Report all flamewarring, trolling, spamming posts. Long live /pcbg/!

Post your /pcbg/ anyway but know that we have enraged the amdshitposter to the degree that he has vowed to shit up this thread with trash with the goal of killing it.

remain vigilant, /pcbg/, report in silence, and above all - have fun.

Spotting the shitposters: the shitposters may be working at gunpoint in a bot farm, paid shill/bot farm, lone schizo, etc. the shitposters rarely ever just tags the OP and asks for it to be updated or changed as asked for in the second part of the sticky. they also resort to things like ad hominem, racism, cherry picked benchmarks, false information, etc. and one of my favorite things is the lone post tagging no one but responding to some previous reply to whatever argument it felt it was losing or with a one-liner just to flood the vapid minds of the unwashed masses with <specific vendors products>. the shitposters necropost old tropes to flood the threads and bump post counts e.g. random garbage questions that any /noob/ would just google or disingenuous descriptions of problems that are copypasta with a few words changed in them. Single line, low-quality posts are often the copypasta. Most recently the OP appears to be trying a super stealth approach - creating the OP with only "subtle" alterations like "-Avoid Nvidia Due To Possible Melting Connectors & Driver Problems", griefing /g/ by creating and self deleting the thread after a short while, deleting the OP img, shilling native vs upscaling, etc.

Are we really in the last days/months of us regular consuming goyim to have access to large storage? Or will there be any return to normalcy after the bubble bursts. I just don't see any scenario, especially for the home computing tech industry, to ever adjust for us again outside of decades of catastrophic systemic collapse of the current industries.

I managed to get allowed to take home a synology ds418 with 4x 6TB HDD's from my work which was literally never used just sat in a box for 3-4 years, and I started a push to consolidate my own stuff/back it up which amounted to like 2-3TB, and now have started a push for archiving/data hoarding for my increasingly doomer views and its pushed me down the homelabbing/self hosting setups.

Besides this NAS I also took home an old precision workstation that was used on one of the CNC mills, it's old but solid and I put mint on it and have about 6TB of storage on it. But generally I'm just starting to host a few things off of it and just use it for mass torrenting/archiving before moving it to the NAS.

Is it really dire enough that I should drop $700-$800 or so to grab a couple 16-20TB HDD's now to secure my immediate data fiending. I feel like I'm going to fill up my usable 11TB on the synology pretty quickly. Am I just getting cucked by alarmist rhetoric or is it this truly the end of affordable home computing

it's pretty clear that massive, sprawling models that need immense amounts of compute are just a sympton of trying too hard to fake ai's knowing how to do things. They will slim down considerably when it's no longer just about trying to sell the capabilities of the tech but about optimizing profits and specialization.

>Are we really in the last days/months of us regular consuming goyim to have access to large storage?

Interedasting question, I mean it's still out there and being developed for datacenter storage because the cost per byte is lowest, but will the new stuff trickle down at "affordable" prices for the consoomer? Difficult to prognosticate for the long term.

If you buy Noctua then buy a PP Sx2 set as it shaves off a few dollars and follow this guide (i.e. put the LNA resistor on the A fan if side by side to avoid beat pulse)
https://www.noctua.at/en/expertise/tech/fan-speed-offset-explained
>dual fan sets as well as with the NH-D15 G2 CPU cooler are slightly offset in speed in order to avoid such phenomena. With one fan running ~50rpm slower (PPA) and one ~50rpm faster (PPB) in the case of the NF-A12x25 G2 fans, and ~25rpm slower (PPA) and one ~25rpm faster (PPB) in the case of the NF-A14x25(r) G2 fans, the overall cooling performance can be kept the same while efficiently preventing intermittent vibrations or periodic humming
This can also be applied to other fans if you have resistors or set max rpm lower individually in BIOS (maybe- haven't tested myself)

Bros, I've made the difficult choice on the last day of my return window to send back this Pure Base 600. It is a glorious, quiet, and comfy case with great compatibility for an all-in-one workstation user like myself... but I just can't ignore the lack of airflow even if I'd be "fine" for most cases just by undervolting my 8-core Ryzen CPU or my upcoming 5070 when I really do the laminar flow test.

Finding a way to cheese an extra 120mm fan on top for intake while keeping the 140mm exhaust definitely helps CPU temperatures and the idle noise profile is the quietest I've ever experienced (especially at containing the buzzing Toshiba MG series drives), but I don't know. I'm just not ready to commit to this, and it is a price chassis when I could probably just modify my existing junk with pads or get a different case.

If I was someone with something like a smol 5060 and an i3, I'd probably be in heaven with this case and just put it in and forget about it. Maybe I'll buy it again sometime later if it doesn't go EOL, I would have painted it white or beige maybe if I don't keep it the elegant silver and black.

