I bought an 870 ssd for my older PC that can't take NVME ssd and I think the seller sent me a chinese counterfeit.
Can't get samsung to verify it as authentic no matter what I do. I have another 990 pro I bought that shows up as authentic.
Is it worth keeping a chinese fake if it was $200 or will it break down in a couple months?

Then put the motherboard in the case
Then PSU and thread all its cables through the case and plug them in, cable managing as you go
Finally the GPU

Depends on the case really.
But if there's enough room to work, motherboard goes in first.

The first thing you need to do is fill it up completely and test if the data is corrupted or not with any software that tests SSD/HDDs. Firmware faking the size is the most basic of the scams.

It's good to do a test boot before you install the motherboard inside the case.

If you're building an AM5 PC, it might take a few minutes for the initial memory training to complete and boot to BIOS.
>>

There's no single go-to motherboard, but many have been buying the B850 or X870(E) Tomahawk.
If you're used a different vendor's BIOS, it's fine to get a different brands'.
But ASRock and ASUS boards to a lesser extent has been associated with more dead AM5 CPUs.

not anon, but DF is a game where you lose a lot, and after you figure out how to survive against absolute "FUN!!!!" without just building a wall and hiding, you basically need to inflict difficulty onto yourself. That could go a couple ways, like starting wars with random civilizations, but I can't help but feel like surviving "FUN!!!!" is harder than surviving a Siege from any race, since you already have highly trained dwarfs that can kill "FUN!!!", except the "FUN!!!!" that just kills your dwarfs no matter what.
And dieing and restarting is the fun part, you don't actually want a fortress that lasts 10+ years unless you are doing some sort of megaproject. The UI is terrible. And to win against "FUN!!!" you need to spend too much time reading the wiki for figuring out jobs and military...
But I'm a min maxer.
Mewgenics is a autism game with a progression system, but I cringe at watching other people play because it's made for min-maxer's. If you can't optimize your gameplay and steamroll, you won't like the game, and it's a huge time sink (DF is a bigger time sink however).
If you want a dumb puzzle game, I liked railbound. Danganropa is good investigation puzzle game visual novel.
>>
All these fancy builds and I'm planning a butcherbox maybe on par with cloud anon. I'm still between a 20" box fan or a 14" vornado fan. Big is great but the hole needed for it will not be clean and have structure running across it. Plus the box fan is only a three speed while vornado is a four speed and is fucking silent on low. I already have an arduino working for both cases. Although I don't know how I'll do the filters for the vornado. Maybe still just a coof cube that I was planning for the box fan just stuck over the vornado encasing it.

>Vincent is a high-precision inkjet printing equipment for QD-OLED panel production. It is used in the production of high-resolution TV and monitor displays. QD inkjet equipment is used to form QDCF during the display manufacturing process. This method involves finely spraying QD ink, a mixture of quantum dot material and a special solvent, onto the panel substrate to form a color conversion layer. During this process, the ink is sprayed into ultra-fine droplets, each measuring picoliter (one trillionth of a liter).

>High-resolution display panels consist of hundreds of millions of pixels. Inkjet equipment must precisely spray ultra-fine ink droplets, each pixel thick, roughly half the width of a human hair. Even the slightest error can result in blurring or uneven brightness, making equipment precision a key competitive advantage.

>Vincent has secured the productivity necessary for large-scale panel processing by equipping over 100 QD ink-spraying heads. The resolution has been raised to 220 ppi (pixels per inch), a roughly 30% improvement over previous models.
Current QD-OLEDs max out at 163PPI for 4K/27" panels or ~110PPI for the 1440p -Ultrawides with V-Strip RGB subpixels coming later this year.
Hopefully this equipment in Samsung's hands will mean retina-class OLED monitors like that 5K 27" model demo'd at last CES next year. They need to answer LG's 27K 4K RGB-Tandem Panel coming out later this year and the low-ppi ultrawide won't cut it for text clarity.

I really can't tell if the whole consumer tech crisis is because explosive datacenter buildout actually needs the hardware, or they are all strategically buying hardware en masse to prevent their competition from acquiring it.
Because it felt like that OpenAI deal was the first major event in it, even if things were already going up slightly, and supposedly a lot of it is just going to to warehouses for now.

Normal, functioning members of society are people like doctors, lawyers, oil rig workers, road sweepers, farmers.

These people work 24/7 basically and they do not have enough seconds in the day, yet alone hours to waste playing genshin impact or zenless zone zero, or even shit like elden ring or call of duty.

