Is Si/C a meme or is OOS/ColorOS just shit? Got a OnePlus 13 back in July and initially I'd get 9-10h SOT, but for awhile now it's been more or less in line with what I was getting on my S23U (7-8h) even though the battery's 20% bigger. What gives?

Yes, your battery likely tried to produce a large amount of power leading to an unexpected shutdown.

As for if it is worth replacing, depends on the phone. A flagship, long term supported phone could get you two more years of use. An abandoned BLU $100 Walmart special? Not so much.

Truth.

Here's the difference:
>Android spies on you.
While giving you tons of free services in exchange for providing your info to Google. This was told to you upfront and agreed upon by both parties.

>Apple spies on you.
After charging you $1000 extra with the promise of not spying on you and spending trillion dollar ad campaigns on the slogan "privacy is a human right" and hosting the Global Police Summit at One Infinite Loo every year to teach 3 letter government agencies how to use iBotnet toys for mass surveillance.

I am willing to spend up to $300, what is the best phone that I can get?
I have been a Motocel for 10 years, I had an E2, G5 plus, X4, and have been using a used G 5G Ace with Lineage for about 4 years. The charging is slow, though I am just charging off a power strip with a magnetic connector charging cord. On like android 12, thought about updating it but I was fucking around trying to update my old X4 and I remembered how much I hated dealing with roms would rather just buy something new and flash a new rom if I had to than back up everything on this phone and have to set it up again. The Ace is still fine but if I could get something that's an upgrade for not a whole lot of money I'd like to.
Must be
Andgroid
custom rom support or long term updates from manufacturer
5000mah or greater
6gb ram or greater
128gb of storage or greater
Work with Tello
The CMF Phone 2 Pro seemed like the choice but it isn't in stock anymore so I guess I'm not doing that.
The Moto G stylus 2024 was tempting since it's under $200 but I learned it has no Lineage support so it's basically going to be garbage soon.
I started looking at the basedstaniable phones since a more easily replaced battery would be nice, I saw the HMD Fusion, but heard the specs aren't that great so I don't really see the point for me.
I could not care less about screen refresh rate or resolution, I want the best battery life possible and if screen specs get in the way I am not interested as long as it doesn't look actively worse than the Ace.
I wouldn't really gaymen a lot on it, but I also don't want something that's a piece of shit performance wise since the greater the battery and performance the longer it should last ideally.
The battery life could be supplemented by wireless charging, but I heard it's bad for the battery health and inefficient, I also prefer using bulky cases so even if I did have it it probably wouldn't work.
As there been any headway in the smaller phone department?

MUST BE:
> Immortal battery (5000mAh MINIMUM, ideally 10000mAh)
> 6GB RAM / 128GB Storage (must be fast enough to simulate the heat death of the universe)
THE ESCALATION:
> CMF Phone 2 Pro is out of stock? My disappointment is immeasurable.
> Moto G Stylus 2024 is $200 but no Lineage support? Literal e-waste. Trash.
> Sustainable phones? HMD Fusion specs are for peasants. I want a phone I can repair with a toothpick and sheer willpower.
> Battery must be hot-swappable. I should be able to change it mid-call without the OS blinking.
> I don’t care about "refresh rate" or "resolution." If the screen doesn't generate its own power via photosynthesis while looking at my face, I'm not interested.
> Must be "small" for one-handed use, but also have a massive screen and a battery the size of a brick. I expect the phone to defy Euclidean geometry.
> I don't "gaymen" but the performance must be NASA-tier. If I see one frame drop while scrolling a PDF, I will sue the manufacturer.
> Wireless charging is for the weak and inefficient. I want the phone to charge via ambient static electricity from my carpet.

FaceID can be used to identify and track a person remotely without their consent.

iphone 17's hardware is pretty solid but if you frequently do nerdy stuff like torrenting on your phone, you should stick to android. iOS' walled garden is no joke. The only exception would be if you live in the EU or Japan and have access to sideloading.

This always makes me laugh so much because people who don't know anything about how expensive it is to run an AI Data center and how much time it requires to actually have a proper data center running with all the resources. this is not a loss this is a tremendous win because Apple doesn't have to worry about all the cost of running an AI Data center and at the end of the day Google has the most resources for collecting data and enhancing its AI. Open AI is losing so much money that they literally had to take government contracts so they can make AI for weapons systems if they didn't do this they would go bankrupt that's the current state of AI you don't know what you're talking about they need people to use their AI or it's going to go belly up.
>>
>>108479683
Apple is paying a billion dollars for the model, they're still running data centers themselves using Apple Silicon servers for most stuff. SOME of the "heavy lifting" might be done on Google servers instead, but as of now this appears to still be under negotiation.

