How do I tell if a big GPU has an acceptable amount of sag? I have a free standing support with a short arm, which seems to be the perfect type since I have 3 floor fans and no space to mount the support directly underneath, but it is still not ideal. It is being held up by the motherboard side. There seems to be a very small perceptible sag on the outermost corner but it is pure eyeballing. Is that the "safe" corner to sag on or should I crank up that stand a little harder to try to pull that corner up?
>>
>>107557640
Never crank up the stand. Never pull the corner up. It's as bad as sag, sometimes even worse.
Rotate the case so GPU is vertical and adjust the stand so there is neither gap nor pressure on GPU.

windows this is usually do-able if the old install isn't too old or too weird. it's always better to clone the disk than to risk trashing your existing data, there are free tools and all for it but IDK which is best (i use paid software for this), surely some anons will tell us.

>>107558429
unless you learn how to inject Windows drivers using DISM, which you can do to your existing install when it's running before you clone or offline to the cloned disk.

if the install is really old though I prefer doing a clean install and debloat and all that crap.

That's what we just did at my workplace a few months ago, I got upgraded from an old piece of shit laptop with 4GB RAM to an old bastard laptop with 6GB RAM (slightly more usable) by just swapping the SSD from one to the other.
Interestingly everything just fucked worked? Device manager shows a few devices as unknown, but everything I've tried works just fine. Only the bluetooth doesn't but that was a known issue with the laptop, so I brought my own usb bt adapter (tp link of course).
I guess the dedicated GPU doesn't show up, but I don't need one for SSHing into Linux servers and SBC's and using CLI/TUI utilities on them.

In an absolute sense yes but probably not from a value point of view.
It has great VRM, postcode, 8-layer pcb, 5g + 10g ethernet, on-board power and reset buttons (although they are on the rear panel, I would prefer them somewhere near the postcode).

Sure, it's good. Much better than non-X3D Master, which was somewhat disappointing for 2nd highest tier motherboard.
>>107559002
Yes, it's a Gigabyte refresh of their x870e line. They are quite good, they copied the option to disable USB4 for m2 lanes from MSI, so they don't have lane sharing with GPU. Other than that they have some special boosting mode for X3D CPUs, redone BIOS and some other things. They are probably best mobos for AM5 alongside MSI MAX line currently.

>4K laptops seem to deal
i have a 4k OLED HP Spectre X360 laptop (so, 13.5" screen) that Windows defaults to 300% scaling. i also have a 4k IPS Dell 32" that Windows defaults to 150% scaling.

on the 32" at least i can still read apps that don't scale but it's not /comfy/ (i do wear glasses for reading).

the 4k on the laptop is absolutely wasted money. Yes, it looks good, images look great, but for the stuff I use it for 90% of the time it's a waste (and OLED a battery hog). It is perfect for reviewing and retouching vacation photos while traveling because the color space and resolution is excellent for that but the native 4k is not needed on such a small screen for anything else and any tool i use that does not have scaling baked into it's gui (of which there are still plenty though it's getting better) will either be inscrutably small or look like disjointed shit.

but this is all subjective - if your eyes like the way the PPI looks on a 27" for your use cases by all means enjoy one

Pretty much every board has built-in wifi now, except maybe some really cheap ones. You can just... not use it though. The Aorus Master X3D does have onboard wifi by the way. I'm actually not sure why you mentioned that.

If you are a multimillionaire who just wants to buy the best stuff without thinking too much then the Aorus Master X3D is probably fine but if money actually means something to you, you might want to think about what you actually need from a motherboard.

>2010s were dark times
kek. did moot even have curlies yet in 2010?

although we did end up talking about farts in the last thread the post is mine and the settings work in W10 and W11, the technical info is not mine, i gleaned this infos some years ago working at huge globohomo corp doing systems integration work, these settings were trickled down from server ops.

you can google it all, it's out there.

