No one is reviving the thread and I think it's so sweet that /ic/ has a space for this, so I guess it depends on me now

Old OP here, thanks for bringing this back! I fucked up and forgot to bump the last thread. I really enjoyed the artwork people were posting so I was kinda bummed but wasn't sure if I should revive it. Out traveling rn but if there's anything I can do to help spruce up the thread pls lemme know! Old thread >>6801693There were lots of resources in there if anybody wants them, will probably compile a list when I return.
I love horses
>>6953137Thanks for the threads! Don't worry, take your timeI think we should recommend some books later, I understand this is a slow thread since it's a bit niche topic around here. Hell, I'm here only because of a college project, but still it's pleasant to have something like this around.Pic related
Here's a sloth, it moves at the same speed that people add art to the nature thread
anyone can share any guides on painting anymals?

>>6955077Ohh you're the storybook anon! Glad to see you're still around, I really enjoy your work. As for the books, yes definitely! Hopefully once the holidays are done we can get a nice list compiled. >>6956179Very cute sloth, would nap with/10

>>6966575Incredibly based tradchad. Looks fun!
>>6966575that looks very cool, I always stuck with digital and water color so I never tried it but it looks like you could make some really cool effects with it, especially when paired with a light strategically placed. For example could give the impression of clouds in drawing horizontal lines, using just the color of the sky and the light shining on the paint ridges to create the illusion.>>6966558thank you, here's another one I did in the same period with the same setting.
>>6965919>>6968288Love these, very unique style.

It's a small company and basically they recognized a hummingbird species endemic to their region and fell in love with itSo with some government funding, some tweaking here and there, 12 extra pages and I can finally publish my very own book I think I will add more birds and butterflies since I think that's what readers like the mostMaybe some few mammals and a frog, just because

I want to do more bgs this year, so I've been practicing using textures with blocky shapes. I think they look okay from a distance, but I'm thinking I should probably push these more so that they also look interesting up close too.>>6956179>>6965919Love these!>>6986251And I love this guy.

>>7008508Very nice watercoloring, it's so easy to mess up with yellow since it's so overpowering especially in the backgrounds, but you used just the right amount to make the rest of the piece really pop!
>>7011309>bill berry markswhat are those? awesome drawings btw
>>7012845yep it's charcoal, just started using it as I'm trying to do more trad work >>7013345thanks m8, Bill Berry was a goated wildlife artists out in alaska and he often used flicking lines around the contour to indicate fur. a nature journaling instructor named John Muir Laws put a name to the technique >pic related I highly recommend John's content if interested in learning to draw nature better, it's helped me a lot
>>7012845>it's trad too isn't it? Fantastic work.Yes. Gouache on paper. The most time-consuming bit was painting all that grass.

>>7044697Nice mountains. Are these watercolor/goache? Your blending is really nice
>>7046591You know it's funny. I was planning on painting this piece with gouache, but I was blocking everything in with marker and watercolor pencil, and I realized, it didn't need anything else.
>>6950655I really cant figure out how to paint grassy environments like pic related (peder monsted) What the fuck do you do to paint grass digitally? Do you just need to hyper rely on grass brushes? Can i do it with simple hard rounds like i do to paint everything else i draw?

---Fairy book update---I talked with my editor, we signed a contract and now the project is officialI won't be able to post more images tho, but it's cool!He needs to cut some content and change the focus of the book a bit so it's more fitting with his catalogue, the market and people's interests
>>7088199Congrats for making it official!!
>>7088199Based storybook anon. Thanks for sharing what you did when you could. Cheers!
>>7089702>>7092430Thanks guysAlso, as I was talking to him and signing the contract, I was carrying my suitcase full of the unsold merch I sell at cons.He was curious to see my personal work and loved my OCs, he asked me if they had backstory or something we could make into a comic. It's nice to hear that from a professional, but also it's frustrating since I like drawing my OCs more than anything. Sure, this project is something I like doing too, but drawing for myself nurtures my soul and It's fun to design characters for the sake of it.I always stepped aside from those projects since people on cons only want to buy fanart and teachers find anime/cartoons disgusting, so I tried with a more traditional approach for this project. Only to discover, what I like was viable all along. But anyways, I wouldn't made it so far without the traditional approach so I guess it was the only way. And my contract expires in 5 years, so I can surely work with my OCs in the future.
Ice age sketches
>>6950655Did a bunch of water studies this year, I will post all of the completed (mostly) ones, oldest to most recent.Mountains are hard. I don't know if i should be taking on the mindset of grass (or water as I've learned my approach is similar), "I can't draw every single detail/blade of grass. With brush techniques (different brushes) I will achieve sexy mountain." or if I should be trying to draw as accurately as possible

>>6968288Damn I really like these. You can also see the influence from your experience with watercolor in your digital work. The way you mix colors and those confident brushstrokes are really appealing. As someone who's mainly done drawing and digital painting I would like to see you push those shapes a little bit more maybe. Like the volume of the clouds, the reflections of the water, the separation between ground and the horrizon. But these are of course personal preferences.Wish you the best of luck and hope you keep having fun with it.

How does one get into drawing backgrounds/scenery? Do I really have to learn hardcore perspective or would my "it looks good 'nuff" perspective knowledge suffice? I wanna draw dilapidated mega architecture with overgrowth of all kinds. Also, mechs. (but that's besides the point, I wanna work my way up to cyborgs first)
>>7144351i also have the "looks good nuff" knowledge of perspective and i think my work on landscapes isn't that bad, but setting a character up in a 3 dimensional *room* still kicks my ass :)

I'm getting mindbroken by plants. I have no idea how to break them down in a way that I can simplify, understand, and compose. For example, how would you go about painting this without getting bogged down in the details?
