearing clothes having society.
Those are the newer disney movies, I'm old anon, they were after I watched disney movies. I watched like atlantis, treasure planet, fox and the hound and last unicorn (not disney I know, but great). With the notable exception of atlantis with the hypno scene, the rest just aren't sexualized much. I suppose the lieutenant from treasure planet is a fury woman, but I never was attracted to her.
I'm pretty vanilla anyways, but I can at least see it with some furry characters, issue is some are called furry and it's like a hot woman with animal ears, and others are also called furries and it's just an animal that can talk. I find that authentic genitalia leans towards the latter camp.
>>
>>106696700
>that stuffs been pretty vanilla for a while now.
I wonder about that, like light furry characters sure, but actual animal genitalia as dildos feels fringe to me.
Maybe I'm just too tame/vanilla though.
I don't mean degen in a "social outcast" or "moral hazard" sense, just in the sense that it's a somewhat maladjusted subsection of the population, I'd consider 4chan users to be some level of degenerate too kek.

>kaa and hoops
damn bro, youre even more furry than me
kaa is pretty cool probably to do with expressive face and big eyes, I think ponyfags get into that too. rabbit is cool, also not the most human shaped but just cartoony enough to be hot I think. another classic one is Lola Space Jam, must gotten buckets back in the day.

but yeah cartoon characters are pretty hot. anime too. most real people just look weird and awkward to me.
probably something like that animal population control phenomenon where they made fake animals with more pronounced characteristics so the animals went for the fake ones and didn't breed. but eh.
>those are the newer Disney movies
what you talking about, robin hood is from 1973 an people lust both for him and for Marian.
old cartoons are full of this stuff, modern ones are just more overtly furry.
treasure planet is also good but its not that old, it has CG even. and that cat girl is pretty hot I have to admit.
furry spectrum is pretty wide I guess but I'm just at a point where I don't care that someone calls something furry or not. anthropomorphic characters have predated the subculture by thousands of years so it doesn't really matter.
on that note also, always found for some reason that like wolf stuff with the knots is pretty hot, and doesn't even registers as animal in my head, if its not too realistic, but when people make furry girl bits its always really off-putting to me so maybe there's also something else about that. or like multiple nipples.

back on topic of chinkshit, I do see fantasy and monster dicks and onaholes, to a point where you can't even really tell what its supposed to be, or its just made up. guess if it feels good its good. I only tried a cheap Yeain Ginza anime onahole, was soft but the sizes are not too big, think 16cm tall, so I ripped through it eventually. was really soft and stretchy tho which was nice.
again though, realistic ones always seem weird. give me furry or anime and I'm happy.

That's ... probably not a good thing anon. Real people can be infinitely more cute once you get past the idealized outer appearance. Like a girl with a mildly crooked smile, or eyes that are somehow inbetween multiple colors. It can be the weirdest shit that you find appealing.
>what you talking about, robin hood is from 1973 an people lust both for him and for Marian
I can understand, but I can't empathize. That's just a cartoonized fox.
>anthropomorphic characters have predated the subculture by thousands of years so it doesn't really matter
There's a down the rabbit hole about furries, worth a look imo. I'm not a furry (as in I don't seek it out and most furry stuff doesn't do much for me), but it was very entertaining to learn about that subculture.
>where you can't even really tell what its supposed to be, or its just made up
Bad dragon popularized the idea of entirely made up anatomy, weird colors and shapes too.
>>
>>106697489
>maybe I just desensitised
Probably depends on where you live, I've never seen any furry shit IRL, it's all been online. No stickers (as in no sexualized stuff, there is the odd sticker of an anthropomorphized animal of course here and there), no costumes, and no open discussion anywhere.
>but it feels like whatever.
I mean the way I see it they're not harming anyone, and I don't care about "moral hazards" so godspeed. As long as it's consensual and everyone is old enough (some apparently didn't get the memo on that one kek), I don't care. Oldschool liberalism pilled and all that, let the people do their thing.
>i know never heard of it before but started using temu cause it got shipped in like tiktok or something.
Temu had a massive marketing push, it was everywhere for a while, still is the most downloaded app in most of europe iirc.
>4chan is also pretty damn normalfag now.
Meh not really, the internet in general just changed, but the ancient UI is a good gatekeeper for many people as a normie won't use 4chanX(T) etc.
Sure the containment boards are proportionally larger now, but if you stay clear of the big boards that normies might visit (used to be /b/, now it's /pol/ and /vt/) it's still very nieche. Ever been to the really small boards? Some weird (and entertaining) shit on there.