Windows defaults to generic low common denominator values for the L2/L3 caching, in the example I have large cache numbers because devbox is an old dual 18-core Xeon E5-2697 v4 box with fat L3 caches. The tweak to disable kernel paging is very much still valid but the system cache - i dunno, have not measured with modern m.2 NVME, will do that once I get all my parts (will be PCIe5 M.2 as opposed to my current PCIe 3 antiques). Was definitely relevant with SATA SSD devices.

know that if you disable the pagefile completely (i do on my workstation with 128gb) you will only get a barebones kernel dump if you do manage to trigger a fault, so you get only basic infos for analysis.

the recommended minimum RAM for doing the system cache and kernel paging tweaks is 2GB but if you are running with that little RAM you are on a headless Windows 2000 server and not doing very much with it.

none of this will give huge gains in most scenarios if you actually have lots of RAM, it's for the tweaker/tuner who knows their use case and can measure for any improvement.

>anyway it's easy enough to revert - you are making backup of the regkeys before you start fat-fingering them, right?

Nvidia is selling all their stuff to china again, and that means they use whatever tsmc capacity they get to make ai chips that sell for insanely high margins
datacenters are limited by ram situation but they want to keep building ai servers for a while, nothing lasts forever but I dont see the signs that its about to end soon

cheap gpus require excess (tsmc) chip production capacity so companies fill those slots with making gpus that dont cost a premium

The mobo is for future proofing and since I bought the RAM first before current prices + giving me 3 NVME slots before the 4th (_2) reduces my GPU to x8 (avoiding). I don't game nearly as much as I used to so I thought this would give me a quiet and flexible build for the next 8 years. That and my current case has no CPU back plate access so I can finally not have to fuck with removing the entire mobo anymore too potentially.

I have money that I'm not using because everything else is paid for at the moment.
Half that shit is panic buying and not being able to stay on /g/ for hours a day to keep up with being a smart buyer.
When I saw RAM go north of $500 I bought them and then worked backwards.

Also I only need a 5070 Ti because I only have 1080p monitors, getting older and I only play various games.

Also, with my storage setup (using 2x6TB WD Blacks for storage i.e. music and movies that will not be constantly moved or edited) will I be noticing that much of an apparent difference in OS between the NVME and MLC SATA? I focused on features reliability and getting 8 years or more out of this setup since I probably won't care about more grafrix. I cared more about noise since Im all messed up and I don't like the idea of AIO, the last one I had I had to replace due to pump failing and it scared the shit out of me when it hit max thermals one night. I like to set and forget.

Shift is one of the quietest on the market per charts, and other comparable stats to like the FSP Hydro 1000w. I paid extra for the side ports and Corsairs warranty -- they treated me well in the past for warranty.

I don't care I overpaid $1k. I can always fix the GPU situation later if I change my mind and I'm getting old enough with fuck you money while having all my other shit paid off.
If I'm not on 1440p it doesn't matter yet, maybe I'll revisit my GPU+monitors in 2 years once things calm down.

>will I be noticing that much of an apparent difference in OS between the NVME and MLC SATA

NVME will whip the SATA drives ass every which way from Sunday for any sustained read or write operations so boot and shutdown will be faster, installing things will be faster, load times for /gaymes/ will be faster, "productivity" e.g. loading up your exquisitely detailed Excel fursuit collection tracking spreadsheet gets a boost - all of it.

it's newer tech after all, designed to be the next thing after SATA bottlenecked SSDs.

this is 100% dependent on the motherboard, you have to try it. The best case scenario is that the board can run all of the RAM at the speed/timings of the slowest stick and be stable, the worst case is that it will crash/be unstable. The in-between state could be that it runs them all and is stable but does this at some weird low speed/timings.

If you're worried it will corrupt your boot drive prep a memtest86 USB boot and make that your first boot after installing the RAM, you were going to test it anyway, right?

It's still a solid upgrade card. No shit a brand new card isn't going to work amazingly if the rest of the build is still ancient. Use your brain, man. No card is going to work well with Skylake besides ones released during and prior to the era of Skylake. Budget builds still exist without reusing decade old ewaste and pretending it's viable.

It's a good budget card that hovers relatively near MSRP, but it's still a dGPU brand that's in its infancy with some kinks to work out. It still hasn't had a B770/B780 big brother card released either. GPU news has been kind of dead for a long while anyway.

