I can already picture it. its 10 a month for a basic cloud pc. If you want to game its at least 30. Then they start rationing the cloud resources and you need to pay more to play at peak times.

I found this one, it's more expensive but has 64gb of 6000mhz ram and 2tb ssd which should justify the difference. Also a presumably normal (but not necessarily good) motherboard and case. I wish prebuilts would give an list of exactly which components they use. Maybe I could figure out the motherboard by carefully examining the back panel connectors but I cbf.

There appears to be scientific debate over the subject, with claims that dogs are dichromats capable of detecting yellow and blue, and cats are trichromats with yellow, green, blue, and violet, but they lack red and orange. They have far fewer cones, so they wouldn't be able to distinguish details of color as well as humans. They're very good at detecting brightness and motion.

Found a good deal on a 98003xd/9070xt prebuilt. The problem is that cpu is overkill for me and it comes with liquid cooling. I've had my i7 6700k running like an champ air cooled for 9 years. Liquid cooling seems like a turbo kit or something that's going to be finicky and shitty.

I would get MSI Afterburner and learn how to apply a 70~80% power limit on OS startup.
That power limit + an undervolt should keep things safe.
For the undervolt, I would apply a +105 or +120MHz GPU core offset and set a 900mV voltage cap using Afterburner's Curve Editor.

It's not that intimidating; it's moving a few sliders and dragging a curve down.

You don't have to worry too much, 2080 Ti is a 250W base TDP card (600W PSU recommended), and the power limit + undervolt can lower the power draw down to 180~200W.

If I'm currently rocking a 5700x3D/3080 10GB build is it smart spending ~2,000 (after sales tax) for a pre-built 7800x3D/9070 XT (w/ (probably) cheap 32GB DDR5) and a (probably) okay-ish PSU.

I can just spend $650 for the 9070 XT as a GPU upgrade alone, but I feel like I might as well get off the AM4 platform now while I can, take the wound, and avoid any further price fuckery (I had planned to do a full rebuild at some point next year anyway).

Not having the money isn't a problem here, I just don't want to spend it like a retard.

I don't want to be stuck with 10GB VRAM for any longer than I have to. The next batch of GPUs aren't out until late 26/early 27 and I'm not guaranteed to get one during launch rush either. Also consider that I got this 3080 during launch week back in Oct/2020 was well.

>especially not to mid tier current gen
Is a 9070XT/7800x3D considered mid end? I thought it was more lower-high end. I'd effectively be moving from 2020 (at the time) high end specs to 2026 (at the time) high end specs overall. An equivalent power tier jump over 2 generations of cards in a 6 year period isn't that abnormal. I'd also have a CPU upgrade path on AM5 going down the line as well.

It's an acceptable time to buy a GPU now, so you can do that, and regardless of runaway "mid" inflation, the 9070XT/5070ti tier is the last stop before prices go retarded. 7800X3D is a generation old now and one generation above 5700X3D, and RAM is already unsustainably fucked, so I'd keep the 5700X3D until 10800X3D or whatever they call it.

M25 is typical. I looked at the set I bought from amazon it was 25mm. That should work for most any fan unless the fan is much wider. Most kits go 25mm then 30mm, so if you have fat fans you might need 28mm, but I bet you'll be fine with 25mm

no, except in some edge math cases that have to be looked at under a microscope.
the 9070 however features way more dollar per FPS than the 7900 XTXs, so in a way it is stronger in the fact that per dollar you are getting more raster.

good luck. Also something to keep in mind with push pull, as I am one of the full on custom water cooling faggots, and I've done a lot and learned a lot in the process.

>when it comes to pull, the static pressure of the fan matter more than airflow
>Use the gasket if they have one for pull
>Unless you have a rad with a high fin density, push/pull doesn't give that much.
>If you can re-adjust to your rad to pull in cold air, just a simple push cold air will provide better cooling than a push/pull with hot air

Just let me know if I can help.

Anon, there is an air version of that case that comes with like 5 fans, and the net cost comes out to something like $2 a fan. They're not the greatest fans, but they're not the worst. Look into that model for a good fan deal. It will be cheaper than buying any fans.

Considering replacing my current build. I'm so tired of the retarded GPU economy.

I'm currently using an HP Omen I've had for about 3.5 years. It's the first prebuilt I've had in over 20 but I bought it because the 3080ti in it at the time cost more by itself than the entire fucking system did, and honestly it hasn't had any issues other than the fans defaulted to be loud as fuck and it ran a little hot.

I picked up a G9 57" monitor (not here yet) and I don't know if the 3080ti is going to quite hack it anymore.

Looking at getting one of the dell alienware prebuilts because I can get a 5080 with 265k for under 1700 bucks with current discounts. As much as I'd rather build my own it's really getting hard to justify nowadays

PCs are a lot cheaper and more generally useful than other hobbies. Guns, knives, and woodworking cost me more than PCs and I use the PC more often. It's not worth worrying about but I do understand your frustrations. I feel silly going back and forth over some minor but demonstrable PC upgrade when I'll drop more on a gun I'll barely shoot or a knife I'll never carry or a tool I'll use for some niche purpose a few times and then hang on to just in case someone else needs to join two countertops on a 45 degree miter or whatever again.

But at a certain point when you're financially secure, who cares? Buy what you like that makes you happy, it's only money.

Yeah fair point, you do only live once.

I do the same shit, I'll go back and forth over some useful part I should buy for my PC then drop way to much on a new suppressor for a caliber I rarely shoot. Thank god I have some sense because if I lost all restraint I'd go buy a transferable ma-duce ASAP. What's your favorite gun/caliber to shoot anon?
>>
>>107460185

Favorite would be 44, as I adore my 629 stealth hunter.

