There is no conclusive evidence for what the cause is yet. Zen 5 and the 9800X3D in particular have sold very well and most people haven't had any issues. It's possible there was a bad batch of processors and ASRock motherboards have BIOS settings that are worsening the problem, or the fault may entirely be with ASRock, there isn't enough information to make any kind of conclusion yet. For now just avoid ASRock boards to be safe and you will likely be fine like the thousands of other people who have bought and used these CPUs for months with no problem.

I’m finalizing the parts list for my first build and would appreciate some insight from people who know more than I do.

Budget is $3500. I live in the US, not within driving distance of a Microcenter. Primarily for gaming (though I care much more about performance than ray tracing), video editing, and streaming. I’m aiming for 1440p.
A couple key concerns of mine are the PSU and airflow. I want to make sure my PC will never draw more power than mu PSU can supply, but I think I’ve gone overboard with the one I’ve chosen. I’m also much more comfortable with air cooling than liquid cooling - I’ve never used a liquid cooler before and am concerned about maintainence costs, which is why I’ve elected to go with air cooling, but I’m worried about the fans I’ve selected being either poor value or ineffective for the components I’ve selected.
I’d also like to ask for advice on choosing a case. Looks are secondary to airflow for me. I’m currently torn between the Meshify 2 and Torrent, but I’m open to recommendations, especially if they perform better.

Yes you PSU is overkill, you will be fine with a 1kw psu, regarding airflow you have chosen an xl atx case, as long as you set your fans the correct way you will be fine.

Its very easy (well easier than it used to be) to set up nowadays and will yield better temps if you are that concerned about airflow/temps its probably worth to bite that bullet. That said you can stick with your choices, just knowing that an AIO will shave some degrees.

frankly just about any well reviewed xl atx case should do fine, i dont personally have experience with them so i will refrain of giving specific advice on those but i would be my farm you would be fine with any of them

Why the 4080s?
You can get a 5070TI for half the money which will perform just ever slightly lower than your pick or get a 5080 which still would be 200$ cheaper than your 4080s and perform slightly better. With the advantage of both those cards being newer tech.

hey there /pcbg/ im coming with a couple of questions. currently have a 5700, and im looking to upgrade for better gaming performance/all around nice to haves. I've been getting some sound crashing/artifacting issues in what I've been told is a RAM access issue that could also be CPU related. my options seem to be to get a 5800X3D and keep the current AM4 platform or basically start from scratch and go AM5, likely a 7600X or 9600X but possibly a 7700X/9700X.

is Ryzen 7 that much better than 5 to justify the 100-150 price increase on processor alone? I do use my computer for gaming as well as some music production and digital art. pic related is my system.

Is there an actual science behind capping 3fps below the refresh rate for gsync to work well or is it just a random number thrown there? Or is it dependent on the monitor itself being able to handle it?
I have a 360hz monitor and I'll be honest, I don't think I ever play anything that reaches those FPS except old games. I have a 4070 super and except for multiplayer games I don't play such as marvel rivals I don't think I get 200fps on almost anything (well, maybe I can get games like Falcom garbage to play at higher framerates but that's about it). If something, I'll be using 360hz sometimes with RetroArch and that CRT simulation bullshit, which doesn't work well with FPS caps.
However I'm checking that people are just throwing out sometimes -3fps, sometimes -24fps, I don't fucking know what the cap is supposed to be or if it's some placebo bullshit that is already handled automagically but some people are stuck in the past, like hundreds of other tweaks out there. What is optimal and not bullshit here?

A couple threads ago i posted my frankenstein list that i got mainly from buying 2nd hand shit and then a discounted case and psu on amazon.
My current plan right now is to get a new 27" 1440p poverty tier screen during black friday and MAYBE if there is a fantastic deal a new gpu out of 5060TI 16g 5070 5070TI 9060xt 9070xt.
Obviously any of those 5 would be a good upgrade but im hoping i can end up affording either the 70TI or the 70xt.
Then i will sell the 3060TI to recoup a bit of the cost.

The Odyssey G5 G50D is one I'd recommend from personal experience. Very happy with mine for 200 euro. Great fit for my 5070, and would be an even greater fit for a 5070 Ti that can (presumably) actually fill out the whole 180 Hz.

The heavy part was a rising tv stand, holy fuck I wasn't expecting it to weigh so much. It's not even that big but the whole thing is made of thick glass. I also got a steel monitor arm, going to try them both and keep the one I like better. I like the idea of the tv stand it would be easier to move around than the arm which is much more permanent. One Gen5 I was going to put the OS and other programs on. The others are Gen4, honestly the heatsinks were a last minute addition to the build. Saw some posts saying that some motherboard heatsinks aren't very good and figured I would give these a shot. Couldn't hurt right? They were really cheap so if they don't work or I don't like the look I'll just send them back.

The only caveat with that SSD is it uses a G5 M.2 slot, or it'll run at G4 x2.
Not a big deal for most people.

because its the best all-rounder cpu in existence anon. Thats why, they even binned the silicon to the point that the 9950x3d slightly outperforms the 9950x at production-tasks aswell.

Sure, it could be cheaper, but if you actually want one, either pay up, or go buy a 9800x3d. Hell, at this point its barely worth buying either, maybe get a 7800x3d and wait out the 11k series.
