Should I get a 9070xt, 5070ti or spend a lot more and get a 5080?
It costs more than double the price of 9070xt in my country.

Definetly 9070 XT, same performance as 5070 ti which is now much more expensive. And then if you also get a ryzen cpu with it (9850x3d door buster sale is on newegg today starting in I think an hour or less) you get the advantage of an all AMD pc with smart access memory silicon level optimizations
https://www.amd.com/en/gaming/technologies/smart-technologies.html
>>
>>108145686
9070XT is only good if it is cheap. It's really not a card you should be spending more the MSRP for.
It's a budget card, not really a quality product.

I have 4 chassis fans and they're working now. I had the auto fan disable thing turned on which keeps the case fans off when under very low load e.g. when watching YouTube or whatever.

with current day drivers the 5070ti loses to the 9070xt and the 9070xt loses to the 7900xtx

HDD in 2026 is a bad idea unless you have a specific use case which requires it. I got rid of my last HDD recently and my PC is so much quieter now. I added some extra fans, and optimised the air flow so I have a quiet but cool PC now. All for zero money spent (aside from the SSD upgrade).

I mean you already have the most expensive parts right there. If you want a spare pc just to have a spare, then get a simple power supply, case and cooler and you'll be set. I plan on doing the same thing with some of my old parts so my parents don't have to rely on a dogshit all in one computer anymore.
>>
>>108145968
How's the performance if you don't disable half the features of the card?
>>
>>108146037
I managed to get a sick deal on a 2TB gen 4 drive so I'm set for a while. I already had an sn850x 1tb game drive from when they were still cheap, and a Samsung sata SSD from years back as a Windows boot drive. Getting rid of my HDD actually allowed me to dismantle the drive bays which are under the floor at the front of my case which, when dismantled, allows for a 3rd intake fan or a radiator. So getting rid of the HDD was a net positive for me in several ways.
>>
>>108146040
I'd honestly rather use a slow nvme than a HDD at this point even if it costs a bit more. The noise difference is noticeable even in my "silent" case which has some sound deafening material on the panels.
>>

By comparison the 9070XT gets about 55fps.

Basically. 9070XT is fine for older games that only use rasterisation.
But modern games with DLSS, Ray tracing and whatever, it just can't do it very well.

I have an 88-105W CPU and a 250-275W GPU, what's the most cost-effective case, case fan, and CPU cooler that can effectively keep this kind of system below 70-80C in the summer with indoor room temperatures of 35-40C without having to spin the fans more than 1200 RPM?

I rely on 1-2 hard drives, at least 2 SATA SSD's, and a 5.25" bay for my SD card reader.

Until amd gets their shit together they aren't worth buying at all imo. A 5070 will be able to play older dlss games with better image quality thanks to the override. Amd fumbled by only allowing for upgradable .dll's with fsr3.1 which like 5 games support. Also redstone is still broken. If you play competitive games or ever want to use frame gen then nvidia reflex is basically a must at this point and amd still hasn't caught up in this regard.

On the case I'm looking at only 1 of the 120mm fans would be positioned behind the CPU on a dual-tower cooler, so I'm wondering how much re-circulation would be an issue with 2 in the front trying to intake air.

I noticed that with a single 140mm fan as exhaust on top behind a dual tower cooler, I can feel more air being dragged in than with a 120mm fan at 5V placed in front of it.

Also, trust me on this, it will cost you more money but this will prevent fan rattle AND case hum (minus any HDD, that's another topic)
Use this with Noctua OR other quality fans
https://www.noctua.at/en/products/na-sav4
https://www.noctua.at/en/products/na-sav3

The versions are for how you need the end to fit under something or if the fans have space between each side of the screw holes or not

Silicone plugs instead of screws will mitigate all that vibration from turning your case into a speaker due to sympathetic vibrations

Hello, new to building but this is the kit I have currently it was made with earlier bad decisions. However, it's what I have and the cpu is old enough I am looking for a modest upgrade.

CPU: Intel i7-8700 3.2Ghz
GPU: GeForce RTX 4070
Ram: 32 Gb DDR4
Motherboard: Asus Prime H310 - Plus
Storage:
932 GB SSD Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 1TB.
932 GB HDD WDC
112 GB SSD WDC
Country: U.S
Price: 600-800$

Buy a DDR4 1700 board and a 12700k. They were really cheap for a while but the price is creeping. A year and a half ago I bought a 12900ks for $230.