If they made a full tower version of this case, it'd probably fix everything, even if it would also kill the epic space-efficiency of the design.
>>
>>108156133
I appreciate the suggestion, but I'm not a millionaire, and populating the case with Noctua fans would cost like $400.

My ~10yo prebuilt pc broke and I suspect the ssd gave out. I took it apart and when I did it became very clear that the pc was made to not be disassembled. Is there a good reason to not just get a new ssd and keep the guts outside? Im not putting them back in. I dont want to upgrade Im just wondering if for instance a 10yo power supply is prone to failure or something and I should just upgrade anyway. Im also thinking about putting linux on it but ive heard that the gtx 1080 doesnt mesh with wayland and id like to use KDE which is wayland only now?

They last 15 years
And if not, like I said, just use their advice and put resistors on other fans to avoid sympathetic beat pulse
Just buy a set of their LNA resistors and use on the Fractal or Artic fans
also consider Noctua's PWM redux fans - cheaper but they aren't as HQ as the mainline and also don't come with the frills

I need to relearn opticals. Are opticals still ideal to be SATA? Bc I can always convert my last SATA port to an ESATA via one of my PCIe slots with a cable adapter. I used to do that with my old PC, but I sort of want to regain optical access so I can also watch my Blu-ray on my PC as well maybe.

If things can be patched or flashed or etc via USB 3.0/+ then I'll be ecstatic to get away from eSATA and work with my 5G/10G USB with a new HDD dock (3.1+ for my cold storage). I don't have space or care for an internal .

Also, odd, I'm 21 C but I yield 43C idle. Same heatsink. I went standard, no LBC. Same? Maybe I got lucky on my binnage. Also curious, did you use the included paste shield (the plastic contact thing)?

I FEEL LIKE A RETARD FOR NOT FOLLOWING THE VOLTAGE OFFSET GUIDE FOR THE 3700X ON YOUTUBE ALL THESE YEARS, HOLY SHIT THIS IS LITERAL MAGIC.

Literally drops 10c running Prime95 Small FFTs on the PS120, the fans are barely audible above background levels. Granted I'm only running this solo given my 280X shit the bed today attempting an undervolt, but still god damn. I have no idea why I tried all core OC voltages instead of just doing the manual PBO and vcore/soc offset.

60c at full CPU load on an airflow constricted case like the Pure Base 600 is INSANE, even if it is winter so 19-21c ambient room temperature (so a 40c delta). Makes me wonder if I should bother returning this case at all if I can also undervolt my 5070 just as well. I didn't test my 3060 Ti undervolted to 150W after all, ran both CPU and GPU at full power.

You're gonna love the white/purple plaid screens of doom on boot I dealt with today when my not 7970 crashed Furmarking a -100mv undervolt attempt after a few minutes, I think it fucked something in the VBIOS or something because uninstalling Afterburner (which does not load profiles by default) didn't do anything along with uninstalling the AMD driver with DDU and their cleanup utility, I suspect this is because I didn't use their sofware for voltage control perhaps and it corrupted something. Either way, installing a driver now instantly results in a crash on loading to the Windows desktop. So that GPU is fugged now. That's 4 GPUs fucked in one week now, lol.

Some nerd did a whitepaper study I read years ago that debunked this. IIRC the gist of it was that so long as the overall system has CPU voltages/current draw/thermals in spec it did not matter whether the system ran full load all the time or start-stop loading.

That's almost certainly what it is. Your actual die temps are quite low (upper 30s). The IOD is likely being kept on due to your memory OC, and since the way Ryzen reports temps, it is reporting the IOD hotspot, not your core temps. So your memory OC is making your idle temps look high, when they're actually not (at least not on the CPU cores).

And ~54C and 1.15V on the memory controller (CPU VDDCR_SOC Voltage) is perfectly healthy, so it's nothing at all to worry about.

Good to know, thanks.

Yeah like I said, i've had over 30 days of uptime with zero issues and i've never seen my CPU temps break 89C and that was in a stress test, normal heavy use keeps it closer to 80-82C, and regular gaming is ~68-74C. (GPU temps are 71-75C at 99% use).

It helps i've got a ton of airflow in my case, though it does end up dumping a ton of heat into the room.

>Anon...what are you doin
I was gonna benchmark the Pure Bass 600 with my 3060 Ti, but I wanted to undo the deshroud mod to check the airflow difrence. BUT, I then suddenly wanted to disassemble the card to see if a repaste can improve my temps since it's been 4 years, then I fuck around with a wrench and scratch up the area around the standoff, I get a floss to cut through the stuck die and coldplate, but then I realized that my earlier attempt to screw the heatsink back on broke the screw head and left it stuck inside of the standoff.

So fast forward, I grab my old GPUs from the shelves they've been wandering around. 980 Ti? Perfect candidate to test a 5070's viability in this case, too bad it still crashes exceeding 30% D3D load.

