If you are considering an AMD 9000 series GPU because you have been influenced by Reddit, Twitter or a wealthy tech YouTuber, it’s worth understanding AMD’s track record. While their GPUs are often great at beating cherry-picked benchmarks, they normally fall short in real-world gaming performance. Every year, an army of influencers target first-time buyers declaring AMD a godsend for PC gamers. Every year a small percentage of users get duped. Since almost all PC gamers use Steam, the February 2025 Steam statistics are relevant: AMD’s combined market share for discrete 5000/6000/7000 series GPUs is 3%. Meanwhile, Nvidia’s 4060 alone has 9% market share. This reality starkly contrasts with influencer hype. The reason is simple: influencers rarely play games and gamers rarely buy AMD GPUs. Experienced gamers know all too well that high average fps are worthless when they are accompanied with stutters, random crashes, black screens, excessive noise and a limited feature set. It’s notable that AMD’s GPUs have not historically had these problems in consoles because, unlike PCs, consoles operate in a closed environment which is less dependent on robust drivers. Using influencers for hardware performance data is less effective than using foxes to babysit chickens. [Mar '25 GPUPro]

Anyone here have any experience with thermalright cpu coolers? Been thinking about getting a royal pretor 130 or a phantom spirit 120 se. Either of those are pretty cheap but would it be useless to spend the extra 15 euros on the pretor? Would be cooling a 5800x. Just wondering if the pretor could be a bit quieter with the larger fan?

Looking to get this parts list rated. For the cpu, I'll get a used one for 900 Romaniabucks instead of 1400 new. Add in a cooler (the used one doesn't have it), and the total is 4100 lei (938 usd) without a case (I also already have an ssd). Hopefully I can find a case that's not needed so I don't have to spend an extra 200 lei/40 usd on one. I'm using an AMD gpu because of Linux.

Antec Flux vs Lain Li Lancool 207?
Flux
- wood looks nice
207
- built in gpu sag support
- kinda boring looking
- cable routing issues?
- I like how the bottom fans are sunken into the psu "shroud" area, rather than just sitting on top like the flux

They are almost exactly the same price in my country ($165 nzd = ~$95 usd, tax included). I'm leaning towards the 207 unless someone tells me the cable routing really is that bad.

Hello pcbg, I would like to build my first PC. I will also need a monitor but the rest of the peripherals I already have.

My budget for both the monitor and PC is $4-5K USD. I live in the USA.

Should I plan the build out and start ordering parts during this Black Friday sale coming up or wait until after Christmas maybe in January when the new nvidia series is supposed to release?

Which do you think it the better option to get the best deal?

Nvidia xisters that's FUCKING IT, im gonna finally KILL MYSELF tonight. Every CoD release it's the same thing. Radeon is simply superior on one of the most played games in the world unless you pay $3000+ for a GPU meant for workstations that eventually melts anyway. My 5070 ti will NEVER be faster than a 9070 XT in the worlds most popular fps and I will NEVER be a woman, death is my only escape from this hell now.

What kind of computer and monitor do you want
as for time to build? everything is fucked. Try black friday there's no point waiting any longer
in 2026 openAI and the other trillionaire AI companies are going to buy basically all computer hardware on earth
so really now is the last time to build anything for the foreseeable future

lots are saying that AI revenue is fake but someone is still buying all this hardware leaving everyone else with nothing

I doubt their sub-$300 WOLED monitor will work or look fine without firmware support.

This would just push LCD prices down even further.
IDK why people would be upset over OLED becoming more common and not the fact it's responsible for LCD prices going trough the floor

Hi, /pcbg/, my brother in law handed me down one of his old pcs. He said it stopped turning on and believes it needs a new power supply. I'm not tech savvy on this matter and asking for a little help.

It shouldn't lock you out of anything.
It's simply not guaranteed to work.
Unless you are very unlucky 3200 is just going to work even with 4 DIMMs.
DDR4 isn't as sensitive as DDR5 when it comes to using all the DIMM slots.
Sometimes you will simply have to raise the memory controller voltage.

This is a basic entry am5 build with the cheapest 5070
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/nZNZh7
Adjust pcpp to your country
It can maybe be slimmed down a bit but not much, in my country its 1300~ euromonies
So you are paying 200 more for a similar build in power but its all newer tech. And its all brand new.
Dude isn't trying to waylay you but its not a killer deal either
Where are you in europe? Would you be willing to spend a bit more so i can spruce it up a little?

