9070xt > 5070ti
>>107303837That's a big GPU for such a little motherboard.
I have a 2x16GB kit of DDR5 that I bought when prices were normal. Should I buy another and use all 4? The same exact kit is in stock.
Is a 9060 xt overkill for 1080p?
>>107304082Well do you need another 32gb and are you aware of the potential constraints using 4 sticks?>>107304115Not at all
Hey /pcbg/, can I see your RAM face?
>>107304127>Well do you need another 32gb and are you aware of the potential constraints using 4 sticks?I think so, I am running out of memory on some AI video generation slop. But I'm not aware of the constraints. It's just a CL36 kit at 6000mhz and I'm on a 9800X3D.
>>107304131
>>107304069>>107304086anons your cars?? when I was picking up my monitor I just parked in front of the courier office and then in front of my house
>>107304115Not at all. You may want to jump to a 1440p monitor at some point, so you'd be ready. And, even at 1080p, the 9060 XT will give better 1% and .1% lows.
>>107304131Well... since it is Sunday...MFW I bought 32gb DDR5 6000 last Sunday for $200 and yesterday it jumped to $400.
its been 4 days and they still haven't shipped my RAM, I'm getting concerned they are going to fuck me and sell it to someone else.
>>107304208>car>europoorno but seriouslyyou think I would be kvetching about restocking fees and getting something gathered at my house for a small fee compared to paying gas prices and dealing with bullshit all day and carrying giant tvs if I weren't poor? noalso I neither have a car or a license at this current point in timebut yeah now I am gonna blow money on just beta testing shit, maybe I should just buy disposable tier diplays.. (1440p180 ips) after all
>>107304257I'm also Europoor and my 2002 Opel Zafira that I bought for a thousand euros can easily fit a large Monitor in the back, and can potentially run on sunflower seed oil if diesel becomes more expensive than cooking oil.
>>107304242>The guy that I nearly bought 64GB of DDR5 RAM for $200 from the other day, didn't reply to me and just deleted the listing (probably decided to keep it for himself)>The price of a RAM pack I was eyeing in a local store increased by $60 over the weekendIt's truly over.
can i just buy the steam thing if i dont care and just want a new PC or should i get a mac mini? it's been a decade since i last had a pc.
>>107304302At this rate, the "steam thing" is going to cost $3k by the time it drops.
>>107304302If you don't care about size you should pick up a used custom build from Marketplace or similar. If you want a small computer, why the hell do you want a small computer? Can't fit a normal PC under your desk? Your wife forces you to hide your tech away in a closet like that one reddit screenshot?
>>107304302As mentioned, we have NO idea the price point...since Valve saw the ram-pocalypse coming. If ALL you want is a small computer to game on and surf 4chan, and the price is acceptable, sure. Go for it. Just don't overbuild your expectations. Like, the "60fps @ 4K" thing will be with upscaling and frame gen. The other anon was right- get something used that's decent. The used market hasn't caught up to the fact the ram and storage in their slightly old gaming PC is worth more then they're asking for the entire rig.
Want..
>>107304291I at least avoided any independent sellers but I should have bought from amazon instead of this smaller chain.
Okay, I have 2 kits of Samsung b-die DDR4. One is 32gb, the other is 16gb. What's the fastest, easiest way to test for performance improvement if I can them working together? They're the same timings, but 32gb is 4000 @ 1.4v and the 16gb is 3600 @ 1.35v. The question is ultimately, will my performance improve if I install both on my x570 board? 5700x3d @ 1900fclk if that mattersand planning to run both kits @ 3800.
Front USB header is fucking glued in here lmao what the actual fuck. Not even prying with a screwdriver is getting this thing out. I don't even care about front USB ports this is just baffling.
>>107304431Outside of very specific software with dynamic data caching, more ram will not make anything run faster. If it's enought it's enough. If it's not - it swaps and/or crashes, and you will immediately notice swapping.
>>107304291I just went and caved, bought my build early. $200 for 32gb killed me.
>>107304354can steam thing do pc stuff or it's just games? I want to use windows or get mac mini to do pc stuff
>>107304461As an automotive tech, I feel the pain. You need to spray in some WD40 and use wide pliers with small ends and grasp on the long side edges. Work it gently back and forth, not up and down. Patience. It will come out.
I have a 1TB Nvme and a 4TB HDD, should I get a 2TB Nvme(Samsung 990) that is on sale for $170? I'm just planning ahead in case SSDs in general spike up soon.
>>107304488The Gabe Cube is Linux-based, so... yeah, you'll have to make friends with the penguin. Limited support for hardware, many softwares unable to run.
>>107304431It will not improve performance unless you actually need more ram. That's how ram works. if you have an 8gb kit, 16 kit and a 32gb kit and they all run the same speed, they will run equally fast. Until the lower capacity kits run out of space and then start to slow down to a crawl while the higher capacity kits work just fine. You will have a small performance drop, since your system would limit itself to 3600mhz. Since if you mix two different speed kits it will always slow down to the slowest stick. You will not be able to run the system at 3800mhz unless you manually overclock the 3600mhz kit and hope it's stable at 3800mhz and doesn't crash. Honestly if you do not need the extra 16gb ram your system will be a bit slower and it's best to just stick with the 32gb 4000mhz kit.