No problem, 290X time. Never failed me, need to repaste it probably after all these years though even if it had MX4 when I first bought it I think.
>also stuck, but I can't use the floss method to unstuck the heatsink
Fine, I'll screw everything back on, nothing broke there. Flipped a vbios switch, will flip it back.
>no picture on either monitor, resolution changes after testing with another card, it's just braindead and doesn't even post
>mfw
So I stick the old 280X in, the one which which burned in the summer. Repasted it, in it goes, immediate artifacts as before. Putting a pencil to stop the dramatic sag (holy shit I've never seen sag that bad on a GPU, what not reinforcing the PCB does I imagine, but MSI PCBs also suck huge titties and are flimsy). And then, that. Yeah. So yeah, 3060 Ti, 290X, 280X, 980 Ti, all with problems. Shame I can't send them all to Northwestrepair.

depends on what you want to do
there are 240hz QD-OLEDs for about 1k with dp2.1 for 4K without compression, which have almost perfect colors and seem to be pretty much as good as monitors will ever get and are near perfect at everything
alternatively there are tons of IPS 4K monitors with decent enough contrast or reaction times and plenty of hz for somewhere around 200 to 300, which are great for gaming, but don't have the best visuals for watching movies / visual productivity work
if you just want to do office work, there are probably some cheaper ones as well

Bullshit, they were complaining about AI driving up cloud storage prices only a year or 2 ago. Why the sudden change?

Because they're forcing you to use the cloud systems they provide while securing the scarce local storage resources. I'd say these AI corps are just trying to artificially drive up prices to drive people to their AI systems so they can get more and more data. That's what is driving this "bubble".
I say bubble because soon they won't get any data at this rate and these AI will become completely useless without it. This is called greed. Funny how they don't get why it's a sin.

So my SSD is somehow unclone-able with clonezilla and slows my PC to a halt despite not being the boot drive. Normally when a drive dies, it doesn't impact the pc much unless it's the boot drive... so why are things coming to a crawl here?

Surely one would want the people in the other to have cheaper chips to ruin the monopoly of that state right?
And yet this doesn't happen. It's bizarre.

It's like they don't understand how to actually compete with each other and are just blindly focused on the threat their own citizens bring to their monopoly in their own country.
Even if they were a true global monopoly, it makes no sense to me. That's a single point of weakness and it would impact the demand for all sorts of things eventually. Madness, pure madness.

But then again, nobody pays attention to proper economics anymore because of AI. :^)

Perfect I got solutions for you
1. Full power down and unplug PC
1.B - discharge the PC with power button
1.C - unplug the SATA cable to the SSD
1.D reboot and have PC on for 10-15 minutes
1.E shut down again. Discharge. Unplug SSD fully. Wait a second. Then fully hook back up to PC like normal.

I'd also suggest you giving us CrystalDiskInfo screenshot of the health of the disk

2. If that doesn't work try Samsung magician to see if firmware update

3. Try unplug and replug in the SSD while the PC is completely on - if #1 doesn't work -- relates again to controller symptoms issue.

4. Fuck with windows --- Disable "Link State Power Management" or "Intel VMD".

Like you said the previous owner could've fucked with power state settings -- I hope you don't have sleep enabled and also have it disabled in BIOS
>>
>>108158157
To clarify # 1 -- when I say unplug SATA I meant JUST the SATA cord, leave the power cord in
For #3 I mean unplug Both power and SATA cable
>>
>>108158157
That's literally what I was thinking of doing.
I think I did that with a HDD in the past and just worked.

Problem: it's a laptop. You can't turn on an ssd with just power on a laptop like that.
I tried pluggin it into another laptop with usb to sata though. No luck I think because it started having the same issue.
>>
>>108158183
Find a desktop. See, when you withhold info you really make it hard.

Check you windows power settings bro. Check that first and see if the owner fucked with what I mentioned about Link Power or sleep or shit with the SATA controllers or chipset

Currently on a 3700X with 32GB of RAM (2 sticks died wtf) and 5700XT. I was thinking about a 9950X(3D) but then I have to upgrade the motherboard and worse, pay lots of money for DDR5 also. Then I would later get a new video card, probably 7900XTX or something. Would this upgrade (without the card) be worth the performance upgrade?
Or should I just go with the 7900XTX first + a new monitor and then upgrade the rest later? I use AI denoise a lot so the 7900XTX would be great with its 24GB of VRAM.

Think of it this way. Your shader cache lives in your driver folder and your driver folder is on your C drive and your NVME drive is connected to your CPU lane instead of chipset. It would be faster for the game to access the cache right there instead of having to interrupt whatever its doing to tell the slower chipset to give it what it wants.

The seller has a multi-item listing, the $336 is probably a GTX 1030 from his list, and the 4090 is going to be $5000 or something. They do that to make you click.