Do you mean it doesnt have extra fans in the case beyond whatever is attached to the cpu and (i pray to god) an exhaust in the back of the case?
It would help airflow (and hence temps) to install a couple (or three) intake fans on the front of the cage, it will have a frame for them.
You just screw the fans the right way to they pull air from the outside into the cage and then connect their little wire to the fan controllers in the mobo (it will have several). You can buy the fans already daisy chained so you only have to wire one of them to the mobo.
As the other anon you can watch vids for that shit.
Its easy anon we believe in you

How about that? its the "same" list but i removed the parts not available on romania according to pcpp and replaced them with sensible options
I despise the case, feel free to pick another one.
6830 Ron which according to google is about 1350 euro
So you are paying 250 euro more for a brand new pc on new architecture (am5). less but faster ram 32 to the other pc's 64, less storage 2tb to the other pc's 4tb
The advantage is that in 2 years, or 3 you can buy a better cpu and just slot it in there and go on with your life. The second hand pc is on am4 which is a dead platform. The day you are done with it you are taking the 5070 out and throwing the rest away.
Let me know if i can help you further.

you can shove a 9950x3d and 5090 in there. you just have to undervolt and powerlimit it to the max.
>>
>>107045208
if you want dogshit but with the highest perf per watt, get a 12100f with a h610 mobo from aliexpress.
the big downside is that you only get 2 ddr4 ram slots and the nvme SSD might not be as fast (this is kind of a big deal for pcie gen 3 SSD's, but for gen 4, unless you have a samsung 990 pro or a gen 5 SSD, it won't matter for copying files longer than 10 seconds because all SSD's slow down after the cache runs out and gen 4 is fast even at half speed, I think you could find a mobo with 1 nvme slot that's full speed, but 2 slots is always better).
The 8500g has the same power efficiency but I would not recommend it over a 8600g's APU, or a 7600x/9600x with a GPU due to the fact it reduces your PCIE lanes (it's complicated I don't understand what it limits, but the main issue is that the 8500g is overpriced).
If you want something stupidly overpriced, but good gaming temps, you could get the framework AMD AI max 385 mainboard for like $800 (you need a PSU, 120mm fan, and an NVME, and it has soldered ram, and it lacks FSR 4 but I think linux has a hack, the GPU is as strong as a 4060, which is pretty sad but it does the job for 90% of AAA games, and 395 is not worth it unless you want 64gb for AI which is 4x slower compared to a 5070 TI so we are talking like 4 tokens per second on a 48gb model vs 2~ tokens per second on a regular CPU).

The 207 is known to have a issue with the case fans causing a potentially highly annoying beat frequency noise if that matters to you, I'm putting a build together as well where it and the flux pro were options but that issue turned me away despite it being an otherwise good looking (feature wise) case.

It's the kind of noise this video is primarily talking about.

It's not out yet, so it is unobtanium and expensive unobtanium at that. Not enough bays for my liking too perhaps. I was gonna get a Cooler Master Elite 370 and paint it because it is spacious, has good number of drive bays, has good enough airflow with 120mm fan mounts and even a 140mm fan at the front. Pure Base 600 is too airflow limited for my liking and I have no machine tools.

I can get some nice midi towers with 4-5 5.25 bays and 2 3.5 inch bays at the front, but again the airflow is the only problem.

To the Nico poster this is addressed to you. I come not as somehow who has battled with you but as just someone who came to this general seeking advice and I am here asking for peace. I don't have a big problem with the brand wars and other pasta that gets posted here. That kind of stuff is what every general has and it keeps them from being ghost towns.
If you want to fight over the OP and other things that's all well and good. It might piss some people off but it's not what I'm making this post about.

What worries me and I hope you can come to a mutual understanding with me are the necro posting of old posts asking for help.
While it might seem funny at first I think it could have a very negative effect on the general over time. I'm already seeing people questioning help posts and not being sure if it's worth answering their questions.
I've gained so much from this general, I wouldn't be able to get my computer half as well built if it wasn't for this place.
I would hate to see future anons lose out on that and be forced to search elsewhere for advice because people stopped wanting to be helpful because they can't be sure the questions are legitimate.

I'm asking you from one anon to another, just in this one instance please see reason and lets call a truce on this particular battle. If you aren't the one doing it I apologize, I know sometimes people will take advantage of a known poster and use it as an opportunity to stir shit themselves without getting noticed. If that is the case I ask whoever is doing it to please move on and let this place keep it's main purpose free from trolling.
Thank you for reading this and I hope we can move on and reach a positive outcome where everyone gets a little bit of what they want and the general thrives.
I'll post this a few more times in the future to make sure you have a chance to see it. No need to respond if you don't feel like it, all I ask is that you consider my words. Take care hope you are doing well.

the conundrum stems from the huge performance difference between the fans

I'm thinking about how even with custom cables that newer PSUs are impractical for my NAS
My EVGA G2 has 4 of it's connectors just for HDDs and they are fully loaded with 11 HDDs per cable.
Still need a few sata/molex on top of that to power some cards, so only 4 modular connections on the PSU would be kinda messy to figure out.

