I thought I would eventually upgrade to AM5 but I'm still on a 5900x
Is it really that substantial of an upgrade /g/? Is my 9070xt that cucked by this CPU that I should go out and spend roughly a grand on mobo + CPU + RAM (because RAM is about half of that)?
I thought of just waitfagging it up even more but the last time GPUs went up in price absurdly the prices didn't go down to anything reasonable.

I have a 360hz 1440p monitor but I'm not after crazy frames. I'm fine with anything between 60 and 120fps as long as it's dead smooth. I'm more worried about frame instability or stutters. I don't know if a GPU bottleneck would cause more issues there or if it's just "less frames".
Graphics settings I usually set to high or enough where the lighting doesn't look weird. I think that's going to bite me in the ass with raytracing because, even though I disable it in most cases, there might be games like Indiana Jones where disabling raytracing makes the game genuinely look like garbage. The shadows look awful.
I'm not unhappy but I have done very few tests so far. The wukong benchmark isn't reaching 60fps "maxed out" but I don't notice anything particularly wrong with it.

>>107535277
I could, but isn't that sort of a sidegrade? Nowadays I don't really do anything that would require a lot of threads I assume, but these CPUs haven't dropped down in price and I don't know if I would gain much from that.

Maybe I'll wait it up. Someone suggested doing an overclock and using PBO + curve optimizer but I don't know if I have the energy for what might not be substantial at all

Price rise was already announced.
>9070xt
Depends on price difference compared to non-XT in your area.
non-XT can be flashed with XT BIOS to increase power limits but it won't re-enable the missing cores.
Conversely you can lower power limit on XT to make it significantly more energy-efficient if you care about electricity price.

thanks anons its definitely some stuff for me to think about

Both the recommendations seem a little higher than I was aiming in both cost and quality (the stuff I was looking at was in the 9600X/5060ti range). Not necessarily opposed to higher if its truly necessary but just knowing myself I don't know if I need that much. I'll have to try looking at some comparisons on various games with setups using these gpu/cpu and see because I just am not well versed in newer hardware either and I haven't looked or researched too in depth just yet.

But yeah I'm looking at am5 and my RAM is DDR5 6000 MHz

Hey, fellas. It's the anon that's still undecisive about what case to buy.

I'm from germany, the pc is mainly for gaming (I know I need to upgrade the GPU, it'll be in the next few months.) and I need a case + fans for it.

The case itself needs to have the power button / ports NOT ontop of the casing, since it's on the table next to me and I have budgies. Also no mATX's, ATX or dual chamber or bigger is fine.

The Lian Li O11 line looked good but they don't come with Fans, which im not sure how expensive that'd be to buy enough.

The Lancool 217 looked great but the power button is again ONTOP which really isn't that great. (I'm not a fan of Corsair, after seeing the build material.)

I sincerely need any help I can get and I'd be grateful if you guys can help me out.

My budget is around 200€~ for both case and fans. Not much more than that.
>>
>>107535443
Should get the lancool 217, you won't find a case with more features and expandability at its price range. You can probably cover the power button on the top with something, it's also quite a firm button so I don't think your budgies have the weight to press it unless they jump on it hard.
>>
I have MSI X470 Gaming Plus motherboard. I don't use my top M.2 drive. I have AMD 7800XT GPU. My system drive is my second, lowest M.2 drive slot. Does that negatively affect the performance of my system in terms of system latency during gaming? And I were to use upgrade to a new system drive for top M.2 slot, would that negatively or positively affect the gaming performance of my 7800XT in terms of latency?
>>
>>107535443
I have nothing useful to add, but I hope your budgies are doing well, anon!

Well that 2nd slot you're using runs at pcie 2.0 x4 which is kind of slow but it doesn't effect the rest of the system outside disabling an unused pcie slot and sata port. The top slot is fine to use an ssd in, it'll run at pcie 3.0 4x speeds even if you were to buy a gen 4 or 5 drive. The top slot has no penalty for using another m.2. Consult the specs.

>>
I want kind of optimal cooling/noise.
I'm planning on grabbing a lower end 360 AIO (don't know which to be honest) and put it on top. I'm using a Lancool 216.
At the bottom of the case I have next to nothing. The PSU is an RM850x Shift, so most cables are on the side and the shroud is unobstructed. The HDD cages were taken out as well. So there's this empty space there where air flows without doing much. I don't know if I should just remove the cover or install a fan there. My current GPU is a long, long 9070xt, so a bottom mounted fan would be blowing directly into the third GPU fan. There's also the other bottom mount for a fan but it's obstructed by the PSU anyways, not sure what the point of it is. Maybe more noise.
So, any AIO recommendations for AM4/AM5? And what would you do, just leave the default fan configuration on the Lancool 216? Mount any fans at the bottom or open the covers?
Man this set up is weird. I could even lower the motherboard and install a thick radiator at the top and because the PSU is so "unique" and gay I could avoid the problem of not having enough clearance at the bottom for a fan by installing that fan below just because there's enough clearance for that. But why would I even want to do that
>>
>>107535680
Well you can't really break it, but yea they need to make a standardized plug at this point.

