Hiring managers and their systematic removal from society.

Hiring managers do not have the common decency to talk to you or me like a human being.

Should they all be forced to stop existing?

Should their details leaked online be compiled into a database?

If a hiring manager treats you or me a programmer like just another exploitable resource then should they be treated in a similar manner?
I believe yes. I believe that hiring managers should be systematically targeted by hackers until their entire ecosystem becomes infeasible.

I believe their bank accounts should be drained.
I believe their identities should be stolen.
I believe they shouldn't be allowed to access the online environment without being exposed to the worst possible experience imaginable.

It is not so easy being treated like less than a human being by these people. It is not so easy having these people waste our time. Why shouldn't we brick and deadlock all technology they use?

Giving tech to corporations was a mistake.

if you are given a job where you are taught/shown the ropes by an overworked mentor in hope you'll be able to take their duties eventually for at least 2 years down the line because they're going to leave in 12 months or less, would you take the job?

the hours are 996, the pay is below minimum wage. and it's supposed to be a prestigious government job

A bit of background and some stats from my job search:
>4.5 yoe (I rounded to 5)
>no degree
>previous work was 1 year at a local startup 55k/yr out of high school (they went bankrupt and laid me off), 3.5 years remote at a startup 60k/yr (they also laid me off, didn't go bankrupt tho)
>unemployed for 14 months total (6 months I got depressed, stopped searching, and neeted all day)

Stats:
>363 job applications total (that I tracked)
>121 rejection emails
>6 interviews
>8 OAs -> 2 led to interviews
>rest are ghosted / pending

Notable companies I interviewed with:
>Microsoft (rejected after first round)
>Meta (rejected after full loop)
>Amazon (failed the OA, hardest one by far)
>Google (passed their "behavioral quiz", recruiter kept telling me they would schedule an interview, never happened, then got rejected, TWICE btw)
>Walmart (passed the OA, got told I would have an interview scheduled, then got rejected)

About the job I got:
>Recruiter screening -> OA -> two rounds of technical interviews
>they put me on hold for 6 weeks after the last round, telling me they would follow up if they had a job for me

What actually helped:
>applying on company websites directly
>grinding leetcode (I solved 460 problems total during my search)
>having an open source project related to AI to show off on my resume even if its just a chatgpt wrapper

And the offer that I was told by email (still waiting on the docs):
>143k/yr base, up to 187k/yr with bonus
>in office 5 days a week (hybrid 3/2 available after a year)
>have to relocate to a top 5 COL city

My life finally starts now!!! I'll quit my shitty underemployment job and laugh at the boomers that told me I would never get anywhere without a degree. I'm tired of being the smartest person in the room yet being given meaningless "work" no one wants to touch.
I'll finally be able to pay off my debt, buy turbo super cool electronics, modify my car, move out, and have sex!!!!!

If you want an actual answer, try to get into manufacturing. a lot of these companies need someone that's complacent enough to do the most boring work ever for 80k a year but also competent enough to run their own projects with freedom. A CS degree will get you in the door, look for any jobs that mention software but require "engineering" degrees instead of CS.

graphic designer here. assets are a hassle and a problem for me, especially navigating the mazes of ambiguous licenses. how do I work around this easily? are there any real C00 asset libraries? if I want to generate stuff, what do I go for good industry standard assets? I'm mostly looking for basic stuff like textures, smoke fx, halftones, film grain, and other assorted small assets. I'm thinking about scanning some stuff from IRL but also generating a lot. Not interested in subbing to sites or buying asset packs because even when you pay out a lot of them still don't give you complete freedom with the licenses.

My boss is obsessive over tracking everything. If anyone on my team finishes tasks early or late or just not at the exact amount of story points estimated he gets pissed. He always calls it a failure and if you want to pull something from the backlog he always is against it because that’s “affecting the sprint scope”. In my opinion this is just stupid because it just encourages us to stretch out tasks for 2 weeks even if we can finish early. Is this normal?

I can't express the overwhelming sense of relief I've had today. The universe itself has validated my existence. I ignored all of the advice I received from other people during my job hunt and it ended up working out. I had everyone in my family shitting on me telling me I was a retard (sometimes nice, sometimes not so nice) for trying to get a programming job without going to college. The literal most unemployable family member that has never made more than $20 an hour in his entire life was telling me that I was a retard. It was so unbearably lonely. They tormented me the entire time. But I was right.

