If you're running a local model and feed it a text file for it to memorize that is 8k tokens long and then send the model the message "hi" 10 times, you've sent 8k tokens total. i tried local kobold but my pc is too shit, need to use mid models, takes about a minute to generate a 150 token response and need to keep a rather low chat memory amount. grok seems just fine to me, the daily message limit sucks but it would take hours to go past it locally anyway for me, also it seems to get the character i want right even with just a couple of sentences describing it instead of all the autism i need to go through with w++ or whatever is called on chub. the only issue (desides the free limits) is that whenever slavery gets brought up (eg goblin girl slave) it insists in making the character say "Massa" which is funny the first time it happens but having to micromanage the character to not make it say specific shit every time is annoying.
if the price ever gets down around like 5$ monthly and doesnt get ultra censored i might actually think about it, but probably by then i will have bought a real pc anyway