Yeah I think it's more a general shift to the vibe of the internet, rather than a unique aspect to 4chan. I do miss some aspects, but a lot of it was also very childish and we mostly enjoyed it because we were younger ourselves. 4chan especially is aging with its userbase to some extent.

Furry culture is not the same as being "a furry" for me. Anthros are pretty much just a normal part of every culture throughout history.
Being a furry to me is actually going to cons, dressing and having a different persona.
In that sense, furfagging is pretty much just drag, and I see a really big appeal in that, creating a whole different persona that you live out sounds amazing. Most furries I know embrace the shock they provoke on others and that just seems cool.

any idea if im supposed to remove this cardboard looking thing on the back of the macropad? not a fan of the screws scraping the table.
also anyone got any idea of why i cant detect my macropad with the rOzzy1987/MacroPad software? i tried adding the custom from the HID device with

otherwise i really like the numpad and macropad
>>
>>106701265
are you really asking that question right now?
are you afraid of voiding the warranty or something?
it's just paper stuck to acrylic to keep it from being scratched. just buy sillicone/rubber feet for it to put over the screws.

I found it fascinating how utterly incapable that guy was to have basic empathy, normally I'd attribute that to selfishness but he clearly wanted his wife to enjoy his hobby, yet was utterly incapable of seeing that what works for him as a guy having the tism into the hobby isn't great for a beginner.
It's like if I went into a tirade about tip grounding everytime someone asked about soldering, or the minute differences in 1000 grit sharpening stones for knives. It's not only overwhelming for a beginner, it's actively unhelpful.
>>
>>106701265
>any idea if im supposed to remove this cardboard looking thing on the back of the macropad?
It's on the backside, so it's really up to you. On the one hand I see little reason to leave it, as it provides little protection, on the other removing it doesn't improve visuals as it's the bottom anyways. So just do what feels right.
>>
>>106701265
To clarify what I said in >>106701448 :
The acrylic that is used to cut these sheets comes with that film as a overall protection, and they leave it on for shipping. It serves no intentional purpose and the assumption is you'll remove it once it arrives.
But you can still do whatever as the aesthetics of the underside of a peripheral kind of don't matter.

To me, he appears to be very consumed by, well, consumerism, and that total blindsides him to any practical considerations because he could have the bike just a little bit lighter. He won't rest as long as he knows there's something out there just a little bit better, and his wife is just secondary to that. She's just a means to justifying building a light woman's bike.
He and his wife have some kind of spending related tension too where he has to invent reasons for purchasing things and what she spends he considers somewhat his because she doesn't work.
Also, I think he wants his wife to be a hardcore cyclicst like him for the image of being a cyclist couple rather than her personal enjoyment of it, going back to the part where he sees a couple on a tandem, or when he is embarassed about being passed.
He comes off like a bit of a psychopath rather than just 'tistic.

I've seen 1 star reviews on Ali/Amazon that complain that the transparent acrylic items people have ordered are not the right color (brown) or are made from cardboard. Nobody knew to peel off the protective layer.
>>
>>106702377
>tell me why one should tip ground
Tip that isn't grounded can build up electrical potential, which then essentially creates a shock to the chips you are working on making them potentially break. The particular chips breaking is bad enough, worse is the debugging, because you may not notice when it happens and finding out where the issue is after soldering on a medium to large board (particularly one without plenty of well documented test contacts) is akin to prostate torture. You truly don't know how bad things are until you have to systematically figure debug a large SMD chip to find the chip that's fucked, especially if it only broke partially (which can happen).
>and what the differences are in 1,000 grit sandpaper
Sharpening stones.
The differences are response, speed, consistency of the grit (as the grit rating is an average, with no mention of deviation size) and longevity. A 1000 grit generic oxide stone from your local chinese food store is not the same as a shapton stone, which is not the same as a diamond plate with the same grit etc. These are fundamentally different products with different up and downsides.
Does the average normie need the expensive ones? No. Are they even comparable to the cheap ones? Not really.