Watch for deals on Newegg but if you want reliable and good warranty I'd suggest SanDisk (formerly WD Black) or Samsung or Crucial (pending stock since they're exiting the consumer market)
but yeah prices are quadrupled

I've been looking into rickets. So in Korea they have congenital rickets. Genetic predisposition is a big part of rickets. In addition, studies tracking the curing of rickets lacked control groups. The interventions for kids with rickets historically can't be investigated, and are really just stories (did the doctors also supply these poor families with other food? Was sugar given to the kids?)

If it's a laptop then I'm only going to suggest Gen 4 as it's not going to be worth the money to go Gen 5
Also, does the laptop have space for a heatsink version? I'm assuming not but I'd take a pic too
Faster reads and writes (i.e. Gen 5) make hotter NVMEs
But laptops typically can't hold the heatsink versions so I would avoid

may be working at gunpoint in a bot farm, paid shill/bot farm, lone schizo, etc. the shitposters rarely ever just tags the OP and asks for it to be updated or changed as asked for in the second part of the sticky. they also resort to things like ad hominem, racism, cherry picked benchmarks, false information, etc. and one of my favorite things is the lone post tagging no one but responding to some previous reply to whatever argument it felt it was losing or with a one-liner just to flood the vapid minds of the unwashed masses with <specific vendors products>. the shitposters necropost old tropes to flood the threads and bump post counts e.g. random garbage questions that any /noob/ would just google or disingenuous descriptions of problems that are copypasta with a few words changed in them. Single line, low-quality posts are often the copypasta. Most recently the OP appears to be trying a super stealth approach - creating the OP with only "subtle" alterations like "-Avoid Nvidia Due To Possible Melting Connectors & Driver Problems", and griefing /g/ by creating and self deleting the thread after a short while.

Whatever. Just get your /pcbg/ on.

Can someone explain to me how "PCIe lanes" work on a motherboard.

I have the MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk motherboard, and I want to use a WD_BLACK SN8100 with it.
I know that motherboard has PCIe 5.0 slot. But it also has multiple SSD slots.
If I put in more than one nvme SSD do I lose speed on my gen 5 WD_BLACK SN8100?

Explain it to me like I'm a retard.

Anything around 7k read/write with good random read will be great. Cheap gen5 runs hot and cool gen5 is expensive. 7k to 14k r/w is not really noticeable by casual users, especially because the gen5 drives can only sustain those huge r/w for a limited amount of time before dropping to a lower speed when their cache’s fill up. It’s still technically faster but the advertised speeds are usually burst speeds and not sustained speeds.

>I see "PCI_E3 slot will run at x2 speed".
>But does that address my question of "will multiple SSDs slow down the lane speed?"
if you wanna run something in the pci e3 slot at 4x you have to disable the m2 slot

"*PCI_E3 slot will run at x2 speed when installing device in the M2_3 slot. You can switch PCI_E3 slot to x4 in the BIOS, but this will disable the M2_3 slot."

so on that nvme slot you can run up to a PCIe 4.0 x2 speed, which is something like a PCIe Gen3 drive at full speed or some shit, too lazy to look it up

so on this mobo you can run

2x full speed Gen5 nvme + one full speed Gen4 nvme + one full speed gen 3 nvme if im reading this shit correctly

>>108147417
Also was gonna say this since for most low effort question, assuming that AI is not fucking up

it should not slow down though, either you run 2x + 4x or you disable the 2x and use the pcie slot instead on the mobo

so seems ai made a small fuck up
>>

>>
>>108147426
>so on this mobo you can run
>2x full speed Gen5 nvme + one full speed Gen4 nvme + one full speed gen 3 nvme if im reading this shit correctly
Isn't that exactly what the AI says?

Also, my brain got confused by 2x speed. As I assumed the base was 1x speed. Meaning it would run twice as fast. I didn't realize that 4x speed was the top speed, and 2x was at half speed.
>>

but you cant disable the pcie slot and get 4x on the nvme

Use slot 3 and 4 for Gen 4

That's why I linked mobo maps it shows PCIe pathways and chipsets

Just storage
If you only have 1 NVME slot for storage on laptop then use the 8tb and use your 1tb as the OS (if theres anothr slot) --- if not and only truly 1 NVME slot available, use the 1tb in a USB 3.1/3.2 enclosure - make sure it has thermal pads to transfer the heat to the enclosure case
Now you have a super fast external storage if you run it off the USB-C (i.e 3.1=5G iirc and 3.2=10G USB)

Slicing can be a bit demanding. Complicated models and plates with multiple models can take a minute or two on my 9800X3D.

