I've got this 2TB NVME SSD in this new build that I'm working on (separate from the OS SSD)
Which would be a better use for it? Loading AI models in for Stable Diffusion (which I wanted 2TB for)
Or as a SSD steam drive? (Which I wanted a 4TB for but was planning on doing a 4TB sata SSD)
I've already bought the 2TB M2 NVME, but was wondering if I should just ditch it for Stable Diffusion for steam?
Because in my head, most games don't really need read and write once they're loaded in.
Or should I just use the 2TB for something else? Like an Adobe scratch disk?
>>
>>107070480
Like this may sound confusing, let me explain how the rig is built up

1 TB M2 NVME MLC for OS (bought)
4 TB SATA TLC for Steam (not bought)
8 TB SATA HDD for general data (bought)
8 TB SATA HDD for seeding torrents (bought)

Then at the last second I decided to slap on

2 TB M2 NVME MLC for Stable Diffusion (bought)

But after doing some tests, I noticed that once the model loads on stable diffusion, not much drive activity happens at all. But I haven't actually done any Comfy UI yet with any of those like model switching half way methods and stuff. I'm mostly just asking is it still worth using the M2 NVME for LLM switching when I do get into learning Comfy UI?

I already have the 2TB NVME, so I'm just wonder if I should just buy a 2TB SATA SSD for AI and actually use the 2TB NVME for something else? Because I'd be a shame to have all this read and write speed for nothing.

It’s not 2FA because it’s not asking me to produce a code or login to the email, only to enter the email address. This is distinct to a 2fa requirement that you setup where you’d be asked for a code every login

It only asked me for the email because I flagged myself by visiting the site with a VPN. So it’s not actually. 2FA it’s a trust level challenge

My question is, is there a chance it decays over time
>>
>>107070569
>It’s not 2FA because it’s not asking me to produce a code or login to the email
So it's exactly what I said and you're locked out because you didn't put TOTP on your account.
Getting an email to confirm your account is fucking 2FA btw, so yes you're 2FA locked because your account was low trust and you used a burner email. You lost the account, bad luck. Next time, put TOTP on your next account immediately and store all the credentials in a manager
>is there a chance it decays over time
Literally no one can possibly know that with any certainty unless they work at xitter and lurk here. Pozzed social media sites have arbitrary black box nonsense that changes all the time. Is it possible? Perhaps, but I would cut your losses and treat it as a lesson learned.

For anyone else this has already been replied to, don't waste your time 107067690

Thanks? Really bizarre that you’re getting frustrated tho. I’m just replying to you. It’s an honest question.

I’m not getting an email, it’s only asking to enter the email address. You keep ignoring / conflating this part because you’re falling over yourself to tell me im fucked. Which I very well might be, and now you’re telling people to ignore me and not clarify a possible decay window. Why? I legit don’t understand why you’re so frustrated after one reply literally 8 hours later. I went to bed and you’re this angry and still here. It’s insane.

Why don't they make a railway system
similar to how elevators work?
Say tickets are one way with a set specific destination. Then:
1a. when you enter a train car, it sets your destination station as a stop
1b. if there is a passenger waiting at a station, it is set as a stop or if the car was idle it will go to that station
2. otherwise that station will be skipped
3. when the last passenger gets off a stop, the car will wait there
4. go back to step 1a/1b
At worst it will stop at every station in the longest duration from A to B, like current systems. At best the car will transport a passenger from A to B in the shortest possible time

There is no need to have a meltdown over a lost account, obviously you have never heard of time zones or keeping a tab open to check on a thread occasionally. The login process is asking you for an email to send an OTP to, which in effect, is 2FA.
So while you are not currently receiving an email, that is what would happen if you could recall and access the temp email you used to create that account. How would feel if you didn't have breakfast?

I think you're way overthinking this, the bottom line is yes run that stuff on an NVMe. Especially if you're model switching, have multi-stage workflows and are loading large models a lot. The time saving over time would stack up to hours.
As far as how you want to organize the rest of your data, that's pretty much up to you. Just please avoid buying SATA SSDs in the year 2025 unless they're an outrageously good deal.

