GOOD MORNING US-BEG I HAVE A FEELING IT'S GONNA BE A WONDERFUL DAY
Trying to draw without references a bit
First time trying shading in a while. Thoughts?
>>7141394use ref

I force myself to draw for 20 minutes every day to engrain the habit and I don't know if I'm getting anywhere but it's probably a lot better than drawing for 0 minutes a day
>>7141295this is a masterpiece

I didnt consent to having my ugly as fuck shit in the OP, holy crap he looks like a zombie, I feel like zoomer/curly hair will always evade me.Anyways, here's some lineart, I have no idea on lineart techniques or how to move on to colouring/shading that shit.

>>7141553post shape languagelet me see your shape language
>>7141616better shape language and 3D formsdrapery is all about those 2 things
>>7141556you should move to muscle and expressions because i see no point on making several skulls if you already get, even a little, the key points of shapes and prominent bones. You only need that to elaborate with the actual expression because the skull dont help much with their... dynamism. If you already understand that then you should just make fast key points on the sketchs to get the expression correctly. Unless you want let say... make figures with really marked bones in their faces, or skeletons, things like that. Also if you are actually interested in bones then you can build on that and try animal skulls. >>7141394the point of using the simple directional ligthing is that you need to be consistent to make it work, if you dont is not gonna look right, or, is not gonna contribute much with the colors.
Couldn't finish this but I like how it came out so far
Hello there fellow begfriends, I'm not sure how to approach the physics on these boobs that are getting pressured by a swimsuit, so a bit of help wold be very appreciated

What's the process to coming up with your own stylized art style for drawing characters? I'm basically /beg/ still and I'd like to just sit down and pull up a picture of a person and come up with my own own way to draw eyes, hair, etc. But I doubt this is how people actually come up with their style. What was your process?
Is there a good place to learn how to draw arms and legs? I draw bodies okay but I seem to have problems with making the limbs either too long or too short

>>7141764ah I didn't know you counted the head as "half the body", I got'cha now. Looks like the arms are about the length of the torso

Where can I find real-life hires references for clothes and dresses specifically? I want to draw maids and lolita-style girls, but google gives me shitty cheap cosplays in low res

>>7141766the angles and proportions are wrongdo more observational drawing first
>>7141767I usually have better luck searching by specific brands and setting the image size to large (under the Tools menu). Runway photos tend to be nice and high res, so if you search [Brand Name] + [Season] + [Year] you can find some good refs that way as well (provided said brand does runway shows). For lolita-style stuff specifically, I came across https://lolibrary.org/ which seems like it could be a decent resource. Seems to be a mixed bag in terms of res tho
Random stuff I drew today. I’m having trouble drawing “depth.” As in portraying the concaveity of holes like eye sockets.
>>7141778>>7141789Thanks bros

>>7141766my attemptI followed the 3d model
I know the relative proportions are off (the sphere is too wide/ovular), but I'm particularly interested in improving my shading in pencil. the lighter portion was drawn with 2H graphite, and the halftone and shadow in HB.

>>7141766Your drawing too messily and destroying any kind of readability, which you kinda want to be able to clearly see what mistakes need fixing. You can't do that if you can't even tell what is a genuine mistake vs just shit smear. Two, your kinda over exaggerating everything. Her leg doesn't need to be that wavy to get down the core forms, and whether or not you want that kinda exaggeration as your "style" you can more easily refine those shapes later after the core forms are down. And lastly, i think you're too focused and tunnel visioned about all the exact forms the subject is built of but neglecting to think about the basic proportions of those shapes and forms. A hammer is a box and a cylinder but if the box is smaller then the cylinder it's not gonna read as a hammer.

Is drawing boxes, cylinders and triangles really gonna make me better at drawing?I can see that many real life objects can be simplified with those three shapes, but is it really that simple?
>>7141295another banger OP, you're probably the only good thing left about this board
>>7142272Can you draw anything if you can't draw those three effortlessly really? Simple shapes come help as a crutch. You will make do without them later, but they will still be useful when you have something weird to draw, that you don't understand, so you simplify again. Also you can be creative with any form. Try drawing them differently, bend them, cut them in half, cut out pieces of them, rotate them, make box, cylinder, pyramid characters, or stack them together. Not so simple really.

This is what I was able to pull off today. Basically this was a preliminary for a commission someone wants me to do. So I decided to try and nail down how she looked but in a more anime like art style. Granted, it doesn't look exactly like her, but prior to this I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to draw her properly, and since I was quite tired and still recovering from a bad week it was frustrating, but after a while I got the hang of it and I think I got her looking "okay" enough that I felt satisfied. The client was also happy with how I drew her too. I realised that I really need to learn how to draw eyes and noses and so on and so forth, I had to use an anime eye reference sheet for the eye shape, as drawing her realistic eye shape just didn't really work...doesn't help that my brush was too thick which made capturing the shape almost impossible until I lowered it, and then it became easier to do. I sadly won't do anymore today as my drawing glove has gotten too sticky and I need to wash it, and I just wanna do other stuff, but I would like to hear some critiques if possible.
>>7142072likely the latter, he's a notorious faggot after all. months of siccing soda to shit up the board because he can't stand getting crits. I wouldn't be surprised he's doing that as some inane way to try to crab you.

Is it a good idea to try picking up drawing when I'm already struggling with burnout and depressive tendencies (probably not actual MDD but I can't get diagnosed anyway)? I just veg out on the couch after work now, and trying to draw even for just 5 minutes daily without breaks is proving to be a challenge. I feel like I really do want to be able to draw, just not sure if I actually want it enough. If I did, I probably would've been drawing already, right?

