I'd recommend therapy. I had very bad imposter syndrome early in my career and went to therapy for unrelated reasons. A year of therapy helped me learn how to deal with that imposter feeling and move past it.

Imposter syndrome is a good thing desu. You always want to be in positions where you are learning and applying that experience to your resume. If you are in a comfy position this tech industry will eventually leave you behind. If the telecom guys didn't move over to Voip, AV, Networking then they would have lost their jobs entirely.

Its based upon Latin. Most of the scientific terms are either Latin or Greek which fucks up english even more since we are English, German and French bastardizations(some spanish). There's an endemic other syndrome in tech which is like anti-imposter syndrome where you think you know everything possible and you're highly disagreeable and it's these kind of guys that make everyone else feel like imposters. They will proactively find ways to make others feel stupid/ignorant, it's like the opposite defense mechanism for the same insecurity.

>God i fucking hate drywall
Really? Sure, its messy as fuck but i found it easy to work with. I used normal keystone jack wall plates. Two bedrooms got wall plates with a single keystone jack for a single ethernet line each, my bedroom and the basement bedroom got a two-jack plate for two ethernet lines each, and the livingroom got a 6-jack plate (3 ethernet, 1 coax, 1 hdmi and 1 usb). Another drywall cutting project was installing a hidden in-wall gun safe; that made so much fucking dust im still finding it on things

The hardest part was using the cable snake and getting cable runs exactly where i wanted without snagging on anything

>>
>>106950100
Its actually the opposite as the EMI degeneration lowers with the higher standard the speed improves but the distance lowers due to attenuation. You would need a repeater inplace to solve that but that is a non starter in a house due to fire risk.
Category Speed (Max) Bandwidth (Max) Distance (Max) Shielding Options Applications Notes
Cat5 10 Mbps 100 MHz 100 meters (328 feet) UTP Older installations not recommended for new deployments Outdated, limited speed
Cat5e 100 Mbps 100 MHz 100 meters (328 feet) UTP Older installations, basic networking Improved over Cat5, but still outdated
Cat6 10 Gbps 250 MHz 55 meters (180 feet) UTP/STP Home networks, small office networks, gaming Good balance of speed and cost
Cat6a 10 Gbps 500 MHz 100 meters (328 feet) UTP/STP Larger networks, data centers, high-bandwidth applications Longer distance at 10 Gbps than Cat6
Cat7 10 Gbps 600 MHz 100 meters (328 feet) STP High-speed networking, data centers, demanding applications Shielded for better noise reduction
Cat7a 10 Gbps 1000 MHz 100 meters (328 feet) STP High-speed networking, data centers, demanding applications Higher bandwidth than Cat7
Cat8 40 Gbps 2000 MHz 30 meters (98 feet) STP Data centers, server rooms, high-bandwidth applications Designed for very high speeds over shorter distances

>>
>>106950167

>>
>>106950201
Fuck this isn't even accurate hell most of the websites aren't that accurate on this info due to brand variation for quality. But if you had a McMansion then you would have to worry about having cables be to long due to attenuation as you went up the ladder towards cat8.
>>
>>106950202
Not really. Some places fire 5–10% of the workforce through PIPs every year.
>>
>>106950100
i think the other poster is misinformed. cat ratings don't improve the distance, they improve bandwidth. 100 metres is the recommended max length, but you can probably push that slightly. beyond that either put a switch in the middle or go optic.

Regarding burnout... a few days ago I made a flow chart showing the process I went through for most projects until last year. Maybe some of you can relate.

People don't value you based on the quality of your work, or how fast you do it. They view you purely based on the impression you give them.

Work is most satisfying when it both paints a good impression and you know it's high quality, even when the impression you paint is not an accurate representation of what you have produced.

>>
>>106950236
That's IBM but generally most Finance places/banks/stock exchange locations tend to only do 30-50% firings for the entry level jobs then 10% for the next step before you are free and clear.

Microshit did that for all positions even engineering level work and that nearly killed the company. It makes sense to weed out the lower rung of the company that are fresh and can't fit into the workload.
>>
>>106950262
The last I heard, Amazon still does fire-by-PIP for ~10% of the engineering force.
>>
You guys are so neurotic it's actually kind of startling. You get to sit inside a nice comfy office all day with an internet connection, yet think anything less than good is the end of the world. You guys are like estrogenic hysterical women getting upset about nothings. Nothings happening, everything is fine. Repeat, nothing is happening, everything is fine.
>>
>>106950243
Asking with no ill will, do you have autism? Don't you see how funny it is to make a flowchart to illustrate burnout?
>>
>>106950273
That is intentionally kneecapping your company in a bad way. Would be better to just have a minimum threshold but i heard from an ex employee that the threshold is bullshit and always rises. It must be a method to protect themselves from getting PIP'd but it seems to make turnover rate even worse. Once again would be fine for 5-10% of entry level positions to be under that threat for 2 years as a form of probation.

>How are you liking it?
It's so-so. The free time is nice and not having to deal with my asshole, now-former manager is fantastic. Been beating games from my backlog and focusing on my personal projects.

Having to apply to jobs and getting rejected or ghosted is pretty shitty though, which definitely dampens the whole thing. The best I've gotten is an interview + technical interview + coding test, which got me added to a company's talent pool, since they didn't have a fitting project. Maybe it'll become something in the future or not. Who knows.

Thankfully I have >100k€ in (liquid) savings and my monthly expenses are below 2000€, so I don't have to panic even if I have to sit on my ass for a while still.

>Also, just curious, do you browse utwg too, or just twg? Why?
Just /twg/, mostly on momentum and the fact that I don't feel like I've been out of the workforce that long. I was at my previous company for over five years, so three months of unemployment doesn't feel that far removed from tech work.

