AMD vs Intel seems like a marketing trick. Why would media focus center so much scrutiny and standardization, testing, youtube reviews, etc. on the one PC component that rarely goes bad (outside of failures like 14900K) and never bottlenecks, instead of actual problematic PC components like PSU's (which can damage your whole system), SSD's which actually go bad (even nice ones like Samsung 980s) all the time due to write lifecycles, AIO brands which can fuck your PC by overheating from failed radiators, or GPU price to performance (a bit better than the rest)? RAM surely also has some room for media consensus on what's good and bad, who can say if G Skill 32 GB is going to last longer than TEAMGROUP?

I don't get it, why is everyone here obsessed with newest [thing] releases? My 1070 can run games in 4k without any problems. No, not just indie slop, stuff like Arma and other modern shooters. Hell, I finished cyberpunk on medium graphics, though that did lag slightly at times.
Starting to think every single benchmark site is a fucking scam or that my rig is blessed by gods when I see people debating GPU performance.

because you're coping, lying and seething. Your gpu doesnt even get updates anymore, although considering the india-levels of current Njudea gpu drivers, maybe thats a good thing.

the entire point of this general is to discuss the latest products and theorycraft pc builds. If you're happy with your poverty-rig, then go make the "third world pc enthusiasts general" and talk about how happy you are with a 4core cpu.
>>
I'm about to build my new PC this weekend, and so I've also got a question about overclocking/undervolting. Should I do it, and how? I know that for RAM I should enable EXPO in BIOS, to the speed on the box (6000mhz, 30cl). For CPU (9800x3D) there is some PBO stuff, right? And for GPU (5070ti), there is something through MSI afterburner? That's pretty much where my knowledge ends. How does it work with warranty?
>>
>>106688879
Right, that's what I'm saying. Unless you're doing niche things like scientific simulations, GPU is your bottleneck, and it's recommended that it be your GPU when running heavy tasks.

>who can say if G Skill 32 GB is going to last longer than TEAMGROUP?
your cpu/motherboard is more likely to burn out/degrade before your ram does
>SSD's which actually go bad
their failure rates are lower than HDDs, but this is a hard-to-quantify metric and any ssd with a dram cache is generally reliable
>AIO brands which can fuck your PC by overheating from failed radiators
thats retarded, also you should have a display panel somewhere on your rig showing temps if you use an AIO, many AIOs display this on the pump itself. This simply shouldnt happen.

The more ram the better, so long as it fits on 2x sticks.

Nigga arma is a very light game on GPUs, its mostly CPU/RAM and drive bound. To give an idea, i used to run it with a A10-7850K CPU, 8Gb 2133Mhz ddr3 and an RX 560 off a toshiba HDD and got 20-40 fps on 1080p low settings 2000 meter draw distance. Now i put in a 9600x and 32Gb 6000 cl36 (didnt go with cl30 due to retardation on my part) and still have the rx 560 and still run it off the HDD and im getting 80 FPS with very high settings, MSAA off, 1080p and 4500 meter draw distance. The RX 560 was equivalent to like, a gtx 950 in performance. Your ability to run arma at 4k is irrelevant because just about any entry to midrange GPU made in the last five years can do it
>>
>>106688899
Depending on your mobo you might have PBO and X3D overdrive/boost/whatever-the-fuck. Your mobo manufacturer will probably have a PDF with documentation on what every setting in the BIOS doesin the mobo support page were the manual is, read it, you will learn some nice stuff

the 5070TI
>>
>>106689104
If you only care about gaming then 9070xt is cheaper and has better driver support (nvidia dropped the ball this generation). If you want to generate sloppa and game then get the 5070ti. If you want to do productivity stuff (editing/blender) even a legacy GPU would be enough for 99% of use cases so it doesn't matter. If you want to do game dev then they are equivalent. If you are on linux/planning to go linux then 9070xt is boosted by AMD having really good open source linux drivers that a bunch of giga autists keep up to date at all times.

How much difference does SSD actually make? I'm building a workstation and does SN5000 make a difference vs NV3
>>
>RTX 6060
>>
>>106689376
No one reviews hardware that breaks, are you new?
>>
>>106689376
single most noticeable computer upgrade you can make
SATA vs NVMe SSD is kinda not noticeable
PCIe generation differences are even less noticeable
things to look for are QLC vs TLC (you want TLC for better endurance) and DRAM-less vs DRAM (you want DRAM also for better endurance) - if the specs listed on the website don't tell you those two pieces of information, either do some research or ask ChatGPT to do it for you
>>
>>106689376
If the work involves moving/copying/ingesting large files on a regular basis then a top-end SSD will speed that operation up. If not then it won't make much difference (though secondary concerns like durability are still present).

>does SN5000 make a difference vs NV3
Here you're comparing a TLC model to a QLC one so while the top line performance is broadly similar the NV3 is significantly less durable and significantly slower once SLC caching is exhausted. I wouldn't really recommend QLC for any boot drive but it could be fine for bulk storage or short-term backups.
>>
>>106688899
>Should I do it
you shouldn't do it just because a techtuber told you to
they all make some stupid clickbait video telling you how easy it is so you copy their settings and your system crashes once every 10 minutes
enable EXPO and leave it at that
if you're genuinely interested then of course, go for it
>How does it work with warranty?
the manufacturer can't tell that you've overclocked (i think some threadsrippers blow an efuse when you enable OC mode, but no consumer platform does this AFAIK)
so if you don't tell them it doesn't affect your warranty

If IO is good enough for you it's completely serviceable board, but depending on the price you could find better deals.