>>107535697

It's entirely user error. Windows 10 doesn't support latest d3d12core the WDDM driver and d3d12 applications use. RTX is known to have massive driver issues on anything that's not last years/beginning of this years drivers. Intel is slower than AMD for gaming unless you buy 14th Gen exclusively + overkill expensive ddr5. You have software and hardware issues that are finally catching up.

You use Linux and get Linux driver issues with Nvidia, complemented by boot problems, black screens, compositor breakage, non stop screen tearing or Krashes if you don't want tearing, erratic GPU usage on the desktop, as well as soft lockups caused by the most inane causes such as using night mode. ironically, it may not be the drivers themselves, Njudea might have pulled an AMD from the past, released an inherently unstable product they spend YEARS trying to patch into stability instead of admitting the product was defective, the RX5800 + Radeon VII in particular.

I love my Radeon VII, i made like 5x the purchase cost mining eth on it, but its tendency to randomly black-screen crash the system, whether mining or gaming, was a pain. Looked more kino than any gpu design before or since tho, they should re-release it or something next gen with a powerful upgrade and HBM memory again, might be cool.

Pic rel, my mining build setup after i upgraded to a 6900xt on my main rig. For a stock fan cooler combo, that looked awesome.

Time to use AMD
First have to use linux since windows will uninstall the official drivers every single week
Then go on random discord servers and hunt for some actual drivers that might work, hope TrannyPedo643 is online and updated them
Then go on github to get some more drivers in case the others don't work don't worry this is totally normal for amd and you're totally dumb if you don't do it
Make sure to hit up reddit too r/AMDhelp has 200 thousand people on it for good reason after all
Oh yeah don't forget to get optiscaler too so you can use a bunch of features AMD does not officially support either, don't worry there's lots of servers and forums to spend all day on
Oh yeah can't forget lossless scaling, make sure to buy that as well in case AMD's terrible frame generation is still even worse than some random one man operation
Then look for the list of games that use FSR 3.1 and turn on FSR 4. Don't worry it's only about 100 games so it's very easy to find one
Oh wait I forgot FSR 4 is now called FSR so just look for that instead
Then setup your undervolt so that the 9070XT does not try to pull 350W every single time the fans spin
And make sure you didn't buy one with the housefire cable because even a 9070XT can burn those cables somehow
Oh yeah after all that you can go and get redstone too and enjoy MAX FPS (Official AMD terminology) in the latest games

And after all that you can finally enjoy AMD's crowning glory and the reason they put all this work in and made all those graphics cards: CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS 7

QDOLED have issues not limited to the raised blacks. What are the symptoms of a powerhungry GPU during play? Because the games just keep closign to desktop. No forewarning or error reports. The game just closes. And never during the intensive phases. Just sitting in menus etc.

from buying three gigabyte 4090s and 5090, I can say that gigabyte's gpus have been really good since rtx4000 despite the ocassional bad press.
you're basically getting one of the most affordable rtx gpus that also have the highest power limits for OCing, fairly decent coolers that run moderately quiet and also the lowest vram temps among air cooled cards, and minimal amounts of coil whine among aibs. the only downside is that they aren't built as nicely as say an asus tuf, strix or astral but the actual experience of using them is pretty good

My motherboard had 0.1s default with steep curve so fans kept ramping up constantly.

On the ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme, you can use four NVMe SSDs without reducing the GPU’s PCIe 5.0 x16 slot by spreading storage across the board’s storage options: install one NVMe in the primary onboard M.2 slot (slot 1), add two more using the ASUS DIMM.2 module that plugs into the board’s DIMM.2 connector and provides two M.2 sockets, then connect the fourth through the board’s U.2 port using the appropriate U.2 to NVMe cable or adapter, so the extra drives use chipset or alternate lanes rather than taking lanes from the CPU’s main x16 link for the GPU.