Oof apparently the guys at TS fucked up tons of orders so at least you're not the only one. I suggest you just return the phone and look for something else.
HOWEVER
OnePlus 15 has a Snapdragon no? All Snapdragon processors have an emergency download mode on top of the phone's bootloader that will take any firmware file to restore the phone back to a functional OS
BUT
It's very tricky, you need the correct EDL firmware files, the correct firehose files for your specific processor and a flasher program. If you fuck up even slightly you'll end up with a pretty expensive paperweight.

I have a question about region-locked Google Play app features

I'm from Canada but I'm going to Japan in a week and I want to try the Translate app's new Live Translate feature but it's not enabled in Canada yet (but it is in Japan, and USA). I have had some success getting Live Translate to show up in the app using a USA VPN but I haven't been able to make it consistent

So I have two questions actually:

1. If I go to Japan will the app feature just automatically start working based on my location/IP even though all my "stuff" is still from Canada? The VPN behavior with a USA IP seems to suggest this, like it's geofenced rather than account-based?

2. Is there a consistent way to spoof my location/region to get the feature to show up? I haven't tried changing my Google account region to USA because it requires a payment method, I have US friends who would probably let me use their credit card details but I don't want to ask unless it might actually work.

As a battery ages, its internal resistance increases. When the phone demands a "peak" burst of power for heavy tasks, this resistance causes the battery’s voltage to instantly drop—or "sag"—below the minimum level required for operation. To protect the hardware from this sudden loss of stable power, the system triggers an automatic emergency shutdown.

The design of the smartphones regarding the cameras is getting out of hand. Recently I saw a new smartphone in a store, I don't remember the brand now, but the cameras where so much thicker than the smartphone that it was so ugly.

I got my Armor 29 Pro Thermal
I kinda like it despite it almost being a downgrade from an S23
Pros
>It's a brick
>Battery will last ~4 days of all day use
>flashlight is brighter than anything else
>screen is decent enough
>16gb of RAM
>NV camera
>120w charger that's PD/PPS 3.0 and worth $50 on it's own
Cons
>It's a brick
>Mediatek 7400 seems fast enough, just think there should be more
>Thermal cam does this refresh thing pretty constantly and makes the preview stutter pretty often
>camera region should be more protected
>I dread the questions and jeering at work

SiC is unproven in reliability for mass scale. Phones with sic batteries are single percentile share compared to the standard LiHV polymer packs.
You see, the silicon changes size so much with every charge/discharge, and the carbon can only ameliorate that size change so much, that eventually the silicon cracks and/or loses contact with the other layer and you either get the bad boom boom fire or a broken battery.
This is why the cycle rating is half of a lipo.

On the flipside, modern lipo phone batts are typically LiHV (high voltage) of a 3.85-3.9v nominal chemistry and a 4.45-4.5v full charge.
This is why the EU mandated cycle rating dropped so much for lipos. LiHV can store more for the same size, but regardless of it being a tailored HV chemistry, still cannot endure as many cycles as a standard 3.7v/4.2v lipo.

Yes, they are limited by lens design more than anything else. If you're willing to live with a bad camera, redmagic has you covered with totally flush cameras. If you want good cameras then you'll need to deal with a larger lens. It's similar to the difference in image quality between a point and shoot camera and a camera with a separate lens

Anyone know why my Moto G Power 2025 can run the unlock origin DNS profile but my OnePlus 15 can't? My friend says his Red Magic 10 won't let him install it either. Global rom versions and unlocked too. Are Chinese phone manufacturers blocking the DNS from being installed on android because it will stop them spying on us? When I go to wifi on my OnePlus 15 the DNS profile works, but on my mobile network it doesn't. I have T-Mobile for my OnePlus 15 and cricket for my Motorola G Power 2025. It's like the phones are automatically blocking it only when on mobile data.
>>
>>108486520
Very strange had nother friend try it on a unlocked iPhone running Verizon and the same thing happened to them. They can only use the ublock origin DNS on wifi, but can't use it with their phones mobile network (just like it's happening on my OnePlus 15) but my moto g power with cricket can run it on both wifi and the mobile network. >>108484940

No, the lens needs either very precise and relatively large glass pieces, or a longer series of components. You end up with either
>delicate components that aren't suited for everyday high shock use
>tall or long (periscope) lens assemblies that take up a lot of space inside the phone such as the ZTE nubia z70 telephoto stripe
>big but fewer components where everything is given a moderate amount of space like current island-centric design
Without sapphire components and much more stable miniaturized mounting solutions there's not a whole lot of improvement available. It's a materials science problem at this point
>>
>>108486637
Verizon is a whitelist network for sure, but T-Mobile is a anything goes network and cricket basically is too. It's so weird because we can all use the AdGuard DNS over our mobile networks but the unlock origin one which is the best won't. Unfortunately the unlock origin DNS is t a official part of unlock so no support for this situation.

Anyone know a really good DNS ad blocker that works with any network like AdGuard, but does a better job?
>>
>>108486792
Try Mullvad or Quad9
>>
>>108486807
Thank you! Mullvad works great! This is why I love you guys here! It's because of you anons I dropped Smasnug for better options!
Below is the working one I found via the DeGoogle subreddit that everyone says works best for Android
extended.dns.mullvad.net

Is it ever worth to buy 2nd hand phones or from pawn shops? I want to buy a 15 pro max, it spins around 600 yuros for either 512gb nice condition or 1tb

Just search for them. Or open the app list.