seems to me the wife doesn't care about cycling
>>
>>106703095
True, but to be fair, I wouldn't care about cycling either if I had to get on some uncomfortable and ultralight flimsy (from the POV of a beginner) bike, use foot clamps before I can even get comfortable riding, and get yelled at both when not riding fast enough and when falling.
He took an activity with a solid 70% chance of his wife enjoying it once she gave it a chance (maybe more, she was willing to put up with a lot for him after all, so she was probably really motivated) and turned that activity into a 20% chance by making any association with it negative.

If you want to get someone into a hobby with you, you want to make it easy, rewarding, and limited in scope to not be overwhelming.
Imagine I take my GF fishing or hiking.
I can give her a harder to use baitcast spool on a ultralight rod at a lake that has plenty of plants to get many snags, or I can prep a nice picnic for breakfast with coffee and eggs, go to that lake that has less fish but is nicer to look at with her at sunrise and make it a positive memory. Or go to one of those fish farm lakes so she's basically guaranteed she'll get a trout or something.
For hiking, imagine I force a 1 week hike with plenty of elevation through rough terrain from the beginning, she'd have to associate hiking with pain and suffering.
Instead I might do a simple overnight trip, where we hike up a mountain, camp, look at the sunrise on the mountain the next morning before going back home, or maybe a 3 day trip with plenty of rest inbetween.

In one of these approaches you really can't fault the person being introduced to the hobby for not liking it, they never had much of a chance to.

Yes, I understood that part. But why would someone say that? What's the moral of the tale so to speak. In my eyes it's "being the first isn't always good" which I immediately associate being said by someone as to why he never does shit, maybe I'm mindbroken on this if both of you anons didn't get that association on your end kek.
>it's kind of like, you watch the first guy figure out how to do the thing and then you free-ride off their efforts to do the thing yourself by copying them
Arguably that's still not virtuous, but I can see how that could be moreso intended as a "there's value in patience" message rather than a "rotmaxx and let others figure it out" joke.

>do you have a Kobo? if so, what's the benefit if I'm jailbreaking the kindle anyway (considering it can be jailbroken)?
As compensation for some trivial programming job years ago I was given a kindle 3rd gen (still werks flawlessly). It's nice, I've done lots of reading, but I mostly create my own ebooks from open sources because I don't want to buy from amazon. Ergo, it's always on airplane mode because I don't want amazon to remotely lock or brick it, nor know what "extremist" content I read. I even bought the original paperwhite a few years later and gave the 3rd gen to my firstborn son.
I haven't bothered jail-breaking any of them, because I'm happy as-is. They do the job, nice screen, good interface for 3rd gen, sufferable interface for paperwhite. However, had Kobo been out back then, I would've gotten one instead.

Buy a 1st gen Oasis. This was the best e-reader Amazon ever made, and the best e-reader any company has ever made. It's half the weight of "modern" units, because instead of putting a 20 hour battery in the e-reader, they put it in the case, and then made the case magnetic with pogo pins so you could detach it to read more comfortably. After the Voyage and 1st gen Oasis, Amazon realised that they had accidentally made products that were too good, so they have spent the past decade making their products shitter so people have a reason to buy the "new" versions that are slightly better than the last garbage release.
>>
>>106709160
>It's half the weight of "modern" units, because instead of putting a 20 hour battery
You say that like they don't still weight basically nothing.
And the battery lasts for months, not 20 hours.
>>
>>106709170
They last "months" if you barely use them. 25-50 real world hours is typical usage.

>they don't still weight basically nothing.
My new chink reader weighs basically nothing, that little guy is 74g, which is a little over half of what the Oasis weighs. The Oasis is very light at 133g, and most modern battery bloated e-readers are 200g+. Sure, they're not heavy, but once you add a case you're over 300g, and those cases are typically clip on shit you can't instantly remove to start using the e-reader.

