Yesterday, March 27th 2026, with no forewarning, I was invited to a meeting and promptly told that, in an effort to "make the company more effective" and "save finances", as of next month, my position at the company would become "obsolete" in favour of using AI for all translations going forward. This came as a huge shock to me, as though the discussion about using AI for translating had frequently come up in the past, something I was always strongly and vocally against, but never to the extent that it might actually cost me my job in the future. It had, of course, crossed my mind many times, but I naively thought my work at WHS was valued enough that I might not be at immediate risk.

I feel incredibly betrayed by the management of the company I've come to care about greatly these past almost 4 years, and am heartbroken I won't get to see my friends and colleagues at the office every day.

Does anyone else feel good when people complain that AI has replaced their job? I remember telling people 2 years ago this would happen, and I was told I was a conspiracy theorist and that AI couldn't do fingers.
>>
>>108474359
Then your boss will fire you for being caveman.
Just let AI review the PR and then review it yourself.
>>
>>108474477
It does put pressure on the job market for sure. For now I'm not worried because we haven't reached AGI yet (PO tells requirements to AI and it handles everything including communications) and even if we do reach AGI, it'll affect ALL jobs so everyone is fucked.
>>
>>108474477
AI can't really do most of the jobs it's currently "replacing". It's just companies that are either invested in it or paranoid about being "left behind".
>>
>>108474490
>, it'll affect ALL jobs so everyone is fucked.

>>
>>108474495

>>
>>108474490
don't worry, with our current tech we are not getting AGI any time soon. In fact we don't even have actual AI yet.
>>
>>108474511
Can't wait for your post about how AI replaced your job next, that is if you aren't a neet larping.
>>
>>108474477
not really because they're not being replaced because AI has gotten good enough, but because the technologically illiterate in charge of technological positions have been successfully mass scammed by cowshit eating subhumans into believing that AI is in fact advanced enough

it's just kinda sad that we're really going to have the whole tech industry set back years, maybe decades because of corporate american dystopia

my job physically cant be replaced by AI though so it's whatevs
>>
>>108474511
You know, I don't really care whether AI can think/has a consciousness or not. What matters is whether or not it can efficiently and effectively solve problems/tasks in way that satisfies (business) needs. Once it can do so as well as humans do or better, it's AGI regardless of how it works under the hood.
>>
>>108474528
Yeah it's sad. No actual innovations are being made anymore.
>>
I've come to accept that sooner or later I'll lose my job to AI and will not be hired again. I wonder if I should try to open a business and be the ones doing the replacing.
>>
>>108474477
You are a psycho and your cope "argument" for being happy about it is that you warned people about it and "they didn't listen"
>>
>>108474548
AI is innovation
>>
>>108474558
Should have heeded my warning, now all I can do for you is laugh at your misery.
>>
>>108474548
I had AI translate all kinds of things from and to my language and it's as good as any human translation. I'm surprised this didn't happen to all translators sooner. We'll all be replaced eventually. I thought truck drivers would be replaced before us, but you can't slam into a crowded bus stop with a game so they'll be more open to replacing software developers than truck drivers.
>>
>>108474581
I think companies, going forward, will be relying on hybrid/on-site in-house skeleton crews supported by AI for maintenance and development. The job market for devs will remain bad and die for graduates.
>>
>>108474581
>translations
well yeah no shit, that's a local language model's forte. same with stuff journos or blog writers

programming or agentic behavior isn't because these things are totally different than how communicative languages work. language is inherently interpretive and up to interpretation. computing isn't. you NEED the same pattern of 1s and 0s to arrive at the target result. you DON'T need the same pattern of words to convey an idea to a reader
>>
>>108474560
What innovation? They're all using the same paper from 2017 and just pumping more compute into it and calling it AI.

Said this in the last thread but I'll throw it out again. After working 2 years on contract I'll finally be considered an determinate employee for my next appointment. That is, unless a hiring committee completely disconnected from my department approves my case. Everyone on my team, even the executives acknowledge the work I've done and would very much like to keep me. But I'm horrified because I know these corporate drones with no context have full discretion as to whether my team will suffer without me or not. And they'll definitely have "AI" in their consideration. I have a headache.

I hate my job, but if I'm being honest to myself, I'm not that good and only got my current job (junior devops engineer) due to my cousin working in the company.

Should I stay in my current job to get more experience on paper even if I hate it?
It feels like my current job actually stops me from actually learning anything, as I get no time to learn new technologies prior to working with it, there is so much time pressure that I need (and I'm encouraged to do so) work with AI to create our infrastructure. I do a little bit of everything but dont actually really know how any of it works and I feel terrible because of it.

