Cult film actress/musician, forever underrated.
Starting 2025 off right with the best!
If you enjoy Suspiria, chances are you'll enjoy this thread.
If you enjoy Shock Treatment, chances are you'll also enjoy this thread.
Same goes for Phantom of the Paradise
Pictures will include context when possible, ideally from Jess herself.
Gonna start off by posting some Suspiria 4K screens I took last Jan-Feb.First though, I wanna give a quick shout out to /film/! You know who you are.
Jessica Harper

Would it be wrong to admit that I am very sexually attracted to Jessica?

Any pics during Little Women?
>>4979671Yes. I actually bought a handful of lobby cards/original photographs from the series on eBay for cheap ($6 each). It’s considered lost media so I was fortunate to grab them in near-mind condition.
>>4979996>It’s considered lost mediaHow? Did it burn in a warehouse fire or what?
>>4979996near-mint condition*I’ll make sure to post them eventually btw.>>4980021Consider this:>Little Women aired on TV back in 1979>only six out of ten episodes filmed ended up airing due to low ratings, so it likely never played again after that year (no syndication)>it never received ANY sort of home release and taping live broadcasts wasn’t common until the 80s>NBC also likely wiped the original broadcast as they cancelled a notorious amount of series that year (not to be confused with the CBS rural purge of 1971)Last April, I did some research and considered reaching out to the Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago (Harper’s hometown) to see if they had anything from local NBC affiliates. There’s so very little about the series online I even reached out to a redditor who made a post some years back asking about it themselves, but no response. Outside of a few pictures, one thing I did find was this Times article detailing the series premiere:https://www.nytimes.com/1979/02/10/archives/tvnbc-puts-little-women-on-television.html
>>4980297Do you think they just wiped the originals? I bet they're rotting in some NBC warehouse
>>4980425>Do you think they just wiped the originals?Unfortunately I think it’s likely they wiped the masters at some point to either reuse for another show or save space.>I bet they're rotting in some NBC warehouseUnless someone happened to keep the original 35mm film reels, I don’t see any reason for NBC to keep a copy of the original broadcasts other than for archival reasons. I never called anyone from the network though so it’s all conjecture… there’s a real chance at least one person out there taped an episode back in 1979 that hasn’t fully degraded but it’s unlikely.
>You may remember [Harper] from the short-lived TV series "Little Women." The fact that it was short lived pleased her; in fact, she only took the part because her agent assured her the series would not last, could not last.>"We were on opposite 'Mork and Mindy' which was then very hot, and my agent said our show, being on against 'Mork and Mindy,' could only last ten shows. In fact, it only lasted six shows. I liked the people on it, so I was sorry for them and for the people who did it, but I didn't want a series."-Excerpt from a 1981 article detailing the Little Women series; picrel is a colorization I did of a b/w promo pic.
>>4981054>the original 35mm film reelsI mean, they surely must be somewhere right? We're not talking about exploding nitrate reels from the 20s burnt in a warehouse fire in the 50s, it's recent shit. Why would they film a series and destroy the negatives when it flops? They already paid for it, destroying the whole thing is completely retarded
>>4981054>>4981148I went through the public copyright catalog and found listings for the six episodes. The copyrighted episodes are on 16mm film and owned by Universal City Studios. They're most likely being kept at NBCUniversal's huge film archives. Absolutely zero chance Universal would've destroyed any film copies on purpose. If the film reels are gone, it would be due to something unfortunate like a vault fire. It's very probable that the episodes still exist, but I doubt they will ever re-release them.
>>4981332Great post, thanks for looking into this! I figured the series was shot on either 35mm or 16mm film. I may take it further and contact someone from NBCUniversal and see what I can find out. As it stands right now, the episodes are impossible to watch publicly, similar to Harper's appearance on NBC Children's Theatre.
>ESCHERSTRAßE!
>>4981860She looks really sexy all wet
>>4981861Very true!
Perfection.
A quick deviation from Suspiriaposting this Saturday night to highlight Harper’s first on-screen film appearance: Taking Off (1971) dir. by Milos Forman.>>>/wsg/5782846
This film was shot during her Hair stint on Broadway. I love that she appears as an audition singer and it predates the Special to Me audition in Phantom of the Paradise by three years!
Aspiring professionals such as Kathy Bates perform original songs and it’s a fantastic film. You even hear Jessica’s name called in a later scene, indicating she herself had an audition but unfortunately, her scene was cut from the film and the audition song wasn’t included on the Taking Off soundtrack.>mfw
>>4981557If you want mention in your email that several people would like to see that kino. I didn't even know it existed before your thread but now I want to see it since I'm a sperg for lost media
>When I was a college student in the late '60s, I was almost chosen to be a cover girl for Mademoiselle magazine. But it turned out to be a lesson in curbing your great expectations...
Here’s one more pic showing Jess on the soundtrack cover; if you look at the Taking Off cast section on IMDb, she is credited as "Jessica Harper"/herself though she was uncredited in the actual film.Bonus Carly Simon webm with sound: >>>/wsg/5782935
>>4979539I really couldn’t agree more!>>4983166I probably won’t look into it for a bit but I’ve gotten back into lost media recently so we’ll see…
>I just wanted to talk to you about some of the things that have been happening here lately.

>>4984730>If only he wasn’t under that bitch Tanner’s thumb…
Might as well start posting all the webms I made last year. Here’s one sourced from an original 35mm print distributed by 20th Century Fox here in the US under a shell company (International Classics) back in August ‘77.Upon initial release, Fox butchered Suspiria for the American audience by removing several crucial kills, yet it was still a box-office hit!
Forgot to post this with the other taxi pics. Suspiria 4K could fill a thread alone with so many kino shots
Argento cameo in the bottom left corner.

This woman really does it for me because i'm a big "eyes" guy. Snood, Anya Taylor-Joy... Jessica is on that level easily of just gorgeous eyes