>>108777115
>How'd you explain the employment gap, which I assume was after your last job, in your resume/interviews?
I was never asked about my employment gap in software related interviews. That being said I had a short note on my resume stating that I've been working on projects and studying while unemployed instead of leaving the time slot between my last job and now blank.
Some advice I saw online from a recruiter forum said that they hate "risk" and ambiguity; they don't care if you're unemployed (for the most part), they just want to know what you've been doing for the last year. And it's also not a deal breaker in interviews, they have probably assumed you're neeting and despite that found you worth interviewing. Just don't tell them you went on a mountain to do ayahuasca and you'll be fine.

Funnily enough In the 3 non tech related interviews I did I was asked about my employment gap twice and I made up a story about studying to go back to college.

>Also did you happen to have a bunch of AI related bullet points in your work experience or just the project?
Yes I "leveraged generative AI tools to significantly increase productive output" at my last job, also put that I had 2 yoe experience using claude / codex, and whenever they asked me about projects or behavioral questions in interviews I defaulted to rambling about my ai work.

Are those meme certs like PMP a necessity in order to get better chances as a PM or BA? I actually dont care about being a codecel anymore and had a project management related internship that was quite manageable actually

Also regarding the superman meme, do you simply tell that you managed to successfully push through with xy meme initiatives and that it greatly helped make corposlop software better by x metrics?
>>
>>108779232
I had no certs, still have no certs, didn't lie about that at all, also I'm a CS grad. About the meme, yep I essentially transformed every time I helped anyone, interacted with a client into or bug fixed into: assisted the team with the X initiative, interacted and something something with stakeholders, reduced the product defect backlog by resolving X issues prioritized by severity, user impact, and release risk, etc.

Not regulations. If you didn't notice yet every politician's direct job is to try to spend as little budget money as possible, so they can pocket the rest. The reason why government apps and such are so dogshit is because the whole budget is stolen and the app is then written by a friend's son who's studying programming or whatever for free. These days it's also probably also AI, but without subscription for pro models because it's a money you can't pocket.

He fronted well. The only red flag was that he had accepted a job and was a few weeks in when we interviewed him, and he said about the job he just started "I'm not sure this is the place for me." Now we understand that they were gonna drop him during his probationary period. Also, he had worked for another branch of the company several years prior, but the team he worked with was all gone (split off into a different company)
I spoke to him once about his behaviour, and he said some stuff using therapy language ("I'm carrying a lot of guilt, man") which makes me think he's in therapy, I'm wondering if his mental illness is getting worse or if he just ran out of meds or what.

Yeah, generally you can get better advice by reading industry trends online and just seeing how the wind is blowing. Taking family for career advice is fucking stupid. They don't know you, they don't listen to YouTube or the news or trade publications or anything, they just parrot off the same stupid shit that worked for them in the 80's and 90's. I still remember my mother refusing to pay my rent in 2015 if I didn't mail my resume out to prospective companies. She paid for it all, but wanted me to type letters and do all the bullshit. It got me fucking bupkis, as my friend's grandma would have said. Jack shit. It's just expensive garbage. Anyway, the point is you probably know what's right.

>>108781208
Those who refuse to use AI will be luddite retards who are left behind. Who the fuck cares? I for one embrace AI. It's quadrupled my output and made me a better creative writer, and I can use it at work to parse gigabytes of logs in minutes, something that used to take hours.

>>108781649
>>108781683
Copilot is just Chat-GPT under a shell, and frankly, I find Copilot to be complete Dogshit compared to a paid Gemini Pro subscription for most things. That being said, I think that Copilot can be slightly better for diagnosing MSFT bullshit. I would not use copilot for creative tasks though.

Yeah, you absolutely fucked that interview. I don't want to hire somebody who is going to badmouth their leadership. And you know what, it's not even about the fact that you bitched, it's two things:

1: You were a negative cunt with a bad attitude
2: You lost control of your emotions. What does that mean when we encounter a stressful situation at work? I don't need somebody who is going to get emotional and need a psych session. I want somebody who can swallow their emotions and bury them and keep working.

Why do furfags get jobs but us trad chads can't even get hired at Gamestop?
>>
>>108780548
>>108782288

2/2

Here's some advice: You need to have a lie or marketing spin ready for each of your jobs and why you are leaving that would be appropriate to business professionals. For example, I worked at a university where we had this Indian Redeemer fuckwit take over as director. I hated him. He made my work life a living hell, and he was a psychopath, and an incompetent racist to boot. Nothing is worse than watching an entire networking team leave and then get replaced by a bunch of his buddies who could speak whatever retarded language he spoke natively. You think my interviewer cares about that? You think they want to hear me bitch? No. We've all had a bad boss, we've all dealt with difficult people. Bitching is running away and not solving the issue. It shows no professional integrity or ability to overcome a situation. And I get it, you can't usurp your boss or challenge him to a duel or clock him upside the back of the head with a 2x4 whatever the fuck. You're in that interview to get away from your boss, most likely.