I downloaded Loud House season 1 and for all episodes the subtitles show up too early. The problem I have is that the subtitles are hardcoded into the .mkv so I unless I manually change it every time, for every episode, it won't be synced. Unless you're fixing computers or ripping and encoding movies for torrent sites, it's not very valuable to normal people, and even if you do, it's not very relatable. If you have an interest in computers, mess around a bit. It's scary even if you know what you're doing, but it's satisfying when you achieve whatever goal you set for yourself. I presume you're using windows? Which version? What hardware do you have? Some people can't even tell me that. Do you know how to update your bios and drivers? Have you played around with some different operating systems? That's a good rabbit hole that could keep you busy for week or two. Do you know what resolution your monitor is? Do you have a disc drive? Maybe copy some movies and learn about codecs. Dick around with makemkv and ffmpeg.

People very rarely bother to complain for TV series. By the time they get around to watching s4e22 they probably forgot where they even downloaded the show.

If it fails to parse in software mode ffmpeg, 99.99% it's a video file problem.
>>
>>107063852
If they're actually hardcoded and you can't turn them off, then no
But it sounds like they're not and they're just in the .mkv container. You can separate them with something like mkvtoolnix, and then even add a new sub file and make a new mkv. Finding sub files shouldn't be too hard.
The other alternative is depending on how early they are, you could cut some of the intros from all the eps.

I'm not sure if there's a batch way to shift subtitles so they're delayed, maybe ask chatgpt

Recommended voice recognition software?
Must be functional entirely offline, available for windows, and allow transcribing directly from microphone (other things optional).
I'd prefer if it has an option for CPU only, and not be too heavy on RAM (<1GB), but I can forego those if it's worth it.
I know people were excited about the Whisper models, but I have no idea what frontend to use or even if it's recommended anymore.

If just ONE pending sector it is probably fine
If you have not read alot of data from the drive this not a good sign.
It might move to uncorrectable or something but as long as nothing else happens you are fine.
If more are added, it's either old data succumbing to time (because you never scrubbed data) or a bad block.
You won't know till the block has been read/written to a few times likely.

how do i torrent stuff safely
is it as simple as subscribing to a vpn service or do i have to be careful about something else
>>
>>107075261
VPNs protect you from your isp spying on you and bitching at you to stop pirating stuff. Depending on where you live that might not even be an issue, it isn't for me. As far as safety goes it's just a matter of what you download, there's no hard rule for it.
>>
>>107075261
what exactly do you fear? I think a lot about torrenting on VPN is because some providers like Comcast will hit you with a DMCA email if they detect torrent traffic, or throttle the connection otherwise. At least that used to be a thing, i torrented something recently without a VPN while using comcast for internet and nothing happened.

If you don't think you'll torrent more than 10gb of content per month, make a windscribe account. Its really fast and free. Other free options are softether vpn with public relay servers. Idk about non-free options, im jewish.

>>
>>107075261
get a vpn provider. in the vpn app, make sure it restricts your torrenting program to only ever go through the vpn.
then in your torrent program, you can tell it which network to use and it should use your VPN's "network". So in two ways you are protected from it every trying to torrent outside of your VPN. That's it.
I used to torrent a lot of stuff without a VPN but I think AMC is one of the few companies that was always sending DMCA or w/e requests to my ISP and I didn't want to lose my internet over it.
>>
>>107075383
if you're in the 14 eyes, you're gonna need a vpn
a vpn that can port forward is best but it's not required, just remember to set it up in the client itself and test it with the torrent ip leak ipleak.net to make sure it's working

Is it worth upgrading from a 4050 laptop to a 4070 or should I just wait and get a 50 series one?
>>
>>107074535
For your first question, it depends if you are split-tunneling or not. If you are, only traffic destined for IPs inside your network is traversing the VPN and going into your network. Traffic destined for the Internet is routed directly without touching your VPN. If you’re not split-tunneling, all traffic traverses the VPN, hits your home router, and then is routed thru its default gateway. It’s all about what your device’s default route points to as the next hop.

