Why aren't the "inventing machine" companies inventing things instead of selling the shovels?
>>
>>108371847
No. It's because the people they're getting rid of are superfluous in the face of the productivity advances of AI. Business opportunities simply can't keep up with how productive AI users have become so right now the best move to improve profit is to cut costs. It's really that simple. AI enhances your workforce 100-1000x meaning you only need 1-0.1% of your labor force.

Shit that I would have had an intern do over a 6 week period I can now do in 20 minutes with that setup and it's not even as good as Opus or GPT.

>>
Do companies realize that reaching out to people to recruit them doesn't work anymore? Like that was possible back when there was a social contract with trustworthy methods of communication, but those dont exist anymore.
When I get a call or any email from a "recruiter" it all goes in the trash because theres no reliable way to verify authenticity. I'd be fucking stupid to click any link in an email or give any information to someone calling me.

Why do they still do it? I know at least some of these are legit. And these companies must be aware of basic cybersecurity because Ive had to sit through hours of training videos about being SUSPICIOUS OF EVERY EMAIL YOU GET in similar jobs.
Is it all about making up bullshit metrics around searching for talent or does someone somewhere still think the system is functional?

If AI is too expensive that they need to downsize the workforce by 20%... Why couldn't they... Downsize the AI costs by 20% to keep the employees?

At this point this has nothing to do with the money, it's just retarded sunk cost.
>>

Recently saw a job I was interested in and went through all the moronic F500 ATS shit to apply. Then I noticed there was no remote work and the commute would be at least an hour through terrible traffic so I decided to not care when the "sorry, we've moved on with other candidates" message came in. Instead I got half a dozen emails and voice mails trying to set up an interview. After ignoring them all, a week later I got an email and a voice mail congratulating me on making it to the second round.
I completely ignored them. Didn't respond to them at all and that got me past the recruiter screen to the internal HR screen. WTF? Now I'm curious if I can pass the HR screen and get to the hiring manager screen by ignoring HR too.

Has there been an uptick in AI demoralization posts? There haven't been many advances recently and there don't seem to be any new models being produced. One of my supervisors is pressuring me to use AI and in the vast majority of cases it's better if I just do the work myself. I tried to get Claude to refactor a 100-200 line Python script. It did a bunch of bullshit I didn't want and I didn't understand the code anymore, so I just rewrote it myself. Even little things like asking it for a sed command it overcomplicates things way too much for it to be any useful. Sometimes I'll use it to make small scripts that I'll use only once but never for anything critical. I guess the shilling campaign is getting desperate.

Is it worth following up with the hiring manager if I haven't heard back in a few days? Had my interview thursday afternoon. Felt like I did well and I was a good fit for the position but yeah.

Have you considered speaking to them about that instead of us

are you a figurative nigger but white in reality (an oreo), of mixed race regardless of nigger-like behaviours (mutt) or are you actually black but not "african-american" (nig-nog)

>Have you considered speaking to them
yeah, 4 months ago

That's got to be dark green.

Ask again. And start sending out resumes. If they're hiring more people, there must be some growth in your sector.

People were worshipping inanimate objects all the time. I'm not surprised they're now worshipping chatbots.

Looks like they're hiring your replacement. Don't expect anything from your company. Look for another job, you should never stop looking for another job anyway.

>boss schedules impromptu meeting with me
>gives me a first formal warning because I missed big deadline with a client, my first mistake
>says it's nothing major and there won't be any fallout from it but just tells me to just make sure I try harder
>two weeks pass
>no substantial developments, just been doing the work I've been given
>boss schedules another impromptu meeting with me, this time with HR and his boss
>"Oh"
>fire me on the spot
>no explanation given
>nothing

Remember you're part of a family and CorpoCorp is a people first organization that takes care of its family.

>what kind of work requires this hardware?
It's rather overkill probably but I got it to train neural networks and such.

We've split tasks into up to three people in the past and it's usually done by first creating subtasks that can be independently worked on then agreeing on some common data models and logic. Every PR goes into a feature branch.

Despite everything, AI still isn't capable of replacing a mid-tier dev. But mid-tier dev + AI >> mid-tier dev + junior so the market still gets fucked. And it'll stay fucked even if prices go x10 when investors start bitching.

There is definitely some trickery afoot and it's not burned out cryptotards making hiring and firing decisions.

In my experience the more attractive the female HR employee the more sociopathic

this is easily explicable
AI is trained on existing code, mostly from open githubs
most existing code, let alone what is freely available, was and remains garbage that has only gotten worse since the mid 2000s

even without AI, if you had outsourced it to Fiverr or something you also would have gotten shit so bad that calling it "slop" would be an insult to unflavored porridge

>of the layoffs are just RIF for covid over hiring, right?
ai grifting is its own thing but continued layoffs for "no reason" since coof has been a thing, yes. and the reason is 100% that coof fucking printed money and everyone expanded too much too quickly combined with wfh tiktoks making employers realize that very little actual productive work goes on, in office or not, so may as well fire 7/8ths of the workforce if every worker spends 7 hours of the shift browsing reddit anyway*

*the remaining 1/8th of the "tech" workforce is still spending most of their time browsing reddit because the nature of the work is mostly either crisis management (so if no crisis no work but HR rats reeeee about anyone being idle ever) or having to wait on some other department to furnish something before you can begin work (so if no specs/materials no work but HR rats reeeee about anyone being idle ever)