>>7142432>If I did, I probably would've been drawing already, right?it's not just about the quantity of your want, but the quality as well. you may want something very intensely but think it impossible to achieve, for instance; in other words, a futile passion. you, though - and correct me if I'm wrong - don't seem completely hopeless. so perhaps it simply is a matter of the degree of your desire.>Is it a good idea to try picking up drawing when I'm already struggling with burnout and depressive tendencies?there are people better than I to make an educated guess, but I would guess that it depends on the person. there are some people who feel drained in the current hum-drum of their life and would greatly benefit from a hobby that brings them joy. but depending on your specific state, maturity, etc., you could exacerbate your negative emotions when you try to draw and end up hating everything you create. the only way to figure out the answer to your question is to try it out yourself.

>>7142723one of the worst things you can do is work through a small portion of a book and jump to the next because you're unsure of your progress, and then do that again and again and again. I'm not saying you'll do that, but that is a trend for beginners (and was something I've done myself) just try to vet what you're consuming and earnestly try to take from it what you can. the good thing about books is that they'll always be there to go back to. don't feel like you got all of the info on your first read but you did get some good bits here and there? well, if you want you can move onto something else. and if you wanna go back and learn some more, you got the book at your fingertips (physically or digitally).

>>7142753It's just starting simple. A box can help simplify stuff like perspective and it's easier to draw and conceptualize than most anything else. I recommend drawing what you like and then drawing whenever is around you, taking time to observe the object, its proportions, how it's positioned (Draw what you see, not what you know).Don't worry about not being good, that takes time. Just have fun with it and take your time.

>>7142636I've typed a long well-thought-out response yesterday and apparently 4chan just ate it. I'll try again I guess.I'd like to believe I haven't fully lost hope yet, but I do feel rather despondent on most days. I can only work in short bursts of motivation and any attempt at discipline and habit-forming falls apart after said motivation peters out.Aversion to goals deemed impossible is something I know full well - it's how it feels looking at the works of artists who had spent years, if not decades, improving their craft, while being a complete beginner myself. At the same time, the idea of giving up completely doesn't sit right with me either. I just can't let go for some reason. Not to be overly dramatic (challenge impossible), but I would describe it as being stuck in a sort of limbo.

>>7143203>it's how it feels looking at the works of artists who had spent years, if not decades, improving their craft, while being a complete beginner myselfI can appreciate this sentiment, as I have been there myself, and my best advice would be to lower your expectations. Carl Jung said that life cannot go forward except from the place one happens to be. in other words, you're simply not going to get to your favorite artist's level without going through various intermediary stages. progress can be non-linear and you can have instances of rapid growth, but on the whole it will take time, perhaps decades. I realize accepting the reality of things is not as simple as snapping your finger or merely thinking about it once and having a complete personality shift, but the repeated process of trying to come to grips with your abilities and what it will take to get there should help you to see some progress there. I have also reframed my aspirations: once I started thinking long-term - that it may be 15-20 years until I get to where I am confident in my abilities, I have found myself to be a lot more accepting of my artistic shortcomings. but that's because I'm in it for the long haul. also try not to bite off more than you can chew. Steve Huston has a good video on this, about finding a sweet spot of difficulty to maximize gains: https://youtu.be/Cmhv1ZoCDUs?si=ZB6n4kQxEkmvO7ZE too easy is boring, too hard is disheartening. also, try to be aware that your emotions aren't necessarily true: you don't *have* to agree with your hopelessness, your frustration. If I did, I would have remained a quitter a few years ago and would've never decided that giving up on art doesn't sit right with me either. now I'm 4~ years in and have been making clear improvements with the time I'm given. I'm still not good, but perhaps one day I'll get there. I just don't want to live with the regret of not trying, and it seems like part of you doesn't either.

Advice? I draw traditional tattoo type designs, they are fairly cartoony and within my skill level, I plan to continue but want to get better at art in general.I can pay (a bit) what art class should I buy? I pirated a bunch but they were all too basic desu, cartoonish/lowbrow stuff is ideal - should I sign up to Udemy?

Man, I still have so much to go, can't help but compared myself to actual skilled people but those also have years of experience.
>>7143711>>7143220IDK man, I just kinda draw an overall peanut shape and adjust the shape, height and width for the character and then just treat the face kinda like a doll, imagining not only the cross center line, but also the cheek and forehead lines to help place the planes better.tldr; Loomis but with shapez, fitting in the sphere after the fact and not at the beginning

Somebody please help me, I'm making this piece as a gift and I really don't want to fuck it up. The picture is on the right is what I had down as the thumbnail, but the client wanted the character's physique to be a little stockier, like a strongman, which I think kinda fucked me up. >>7143684>If you can’t tell on your own then you really should give up.Don't be such a cryptic asshole anon. That person's work is just a bit flat, if they work a bit more on form and perspective they'll be fine. No clue why you wanted to cast doom on them for just asking questions

Here's what I learned as a 76 day beg this is gonna be gay if you guys want I can post my work but it's on my DAD gallery>don't say, do>draw what you see, not what you know>you're going to have bad days but it's best to keep going>don't compare yourself to anyone>find enjoyment in drawing>don't be too hard on yourself instead balance between being critical and doing it for fun similar to the 50/50 rule that guy said>Just do it, failure is key in everything and you'll learn something everyday you draw>have a habit This graph helped me a lot as well

Can anyone give me some tips for why my art is all over the place? Both are imagination sketches but I like the bottom one much more. A lot of my drawings just turn into incoherent scribbles while some of them look pretty neat. I wish all my drawings could look like the bottom one. It seems kind of random.
>>7144128Have you tried not scribbling