I specifically looked for something without WIFI because I assume that's just gonna make it cost more. I use a cable connection so I don't care much about that

>>
>>106689767
just my hypothesis after using the G80SD these past weeks with vrr on, I mistakenly thought I could turn in off in another setting in windows but it did nothing, now it's actually off and not causing black screens

considering people have complained about this in all other monitors too it might be related to other things but idk

considering eye strain would it not be better to have less tearing for your eyes idk

they also say oled has a brightness dip that can trigger people because it's not 100% flicker free in reality, that has nothing compared to when vrr flicker and the brightness flickers non stop, that's extremely noticeable, more than tearing

If the motherboard didn't get updated UEFI from the manufacturer you would need to use USB flashback function to get at least 7E27v19 UEFI according to MSI support page.
Otherwise motherboard would not boot.
You don't even need to install CPU inside the motherboard to flash UEFI on AM5.
You just need Fat32 or exFat USB stick with UEFI file on it.
But it might just work out of the box if it's later revision.

That is very bad. Gen 10 through 13 had something to write home about but there's no reason to get Intel unless you find a rare deal on something. Still there is no reason to spend 430$ if you aren't going out with a monitor/other components to match it's potential. (And also why those aren't the defaults, since the settings are based on that particular device not just the model.)
Since it would be my first time trying it, I don't think I want to go into too advanced manual adjustments, just some simple stuff.
Good to know about the warranty.
Thanks.

Benchmarks depend on what cooling and other components are used. 360mm AIO will do better than the dual fan. with that GPU it will stay cool all the time Id still be getting like a 7900xtx at that price if ray tracing doesn't bother you

Bought a more expensive 5070ti and have felt bad about it the entire time. I didn't pay any scalper prices or anything, but I could have bought an msrp 5080 if I waited. I've wasted more money on things I've used less, but for some reason I still feel bad about it even though that was around when it launched.
>>
>>106693336
theres an amd schizo that takes over the op every now and then, hes been more subtle on the op in recent weeks
if you need to know the difference
the 5070ti is also considered in the high range 4k, iirc its because the money you spend for a 5080 given the difference in performance isnt worth it
for cpu, the intel part that is missing is
>Intel: If deeply discounted (265K for value & reliability, 12600KF budget, 14600K midrange)
now that I look at it the cases have some of them missing and the cooler has the phantom spirit which is worse than the peerless assassin V3
even the fucking ram is incomplete since it doesn't have the Intel suggestions
only ssd and case fans were left unmolested by the schizo

Poorfagging a 1660 back then and if I remember right I boughted it at a time when the Super was available. Whatever my financial situation was back then, should have coughed up a little more for the Super instead.

Got a replacement case once for the above machine that was no-name brand. It had an acrylic front panel with a mediocre grate slit on one side of the front and a hole at the bottom. Problem with this bad-airflow case is that it was about 1cm from being a no-airflow case, that's how close the solid acrylic was to the frame of a standard 120 fan. And no, the I/O's wiring and website's images made it clear that the fans were meant to be mounted to the front of the mounting bracket rather than its rear, not that it would have helped the case breathe very much. Had to pop off the acrylic and fabricate my own mesh front and drilled additional holes in the plastic to make it functional, but after all that effort it became very functional. Did I even regret getting to play with DIYing a case?

So I plan on saving up to upgrade my Rx 6600xt to an rtx card for blender renders and animations, but the cards I've been researching are all confusing on what's the best price to performance wise.

I'm looking to save around $500-600, and the majority of them have been around the same price, so if anyone can help recommend which one I should buy I'd appreciate it

9800X3D is only slightly faster and not worth it unless you are sleeping on cash.
I think those aren't getting much more cheaper than that, GPU situation is more complicated.
FSR is finally usable so 9070XT should last you a while.
Depending how much extra is 5070Ti for you, it's also valid option.

The PSU in my 10 year old PC seems to be dying, what do I need to look at to replace it, just the wattage and the rating or have there been any major hardware changes in the meantime that would cause incompatibility with new PSUs that I need to look out for
>>
>>106695161
No release date for Zen6.
So next year is the most likely.
Check the price of 7700 or 7700X, I grabbed 7700 for my friend for 180€ last week so those are significantly cheaper than 9700X. 7800X3D are also only ~50€ more expensive than those Zen5 8 cores.

Tower is always better than blowdown and they make single and double towers short enough for your case. Peerless Assassin 120 Mini should fit, if you want more headroom you can go for the Peerless Assassin 90 instead (smaller fan but it's fully covered by the fin stack).

7800X3D for 382€

The new fans can push the same amount of air at lower RPMs.
You won't notice whatever minor thermal improvement of the extra heatpipe, but you will notice the improved operating noise of the new fans.

You buy Thermalright because it's a budget-friendly option; buying replacement fans defeats the purpose of getting a Thermalright cooler.