RAM and SSD prices will never go back to normal.
Prices will eventually stop climbing but given that the prices for these things have jumped up so much and people bought it at those prices companies will think those prices are the norm. It's never going to go back down to $200-$300 for a 64GB RAM kit anymore, or a $120 for a 1TB NVMe.
And when they eventually make something faster companies will think that since it's faster and newer it should be more expensive than the old one.
PC building is honestly dead to the regular consumers. Best bet is to buy used in 2028.

Planning just to throw it in a pc I saw with a 5700x, 6gb 1060 (which I'll probably use as a secondary GPU for lossless scaling or sell) and a 800w power supply for some reason. the gpu temp is somewhat irrelevant since theres variables in the gpus configs. Some run higher clocks and some have fans going slower causing less noise.

Teamgroup are another option, but the one time i tried their SSD's (their ram is fine), it died on me in 3 months and i lost all the data. Samsung first, then Crucial, then Kingston in priority, and HURRY.

1. You can't verify data integrity
2. Connectors are only rated for a certain amount of plugging in/out.
Go use cold storage for one big drive. But once you start getting to 50TB or more then it becomes impractical.
>>
Who the fuck has more than 10TB of storage anyways?
Stop LARPING as a data center.

Do not delete your favorite porn.
Your future self will thank you.
Hot chicks in 2025 have plenty of other ways to make money than hardcore porn.
The pool of great porn actresses is getting smaller.

When Newegg shoved your GPU in a box of the same dimensions

6 lbs of shit in a 5 lb bag

Should be fine but I document everything until I get all my parts and start the build on a Saturday

6000 34 does not look like a guarantee hynix
I think they need to be 6400c32 or 6000c30 like the last kit
but you can always check lists for first kit what is the product number thingy

I was at a retailer and people were returning a tv with a cracked screen
I told them niggas to always record unboxings
the retailcucks ask how do they transport it, how did they unbox it and so on and so forth
yeah if you don't wanna get cucked, record unboxing
althought that looks too minor to care

>>
>>107564999
Fun fact, the ones making the product (in your case MSI) are the ones responsible for proper packaging of the item It's their job to make sure the item inside (GPU) is properly packaged. It is not the vendor's job to do so. The vendor's job is to only protect the OUTSIDE box.
I used to work in a shipping warehouse. We ship all kinds of items with minimal packaging all the time.

Tell me gentleman, Is it worth building a pc atm or at least buying everything minus ram? I've been using the same pc for the past 10 years (minus the 2tb SSD I got after my HDD started to fail). I've never had a drive to upgrade since I was never interested in any of the more demanding games that came out, and my steam deck held me over for some of the mid range games. Now that ai is becoming a concern, is it smart to upgrade now before things get worse or just wait?
>>
>>107564991
6000cl34-44-44 is a bin that's probably exclusively micron rev. D while 6400 cl30-36-36 is high binned Hynix a-die

You answered your own question.
>Now that ai is becoming a concern, is it smart to upgrade now before things get worse or just wait?
Don't upgrade for the sake of upgrading. Upgrade for a good reason.

we are back
I looked around and due to cheap ram finds and other parts put together a 5090 + 9800x3d build can still land on 3600€ due to finding cheaper ram and cheaper 5090s still
this is the last chance, after this it's all over

What's the point? A non-operational PC to look at as the prices continue to rise well into 2027?

If your RAM ever seems to be taking forever, did you remember to turn it off and on again?

Would a 9950x3d be meaningfully more future proof for gaming than a 9800x3d, or does the 2 CCD design always hamstring it even in a future where games could use the threads?

Just as long as you know that the 5080 is just that in name only and is really a 5070 in spec and performance

if you're slowly building a PC, and I really mean slowly, might take years, hunting for deals, is getting a mobo with pci express 5 the most future proof component right now along with a PSU with a nice amount of wattage?
im asking this because new GPU models release every year, some are trash, well nowadays a lot seem to be trash or super expensive, so maybe it's better to buy the GPU for last?
>>
>>107565328
that is stupid
>>
>>107565328
Your warranty starts ticking down the moment you buy a part so that's a really bad idea