So don't even talk about it. When I went into my interview, I got asked why I was leaving. You know I said? I said "I am looking for another job because I no longer feel challenged at my current work environment, and wish to grow and develop professionally"

Which is a very easy lie because it is TECHNICALLY TRUE. I wasn't growing in my position, and I wasn't being challenged.

But if they ask directly about your relations to your boss? You say "I strive to maintain a professional working relationship with my superiors" or some such. Because they are asking YOU, not your boss. Even if your boss is a fucking cunt, you control the narrative to the interviewer, and you can play dumb and completely weave a lie to your favor, how in the fuck are they going to verify that? Oh, they could call your boss and ask? Sure, but then it's he said she said, and it boils down to you just having a completely different opinion of the scene.

Given the current state of the economy 200K is the new goal for professionals, while 100K is getting more attainable by lower and lower tiers of white-collar workers simply due to inflation raping your purchasing power, which affects salary and market rates. To put it another way, if you were making 100K in 2005, you were doing much better than somebody making 100K in 2025/2026. Your dollar bought more than it does today.

I am making about 110K USD/year and that's not bad for myself, but I can live thrifty, I shop at thrift stores and bargain hunt for fun and am not a complete fucking retard so I can actually save money. But if you're like the average joe who goes to Kohl's and spends 89 fucking dollars on a pair of shitty pants that last six months, yeah your dollar isn't going as far.

150K is where I could see true comfort for the average person, so I would agree there.

>>108782540
1 Mil wouldn't make you free from wage slavery, even a 1M USD windfall just gives you the ability to stuff your money into a stock fund and pull 4-8 percent a year to supplement your income, which definitely gives breathing room if you say, end up getting laid off, or on disability, or you get a toxic workplace and you need a year to rebalance your head, because 40K-60K year extra income is better than no income when you don't have a job, it keeps the lights on and the bills paid at least. Even with a 1M windfall you would want to be working a good job and dump-charging money into the account to compund off the interest.

> I'm looking at neetcode and leetcode and I can't like fathom how to start to work on these type of problems.
I'll let you onto a secret: these problems are like mathematics, they follow very specific solutions. Most people learn how to solve some of these problems at the university, and then build upon that, and pretend they "figure out these problems".

So try doing few easy problems with naive solutions, then Google proper solutions and memorize these by doing other similar problems. Then move knto more advanced.

This is not an iq test. This is about filtering those who didn't get the tip.

Yeah but how would you estimate the weight of the elephant in the picture

I made a counteroffer to the salary I got offered. The hiring manager said he would have a quick chat with his boss and come back, and came back with this. He said I don’t know how to say this but this is what my boss thinks of your offer.

EUfag here (German to be specific). I am wondering if this applies to American companies as well or if it's just us being retarded as usual.

No one actually decides anything, it's basically the antithesis of micromanagement. I have like 5 layers of management above me. But no one ever says "we are now going to build X". I don't even mean you have to write this code or use that language, I just mean like a general product description.

It's all experiments coming from lower layers and us having to convince management to go along with it. But then you would think management at least sells it or promotes it or aligns it or whatever? But no, we have to sell it too and somehow acquire budget for it.

And then it's not aligned between departments either and since everyone converges to the lowest common denominator, you have 5 different experiments in 5 different departments/kingdoms that are basically 97% similar, the company is trying to sell 5 times the same shit, etc.

The question that outlines this best is always when some exec that's the boss of my boss or something like that comes around and asks "what are you working on?" MOTHERFUCKER it's YOUR department you should KNOW. What do YOU do all day???

Anyway thanks for coming to my TED talk

On Friday, I got a light remark/warning(?) from my HR manager for having pic related as my desktop wallpaper. I told him the guy is a running joke between me and other colleagues, but he said that it's better not have anything "political" as a wallpaper.

What do you make of this? I've seen colleagues with worse wallpapers than this and they never got any remarks. Like, if they really wanted to stop people from having funny images on their workstations, why not enforce something via Group policy??

They're trying cover their asses by making the workplace as blandly inoffensive as possible, it's what HR does. I'd change the wallpaper just to stay off their radar, it's not a hill worth dying on.

i will post this again because i didn't get any replies last time

I used to work in a factory painting metal parts before I went to university and that shit is BORING as fuck
I'd urinonically rather sit in a meeting room with 10 idiot managers than do this shit again
believe me it's fun for 3 days and then it's just the same shit over and over and over again