As far as security, you generally do need to have whatever port wireguard, etc needs open inbound on your FW. Wireguard isn’t going to touch any traffic at all that isn’t properly encrypted and certificated. They’d have to be scanning for a WG handshake in particular to see any opening in a scan. If you’re autistic, you could also set up something like port knocking so it appears closed no matter what without the correct knock.

also I'm assuming by 4070 you mean the laptop variant, not a dedicated gpu, otherwise you'll need a lot more parts

my opinion: don't buy the 4070 or 50 series (if we're talking laptop version). it's going to be such a minor upgrade that it won't matter. not only that but generational leaps are so small that it's better to wait multiple generations, so maybe start thinking about the 60 or 70 series

my opinion: I highly doubt the first video is real. it's a modern game (so running like shit is a guarantee) and it's only a small upgrade since laptop gpu's in general are less advanced than dedicated gpu's. if you say 4050 on low gets 40-60 fps, then I don't believe a 4070 on ultra will get 70 fps. I imagine a 4070 on low/medium would get a solid baseline 70 fps, like the second video shows, which I think is more trustworthy

I plan on running a live distro, check each flashdrive and formatting them. I'm just looking for some general tips on what to look for, what distro to use, etc... never done this before.

My W10 PC has started entering this "unresponsive" state where the only way to fix it is to cut the power to it. Here are the symptoms:

>OS doesn't directly show anything as unresponsive like you'd expect, everything looks normal
>Can't close any windows, pressing X just minimizes the program, the icon never leaves the taskbar
>Can't start any programs
>Task Manager doesn't update
>Start Menu opens and and closes but thats it
>Shutdown and Restart does not work but attempts to by entering the shutdown/restart screen but never actually does it
>Nothing on Ctrl-Alt-Del menu works
>If music is playing, it stops
>If a video is playing the video stops but the audio continues
>Was playing Old School Runescape recently when it did it, certain in-game sounds stopped working but I remained connected to the server and could see other players still moving around and I could still control my own character, nothing else on my PC would respond though.

This is some kind of memory problem isn't it? Like it seems nothing can be added or removed from memory and only things currently in memory can be accessed. I need to run memtest but I was just wondering if anyone else had any idea.

Logically it should be direct die with PTM42069 (or liquid metal if you want to ruin everything when you accidentally spray it all over the place). The AM5 IHS had to be thicker to allow for compatibility with AM4, which I'm told negatively affected cooling. How much, I haven't researched.

Why do some games tie the framerate of the renderer to the physics simulation? As in why do some developers like Valve have it so that the Havok physics engine can run at its own fixed tickrate and the game can render at an arbitrary framerate whereas a developer such as Bethesda have it so that the physics are tied to the framerate and going over a set framerate causes the physics to bug out. Decently, like 5C cooler or more, if it had less Z thickness. However, you can make substantial thermal gains by just tuning the power profile, ultimately the default power profiles are retarded and exist purely to eke out marketing numbers on graphs.

My other lanes are used up by USB cards with dedicated controllers for 8 MyBooks. So with no more space left for another PCI-E M2 card, I'm just doing sata SSD for Steam. I figure it's good enough.

probably depends on the country, but I'm still making some google accounts without phone number, protonmail is even easier
>>
Over the years I have fallen into using my web browser as a launcher for huge services (social media, yt, streaming services, 4chan). It seems like the way things are going and with google sabotaging the discoverability of websites on the open web that it's time to go back to bookmarking and visiting sites directly. Back in the day there used to be sites that served as indexes to other sites with huge lists of links for any given topic. Is that still a thing in 2025? How can I still use the web effectively while moving away from the matrix of algorithm driven "services?"
>>
>>107081658
Proton Mail is worthless, you need a phone number to receive e-mails they detect to be for example "sign up mails". They hide this fact until you actually need to use the account you got.
For many years Proton Mail used to be good but these days they are completely unreliable.

GMail is worthless, they will randomly block you if you log in from a "suspicious IP" or require phone verification even if you never gave them a phone number.

xmail.net was good but have closed registrations and are shutting down next year.
Big services like Hotmail/AOL/mail.com/Yahoo is worthless (needs phone number).
I wouldn't be asking anon for help if it was that simple.

Trying to figure out if there is a way to reset/restart a USB connected camera setup in several conference rooms without always having to physically unplug it.

The computers connected to the cameras have every setting I can find set to allow camera permission to practically everything, the selective USB settings are disabled, the camera is on a separately powered extension cable, even. But there is seemingly no solution other than physically unplugging and reattaching the USB on a daily basis.

Is there really no better way to get these dumb cameras to work? If I don't unplug them, they will literally show up with that generic no camera available image on Windows 11 (when opening the default camera app). This is all coming from a fresh restart, so nothing else should be hogging the camera.

i was taking an online quiz and here is the question with possible answers. what the fuck is the answer?

When would a “merge conflict” arise?

