I was reading 40k so we're basically tech priests right?
But in 40k there's no unemployment.
Techpriests don't have to work at walmart to make money. They don't have to abandon technology to make money.

So whats going on in our world?
Why are we being forced away from computers and machines?
>>
>>107037756
>so we're basically tech priests right?
no. they will exist soon though. there will be eventually AIs that require large amounts of specialized knowledge to wrangle, and these people will be the new tech priest class

there already is a Priest class in modern America though that speaks to the God of Money, i mentioned this today in either a /twg/ or /utwg/ thread i forget
>>
>>107037774
but we're supposed to be those people right now.

aren't we supposed to curate the slop AI is making?

yeah that's called "code review in 2025" anon. when you get a job that is exactly what you will be doing

>>107037818
dude, read your own link. this chart is only value for showing that "when a metric becomes a target, it ceases to be a useful metric". we already know GDP and CPI are worthless. real GDP growth in the US in 2025 is 0.1% without datacenter capex
>>

A few anons on the last board seemed to not know.
Yes, and the stock market is not the economy....some anons seem to not know that either.

how do I prepare for this?
>>
>>107037871
>Yes, and the stock market is not the economy....some anons seem to not know that either.
but the problem is that the stock market is real money for everyone who isn't a billionaire.

i could start a factory and contribute to the world, and make 5% a year, and I have to deal with running a fucking factory. or I could dump that capital into the stock market and make 10% a year. guess what I'm choosing?

>>107037876
have you never reviewed a pull request before? have you ever had an actual tech job? I guess you could review random people's PRs in open source repositories you care about
>>
>>107037876
Not that anon but...
You don't, anon is off there.
>>
>>107037894
No, you could not start a factory. Because the big established factories would squash you like a bug that is if the government regulations even let you open your factory.
>>
>>107037741
total/interview/offer is 67/6/1. I'm in the same boat, any applications outside of ClearanceJobs just get ignored or rejected.
>>
>>107037918
sure, nitpick my point about how real returns are lower than stockmarket returns lol its not about the factory
>>
>>107037845
That is how the business cycle works in a laissez-faire free market. But we don't have a laissez-faire in USA. In USA it is corporate socialism; crony capatilism; government granted monopolies; failed-zombie banks propped up by the government propping up failed-zombie megacorporations. It has been this way for a very long time. In 2008 it just became the official policy.
>>
>>107037946
nigger this is a general for unemployed tech workers. so how about you stop doomposting and just get to the point/praxis. do you want me to kill politicians? what do you want me to do with this information? give up?
>>
>>107037876
nobody does code reviews in 2025. Agents do that.
>>
>>107037928
Ok, so... I don't want you to think I am nitpicking so...
Research P/E ratio and P/B ratio.
The issue with the stock market, the fraud market, is that the market price does not reflect the underlying asset which are basically failing companies buying back their own stock with borrowed money.
>>
How do i get a job?
>>
>>107037986

>>
>>107037969
valuations being detached from reality has nothing to do with me making the rational decision to put my money in the stock market to make 10% a year instead of putting my money into something actually real and beneficial to society for 5% a year. again, I can cash out those crazy valuations for real money as long as I'm not a billionaire so it's still all real to me
>>
>>107037958
Um... Here is some praxis for you. Assume nobody is coming to help, nobody, and things will not get better. Shit. The more things change the more they stay the same.
Don't sit around hoping. Don't sit around thinking the government can help you. It's basically just you finding a way to get some daily bread and a place to sleep.
Here's some general advice: Lower your expectations about the future.

I'm honestly tired of applying to internships and not getting anywhere, I think I'll just give up and spend my last year just learning embedded, computer vision, and computer graphics. Maybe I'll go to grad school if I cannot get a new grad job.

I'm at my wit's end.
I've got 3 years of experience in security. I interviewed with a bigger company, went through 3 rounds. The second interview with the level 2 analysts went great, the other ones felt moderately successful. After the third interview, recruiter emails me saying she'll be in touch with the next steps.
That was two weeks ago today.
I emailed her exactly one week ago asking for an update and got nothing in response.
'm going to email again on Thursday to space it out some but am I just fucked here guys or what? Why is there 0 communication even when I directly contact them? I'm still submitting applications everywhere but this feeling of defeat is permeating everything I do.

yeah. that's where all the money you "made" is lost and also all the money you put in is gone too. Let's say you are looking at your trading account right now and it says $200,000. that shit gonn be worth $2000. do the math dickweed.

Serious question for everyone:

How much of this difficulty in getting a job is due to underqualified jeets clogging up recruitment pipelines? It seems like the industry has reverted to referrals etc. as the only way of bypassing this problem.
>>
>>107038521
It has to be a serious issue. You just know these retards are applying for jobs that explicitly say they can't sponsor their H1B visa because they cant fucking read or just don't care about the rules and think they can con the company into doing it anyways because the rules don't apply to fucking jeets in India.