It's the T-14 Armata (the latest design from Russia), a tank with an unmanned turret, a modular multi-fuel X-engine, an autoloader and a hull that can be reused for other vehicles like the T-15 or T-16. It's quite advanced in terms of design with its reusable hull, modular engine, and unmanned turret. The problem is, with drones, it's not going to perform any better than the latest western tanks that we have seen in Ukraine. There is also a prototype for a remotely controlled assault tank driving around.

They went the same way Xiaomi did, just much faster. Started as a quality good value brand, noticed people are buying and gauged up prices to brand-name levels. It's a decent keyboard still, just on the expensive side.

That anon isn't wrong.
You got a good product (as in well made, good QA) for a very fair price. It was always cheaper quality switches and such, but everything felt good and lasted for long.

The rest of what that anon said is wrong though, adjusting prices to market demand isn't price gauging and it's not like xiaomi either.

I fucking love my Olight Oclip Pro. Having an actual three position switch for spot, flood, red instead of Anduril autism is great.
>RGB
Red light is a surprisingly useful feature when you need to quickly locate something in complete darkness and don't want to blind yourself with white light.
>>
>>106714447
>Olight Oclip Pro
that one seemed great, but it was more than I felt like spending on such a flashlight (although I end up using these pocket lights a ton)
The one I've gotten has stepless switching between colors so idk if it would be easy to stop it on pure red (but at least it should save the last color used when you turn it off)
I've heard that green light is actually better than red to preserve night vision since it lets you see more with less power, but honestly white on moonlight does the trick for me anyway
>>
>>106714374
That makes sense, does a water steamer work well on polyester? I never had one (other than the steam function built in with most irons these days). Either way it probably is much less aggressive on the material so that's good.

Keep in mind that light-tism is a hobby and like most hobbies at the upper bounds of quality you pay astronomically more for marginal improvements.
The blackpill is that the light austists 100$ giga flashlight in the end does the same thing as the one from the guy in the bundles who got a mini edc flashlight for 2$. It lights stuff up.
Sure the 100$ flashlight can light things up that's 200m away, but how often do you really need that and in return despite having 10x the battery size of the edc light it lasts the same time because it wastes so much power.
If you want to get into it for the hobby, by all means, enjoy yourself. But never let anyone tell you that you need to pay top money for a useful light.

Pic very much rel. Got that for 2€, mine glows in the dark, has a focus light, has a magnet on the back to attach to shit when working somewhere, has a clip to attach to your clothes, has a floodlight, has USB-C charging, is small as shit so easy to edc.
Is it as good as the expensive ones? No. Does it get the job done when trying to fix shit at home? Sure does.

>>
>>106714784
Yeah there's some very powerful stuff you can get for reasonably cheap. The issue is that for most people it's entirely larping.
Like you show off how far your flashlight can reach around the campfire and everyone goes "oh wow gee, that sure is far" and then you use it the same way as any other flashlight, to light up the path 2m in front of you.
I'm not saying that's not a valid usecase, but people sometimes act like anything less is pure trash kek.
For my usecase (fishing and hiking) what matters is actually the quality of the pwm controller and thus the lowest brightness setting, not the brightest for example. So I care about battery capacity, lowest brightness and weight. Meanwhile someone else might value sturdy construction and highest brightness instead.
>>106714797
It's just a feature that apparently some people care about, it's like your keyboard having a setting with RGB lights that does a strobe effect or some shit. I can't imagine ever wanting that, but apparently I'm the odd one out there. Issue is a red mode is one I very much do like, and often the red mode and the other random flashing modes are behind the same button presses.

Well, these mostly useless features aren't the problem imo. The problem is the fake minimalism and button phobia of modern electronics. Especially after touch smartphones, the retarded designers everywhere decided that one button is all you need and that's how we got shit like pressing a button 12 times to cycle through to the right mode.

I have a better chink version of pic related as EDC, it's pretty good. It has two buttons so the "fun" features are relegated to the right button, getting them out of the way. And the press and hold is temporary max brightness (no matter your brightness setting) so that's quick access to what you need.