Select only one

- When changes are made to the same line of the same file on different branches of a repository.

- When two different files are saved to the same repository with incompatible programming languages.

- When there is an error in a line of code that will cause additional errors when merged with the rest of the application.

- When two contributors push the exact same file with the exact same code at the exact same time.

i got it wrong and it didnt even tell me what the correct answer is supposed to be- in my mind there is no correct answer here but i chose the last option because i feel like whoever pushed last could cause a merge conflict i guess if they try to then merge it? im so fucking confused

Some AMD mobos set soc voltage too high. This happens on Asus, ASRock, Gigabyte, etc.
It can happen to any AMD CPU but X3D is more affected because they have tighter voltage tolerances due to the extra cache.
BIOS updates have been trying to reduce the soc and other misc voltages by default but some still give really high results depending on what RAM you pair it with it's often seen with kits that need high SOC voltage to begin with like 1:1 ratio mode (6000cl30).

Someone else can probably speak to this, but I'm not sure Windows uses the system RAM as part of the buffer for a network drive transfer. So you could still be limited by the drive's internal cache. And that drive might not have it's own DRAM anyway. It also depends if it's TLC or QLC in some cases. Here's a SATA sequential transfer chart for comparison since you might not be using M.2. But it still could be some kind of network issue as well.

I actually have some variations of that. They match the attached image where you could down the times the device is supposed to power off. The thing is, it just doesn't seem to fix the issue though. Perhaps those don't work well by themselves, but it's been really hard to know for certain.

At least one, maybe two, of the conference rooms I've set up have no issue with the camera seemingly falling asleep, so that only adds to my confusion, as they are all set up the same: computer>USB 3.0 extension>second USB 3.0 extension (with a power supply) >USB cable that comes with the camera>camera.

The cables together equate to near 50~ feet in length, and I'm pretty sure that is part of the issue but, as you might expect, my work claims budget tightness to be the cause of not being able to make changes, and this I make due with what I have. Is there some way to have one program read/write a file and give some other program read-only access while linking the file without it actually being there? I'm on Windows 7.
I have file A in folder A that is modified often by program A. I have file B in folder B that is modified occasionally by program B. File B is a clone of file A, and I have to keep reverting it to a previous state, or else program B will do weird shit I don't want it doing. What I'm wanting to know is if I could have program B read file A as if it were in folder B, without modifying it or reading anything else in folder A. Is this possible?

Obviously I have my own biases so take these with a grain of salt,. On the "gaming" side of laptops, whatever your opinion on gaming laptops may be, Lenovo's Legion lineup is one of the good ones with decent build quality across the board and their stuff usually goes on heavy sales after a while. Asus in their Zephyrus lineup is also decent but also more expensive. Stay away from anything Dell. HP or Acer. Oh, and there's Framework too if you want to spend a fortune for muh repairability.

Nothing. Modern google just ignores your attempts at constructing a search query with required and excluded terms to instead feed you what DAS ALORITM says the typical person would be looking for.

https://glitchwave.com/charts/top/game/all-time/g:rail%2dshooter,%2dlight%2dgun%2dshooter/
https://backloggd.com/search/lists/rail%20shooter/
These should help you on your search. The lists on backloggd might contain light gun shooters though.
The trick is knowing how to use google to get to a useful website, then search within that website rather than trying to do a granular search on google.

I've recently found myself in Germany, and I'm using an old ass android phone for navigation (Android 9, downright decrepit), no Idea if this matters.
My problem is: The phone is obviously set to English, but good lord, the AI sat-nav voice seems to also be set to English and STRUGGLES with the German names of streets and such, to the point that quite often it is unintelligible when it tells me what street to look out for. Is there any way I can set the navigational voice to for places to German, without having to set the full app to German? Multiple times I found myself stopping and double checking what the fuck the phone just said. Which isn't exactly Ideal. And obviously I don't want to have to keep looking at it while I'm in traffic, because that's not safe either.

>What makes you expect it's TPM?
TPM is just plainly problematic on AM4, regardless of brand. But apparently it's especially problematic on some MSI boards. The audio issue was a dead give away that it's TPM, you probably have USB issues as well. I literally just discovered the MSI-specific problems the other day when I chanced upon discussion about it, but otherwise I've never personally had problems with two AM4 MSI boards because I'm schizo and disable TPM.
You should probably do a couple of Memtest86 passes on your RAM and do a two pass HCI Memtest, split like 85% of your total RAM capacity (after OS usage is considered) over your CPU threads per worker (window of HCI).