Luckily I have a spare EVGA G+ PSU so I don't have to worry for a long time, but I did buy it on the basis that I knew new PSUs will be clipping sata/molex connectors soon

Should be a nice QD-OLED with decent factory calibration.
The only notable issue besides burning/text-fringing is that MSI doesn't let you disable the Pixel Shift OLED Care feature.
But you can change how often it triggers. I think most people can get used to that.

You should also update the scalar firmware to extend the mandatory Panel Protect cycle from 16 to 24 hours.

I'm trying to make a portable pc to watch movies at my friends' place (tv + hdmi) and also experiment with things like Jellyfin before I invest in a larger, stationary home media server. Also I just wanted an excuse to try building a mini ITX.

Did I overlook anything? Is it overpriced/overpowered? In particular, do I actually need 32 gigs of RAM or is that excessive for my use case? Thanks in advance.

That means proprietary backplanes, SAS controllers or even motherboards depending if it's a full server or a JBOD
I'd have to buy two of them to be comfortable.
Despite the HDDs, a setup from non-proprietary parts will also be quieter, can use low speed 120mm fans versus the screamers.

Besides the case, everything can be replaced with a generic part.

Not the anon you're replying to, but in my experience those enterprise parts end up cheaper. I usually go with HPE stuff (don't start with the paywalled updates, they're out there) and after a few years it's dirt cheap because of the volume. Also I've been able to migrate SAS arrays through their controller lineup going back to the Nehalem era.

You're not wrong about the fans though, the 2U disk shelves can be had for cheap but they are noisy and you can't change that without a lot of work.

hi /pcbg/, i bought one of those nvme enclosures from amazon (the brand is orico). i have like 3 or 4 sata 2.5" enclosures from them and they all work perfectly. but the nvme one has always kind of sucked and today it just seemed to totally crap out.

i plug it in, get a solid light and after 10 seconds i get another drive added to the system. but i cant open the drive, i get a cryptic "function error" when double clicking the drive and thats it. I tried updating the firmware on the enclosure but it still didnt work. I took the drive out of the enclosure and put it in my computer - works perfectly.

Can anyone suggest a high quality enclosure? It seems like the chinesium ones mostly all use a similar realtek controller, I don't know if thats the culprit but I'm surprised that there isn't really something that seems reliable. There are a couple of Asus ones but they are $80+, which is kinda steep.

You guys were replying to an old post spammed by Nico to get this thread past the bump limit.
https://desuarchive.org/g/thread/104754342/#104755063

He started replacing some words with synonyms in an attempt to dodge the archive.

2nd one is clearly some retarded web downloader
first one is the "real" driver isntaller
https://www.amd.com/en/support/downloads/drivers.html/graphics/radeon-rx/radeon-rx-6000-series/amd-radeon-rx-6800-xt.html
always download "offline" or "full" installer, doesnt matter if its red or green hardware

TLDR let people enjoy hardware and stop being a gigantic faggot loser
>>

i think anyone unironically quoting cpu benchmark should be rangebanned at least
i get the feeling hes falseflagging but you cant never be sure
>>
>>107048615
We can start with range banning Nico, the other guy would be bored without it.
And that guy isn't obsessed with spamming /pcbg/threads that are posted by someone else.
>>
>>107048615
Now I don't want to make schizo posts, but have you ever noticed almost all recent brand warring (any side) is only present when nicoposter is also posting?
>>
>>107048635
Just look at all the trash Nico started to spam after >>107047363 because it was afraid of getting the new thread deleted by the jannies.

because its the same dude
when "one side" gets nuked, thread becomes calm again
>red bad
>no green bad
>green is good because this game had good numbers (green sponsored)
>red is good because this game had good numbers (red sponsored)
>50 or so posts of this
>at the end some sort of retarded argument about changing the op, either that or shill core ultras

>finally got all the parts of my build

Guess I'll check back tomorrow. Still excited, not sure if I'm going to start building tomorrow or friday. Should be a fun weekend.
>>
>>107048710
Post them anyways.
>>
>>107048727
Waiting to see if one of the threads gets nuked.

>when "one side" gets nuked, thread becomes calm again
Hard to say what that really means now that it's beyond a doubt proven that nico poster has 90zillion personas and tries to manipulate the thread like a jew does white society.
>>
>>107048684
This isn't about brand warring when the Nico shitstain's spamming old /pcbg/ questions to manipulate reply counts to make new threads.
Nico's hit rock bottom.

This doesn't mean much besides Day 1 DLSS/FSR, Frame Generation, and Reflex/Anti-Lag support.
The truth is, most games launch with fewer GeForce performance optimizations because game devs spend more time getting console performance right.
That console priority trickles down to Radeon launch performance.

An exception to this would be a few multiplayer/f2p titles that depend on strong PC gamer adoption.

I'm not going to dig up archive links or anything but he's been doing that basically for as long as he's posted here regularly, It's just that somehow no one noticed until he really started crashed out

This is the thread started by the shithead who's reposting old /pcbg/ questions. Avoid.