>trade school
>for years

No it doesn't work that way. No you don't need trade school. And yeah it might take a couple years to start making some good money but when you start out--> you don't really know shit enough to earn good money.

Not sure if you are in USA but you just apply to any trade/technician job that says "Apprentice" or "Entry-Level" or "Trainee" in the title and you either learn it right there on the job or attend a training program from 2 weeks to 10 weeks that the company pays for, before you start the job, and bam you are in. Then you work the job and work your way up into the trade. Here are the big turnoffs that stop alot of folks:
1) You have to be able to pass a drug test when you apply
2) You usually need a driver's license and no criminal record involving stealing shit
3) You will at first make less per hour than you could make in some no-skill job

the reason for (3) is because they plan on filtering and firing the idiots before giving you real work to do, and it actually costs them money to train you and stop and teach you shit for the first 6 months, and make sure that you are not an idiot. After 6 months - 1 year you will get the actual entry-level pay.

I'm 25 and graduated with a CS degree last year and kinda gave up on finding tech work for a while but now I'm interviewing for basic helpdesk/IT roles.

I've been dreaming for a while now to enlist in the Air Force/Space Force in a cyber/programming role, do my 4 years, get my benefits and exit. Becoming an officer takes too long (1.5 years) and has a low acceptance rate.

Is this a good path to a $150k+ job after I'm out? IT help desk seems like a dead end trap.
I want to make a fuck ton of money and do cool and interesting shit.

After I get out of the military, I'd do a master's in software engineering at Carnegie Mellon's Silicon Valley campus and try to apply for startup incubators.

I've got an uncle who died in the military though, so basically my entire family is strongly against it. I'm basically a loser living with my parents with no shit going on and don't even feel like a fully developed man, basically the same person I was at 17.

also another interesting anecdote, the recruiter at a staffing agency that's hiring on behalf of a fintech company told me they only put 4 candidates forward and i'm currently their best, which is funny cause the role had hundreds of applicants

Even ignoring the college benefit, medical while you are in, and clearance which is real money btw. The real benefit is job experience you gain. Do 6 years instead of 4 to get the most experience you can. If you like the military then you can go for retirement. I make 140k right now working in IT and i can thank the job experience from the military giving that to me.

I do terrible at leetcode style bullshit because in my seven years of expirience that crap was NOT EVEN ONCE remotely relevant and my dynamic programming 'skills' atrophied like crazy
Now it takes me forever to puzzle through and I can't pass even first rounds of a FAANG style interview even though they love my resume and I get actively recruited by Amazon and Google
Honestly makes me want to kill myself that I'm forced to jump through flaming hoops to entertain these hiring managers instead of showing off my actual skills in a pair programming session or explaining my thought process in a sample code review
When was the last time you were presented with a real-life issue that could be solved using DFS or even worse goddamn 2D-DP? Why the fuck can't I demonstrate my knowledge in a way that has anything to do with actual problems I could encounter in real life?
For godssake can't I just optimize some SQL queries or write out and justify a plan for a new feature or SOMETHING that can actually prove I'm not retarded or bullshitting my resume expirience rather than merely proving I can perfectly recall the least useful aspects of college courses I took almost a decade ago?
FUCK

It's not about paying wages, it's about investment and financing that actually makes these companies run. Apple sits on a shitload of cash, but in order to buyback their own stock they apply for a loan with big banks because they can get billions of freshly printed dollars backed by nothing with like 1% interest or less. Their stock keeps growing far more than that per year so for them it's literally generating free money. In a world with a real currency that would be fucking impossible, or at least cause someone to lose a lot of money.

The reason so many companies and individuals buy stock like that at all is that a lot of people worldwide are left with plenty of this funny money that enters the system with above mentioned loans that keeps losing its value, so they have to invest it somewhere. Chinks and Arabs that sell oil and shit to USA end up with dollars they have to reinvest somewhere where dollars are accepted and just take for granted stocks will rise indefinitely. If that wasn't the case, I wonder which fucking investor would tolerate keeping his money in a SV fag corpo that fails to turn a profit for a decade?

Then let's not forget that the government bank ran by the CIA actually gave considerable backing to kickstart some of these successful unicorns like fagbook because they are using it to datamine the world for intelligence purposes.