>>107304534Storage is already trending up. I snagged a 4tb Crucial 310 NVMe for $240. I would suggest finding one that size, since they're going to keep going up in price. Buy now.
people are so dumb, they waited for the prices to skyrocket to decide they need an unreasonable amount of ram they don't actually need
>>107304518I appreciate you. This is the first time I've ever had pins get stuck like this. I'm just glad it was this and not having to solder new pins or anything.
>>107304466>>107304431Hmm guess I should've worded it differently. How can I test to see whether performance is the same or if it degraded compared to only running the 32gb kit? Mainly interested in using it for gaming desu.
>>107304534If you need more SSD space in the next 2 years then you probably should. The prices aren't expected to lower back to normal until 2027-2028. Only good deal on storage I recently saw was someone selling an unopened WD Red SA500 2tb for 100 euros. Thought about buying one but I already 10tb SSD storage so didn't buy it.
>>107304573Run CPU bottlenecked games that simple. Drop your settings to stupid low levels until your CPU becomes the bottleneck. Then compare the 32gb and 48gb results.
>>107304572It's almost always heat that does this. Be sure to check the pins after you get it out.
>>107304559>>107304581I'm a neet at the moment don't really want to spend too much on a second NVMe. I might go with that 2TB Samsung one and call it a day since it would only be used for modern games like FF7Remake/Rebirth and all my emulator games would be on my HDD. Thanks for the advice!
>>107304547Yeah, they both run stable @ 3800 seperately, as I've already tested them. Just trying to decide whether to sell the 16gb or not because I wouldn't mind having 64gb if I can get them working together as specified in my post. Guessing a lot of people may be in a similar position as well.
Basically, when I can finally buy the parts to build my PC, the prices of RAM and SSDs go through the rooffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck
>>107304131you like it?
>>107304567Yeah for sure... the people is who are getting this prices going up
>>107304631At least a year and a half... or RIGHT NOW. ram and storage can still be had if you don't need the best of the best. But every day it's going up.
I need 96GB of RAM by next week and I'll pay anything for it.
>>107304599Oh that's the easiest & fastest way then, you think? Would benchmarks like with 3DMark be sufficient?
Jensen did this, he knows pc builders are the biggest suckers in the world that will buy the toys he makes at any price he decides they should be and he told ram manufacturers they can do the same and he is right, the chuddies will pay $400 for 64gb ram, gamers are suckers and they are to be taken advantage of, they have no self-control or restraint when buying hardware
>>1073046673DMark isn't a good tool for CPU testing. Honestly just run the benchmarks on the games you play at low enough settings that your CPU is the bottleneck (since the results would be basically identical if the GPU is a bottleneck). Maybe running something like cinebench can work as well. But for gaming results just testing the games you play is best.
>>107304656$1175 and available TODAY! So don't delay, act now, supplies are running out. Allow, if you're still alive, six to eight years to arrive.
>>107303837Repost:I am considering buying a mini pc, Gmk k12:<AMD cpu, 3xnvme, 96gb ram<Chinese thunderbolt for a workstation gpu. I want to run Linux (alpine my daily desktop os), blender, basic local models, and vms with k8s.Would that be an upgrade over a 9th gen i5 intel? My alternative is around 1.5x times more expensive dell ws with a2000 and 32gb ram.
>>107304697Hmm okay then. I read that cinebench scores don't really correlate much with ram so not sure whether to mess with that. Thanks for your help, anon!
>>107304711Considering the price of ram now, if it does have 96gb and it's legit, not scammy chinesium fakery, it might be a good option
>>107304685People who buy nvidia shit are the dumbest consumers I've ever seen. They are the biggest brand dick suckers in the tech industry, even outstripping apple because they will buy objectively inferior products for gigantic markups just to have the name brand. At least with apple the experience is markedly different. It was so bad that AMD just gave up and started selling their gpus to other companies. He has understood this for decades and built on it to become the richest company that ever existed.
I hadn't done a build in so long. I wanted to go slow and be careful and read through the manuals and it took me 7 fucking hours. Also, the manuals don't explain shit. I had to search for fucking reddit posts to explain basic functionality and installation practices. Even had an illustration bait me by showing the wrong screws, thanks Fractal. Then let's not even get started with unfucking the fan curves and the RGB. I'm still installing various flavors of manufacturer malware.