"PC gaming" is an extremely niche hobby and realistically, it should be an exclusive thing for affluent people who can afford it

unfortunately, youtubers and other socialites assumed they are "entitled" to an epic desktop setup with an all-white build, white widescreen monitor, desk, rgb lights and their own "creative studio" to showcase their fucking worthless existence

Seems like everything is a meme, as the monitor I've returned was a 34" ultrawide OLED. Immersion in games is alright, looks pretty nice, however I rarely game nowadays and I think 16:9 with huge resolution is better for desktop work, including web browsing. Also, I have only one functioning eye, so if I wanted to see everything in the ultrawide, then I'd even have to move my neck, which sucks. Current monitor I use is a 1440p 27" OLED and it feels okay for both games and work, so I was wondering if I could get a 4K then maybe I'm better with that than an ultrawide with "limited" use.

I though upscaling works like you set your native resolution in a game, turn on FSR / DLSS and it upscales an image to you, but your HUD and stuff stays in native res. So alt-tabbing shouldn't take too much time, because the resolution is the same, however it's different story with different refresh rates.

Mining is not much of a concern since it's controlled environment, heavy undervolting and lots of air movement is included.

The concern is Nvidia chip and aib quality, otherwise there is nothing to worry about.

Add scalpers, scammers, stripped cards to the market and getting a 3090 seems risky. Just find a normal looking person and run tests on the card before you buy it.

So I've had my new pc for about a month now. It's in one of those nice cases with glass panels to display the inside but I'm finally noticing the fatal flaw with this case style. From this video: 1440p, DLSS Balanced, RT on, 2x FG, results in about 130-140 FPS. Without FG it's in the 75-85 range which is also decent.
1440p DLSS Balanced 4x MFG and Path Tracing looks to be about 140-150 FPS, but I think that's way too many fake frames for it to be reasonable.

I mean, yeah, of course you can. I just personally couldn't afford an extra 300+ euro to upgrade to the 5070 Ti, so I settled, and I ended up fine.
I also bake sloppa and the 5070 is good enough for 832x1216 in SDXL and then upscaling that to 2x with hiresfix.

Get one with castor wheels on it, and add enough slack to your cables so that you can move the thing around when you're cleaning to get the dust collecting on the floor around it.

and thats the point. you dont have ownership and you had to take it back and you cannot take ownership of everything on your pc because windows doesn't let you, it cucks you by only giving you SOME ownership. not all. you have to beg for it like a cuck and it may or may not give it to you. linux does not have this problem.

Good budget gaming video cards are pretty much gone.
GPU designers don't want to waste high-end silicon on mass-producing the lowest margin chips.

My situation so far: Gaming Rig, watercooled overclocked Intel-CPU (1700), rockstable, Nvidia4070, DDR4 RAM, all M2 and SSD. No TPM (Trusted Portal Module) for Win11. I know there are external TPMs for around $20 out there; but somehow I think about a new motherboard (DDR4) that gives me the opportunity to install Win11 on it. Basically re-use all parts, especially the DDR4 due to the price. Will mount a newer M.2 SSD for the next Win11 (maybe 12). Why is this the best idea that I ever had? Any (manufacturer-) experiences or recommendations?

the entire market is retarded.
GB should be determined by the class of the card, ti and xt should indicate overclocked or not.
like 5050 is 8GB, 60 is 12GB, 60ti is overclocked 12GB, 70 is 16GB, etc... it really needs to be simplified like CPUs, because right now the numbers on GPUs don't mean shit with 60 ti/xt having 8/16GB models, 70 having 12 but 70 ti having 16...
but that's too consumer friendly so it won't happen.

You should look for putties or pads that don't bleed oily residue as they heat up (non-silicone based).

I would get a legit PTM7950 or a Kryosheet (carbon sheet, but electrically conductive). Buy once, cry once.
You need to get the mounting pressure right if you're using a carbon sheet on the GPU die.
>>
what do you think is the actual mental illness that prompts people to make new threads before old one has archived
>>
>>108294206
It's also important to know that non-silicone materials are often less compressible than silicone.
>>
>>108294206
I bought putty because I wanted to redo the thermalpast, but the thermal pads were in good condition, so I didn't replace them with putty. The putty was $10 so I didn't care, I don't have memory chip heat issues (gigabyte 1660 TI, I also took off the plastic "backplate"), I just thought that the pads would rip apart while taking it apart, or the pads already turned into dust. But you should still buy some cheap putty or if your GPU doesn't need 3 different sizes of pads, you could just buy pads.

So that's what that was on my MSI Ventus... it seemed like some gray putty with some oil in one spot when I cut through it with the floss.

I have seen people recommend stuff like Upsiren UTP-8 over TR and K5 pro, calling it junk. Very interesting to see a benchmark. I am surprised to see Arctic pads so high up here, along with the Gelipd Gp extreme pads.

>>108294377
I think that's why MSI went with this soft doughy looking pad putty thing, because they mix 2.5 and 2.75mm thickness, and they produce a ton of suction force. I still have a hard time discerning if they are pads or putty. My guess is putty given how easily they were cut with floss and the debris they left behind resembling paste even though they are formed into rectangles.
