They argue for slow incremental change. Blair and Clinton both( appeared) as hard on crime, pro middle class responsible managersThey are moderate enough to get centrist upper/middle class voters to vote for them while left wing enough to get left to vote for them.

After the cold war they simply dropped the pretense that anything would be regulated for the public good.