>>107304782>it took me 7 fucking hours.Intelligence quotient issue

>>107304806That was because AMD CPUs were actual dogshit and there was no reason to buy one. In the case of Ati/AMD there were generations where the red gpu was cheaper, on a newer node, more power efficient, better all around performance with absolutely no drawback and they were still completely ignored by consumers. As soon as they began to outcompete in the CPU space sentiment shifted, it took ages for marketshare to catchup but it was obvious for the pc builder what the best option was. No matter what the GPU arm does it doesnt matter, I think the only reason there hasn't been an unrelenting cliff for their marketshare was the crypto boom where the new consumers actually started to care about real world performance.>>107304866do you open your pc case and jerk off to the nvidia logo every day? They spit out frames in games, its all the same shit. The era im talking about was also long before the raytracing gimmick began to differentiate the offerings.
>>107304832Is it that easy to do without fucking up the pads? I thought those things were delicate enough that you'd almost "need" to replace them if you opened it up to repaste?
>>107304950The card im gonna repaste seemed extremely easy in the 3 videos i watched, one of them took a total of 3 minutes. But yeah it seems that the uncoupling is the moment you have to be careful so that you dont disturb that pads that much. And then being careful and precise when coupling them back.

AND THE HITS KEEP COMING Seriously anyone who saw Steve's engineering videos or Linus talking about how Valve basically turned to stone when he mentioned pricing should've been this coming. Nothing they did sounded cheap at all.
>>107305282>But it's not going to be a sort of subsidized device, like, Valve is not going into this thinking we're going to eat a big loss on this so that we can grow market share or category or anything like that, correct?>Pierre-Loup Griffais: No, it's more in line with what you might expect from the current PC market. Obviously, our goal is for it to be a good deal at that level of performance. And then you have features that are actually really hard to build if you are making your own gaming PC from parts. Things like the small form factor, the noise level that we achieved, or lack thereof, is really impressive and we are excited that people are going to find out how quiet this thing is. But also some integration features like HDMI CEC. The Bluetooth and wireless work that we've done, the four antennas, the very deliberate design so that you can have a great experience with four Bluetooth controllers. It turns out, just like how building ITX PCs drastically increases the price, building a steam box is also fucking expensive.
>"oh boy i think i'm gonna get 32GB more DDR4 RAM for my olde computer">local retailers price gouging DDR4 sticks to keep in line with DDR5 prices>"oh boy i'm stuck with this amount of RAM until i build a DDR6 system"

Right now, I think Snoy has the advantage over XBox or the Gabe Cube. Better yet, starting right now, get a used gaming PC that's a couple years old, before the average idiot realizes there's a massive spike in memory and storage.
>>107305190Yeah, that'd probably do then. Can't imagine anything demanding enough to drop under that other than maybe gta 6 with npc's cranked up. Hope Im right, because I'm betting on my 5700x3d holding up until zen 6 or 7. Will help if you get you're ram to 3800 & pair with 5700x3d @ 1900fclk

>>107306624>Over some 5-10 years, a 5% difference in efficiency adds upI would argue that if you hoard your boxes, it's worth buying the premium PSU's because of the potential 10 year warranty. And also there are situations where a better PSU will survive brown outs better (tomshardware reviews "hold-up time"). Or the fan is loud, or EM noise? But the argument that a gold vs bronze PSU will save you money is false, you would save more money by downgrading / limit the GPU/GPU/Monitor than from the getting a gold/better PSU (such as the 500W smart PSU).The big reason why is because your components typically Idle at a low wattage, even for watching videos. It's just unrealistic to assume you will run your GPU at 500watts for 10 hours a day, and if this was your real world situation, at 20 cents per kilowatt hour, that means 365 days * 10 hours * (500 watts/1000 kilowatt * 0.2) = $365 of power cost per year, so if you had a 20% efficiency improvement, that's $70 a year saved. But you just spent $365 in a single year on power... And that's implying that you don't spend the majority of your day being unemployed and doom scrolling. But if you are spending like $3000 on your PC, there is no reason to not buy a platinum PSU, but it's just not that worth spending the extra $50+ on a PSU that's 5% more efficient if you are trying to make a $800 PC build, ONLY on efficiency (warranty/noise/aesthetics, maybe, also in the EU I think bronze PSU's are non-existent or not as cheap as in other places).