Efficiency is a mindset.

I’ve officially made the switch to using the run button in my IDE to launch my webapps, and honestly? It’s a total game-changer compared to manually typing `npm run dev` every single time.

It’s all about optimizing your workflow and reclaiming those small moments of focus. Small tweaks lead to big productivity gains.

How are you streamlining your dev process today?

>>
>>108475136
Sure, we all love a good alias like `npi`, but when it comes to peak developer velocity, nothing beats a single click. It’s all about optimizing your workflow so you can focus on what actually matters: building great products.

Efficiency isn't just about typing faster—it's about working smarter.

one of the reasons I'm leaving my current job. It's a powerful and complicated product, but most of our customers are complete idiots and have no interest in learning how to use it. It always feels good to be proven right, after being called 'everything but a child of god' for pointing out pretty obvious logical conclusions to people.
The problem with 'ai' replacement is that everytime someone is replaced it removes a consumer from the economy without providing them another role, so sooner than we think our 'growth-based' economy will collapse like a dead star, and there won't be any 'spare money' left for the tech industry to siphon.

There's also two types of DE, fake ones that just write SQL pipelines moving data from one database to another (but in the cloud!), and proper ones that require both data and programming experience and you'll be building scaling distributed systems ran on server clusters

I'm too poor to use openclaw because it doesn't work with my local models, I have to Claude code for it which I cannot afford because I am unemployed.
I am unemployed because I'm not up to date on AI usage and I cannot get up to date because I don't have the money to run openclaw with proper cloud models.
>>
>>108478214
There are entry level tech jobs but they are only for people who know how to set-up a vibe coding or agentic setup which you can only get experience with if you can afford good models. It costs money to buy tokens, it costs money to have good graphic cards or mac minis, which entry level guys cannot afford. When you can't afford AI, you can't learn AI and can't do what companies want you to.

while there are useful things you can do with local models and consumer level gpus, trying to vibe code with them is generally not a good idea

>but tech-cucks see it as okay to leverage themselves out of the market and starve in the street.
I think it's partly a 'temporarily embarrassed millionaire' problem. A lot of these tech bros had this fantasy in their minds that they were either going to get a job, rise up to a senior and secure position, or come up with the next big tech idea and become financially secure for the rest of their lives. So they put no investment toward improving the conditions of fellow workers because they saw it as eventually not being their problem. It's a 'kick the ladder behind you' situation but in many (some might say deliciously ironic) instances they were unknowingly still attached to the ladder.

>>108473200
>So where did it go off script and what did it do? I highly doubt this happened btw, the context you're describing is absolutely minuscule.
Well it did, and seeing as its not work related I'll share it.

I had a folder of data files, like this
ELINT:

Emitter: 1
Freq: A PRF: 900
First signal: 8:0:7 Last signal: 8:0:37
Sequence broadca: 0.1s Silent: 4.9s
NW: 42:14:59 041:58:54 SE: 41:07:39 045:17:02

Emitter: 2
Freq: A PRF: 1900
First signal: 8:0:37 Last signal: 8:2:14
Sequence broadca: 0.1s Silent: 1.49012e-09s
NW: 42:14:21 042:03:21 SE: 42:14:19 042:03:45

My prompt was this:
In elint.py, make a program that parses a set of .info files in the ./ELINTdata/ folder.
1. Get a list of files in ./ELINTdata/ and loop over them.
2. For each file:
2.1. Split the filename ({SAM}-ELINTData.info) and store {SAM} as a str variable. E.g SA2-ELINTDATA.info would give "SA2" as the {SAM} var.
2.2. Go through the lines of the file, find ones which start with Freq: and parse the line to get the Freq and PRF values
2.3 Store the Freq and PRF in a nested dictionary (frequencies) in the following format: {Freq: PRF: {emitter: "", site+=SAM}}
3. Export the frequencies dictionary to a JSON file (frequencies.json) in the same folder as elint.py

What it got wrong was 2.2 and 2.3.
Because I wanted a blank string value as a placeholder in the emitter keyword, it'd seen that and seen an Emitter number in the data file and gone "oh you must want to parse that too and put it in the output data".
No clanker, I didn't ask for that.

To be fair I probably should've been more specific with what I wanted it to do in 2.3, but if I'd given that to a human developer I'd expect them to ask a clarifying question.