I shoot a lot more 9 though, and normally through a Shadow 2. I'd like to pick up a DWX but I like to buy private party whenever possible and they're scarce as hens teeth on the secondary market without having to ship, which to me says a lot about their quality and desirability.

Also picked up a 4.25 prodigy recently that actually seems very nice. Only put a couple thousand through it but it's a good shooter, although I really prefer irons for fun shooting (and my shadow 2 doesn't have an optic for that reason).

>>

>4.25 prodigy

I have a staccato C2 that a friend basically gave me, and it's probably my favorite pistol to shoot.

>>107460245
Why do you need 64GB anon?
>>
Deal?
>>
>>107460293

It's very nice. I hear the initial run had some issues but I've had none at all out of mine and it's not from that initial run. It has a surefire 300 and a holosun 507c and has been very reliable and a soft shooter.

Compared to a staccato, I don't think you'd realistically see much difference in actual use and the springfield mags are pretty good. My day job is in LE and a couple of the guys have staccatos and they're nice but no better than lots of the other 2011s on the market. There was a stint there where you could get base model Ps for about 1700 with an LE discount and a lot of us bought one then. I teach firearms for my agency but we're limited in what we can carry, so I only use it on my own time, and I normally conceal a 43x or 365 spectre off the clock.

> They're just m3 screws.
No! They are not metric! They have American "Unified Coarse Thread", UNC. Look here:
https://www.arctic.de/en/Radiatorfan-Screw/MPSCR00201BB
Where it says:
> UNC6-32 Screw

The threads of M3 are too small! I tried them and they don't seat firmly in the radiator!

The length that you need/want depends on the fan model and how you intend to run the screw. I used Arctic P14 PWM PST fans and I ran the screws not through both holes in the corners of the fan, just through the lower one. This is possible with this fan because it has open corners. For this reason I used 1/2 inch length. I might as well have used long screws through both holes but this would couple the mounting of grills with mounting the fans themselves. ARCTIC P14 are 27mm thick and would require at least 35mm long screws in this case so you can also install grills with them.

Yep. I was also expecting new 4090's to drop in price, not for China to be banned, with three months notice, so they could buy every 4090 in existence.

After spending some tine in local llm subreddits I've seen that they're seething hard at the ram pricing too but also that they are still willing to pay these prices. It also explained why all those ebay listings at insane prices are still selling, it really is just them buying it.

It doesn't even look like local LLM people care about money, they clearly have the cash, this shit is their video games and they are willing to pay up even when seething.

I have a RTX 5070 Ti that I've been using in a computer for a while, I have it overclocked/undervolted to 3000 MHz @ 0.9600 MV, it had been stable this way for several months.

Then recently I sold my computer but kept the 5070 Ti, built a new one and reinstalled it, the drivers, etc. but I noticed that my OC/UV is no longer stable for some reason? I can't go over 2950 MHz now at that same voltage without crashing.... what gives?

Because no one is buying LGA 1700 or LGA 1851 anymore. Former because it's a dead platform where the best CPU's are known to kill themselves. And Arrow Lake was slower in gaming than Raptor Lake so no one wants those either. That's why anyone buying DDR5 wants it to be EXPO based.

Real proud of my new pc because I always chose the cheapest option and bought refurbished/secondhand since I built my first pc at 14. I'm 27 now and finally splurged.

HOWEVER.

Its not as silent as I'd like it to be, even with the GPU fans turned off. All fans at 300 rpm and the hydroshift at its lowest rpm and I still hear a lot of fan noise, and even some high pitched rinkling from time to time. Spending a lot of money on a pc is a recipe for disappointment because every little thing gets put under a magnifying glass. Any tips to reduce the noise?

you have to set all the fans/pumps in bios to full speed because of the wireless connector.
>>
>>107461906
because many people, like the other anon that replied to you, easily fall for marketing tricks and look for the EXPO brand name first

pro tip: XMP profiles and EXPO profiles are specified in the same way in the RAM's SPD. XMP profiles work on AMD, and EXPO profiles work on intel. there are some AMD-specific blocks for extended subtimings but these aren't used in practice

Yes. I fucked up hard with the 4090. They sell used for what people bought them new. Even to this day. The 5090 will be the same or better. At worse you can sell it and get your money back after a year of use.
>>
>>107462336
Only the 5090 will hold resale.
>>
>>107462049
So the prices are basically inflated because even Intel users are scrambling for expensive EXPO RAM for no real reason? As long as the timings are relatively tight and the speed is fine other cheaper alternatives should work equally well (with the caveat that AMD systems can run into issues above 6000MHz).
>>
>>107462118
a 5080 is plenty enough for gaming if you are on 1440P, 5090 is only needed for 4K or serious computational loads. I've built both, if you don't need it, save dollars and get the 5080.
>>107462353
This guaranteed but i don't know if it's entirely true (i think 5080 might hold better value given how good it is). It's die is basically maxed out so I don't see huge improvements in next gen unless they manage to drop power consumption which is getting harder.

You need to update the motherboard BIOS, one with 0x12F microcode, to protect that 14700K.
Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX if you're comfortable with using the CPU + RAM-less Q-Flash Plus feature to update the board BIOS before you install the 14700K (4x M.2 slots, 6x SATA ports).

Spec sheet says it supports up to 64GB of DDR3, but the downloadable manual says it supports up to 32GB of DDR3.
