The 9070 XT and the standard 5070 are the same price in my country. I’m on the verge of upgrading and as much as I want to buy the 9070xt because it is much better than the 5070 on paper and seems like the more reasonable choice, it looks like AMD users are not very happy with their cards compared to Nvidia ones. I do not know what to do desu. I was really going to pull the trigger on the 9070xt.

So I bought one of these guys from BHPhotovideo a while ago to potentially replace an old laptop's drive:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1790020-REG/wd_wd10spsx_spa6wt0_wd_black_perfomance_mobile.html

However, I'm still testing the laptop to see if it's worth trying to salvage, and the return period is ending tomorrow. Would I be able to resell this drive easily for roughly its original cost on ebay or something? I've never done that before. I bought it because WD is out of its stock for 2026 and I assumed that I wouldn't be able to get this later this year.

Should I just return it and hope it becomes available later when I need it, or should I keep it and try to sell it later? I'm in the US.

Still looking for answers on this
I want to make a RAID system for myself I can if necessary also connect to a network. Primary use would be photos and videos for my photography stuff and backups of my phone, email and cloud storage. My old solution,a single 3TB harddrive failed me.
I am looking at getting 2-4TB overall storage so something like a 3+2 system would suffice.
Ideally, it would be connected to my PC via USB3 so I can switch between my PC and my Laptop via a switch. I use Linux on both.
What would be a good one to get? I can get the HDDs myself.

Seriously, the tribalism for brands here is retarded. It's easy to write it off as paid shilling, but it's more likely just sunken cost fallacies from people justifying their GPU purchases in trying times. Upgrading your GPU at all right now without an exceptionally good discount is questionable, and thus the natural coping mechanism in /pcbg/ from people paying more than they otherwise would is endless fanboy warring removed from any price/performance discussion. None of these companies are your friends and all of them are involved in shady shit, and you shouldn't trust any of them to definitively provide the best products at any given time; I've bought both NVIDIA and AMD cards over the years, and this year I probably would have bought a B780 if it didn't get cancelled. /pcbg/ is meant to be a resource to optimise your spending, yet it's devolved into a dick measuring contest for fanboys turning their purchases into secular religions.

my gpu is over 5y old and I cant use anything outside of dlss cnn model atm but I cant help but feel buying amd gpus would be mega depressing

every 6 months there some new revolution nvidia announces and they sit there with their brand new amd card hoping more than 2 games get full amd ml featureset, and that maybe amd comes with an alternative to nvidias proprietary tech 2-3 years later down the line which requires buying a new gpu since no new feature ever comes to older gens

At least I can console myself that I didnt spend 700€ on amd hardware.
>>
>>108409954
AMD, Sony, and Microsoft are all splitting the R&D for these AI trained graphics rendering tech.
NVIDIA's gaming revenue alone can match AMD's client CPU (Ryzen & Threadrippers) + GPU (Radeon & Pro) sales.
I'm guessing Microsoft will ask more NPU for their next gen console, but it will have the same Neural Array & Radiance Cores (Tensor & RT core equivalents) architecture in PS6 & RDNA5.

>>108410602
You should get the 9070 XT over the 5070 if they're priced the same, assuming it's around US $700.
This is assuming you're happy with the existing FSR / Amethyst feature set.
9070 XT has a noticeably better native performance, FSR4 should get a few more updates.

Treat future tech like FSR5 as a bonus, not a guarantee (prepare for the worst).
Last advice also applies to NVIDIA cards, like RTX 40 not getting multi-frame generation support.

You need to decide whether the NVIDIA premium is worth the money.
Stuff like DLSS5 will probably not run well on cards below the 5070 Ti, and I'm being optimistic (5090 is the more realistic cutoff).
It took a decent amount of time to run path tracing on more affordable GeForce cards.

They revealed path tracing with Quake II RTX in 2019, and Cyberpunk Overdrive (PT) debuted in 2023.
DLSS5 will take time to get game developer adoption for new titles. This might be supported in Witcher 4 and maybe GTA6.
By that time, you might be buying a better video card anyway (if they're affordable).

Right now the NVIDIA premium is too high.
It's only justified if this is truly the last generation to buy relatively affordable gaming video cards.
>>
>>108411230

Are you looking for a prebuilt system? Synology are usually the go to, but you will save money just building it yourself as you would a normal PC. It doesn't have to be anything special, just use normal consumer parts. As for the OS, the noob choice is Unraid. It will work and be easy, but you have to pay. Another somewhat noob option is OpenMediaVault. If you want to not be a noob you can look into TrueNAS, Proxmox, or just plain Debian/Ubuntu with ZFS or normal mdadm. Though this will require a lot of learning. Do your research if deciding to go with BTRFS.