>>106714707
>Keep in mind that light-tism is a hobby
Yeah but these things are quite mass-produced. Also I have one (but slightly bigger) like in your pic, also ~$2. It's pretty bad though compared to the ~$15 one in my pic.

Brightness is very important when outside. Giga flashlights aren't very useful due to their size but they do cost a lot because they have expensive hardware.

Also I build all kinds of lights DIY, often in this clip form factor.

>>106714839
>I paid much less than that, around 30 bucks.
Oh, nice. Might just be getting EU-fucked. For that I think I'd buy one too, now.

I haven't followed the war closely and am very much an armchair observer, but aren't the modern western leopards reasonably effective? I haven't heard much about them, but I'd assume the same for the abrams. They just aren't effective in the way they were designed, and their armor doesn't matter as much, but their speed in rough terrain and stabilization make them much better than the older models for the current "attack quickly and strongly, then fuck off before the artillery and drones decimate you" tactics. Obviously not the greatest way to showcase their strengths, but they're still substantially stronger than older models.
>>
>>106714842
>Issue is a red mode is one I very much do like, and often the red mode and the other random flashing modes are behind the same button presses.
true it's exactly the issue I'd have with the one I just bought if I wanted a red light.
My cheap keyboard (Machenike k500 iirc) has rgb too and I always keep it off, but oddly enough I couldn't find a similar affordable, hot-swappable mechanical keyboard with numpad on aliexpress that didn't have rgb. Like why is it hard to find something with FEWER features in the cheap tiers lol, meanwhile expensive keyboards without useless lights are plentiful
>>
>>106714867
>Brightness is very important when outside
Can you explain how? I never understood that logic personally. Sure brightness matters when it's already bright out (daytime), as it's competing against the sun, but if it's that bright, then arguably I don't need a flashlight to begin with. And when it's night, then even the shitty flashlights will easily light up the next ~20m of path ahead of you, which is more than I need. Instead I use my flashlight almost entirely on the lowest brightness setting, usually in red mode. Conserves battery, I see what I care about (the next few meters of path ahead), lower profile, so less likely to be spotted when that matters, and that way I retain some of my natural nightvision so I can still make out rough shapes ahead where the flashlight doesn't reach unless it's a night without starlight due to clouds. If I had a brighter light, I'd get less battery life, I'd have a better vision the next 10m or so of the path that I don't really care about, and it'd disable my nightvision such that anything outside this cone of light becomes invisible for me. In my opinion, even without the battery issues and cost associated, I'd much rather see 2m and have natural nightvision for the rest than see 10m and be blind beyond that. For fishing it's even more important because it can scare off some fish.
The one area where I see the reasoning is for bicycles because you're faster there so seeing further ahead is necessary so you have enough time to react in time.
Like what is a situation where you are happy to have the ability? I've never cared with any of my flashlights, I maybe use the settings outside of lowest brightness 2% of the time total.
>>
>>106714867
>Also I have one (but slightly bigger) like in your pic, also ~$2. It's pretty bad though compared to the ~$15 one in my pic.
If you ever need one more item for your bundles case consider getting that exact one, I have 2 and have gifted like 5 over the years, you can often also find them for 2-2.5€ still. They are bright enough to light up a room in floodlight mode (the side) and I can easily light up my neighbors house completely (20m) at night in normal mode. Surprisingly bright for the size. Batter life isn't amazing obviously, but that's a tradeoff you do for the form factor. It also gets kinda hot.
>>
>>106714913
>Like why is it hard to find something with FEWER features in the cheap tiers lol, meanwhile expensive keyboards without useless lights are plentiful
The power of scalar effects for cheap manufacturing kek.
It's annoying because weird as it sounds I'd pay an additional 2-5€ just to have those features removed kek. At least with RGB on a keyboard you can usually turn it off it's just annoying when it hides in other settings you need.
>>
>>106714935
>Can you explain how?
not him but I live on the mountains and on certain rocky trails it would be really hard to find your way with anything less than a few hundreds of lumens, or this one time I was at a bivouac and some hikers were coming up but it was already dark and the retards had only their phones' flashlights, so I lit the way up for them from above (the last few dozens of meters up were a bit tricky and dangerous) with a 4000 lumens floody flashlight, which was barely enough to see things decently from that distance.
When I go running in winter my 500 lumen headlamp is barely enough even on easy trails, I need to see the terrain very well to avoid hurtin myself.
Anything above 1000 is for niche use cases I admit, but up to that it's very useful to have more light imo
>>
>>106714935
>>106715028
once you use a flashlight where there are no streetlights you can appreciate just how much light output a single flashlight can give and how helpful streetlight and the moon is in terms of ambient light
i walked into this tunnel once during the dusk where there were no lights and thank god i had my EDC flashlight. it lit the entire tunnel up until the other end
>>
>>106714935
One of my main uses is being seen by traffic. I don't want to look like a xmas tree with lights on my backpack or something, so I just turn on my light in a situation where I need to be seen (like crossing a road).
What I do is shine it down where I want to go (and where they will drive), for that to be visible the light needs to be quite strong.