>Oct 20 9:13 AM PDT We have taken additional mitigation steps to aid the recovery of the underlying internal subsystem responsible for monitoring the health of our network load balancers and are now seeing connectivity and API recovery for AWS services. We have also identified and are applying next steps to mitigate throttling of new EC2 instance launches. We will provide an update by 10:00 AM PDT.

AWS SDE here, it's yet again the EC2 hyperplane team who fucked up (internal team name is "big mac"), and no surprise, the entire team is Indian.
Every year they have to bring themselves in front of the company-wide ops meetings and explain how their incompetence took down an entire AWS region or AZ. I remember a few years back one of their jeet engineers ssh'ed into prod instances (which is not allowed but there is an override process only to be used in emergencies) and deleted all the files on disk because he saw an alert about disk space being full.
I look forward to Wednesday to learn how they fucked up once again

I worked with an indian-born india that told me he hated india and the culture of india because in india there are so many holidays that nothing ever gets done, so yes, this is how they celebrate diwali. He gave as an example that it takes a full calendar year for a known pothole in the street to get filled and that by then obviously a year's worth of new potholes have developed in other places on the same street but then these potholes were not filled because nobody said to fill them this year.

Fat salaries don't feel so great when that fat salary can get cut off out of without warning due to factors that are at best tangentially under your control. Most common salary in spain is around 18K, really low.

>>106952564
Yeah, the only thing that's made in spain and it's objectibly good is the food & drink. It sucks but the last few decades our government prioritized quick GDP growth through inmigration (cheap labour) and tourism. Now we're in a housing crisis, wages are low, boomers have an iron hold on extremely generous pensions and there's no easy way out.

The tech sector provides way higher salaries than other sectors, but they are still lower than in the rest of Europe. I'm being paid 42K but I could earn approximately double that amount in a country like Germany.

At least the weather's nice, lel.

Machine parts, industrial equipment, handtools, electronic components, etc. etc. I am not intentionally buying shit that says "made in spain" but when I buy a replacement part or find the root-cause failed component I always look for the country of origin stamp on it and I see "made in spain" alot. I now look over everything I buy for "made in spain" and if so I spend it back. Bambu rolling papers work good though.
>>
>>106952638
yeah... sad to say "made in USA" is hit or miss depending on the manufacturer. "made in Japan" is now hit or miss too... "made in Mexico" is pretty solid for the price. "Made in Germany" is the only guarunteed going to work every damn day all damn day. I am hearing "Made in Korea" holds up but I haven't really used the stuff. "Made in Tawain" is pretty good for the money as well.

Since you asked, I will respond with a few thoughts

It doesn't reflects anything about me because I don't. I'm also 20 years of adult life more nuanced than the terse posts I made. A post under 500 characters cant accurately describe me. Same for any person with an IQ over 100.

If I wanted an actually doll, I'd consider getting a nice one from Asia as well.

If I wanted something shallow, I would've stayed with one of my ex gfs.

If I treated humans like dolls, I'd pay for an escort in Asia.

Asian women are my type physically. A man with a wig on doesn't flash in my mind when I look at them. Nor does the look of them in 10 years being even worse looking. Asian women age great.

Pic rel is largely what I'm avoiding.

Does anyone else think that technical jobs are kind of incompatible with having an active social life?
I guess good related questions (though most probably in the wrong place. I assume /g/ must be biased towards shut ins) are: do you guys have an active social life? If so, for how long? How were you able to keep it? Do you organize your weekend activities or whatever yourself? Do you let your gf /bf organize it?
If you had it but not anymore, why not? How did you maintain it? Did you feel overwhelmed or tired by it? Do you have any social anxiety?

I work shifts with on call work and OT on occasion, so no way it's compatible.

>had to take an in-office job after months of no responses for remote positions
>cant day drink without worry anymore
its fucking over

damn that sucks, I honestly would rather stay permanently unemployed than go back into an office.

I mean, yeah, but beyond that, like, even if you were a code monkey working 20 hours a week... Do you think there is something inherently anti-social to tech?

>do you guys have an active social life?
No

>If so, for how long?
Since I turned 35

>How were you able to keep it?
By telling people they were legitimately stupid and saying/acting retarded in social settings

Do you organize your weekend activities or whatever yourself?
Unfortunately, no

>Do you let your gf /bf organize it?
Wife does

>If you had it but not anymore, why not?
Because people that aren't my wife and kids are either boring or stupid

>How did you maintain it?
By ignoring how boring or stupid other people were in order to make money or get laid and then later to get a wife. Now that I have that, I don't interact with people needlessly (except for my wife on the weekend sometimes)

>Did you feel overwhelmed or tired by it?
Yes; tired

>Do you have any social anxiety?
A bit, yeah

Im being encouraged to drop.out of my degree. They say im too antisocial to be a school teacher. I have a bach of IT i had before the financial crash in Australia killed the IT sectkr here for years. Should I reskill in IT and, I dunno, get a tech support job?

>Teacher
Anon that is both getting eroded by AI and replaced by AI.
>>
>>106958389
Become a college IT technician. Get free college classes under your belt so you can have a masters degree with some experience before you move on to another job.

no I literally dropped everyone who I got even a bit close to for various reasons

I wake up on the weekend and do whatever pops into my head. a weekend coding, a road trip, a walk, a gooning session, language learning, whatever

no social anxiety, I left people because they were too negative, too dumb, or just autistic

I just find women to chill with one on one for a few months to a year, then split

will probably go to Asia and be a loner there again in December. Currently busy selling all my shit. I only want to own cloths, a computer, and a bed. Minimalism