So whats the catch with chinese phones, they cant be just that good ...right?
>>
>>108475853
Can they do it without using Samsung displays tho?
>>
>>108475853
>Apple is using technology that "reduces the crease without eliminating it entirely."

Kek never say I only post stuff that makes iPhones only look good ever again. :)
>>
>>108487795
The catch is everyone will know you are poor and likely a pervert by using them. Your peers will judge you harshly and may soon cease to be your peers entirely.

wtf are you talking about, its just in the settings under "private DNS"
>>
>>108488380
yeah thats exactly what I meant so relax. Im trying to add a private DNS and I was able to figure it out. Unfortunately the Ublock origin one is unofficial and it doesnt work on certain phones on certain carriers here in Burgerland. NextDNS was the best option.

The OS generally is garbage, often filled with ads, poor update cadence, warranty may be non-existent. Kinda like Samsung or iPhone but on Chinese steroids— nice hardware ruined by shit software.

>PLEASE WAIT 408899 HOURS TO ATTEMPT UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER AGAIN
*deletes your Camera DRM when you finally unlock, greatly diminishing camera performance*

>>108489071
Western market (including Samsung even though Worst Korea is Eastern) phones tend to be more conservative on the whole progress thing. There was some Pixel 11 leaks recently but it didn't seem too revolutionary, and it was just the base model the Fold wasn't part of it.

Even with no crease, watch your fingernails as they can damage the plastic screen. Of course this is true of all foldables.
>>
>>108489133
camera drm was a problem only on sonys which are japanese https://www.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-android-pie-unlock-bootloader-drm-fix-camera/
>os is garbage
true and some people still prefer them for some reason
>filled with ads
revoke msa and replace some apps with ones from fossify
>poor update cadence
updates every two months are fine considering what google did recently https://www.androidauthority.com/android-risk-based-security-updates-3597466/
>warranty non-existent
only true if you order from aliexpress or from china directly
>please wait until next day to attempt unlocking
there's a script (aqlr) on xda that automates this

if you are on a budget then chinese phones are great, if you can spend money then get an iphone
>>
>>108487795
The ONLY upside is that the OS works as intended and not buggy.
The downside is fucking huge. If you're not going to use Universal Android Debloater through adb. You're going to have a bad time
>>
>>108489172
Oh I heard some Chinese OEMs were doing the same thing where unlocking the bootloader permanently gimps the camera.
>>

not really, but you could be right.. none of my friends there use applepay, its not just because of that. my google wallet tap to pay worked there fine last year too.

How the fuck do I pick a phone to buy?
I wanted to try out that new A37 coming out next month but people are saying it's not worth it.
Right now I have a old Motorola stylus that is starting to show it's age. Any advice?
>>
>>108489412
Nfc-felica also works on Japan variants of Android phones but you need to install like 4 apps outside of Google pay for it to work
>>
>>108489588
>his phone doesn't have a fold out table
>>
>>108489691
A series Samsung is bad unless you are literally homeless-tier. OneUI is bad enough on a flagship SoC I can't imagine how it would be on a budget one.

Use the phone finder or give us some priorities you have. Seems like you are just looking for something cheap and crappy?
>>
>>108489801 is right, OneUI 6.1.1 and 7 both kind of sucked on my S23U. It hitched and stuttered way more than my Pixel 6 Pro which never did this at all. Fingerprint reader on my Galaxy sucked too
>>
>>108489825
Under display fingerprint sensors are memes
They're all worse than the back fp sensor on my older pixel 2 xl that's faster and infinitely more accurate

So T-Mobile web guard was the culprit and disabling it fixed the issue with adding the unofficial ublock origin private DNS.

Anyone else own a redmagic 11 pro and know of a confirmed working dock for monitors? This is the 5th phone I've bought that told me it had display out and it still doesn't work. I'm tired of buying more crap that doesn't work, and yet I still can't find someone to shill me a product even on jewtube.

It really depends on the fingerprint reader in question. Optical is dog shit but modern ultrasonic is practically indistinguishable from a physical reader, and I used to have a phone with a physical fingerprint reader. Best ultrasonic is still in the X90 Pro+.

Dock? I dunno. I've had good luck with regular USB C to HDMI cords, and have one (pic related) that has pass-through charging and several USB A ports along with HDMI. But again they are more like cables or dongles and less like docks.

Personally I don't trust all these weird Chinese brands because their devices probably have special spy chips in them which send your personal data to the Chinese Communist Party

Looking good. I really like my 3a. The upgraded optical zoom on 4a is the biggest gap between the both, for what it seems.
>>
>>108491622
You might need to find a dock gamers use with rog and steam decks. Those work very well.