I am a 25 year old man.
I am attending a top 20 school in a state with substantial defense contractor presence, as well as a relative shortage of qualified candidates for the work they do on account of the druggie tendencies of the average tech worker here.
I happen to know there are several undergrad research opportunities every year that are nothing but doing FPGA work to help econ and physics dorks do simulations. There are also several "early career" FPGA internship and job opportunities posted by the companies I'm targeting. I also happen to be longtime family friends of cleared employees at Lockheed. None of this adds up to a guarantee, certainly.
You are implying that, in perpetuity, defense contractors only hire people who currently have the highest clearance. That might be true today given political quirkiness. To make that claim even a year in the future, let alone multiple, is a much bolder claim than I've made.
I also didn't insinuate I can cruise through until I get the funny piece of paper. Any tech job is insanely competitive. It will probably be very hard. I will have to pull ridiculously good projects out of my ass on top of the undergrad research thing to even hope for an internship, and it probably won't be FPGA related. My odds are not great. But my odds are not great in any given avenue I could pursue, the "stable easy job" is extinct for all industries. Even being an EE in the power industry would be a big gamble, since the whole impending "power boom" that graybeards keep frothing about is partially contingent on an AI datacenter boom, which is yet to prove itself sustainable.
How about this: I promise I won't come crying to you if I end up dead in a ditch with a fent needle in my arm.
I am getting the sense you gain satisfaction from kicking the young ans earnest in the teeth. That is a sad trait.

I feel like a failure because I don't have a degree. I can do the work and I know my shit decently well, but I know I'm missing out on opportunities because I don't have the piece of paper saying I'm a good goy. Idk what to do anymore. I know the market is shit but my last job only took me 1 month of searching to get and I'm feeling terrible this time around. Like it might be over and I won't get a job in this field again. I don't know what to do. I kinda want to go back to college now for EE or something but that won't fix any of my problems since I have bills to pay and I need a job asap, while a degree MIGHT help my chances of getting something better... in like 4+ years.

But then again I look around and everyone with a degree is just as fucked as I am.

I don't understand why there's unemployment in new york, when average salaries are 110k.

When a lot of people apply for tech jobs in new york why don't companies see this and then lower the wages to increase the jobs?
Like instead of paying 120k for one junior software developer out of Cornell, why don't they just create two jobs of 60k each or one at 40k and one at 80k so more people can get hired and get some experience?
People will say yes to 40k because they'd rather have something than NOTHING.

Why don't companies do this? I don't have an MBA yet so I don't get it. Maybe someone with business knowledge can tell me.

I thought the training was included in the contract time but if not that doesn't really change much for me.

Much prefer Space Force/ Air Force/ Army cyber over Coast Guard. Seems like they'd have more interesting work and I want a "real military" background as dumb as that sounds.

>>107039980
Yeah I posted about this on reddit a ton, wonder how many people have come to the same idea. What are your impressions?

>>107042191
I'd prefer to only do a single contract as there's much more money in the private sector with a CS degree + TS clearance + military experience.

Can I ask what you did in the military? Cyber?

>A system design interview is a way to assess a candidate's ability to build real world systems that interact with various components. An example of a system design interview would be to design a URL shortener, and depending on a candidate's experience they may be asked to incrementally update their design to be scalable, highly available and secure.

They're jobs but they're public sector or pseudo public where nothing happens and you don't learn anything. People go home at 3 pm or earlier. And old ladies gossip all day.

What do you put on your cv to get IT help desk jobs as a new grad?
>>
>>107049581
Graduated 2024 so not sure I'm a new grad. I've been working as a substitute teacher for a local school district for 6+ months and just lied about the role and made it seem tech related. Instantly started getting interviews after doing that. Just lie.

Big lesson I learned is your bullet points should be only 1 line long and very simple and readable for nontech people while still namedropping relevant technologies.

I worked with computer networks in the airforce. Other branches have different names for it but my career field was called cyber transport at the time. It's prefered that you take a IT job in the military that does the most work since you end up learning the most. If i went with Server Admin or Radio Frequency i would have ended up being in the most boring job possible for IT careers.

I agree server admin seems boring as shit, basically glorified help desk. My dream job is 1D7X4P which is the programming shred or 1B4 (Cyber Warfare Operations). There's also a 1B4 equivalent for Space Force I'll put on my list that's called 5C.

Outside of career related stuff, would you say enlisting was a good opportunity for growth as a person? Was it essentially like an office job once you're past BMT?

>good opportunity for growth as a person
From my experience is that if you join the military it elevates your personality in so that if you are a good hard working person you hone in that skill to be better at it. If you are a shit bag then you learn how to be a bigger shit bag. If you are a good manager then once you make the rank you become a better manager.

Experience wise you learn alot more outside of your career to include management skills so you end up becoming a much more capable worker than what you normally see in the civilian world. You can emulate this as a civilian by learning alot of subjects, books, free training or bootcamps, college ect. But most people just focus on the one job that they have and specialize. That variety of experience is why a prior soldier would get picked up over a civilian not to mention just showing up on time is a virtue that the military harps about with consequences.

Cyber Warfare Operations is hard pick up the book for CEH, Sec+, Cloud+, Server+ and Network+. Also A+/Tech+ if you are lacking skills. You really need Sec+ but they give you that in the military btw. Pre learn all of those books and you will be fine for that crazy hard career field.

Military is like an office job if you include PT for 1 hour before work and another hour and 30 mins after work. You are just more busy throughout the day compared to most civilian jobs with random shit and the occasional training opportunity every 3 months that the bosses give out to the smart kids. I probably spent 6 months worth of time doing extra training during my 4 years.