>>107089190
>most of the time its 50 idle on startup so idk whats wrong
Nothing is wrong, you probably haven't done ANY power optimization and I don't know what cooler you're using so I can't tell if that's an expected temp. Like I mentioned before, Zen 4 Ryzen 9's biggest and easiest thermal improvement comes from voltage caps not from delidding. While the 9800X3D isn't a crazy hot chip, the extra cache adds die density meaning it's warmer even with the flipped design.

Alright that's a good start, that's certainly more than adequate for cooling.

>>
>>107089764
Not sure about PS5 controllers specifically but I know that PS3/4 have non-standard third-party interfacing (drivers/software) with Windows. Chances are it's more of a system wide thing rather than application specific, so it might have overlap with more generic volume peaks or metadata you experienced with that film. I'm guessing it was locally played?

I stay away from Acer, MSI, and Asus laptops.
All three due to abysmal build quality, but Acer and Asus also due to broken BIOS implementations.
On Acer Aspire, fans would not spin at all unless a special driver was installed, so the laptop would cook itself while you browsed the BIOS settings or during OS installation.
Asus because of https://github.com/Zephkek/Asus-ROG-Aml-Deep-Dive and countless other similar failures.

USB 3.0 works best at 3 meters of continuous length, having that much length plus multiple links in the connection is diabolical. >>
>>107091335
you can't use -i argument in gui. most args are overriden by the gui.
if you want to keep using gui, then you can just search through the folder where the files you wanted to archive *.txt and *.html files in, select all necessary files types and then right click add to archive
if you MUST use args, then do it in cmd or terminal
>>
>>107091577
oh man, why even have a parameters field if you can't use all the parameters. hard to believe 7zip is this shit when it's so widely used.
(naturally i have hundreds of folders/subfolders and thousands of files mixed together, if it was feasible to just click a couple of them manually i would have done that.)
it's just such a basic thing, should be added to the gui even without parameters. should also be able to restrict file size, like below 1 MiB for example. two very basic things that a lot of people surely would want, it's strange enough there's not a button in the GUI but i thought for sure it would at least be possible with the parameters.

I have a bunch of unused Panasonic AA Zinc Chloride batteries. Expiry 2027. However I looked at them and they all have this rusty-looking ring around the bottom. Is it leaking/corrosion? Or is it just the colour of the materials of the seal?
I have a few Kodaks too, also exp 2027. They don't have this, but they seem to be constructed differently.

It seems a shame to throw them out, and seems strange that every single one of them would be leaking/corroding before ever being used and 2 years before the expiry date. Especially because for Zinc batteries Panasonic are supposed to be the best, the most leak-proof. What do you think?

>>
>>107093718
The main advantage of an air fryer is that it's small, because it means it heats up very quickly and food cooks a bit differently in it. If you're getting a small oven you might as well just use your regular oven if it has convection because that's all an air fryer is, a different form factor for a convection oven.

if you're that much of a normie then you don't need one. your identity/internet activity/profile is attached to your isp. vpn is like a secret identity.
>>
>>107097195
It's mostly for pirating. I pirated Anchorman without a VPN and I got a scare letter in the mail from the Comcast kikes, threatening legal action if I kept pirating. With a VPN they can't see your IP: they have departments of cronies whose job is to monitor popular torrents and collecting IPs of people who are connected to those torrents.

Besides that, websites can fingerprint you or sniff your cookies and datamine you, so they know that you went to 4chan when visiting instagram or etc. This is a blatant violation of privacy: a VPN helps hide your tracks online.

Finally, VPNs have usage as an SSL tunnel so no men in the middle can pry on your traffic. This is vital for things like telecommuting: you connect to your company's network securely, from anywhere, as if you were physically in the office.

Any advice on recovering deleted files?
What's the best software? Data Rescue o Recuva is a good solution? Any other professional solution?
>>
>>107097357
Recuva is the best. Try not to install it to the same drive that you deleted the file from, because it is likely the like has been overwritten and permanently unrecoverable. Deep scans are better but take longer. There's a certain chance that your file is gone for good no matter what though.