>Sure brightness matters when it's already bright out
This can be a pretty bright scenario (Just not where im standing), even though it's completely dark out. There's streetlights, bright signs, bright windows, headlights of other cars...

In more complete darkness (usually forest in my case) I mostly want the high brightness to see further.
>>
>>106715028
>on certain rocky trails it would be really hard to find your way
Ah I can see that actually, the trails I hike on rarely have stones higher than hip height for me, so if you go a suboptimal route that's just one or two mildly more annoying spots along the way, but if it's larger rocks and you have to plan your route ahead then having a proper light probably really helps. Good example anon, thanks.
>When I go running in winter my 500 lumen headlamp is barely enough even on easy trails, I need to see the terrain very well to avoid hurtin myself.
Have you given it a try? I think a lot of people who find it hard to imagine doing it my way with very low brightness never tried, so they assume it's like the area they don't light up when they go, but it's really not, having a bright light makes it so anything outside your lightcone is basically invisible because of the way our pupils adjust, but if you have no or little light your nightvision is suprisingly decent with starlight.
>>106715056
>and how helpful streetlight and the moon is in terms of ambient light
Yeah exactly, it's just that when there's a bright lightsource then you can't see shit outside it, but when it's actually dark you realize how much light there still is when it's moonlight or starlight only.
>>
There's a sort of flashlight autist bell curve where the middle part is thinking you need hundreds or thousands of lumens to do anything useful. It is nice to have it and not need it though.

You'll often find a lot of the high end stuff is more about the quality of the tool itself and the interface.

>What I do is shine it down where I want to go (and where they will drive), for that to be visible the light needs to be quite strong.
That actually makes sense too, where I hike or fish there's no traffic so I never cared about that but that makes sense to me as a good usecase. I have retroreflectors on some of my gear for the rare cases where I do, and they seem to work surprisingly well, but I get how you'd want that ability regardless.
>In more complete darkness (usually forest in my case) I mostly want the high brightness to see further.
Thanks for giving the examples anon, it makes sense the way you describe it and it also makes sense why I'd never have cared (as they are different usecases than mine). Give it a try in a forest though for me once, turn off the light and sit down for 2-5 minutes or so, then look around and see what you can see in what you assumed was total darkness. It's shocking sometimes, nights rarely have really no light, pretty much only when it's heavily overcast. (Granted if you're in a forest with a thick canopy of trees then it might not work).
When I was younger I'd often miss the last train back home when partying and then walk home through the forest (~10km).
I'd always have to convince friends with me to turn their goddamn phone lights off, because they don't really help much but they are just bright enough that your nightvision doesn't activate and as a result you see fuckall. Those trips through the forest were tourist paths though, it's different on actual hiking trails or anywhere where there's a lot of hazards.

I have, normally I keep the light on low but when I get to a slightly technical downhill section I have to crank it up to high, otherwise with the extra speed it becomes too hard to see the ground properly. But overall I agree that you can usually get away with very little light to illuminate your way

Just to be clear do NOT do what I suggested when on a bicycle kek. There's a reason downhill riders who ride into the night have a giant floodlight and a fucking super bright focus light.
I'm talking when you're walking, with downhill mountainbiking has too many hazards, you're gonna find a fallen down branch on the course and impale yourself or some shit.