If you're looking for something quick and easy, just get a Synology. Do a bit pf research first though. They had some controversy over forcing their own proprietary drives into their machines, but I think they walked it back.

It could be used for local inferencing to talk to the console, it watches your screen in real time and could answer contextual questions (how do i beat this boss?), handle background noise cancellation when you use voice chat, clip highlight reels, etc.
I'm not saying these features will work well, but that's what the execs are hoping for.

It could be competitive. People are dishing out eye watering amounts for mac studio. if the b65 hits at $800, then 4 cards of b65 = 128gb for $3200.

Add $550 for the computer (like a jerry rigged mining rig) and you have $3750 total. This is with 128gb of vram for the llm.

compare:
>Apple Mac Studio M4 Max - 16 core CPU, 40 core GPU, 128 GB RAM, 2 TB - Pre-Owned
>$4,999.99
>>
>>108411882
not really. WHEN china decides to join iran attacking the West, then boom it will matter.
>>

He won’t be able to cash any of that out tho.
>>
>>108411891
Why will it matter then?
>>
>>108411641
Intel has really bad drivers and a large CPU overhead. which is weird because their APUs work fine.

Today I realized, no matter what PC you have, you can't avoid stutters in games. If you are looking for buttery smooth gameplay, only consoles can proved that, because games are meant to run on those fixed hardware. You can have a 4090 and the fastest X3D CPU, but the micro stutters due to shader compilation and other stuff will always be there. I don't have a 4090 though.
>>
>>108412459
Is this true chat? Do consoles not have stutters, at all?

And that's with a combo package that's 55€ off. Grim.
Well, I told my friends to upgrade last year, they'll just have to manage with their shitboxes or pay, not my problem.
>>
>>108412459
>no matter what PC you have, you can't avoid stutters in games
Proton doesn't have traversal stutter.
>>
>>108412463
Yes, because when you download or install a game, it also comes with the shaders already pre-compiled and it doesn't have to regenerate them again, so you just enjoy the smooth gameplay.
>>108412476
How's that?
>>
>>108412459
>he thinks consoles don't stutter
>>
>>108412459
I play a lotta games without stutters on linux
My problem is specific games like cyberpunk where there's noticeable input lag under 100fps
>>
>>108412497
>cyberpunk
Do you have autism?
>>
>>108412483
okay I'm not saying they don't stutter, like, at all, but it has still less than any other modern computer. These machines were meant for one purpose: running games. I wish I could just download shaders from the internet or pre-compile them somehow, I would even wait hours, so I can enjoy everything without any stutter.
>>
>>108412500
Do you look at slop like CP2077 and think "yep, this is for autistic people"?
>>
>>108412480
>How's that?
Apart from Vulkan just being faster, Proton also pre-caches shaders before launching the game for the first time.
>>
>>108412459
the best way to kill stutters is to tighten your memory timings
>>
>>108412515
I though pre-caching is a game feature.
>>108412517
It might reduce the duration of micro stutters, but won't eliminate them sadly.
>>
>>108412529
>I though pre-caching is a game feature
Most games don't do it because they want to advertise smaller install sizes
>>
>>108412531
pff, can't wait for shaderless games in the future.
>>
I still believe in the 7800x3d on am4, waiting for Q1 results to be pitiful so they are forced to sell us things we ACTUALLY WANT instead of selling us more slop cpus like 9850x3d 9750x etc
>>
https://videocardz.com/newz/nvidia-confirms-dlss-5-uses-a-2d-frame-plus-motion-vectors-as-input
confirmed dlss5 is ai slop hallucination instead of actual upscaling of resolution, they shouldn't even have called it dlss is entirely a new thing, pure enshittification of gpu graphics
njeetidiots should push back on this and demand them to work on the current dlss instead and call the ai slop yassify filter something else instead

you can already run a 7800x3d if you just buy a compatible mb and ram
no need to puff copium for things that will never happen

They usually do
My recommendation is to go on aliexpress and preemptively just look for a board with hotswap sockets for switches (I got one for my G502X). That way you can have any switches you want.

Just connect a Raspberry Pi or any other SBC to a DAS enclosure. Making a seedbox from desktop hardware only makes sense if you've got most parts already liying around.

Old optipex are nearly free here, but lately the RAM is getting stripped.