>websites can fingerprint you or sniff your cookies and datamine you, so they know that you went to 4chan when visiting instagram or etc. This is a blatant violation of privacy: a VPN helps hide your tracks online
VPN is totally ineffective against client fingerprinting. They detect your hardware config and browser history with JavaScript primarily. Don't forget they're mostly tracking mobile clients which change IP several times a day.
>>
>>107097272
speaking of torrenting.... if someone live streams for several hours could that make an ISP think that they are torrenting ?

I checked my monthly usage and its 2.5-3 TB of usage.
>>
>>107097403
No. ISPs determine if you're torrenting literally from scraping the list of connected IPs, not from your traffic.

As a matter of fact as long as you are within reasonable usage they don't care what you do with your connection at all, it is the Hollywood studios that strongarm them into clamping down on pirates, but if it was up to them they'd be like "pirate all you want, buddy".
>>
>>107097432
The studios send infringement reports to whoever owns the IP. ISPs aren't responsible for watching your traffic for piracy.

yeah i think i will throw them out, including the Kodaks. i just found one of them, inside a clock i put it in only a month ago, although not leaking in the treaditional sense (alkaline crystaly stuff coming out of the bottom), it had a wetness under the wrapper along the side which was definitely not there before. holy fuck.

but just to clarify, the 'rust' at the bottom of the Panasonics - that's definitely corrosion from small amount of the acid leaking out and oxidizing, right?

One more question - thoughts on the chink batteries that come bundled with gadgets? Would they be more reliable (against leaking) than retail batteries, or less?
On the one hand, >chinkshit. On the other hand, device manufacturers surely know that having batteries leak inside the box (even worse, inside the unused product) isn't a good look, hence would be more careful about including good batteries? vs retail battery manufacturers like Duracell who don't give a fuck, they know normies won't chase up, and even if they did, whatever, just send em some replacements.

i am so fucking sick of trying to get irvines 64 bit bullshit working i'm about to walk away from it. the fuck is up with this stupid nigger and his brokeass fucking libraries. all these fucking years that book has been in print and he's never fixed his shit or changed the 64 bit material from being anything other than an afterthought at the end of the chapter. this shit is why everything in tech is so broken. everything other than libraries libraries libraries is non fucking functional to start with.

now i have to spend all day debugging 64 bit assembly code that i barely understand in the first place in a book meant to teach you 64 bit assembly code. fucking faggot.

niggers.

NiMH and non-rechargeable lithium will pretty much never leak. If your device works with either of those, you should use them. NiMH pay for themselves very quickly, and most anything with a motor runs better on NiMH because lower internal resistance. If it has to be alkaline just don't trust them. Either inspect periodically or take them out when the device isn't being used. Clean up leakage with baking soda and water.

>>107097637
Yeah but you goys shut internet down without a warning or reason half the time. Fuck I'm so glad to have fiber now.

I currently have a second computer set up with barebones W10 running as a server. I would like to move to linux.
I have ~40tb on it and mostly use it for storage and a jellyfine setup with the occasional game server.

I use remote desktop mostly to do things on it. I am use to a GUI and dont think i can commit to a command line only change at the moment. What are some options for me?
More than willing to learn and troubleshoot my problems just need to know where to start.
>>
>>107098407
stick to windows
the windows remote desktop system is flawless
>>
>>107098407
>want to use linux
>don't want CLI and prefer a GUI
First of all, why? If you don't like using CLI then just stick to Win10.
And is there a reason why you want to go from Win10 -> Linux? You have to know that some programs don't work on linux. If it's just a media storage server then you can just unmount your HDDs, nuke Win10, install Linux, mount your HDDs.
If those games you have are in that 40TB storage then you are not going to just plug and play them on a Linux machine.

they have relatively high self-discharge, making them at least traditionally unsuited for long-term low-power purposes, like a wall clock, where the self-discharge will consume more power than the clock itself
that said, there are modern low-self-discharge nimh batteries, such as eneloops, which should last years in a wall clock, still probably not as long as an alkaline, but at least they won't leak as far as i've seen
>>
>>107098523
That is exactly my point i can just drop windows and mount the drives thats not the issue. I can CLI the game servers that also not the issue its the movement of files. I have syncthing for some folders and jdownloader for others etc..
My workflow for many years has been conducive to moving many files manually that Im not confident in a command line only way.