>Hope you like working at a help desk for a year.
I did it for almost two years and it was easily the most fun job I've ever had, and possibly the most enjoyable time of my life. I would usually stay an hour or two past my shift even though I was salaried. There was one time I stayed so long past my (day) shift that night shift showed up and I was like oh fuck I should go to bed lmao. Tier 1/2 tickets are like meth to me and everyone thinks I'm insane for feeling that way, which makes sense because I can't explain it, but I FUCKING LOVE TECH SUPPORT MAN.
Actually the last interview I had, which went pretty much perfectly, was for an IT support analyst position. I did not get it, and I can guarantee you whoever did will not be as good at that role as I would be. Sucks for that company, and sucks for me too.

Anyway if I can't get a cleared hell desk role with a TS/SCI, I very much doubt I can get one without any security clearance at all. I've been thinking about joining the Air Force Reserve (or Guard), but that's a whole story on its own.

GDIT has jobs but you need to apply regardless of the position location and tell them where you want to be.

Reserve is better than guard by a LOOONG mile. Besides you get a choice of going back to active in the reserves that is normally heavily barred with the guard since you are a bitch of the state. Trust me Reserve is the best half foot out since you can always try to comeback as an officer(below the age of 31 required and have to get a masters degree basically as soon as you are done with training to be competitive for promotion)

Unions should be legal but not state enforced.
Regardless the SWE union is the GPL. With that you can tell management "don't be retarded or we'll fuck off and run the company ourselves." Regardless you have so much leverage you don't really need a union anyway, you're just too much of a pussy to exercise it. Furthermore most of your problems as an SWE is too much dumb management so adding more managers would only exacerbate that.

If you haven't realized that is because you refuse to try it yourself, or you did and are now in the denial phase, adapt or die off.

Is it a local model? If not you're just giving away your finance info for the model company to sell. Also what on earth do you need automation for with relation to finances which isn't simply covered by excel or some simple scripting?

So your example to own us AI-realists involves training a junior for probably two years so they can read and write a few emails? No code work at all, even in your example to prove me wrong.

>my team needs this guy! After two years and 200k salary, he'll be able to read and write some emails for us.

Can you imagine fighting for that?

You don't even realize how cooked juniors are. I would absolutely not be interested in hiring a fresh CS grad for your example.

ahh to come back from the week end to that little 9+ on the teams icon

Why would a company hire and spend time training a junior when he'll likely job hop after a year or two? The incentive isn't there.

why does no other field have this retarded mentality? my dad joined a local manufacturing company as a junior project manager working on machines and now 15 years later he's a low level executive in charge of the engineering department.
>>
>>108481997
Last time i job hopped i doubled my pay. What is the incentive to stay for 15 years if you can't double in 5 years of being at a company. Besides he's in charge of mechanical engineers so he's a poor fag.
>>
Would mentioning how the jeets at my work assigned the other jeets the easy tasks while assigning everyone else the hard tasks have done anything?
>>
>>108481937
that's right. I didn't order you to find me a pre-cooked steak and then microwave it. I ordered you to grill me a steak from a cow that you slaughtered and butchered yourself.
>>
>>108481872
junior retention is about having the balls to explain to the bean counters that we can only hire juniors if a big pay raise is in the budget to promote those juniors at the two year mark.
Also, there should be actually challenging work to keep feeding people as they grow.
And lastly, the pace should be chill but at the sametime not encouraging laziness.

>>108481995
nothing will prevent a big-ego asshole dev from jobhopping but that is a good thing.

>>108481997
depends on the company

>>108482013
doubling in 5 years is a bit extreme, but doubling in 7 years should also be in the budget.

FIRED you will get fired
>that we can only hire juniors if a big pay raise is in the budget to promote those juniors at the two year mark.
Entirely depends upon the companies bottom line, the job itself and the companies course trajectory.
>And lastly, the pace should be chill but at the sametime not encouraging laziness.
I have never worked at a slow pace location so you better keep up when i come to your company for a "Break & Promotion" for coming from a high speed location that taught me more in 1 year than you ever learned in 3 years.

35-45 hours per week of delivering quality quality quality. we aim for 35 hours per week but understand that sometimes it takes 45 hours to accomplish what we though would take 35 hours originally.

>>108482165
I didn't say slow pace... I said chill pace. that high-speed location had better have left you producing high-quality code at a reasonable pace or you won't be working here for very long. I don't tolerate bugs. the pace is chill so why the fuck are there bugs?

I do realize alot of this sounds unbelievable, yeah, the industry isn't what it used to be...

lil bro even if you get a great job and a fancy wife you'll still have a vehicle and house in need of constant maintenance and even if those work your kids will break taps and your wife will need to repair the dragon dildo she pegs you with. even if you are 100% trad, ted bestows his grace upon ye, you still need to go hunting and foraging