Something like this for example, you're taking a polygonal model and converting it into instructions that a toolhead has to move along, and then doing that for 498 layers stopping occasionally to change the filament 564 times, with each layer having different geometry and different filament changes. It also has to consider the layer below it, as the tool head needs to slow down for overhanging spots.
It also has to consider what areas need to be supported, and how big these supports need to be and where they can fit on the bed.

So, your computer has to calculate how a machine is going to move and operate for the next 2 days and 6 hours. And that takes a few minutes to figure out. But a faster CPU helps.

As for X3D. No idea. Nobody really benchmarks this stuff. I'd assume probably not.

>>
>>108148375
on paper that's about 30% improvement
if you have a specific game that you want to mostly run and want to upgrade mostly just for that purpose, I would first look into reports on how that game runs on that gpu
generally, I wouldn't buy anything less than a 5060ti / 9060xt with 16gb vram to run most stuff at 1080 or 1440p smoothly

also as >>108148379 wrote
better get an earlier gen i7 that uses ddr4, which is better performance for less price, especially with the prices for ddr5 currently

I just read it's possible to connect 2dp cables to the same monitor to have enough bandwith to avoid compression at 4k with only dp1.4 connections on the monitor

>>
>>108148671
Your GPU is backwards.
>>
>>108148218
Arc B580 is about a 1.5 gen iimprovement over the rx 6600, it's probably not worth the upgrade unless you're getting a great deal. Just get a i7-11700k or whatever the best reasonably priced CPU your motherboard will support (otherwise get the best CPU MBO combo that can make use of your current RAM) and that will get you on a a more expensive current gen entry level gpu without much of a bottleneck. Either a 9060XT or a 5060ti.

>>108148379
i7-12700k is a better CPU than a 14th gen non-K i5 and generally more expensive. The 12600K is on par as is the Core Ultra 225.
>>
>>108148464
imo: frame > lancool > purebase

It looks like the frame has best over all open air flow and front intake. Lancool has the interesting front psu with the fans under the gpu drawing air from below but this eliminates 1/3 of the front intake compared to the frame. The last one looks like it lags behind both.

I just had the worst week ever of owning a pc. My 5070 ti finally arrived that I back ordered on best buy a month ago and it was nothing but hell once I installed that piece of shit. Weird artifacts even just on the windows desktop, microstutters everytime I opened any ui menu in the OS, etc. I reinstalled windows and these issues persisted. Coming from a 5700xt I was not expecting the nvidia drivers to be even worse than my old card was at launch. Thankfully due to the shortage I've been able to sell it on Facebook marketplace for all my money back and I got a 9070 XT instead now, everything works great again

I still can't believe I got this. Kinda hyped. I've never had a best-of-the-best CPU before. My current one is over 10 years old.

This was the first time I've ever tried to get a Newegg Doorbuster deal.
$400 for the CPU.
Plus a free $70 game, and $30 duster.
If I sell those I basically got 9850X3D for $300

The specific use case is long term local storage of large amounts of data. SSDs are way too expensive for this and not large enough capacity. Why spend $5,000 to store 5x8TB of data if you could just get 2x20TB for $900?

>>
>>108149970
Since 4.0 pretty much nothing. It's a little slower in specific use cases but for 90% of your day it's imperceptible. The discourse around nvmes is weird because they're all extremely fast for everything at the consumer level. General brand reliability aside, the closest thing to be wary of is QLC, and even that functions fine for storage.
>>
just got a mortgage to pay for my ram
>>
>>108149970
No dedicated on-drive RAM. So it's vastly slower.
Takes multiple steps more to read/write data operations. Meaning it's going to burn out faster due to just having to process more whenever you use it.

The only nvidia gpus worth money are the 3090, 4090, and 5090, plus a few a bit down, depending, like the 5080 is obviously more powerful than anything amd offers. The 5070 realm is difficult.