There are zero programs that i need on the server that do not already run natively on linux.
>>
>>107098553
I don't think you can even get the old style NiMH batteries any more. Even the chinkshit brands they sell at Walmart have good charge retention over a couple years.
>still probably not as long as an alkaline
Yeah but you still have to take the clock down off the wall to check it periodically, or more likely just buy a new clock every couple years. Either way NiMH is probably a better solution.
>>
>>107098594
you're not wrong, you're probably adjusting the time more often than the battery runs out, so just swap them at the same time and put the previous on charge for next time
>>
>>107098614
-- or rather, charge it a bit before replacing it, not right away. they won't last as long if you store them fully charged for long periods, like any rechargeable
>>
>>107098565
If you are not confident of keeping your files safe when moving OS here's what you can do:

Option 1: Separate Linux machine, once built transfer all 40TB on it. Only thing you need is a separate machine and an extra 40TB of storage.
Option 2: Copy your files into another 40TB storage devices, if you already have a backup (which you should in the first place) then you can skip this step. Nuke Win10, install Linux. Once installed copy the files back to your server.

Your server situation sounds so jank but hey, if it works for you then it works. But I would personally change it.

My server is 4 machines. First is my NAS server, all my files are there. Second machine is my backup for my NAS, I do a monthly backup of 200TB+ of shit which takes days to finish. Third machine is my hypervisor, so I run all my servers on it. It only has 500GB of storage because every file for my Jellyfin or my manga/PDF/ebook reader or my music and videos are all on my NAS. Last machine is my gayming PC, which also works as my main PC. If I wnt to play downstairs then I remote desktop into it with Moonlight using a miniPC downstairs.
>>
>>107098651
I'm not worried about the files with changing operating systems I’ve always kept data and os on separate drives that’s a none issue.
What you describe is almost what im looking for except combine the hypervisor and NAS. I don’t have dedicated systems for those individually but my current setup acts in a similar way I run jellyfin/yac etc. stimulatingly. I just figured it would make more sense to run those in a container environment or on a less bloated environment.
The issue is I’m an just not proficient in handling in the organization of the files.
I mostly mirror form a seedbox to offload any downloading from my main system.

>I do a monthly backup of 200TB+ of shit which takes days to finish.
use rsync rather than copying all 200TB each time

Its dead, right? fuck ass monitor
literally all that happened was that I unplugged it and plugged it back in 5 seconds later.
>>
>>107098865
Certainly sounds like it, if its failing on multiple ports, with multiple cables, on multiple machines and different operating systems, its gone.

I've had multiple ultrawides, from multiple brands just drop dead on me out of the blue. They are very, very weak hearted. I have a 144hz 27 inch from like 2017 thats trucking along just fine without ever having a single problem. In fact, I've never had anything but ultrawides fail.
>>
>>107098710
I do use rsync. But once I'm done I always use a custom script to verify the files by checking the CRC32 and checking if it matches the one on my list. Might be overkill and I don't know if I even need to do it, but I'm fine with it. It's all automatic anyways.
>>
>>107098708
>combine the hypervisor and NAS
Yeah, that's a no no for me. I've done it before for years. It works, but it's never recommended. Always install a NAS OS bare metal. I used to fiddle around with HDD IDs and PCIe passthrough and all that shit. Never going back to that nightmare.
>>
>>107099030
i see, you're doing a scrub at the same time
>>
My Laptop's Ethernet port only does 1 gigabit

Is there a way to get wired network connections through a USB port or displayport or something that would have a higher speed?
>>
>>107099054
Pretty much.
My NAS does a scrub every day, 8% of the total array and older than 14 days. Thinking about it now, maybe I should do it that way too for my backup server. Instead of doing a full scrub once a month. But that means I need to leave my backup server on 24/7. I don't want to power on, scrub then power off. That's just going to degrade my HDDs faster.
Hm, might need to think about this some more.
>>
>>107099106
If it has USB3 ports you can get 2.5Gb adapters pretty cheap.

How can I automatically append ?a to the end of the URL each time I open 4cdn links in a new tab?

Semi-recently, 4chan started compressing images. This makes it impossible to reverse-search the image in the archives.
You can bypass this by adding ?[characters] to the end of the URL. I just type ?a. Like so:
https://i.4cdn.org/g/1762213653794974.jpg 51.1kb
https://i.4cdn.org/g/1762213653794974.jpg?a 60.1kb
I've been opening each image I want to save and adding ?a, but I save a lot of images, and it's becoming too time consuming. I'd like a way to automatically add it.