Need help.
Built a new PC early this year and I'm still having a reoccurring issue when doing emulation gaming, playing video files (in any media player) or just using windows explorer where it'll randomly freeze for 20-30 seconds. This always happens at least once or twice on a daily basis, sometimes more often. I can still switch to other windows and they work fine but the functionality within those particular applications will be frozen (without crashing).
Not sure what's causing it and would appreciate simple steps to fix it if anyone knows wtf is going on.
Thanks.

okay so your gpu has to render everything that happens on your screen. it starts out at as a flip command. depending on your os, driver, monitor(s), various things will happen. ideally you want it to go into hardware composed: independent flip, that's the lowest latency, highest fps, and best power efficiency mode. but having say two monitors connected can affects your MPO so now it downgrades immediately to no flip optimizations aka composed: flip. the gpu is no longer involved, the work is being tasked to the cpu. its slow, inefficient, and saying that your gpu is broken and has no proper hardware acceleration.

nvidia has a problem where their mpo is broken most of the time so everything gets downgraded to the red gay bad mode. amd doesnt have this issue so everything is in the green good mode.

did you see the hub podcast with the boomer from sapphire and him saying amd marketshare due to steam surveys are probably higher than they show? kek

it's always been right but it's hyper competitive low latency and blur schizos that were most sensitive to it, not office cucks

you gonna run a poverty setup?

one screen for entertainment dual for office cuckery

or maybe people prefer one screen for focus

>>107538104
yes its fucking legit. if you're affected the easiest way to fix it is to just turn off the other monitor. if your monitor is really cucked then you have to yank out the cable from your gpu.

Steam Hardware Survey isn't mislabeling NVIDIA GPUs as AMD's or vice versa, so that Sapphire boomer's cope doesn't matter.

Are you sure? I looked into the nitro and on the store page it outright states that it can be powered from a 12VHPWR with a 3x8 adapter cable.
Gonna be honest, I found a few articles about Sapphire being kinda bad in terms of build quality, at least the Radeon cards.

always use the cables provided with the psu instead of any adapters. dont be the guy back in the day who used molex for their gpu.

use the proper psu for your gpu. dont mean just watts i mean amps and power cables.

it was a last second pivot and i was unable to replace it with a gigabyte/white one. Also i hear too much bad about gigabyte, and ASUS are on my perma-blacklist.

Also the contrast of the colours matters too, all 1 colour is as dull as black+red builds.

xfx easily, great brand, but buy a solid gpu-support or 2 for it. One to prop up the middle-left and one for the end.

It's really fucking hard to find a PSU with 3 PCIe ports. I found some that said they did but a look at the image told me that it was just two regular PCIe with a forked cable and then a PCIe5.1 atop of that.
Or should I go for one with no modular cables that instead comes with attached cables?

>get a real psu with 3x 8-pin if your gpu is 3x 8-pin. there's no way around it.
This is a retard take, established PSU sellers have 750 or 850W ATX 3.x/PCIe 5 units with 3x 8-pin connectors for the video card.
Just check whether the units provide enough PCIe 6+2 pin power connectors.
SeaSonic Vertex provides 3x 6+2 pin connectors for 850W or higher units; their 750W version only has 2x 6+2 pin connections.

Why the fuck do you listen to that moron against the PSU manufacturer's guidelines?
The PSU manufacturer is the one that needs to honor their 10-year warranty.

You can dispel all this bullshit by installing a different OS in a spare storage drive and checking whether your GPU crashes in that OS.
This is a better way to spend your time than listening to people who have no idea what they're talking about.

You said your PC didn't even completely shut down. That's an OS/display driver issue.
PSU protections completely power off the system when they kick in.
>>
>>107538806
Im the one witht he PSU troubles and the place that my doubts and worries is 3
1. The Quick isntall isntructions said not to use only one cable with a forked plug. The PSU has 2 cables, one forked with 2 6+2 and one with only one.
2. There are online sources that say you can power an 3x8 GPU with just a PCIe5.1 plug if you have an adapter.
3.- I'm on Linux and I've read about people just having that with Mesa drivers and the 9070xt. The crash doesnt seem connected to GPU load at all, so it might not even be a PSU issue.
>>
>>107538861
>1. The Quick isntall isntructions said not to use only one cable with a forked plug. The PSU has 2 cables, one forked with 2 6+2 and one with only one.
Because the fucking GPU manufacturer doesn't know you have a Power Zone 2 PSU, that is an above average power supply.
GPU manufacturers' instructions are written to work with unknown PSUs included in prebuilt systems.

You are a fucking moron. You wasted all this time worrying about 'muh forked cables' that the manufacturer provided for you to use.
If you want to be smart, try isolating the cause of the issue by testing the GPU in a different OS.

>>

Can you just fuck off and test your system in a different OS to isolate the cause of the problem?
Being sorry for yourself in /pcbg/ isn't going to fix your Linux system from crashing the 9070 XT.

You have an AMD Radeon driver + Linux OS issue, but the cultists in /pcbg/ gaslighted you to believe it's "PSU troubles".
Stay away from this shithole if you want unbiased advice on anything to do with AMD Radeon or Linux.
