Twin tower aircoolers are great because they just werk™ so i prefer them for any CPU that doesnt get hot enough to actually require water cooling. Its so nice to just be able to plug a peerless assassin for 35€ into the vast majority of systems and not have to worry about it.

Would buying a 5090 from some defunct Chinese datacenter that wouldve seen constant 24/7 action generating sloppa even be worth the trouble? Hi quick question, I built my first PC recently and really wanted to test the visuals in some games, but i only have my old 60hz 1080p monitor since im waiting for cyber monday or black friday for a good deal on certain things.

I was wondering if playing those games in 1080p would ruin the experience so much that i should rather wait and play indie/old titles until then, or is the difference between 1080p and 1440p not big enough to justify that?

As far as im aware, the other factors arent that important when it comes to monitors unless you compare OLED to non-OLED (and maybe power consumption)

The current AAA game scene is a mess of unoptimized garbage so only going all out with a 4090/5080/5090 will guarantee stable 100 FPS even at 1440p for a lot of them, but for reasonably well optimized games like battlefield 6 then the 9070xt and the 5070ti will both achieve that and are generally the only cards that fit into budget.
So, get a B650 or B850 motherboard with a PCIe5.0x16 slot, get a ryzen 7800x3d, its about 8% slower than the 9800x3d but you can find it for about 300€ in europe compared to 400-450 for the 9800x3d and then either the 9070xt or the 5070ti. From what ive seen the 9070xt goes for about 650€ in most of the EU, no idea about the 5070ti. You could also get a 9070 non XT to save on 50€, its got a few less cores but can be slightly overclocked and undervolted to achieve similar performance. Also if you get the XT version you should undervolt and adjust fans, you can get -100watts of power consumption and lowered sound for about 5% performance drop

forgot to add, you'll need DDR5 memory for the AM5 socket CPUs, 2x16 is enough but make sure to get 6000Mhz and CL30 latency, best performance for the CPUs of the socket and can be found for about 100€. Well bros.. I'm retarded. 2 failed boots so far.. I've got a MSI PRO B850M-A with a AMD Ryzen 7 9700X.. Both times I've booted I've gotten a red CPU is not detected or fail LED and a yellow DRAM is not detected or fail LED on the mobo.. The only thing I'm thinking is wrong (which I can't do anything about it right now) is not plugging power into this 4-pin CPU_PWR1 but.. from my research I didn't think I needed this. For the 40 series comparisons, you just can't do that unless your shop of choice has 4070 Supers still in stock. They are out of production precisely they are on the same node as the 50 series, so prices and availability can be not any better. You must take a look at the pricetags before settling for a 40 series if that is what you are currently looking at.

With your card selection its hard to say because your range is fairly large in the midrange segment. Any of them will be a very large upgrade to your 1070. As long as you have 16GB it will be fine. You will always be using upscaling in the current year, it does not matter what you pick. Do also double check if your 9060 XT comparison to the 5060 Ti is an 8GB or 16GB model. The latter is slightly more powerful and of course has Nvidia's better upscaling, but maybe not 70 euros (+20%) much.

When the 9070 first shipped AMD was surprised by the actual demand for it in the market and upped production causing prices to begin falling across the board, plus they recently launched a 9060 non-xt model made from discarded wafers which means that production is either still active for RDNA4 or finishing so that they can gear up for UDNA which will likely be openly announced some time next year. You might want to play with power limit and core voltage.
The XT's power limit is a bit past the efficiency curve so hitting it with some negative power limit and then undervolting can be good. Depending on how much undervolt is stable, you can get stock PL performance or higher.
Or, you could leave the power limit alone and just undervolt.

hmm, if the PSUs both work well then either the OC BIOS is fucked or the card gets fucked when drawing full power. Either way consider reaching out to customer support to see if you are eligible for RMA. Just make sure that the 8 pin connectors of the PSUs can actually supply at least 200 watts, the 9060xt caps at 175watts but its good to be a bit above. If you dont want to bother with RMA shit then maybe try running the OC BIOS with a -50mA undervolt and -20% power limit in radeon adrenaline settings, might also have to limit the core clock speed to 2900-2950mhz. Of course, you could just stick to the silent BIOS if it just werks :)

Yep, RM850x shift (bit pointless because there's barely any cable mess under the PSU shroud to even bother with the side connectors but I found it for cheap). All that ever worries me is thermals and noise.

As far as GPU driver issues, I'm on linux so definitely going to be an issue. I was thinking I'd start with just the iGPU since I'm not doing anything particularly graphics intensive, and then down the line add a midrange card if I need it. But who the hell knows what will work. Nvidia notoriously has issues, though they've worked for me most of the time for decades, and from what I've read it's not all sunshine and rainbows on the AMD side either, and then there's Intel ARC...
All this had me almost tempted to buy a Mac, but the ongoing enshittification of Mac OS, the non-upgradibility, and the usurious prices for RAM and SSD upgrades, and the lack of a plan b for when they end support have mostly dissuaded me. On the other hand, audio stuff just fukken works.