I'm sorry to tell you this... but in the next 10 years soldered all-in-one PC's are going to be the cheapest upgrade option. The phone generation does not like the PC building autism it turns out. Steam Machine X3D is going to be a fan favorite.
>>107307050>it doesn't happen when you have 3 companies basically in charge of the whole industryMy dear sweet summer child you have much to learn about the real world.
>>107307155nta buy you should buy bigger wattage than you currently need because every gen GPU's keep getting fatter and fatter. I had to waste another 150 bongs rebuying a psu because my old one was just under the requirements of my new system.

>>107307214>>he thinks we aren't going to get a new PSU connector in the next 10 yearsI mean as we have seen over the years when a new connector is released we get adapters. My old 980ti came with a 2x6 pin to 1x8 pin adapter for those who had pre 2007 PSU's that only had 6 pin power cables. So whatever new GPU power standard is used in 10 years there will just be an adapter.
>>107307265Some PSUs still comes with a random Molex adapter just in case.
>>107307265>adapterjanky>>107307274for the poors
Are GPU prices going to be fucked for YEARS or will upgrade opportunities come by? I really don't want to fall for this FUD but maybe it's true and this is really there last time GPU will be affordable until 2029 or something. In which case I guess I'll go all out and get a 5070ti.
>>107307265well, you aren't supposed to use the old PSU with the mainboard, you are supposed to buy the all-in-one pc including the case and PSU.BUT, if you wanted to save $200~, you could reuse your case + psu, or buy a cheaper case or psu, with only the mainboard. That's how the Framework mainboard PC works (you need a fan too).https://frame.work/products/framework-desktop-mainboard-amd-ryzen-ai-max-300-series?v=FRAFMK0002Now well other manufacturers take this approach? probably not. Will we get soldered all-in-one motherboards with PC's that need more than 300~ watts? And possibly making a new PSU connector could save the manufacturing cost by a dollar instead of just adding more 8-pin connectors? Maybe, but probably not.I don't want this change to happen because it makes things impossible to repair for no good reason (since CPU's and GPU's are separate chips...).But... if APU's got bigger... and way more power hungry... and people demand more mini PC's like the steam machine, it's possible to happen (and it's more likely they won't sell the mainboard, you need to buy the whole box).
>>107307324Safest assumption is yes, there's already rumors that amd/nvidia are prepping to raise pricing to cover the memory costs.
>>107307151Yeah, when testing one of their AiOs for a comparison video, Mike from Hardware Canucks was basically like, "this price would normally seem kinda sus, except it's Thermalright."
>>107307324Realistically GPUs are already at basically the most people are willing to pay.
>>107307378they already know people were willing to pay way more from covid
>>107307381Miners aren't regular GPU buyers
>>107307381those were not people, those were eth miners
>>107307324If you're on something older, you should buy now while gpu prices haven't increased.
>>107303837Can somebody build me a pc that's an (maybe Pentium) i5 16gb of ram and 1tb ssd for cheap but new?
>>107307381It's the same hyper-enthusiasts that buy 5090s today.GPUs are still priced more or less along the lines of inflation. A 1080Ti was priced at what would be today around $800-$900. And a 5080 can be bought today for $1000.Obviously the 1080Ti was a way better value proposition for its time, but, regardless of the relative power of a series, Nvidia has priced their RRP at close to inflation, with a little monopolyist greed here or there.
>>107307405just get a mini pc
>>107307422 Raspberry Pi’s average memory prices reportedly increased 120% year-on-year.
>>107307324Honestly, if you're running current games fine, I wouldn't worry about it.It's when the next console cycle drops and you're a few generations behind that you can feel a little concerned.
>>107307405>>107307422ditto
>>107307216iirc, original anon was talking about a 750w PSU for a 570w PC. And again, iirc, I think I said that was fine, it would stay in the safe zone and not strain the PSU at it's limits while still offering a buffer for upgrades. Again, iirc.

>>107303837Hey pcbros, what's with the XG27AQWMG? I got about $660 saved for it but it ain't coming out. Seeing the banding issues on reddit and missing black Friday deals on other monitors makes me question it. I already had a G61SD which was a Samsung matted 1440p OLED monitor, and I returned it since I was anticipating for this. But if it is being released with all these issues, will it be worth it? Especially since they're talking about tarrifs which could rise it about $599
