>>7144421yes you are correct, there are many small compounding errors that are adding up to more than the sum of their parts in the final imageit's entirely too difficult and absolutely pointless to try and fix it now, you've probably already looked at it too much and it's beginning to embed itself as a pattern in your brain, you'll just correct one thing to notice that it threw 3 other things out of whack which might look good to you at the time but still be wrong, move on, there's nothing more to learn, if you want to learn, redraw it, if you absolutely must fix this particular drawing, don't look at or think about it for a week or more and then try again with fresh eyes

>>7144574No. Primarily because if you suck, the trace is obvious as such and probably looks worse than what you can draw freehand. To trace a 3D model in such a way that it looks good, you need the skill to make a character drawing look good in the first place. I remember reading Rosario Vampire way back and immediately noticed that is was traced 3D, but as time went on and the series concluded in vol 14 of S2, it was impossible to tell if it still used 3D for posing (which it did) It is a time saving tool first and foremost.

>>7144515Give the guy some forearms and put some of those fingers together. Remember the index usually likes to stand out a bit and/or keep some distance from the other 3.Since he's grabbing onto something, the thumb would wrap around the object, not stick out like it is doing in the pic.Seek references or try a similar pose yourself, see how your arms and hands behave.

>>7145042>>7145023Of course for doing a womans hands you would de-emphasize the structure
>>7145023>>7145040Besides that if you practice constructing a hand enough you’ll get it, but you really have to do hand practice separate from the body you have to give yourself room to draw it and really understand it. Trying to slap hands on a figure in your notebook will undoubtedly lead to bad hands. So practice these anon just a page of shapely hands a week, and you’ll have them in no time.

Observational copying.I honestly don't know what the hell I am doing, looks quite deformed but I assume it's a mileage thing that I just have to keep working on. How do I take measures like Right Side and Keys told me if it's on a screen with a pen tablet instead of a physical canvas that always stays the same size?
>>7145099Not bad, but you’re not building you character and getting your structure right before you move on.

>>7145107>but you’re not building you character and getting your structure right before you move onElaborate on what this means. Also, I tend to want to move on sooner rather than later, because I noticed that I waste shitloads of time on studies and practice fixing every tiny thing instead of just cashing the rep and doing another one. Mileage.
>>7145109It's pretty much off everywhere, in the sense that everything is oddly sized relative to everything else. Tunnel vision of sorts.
>>7144869The torso looks fine, but his legs are way too long. Keep in mind that, in terms of realistic proportions, the middle point of an adult's full-body height is located at around the level of the pubic bone, with that of the hip joints being placed slightly above the latter.
>>7145115are you doing a block-in with straight lines? that could help you with general shapes and proportions, without getting bogged down in detail
>>7145113>>7145115What this anon said, it looks like your trying to mimic the outline instead of building a simplified version of the character to make sure your proportions are correct before adding details.
>>7145120I'll try that for my next copy. Can I get away with tracing the block-in over the image and copying the rest, or should I do the block-in and copy raw like before?>>7145121I'm still kind of scared of doing construction on my tablet since my pen control is pretty awful and I can't draw circles, straight lines, and so forth to save my life. >>7145127I'm being extra nitpicky, but the cut of her bangs is slanted towards the left, and the comparatively thicker upper lashes of the furthermost eye make it appear just a tiny bit taller than the foreground one. Also, I think that her face would look slightly better if the eye on the right were placed just a couple of pixels lower, so thay its alignment with the left one becomes "truly" horizontal.Lastly, the highlights on both eyes are placed at different levels.

>>7145140~.~ I lost some of my old images cause my comp died but luckily I checked warosu and someone had reposted it on another thread, here's the settings for the custom brush I made a while back on sai 2. Sensitivity size is also 0 and at high hardness so a light touch should be able to give you a faded pixel even at large canvas/brush sizesThank you anon, I like to use as fewer single strokes ever since I saved up for the tablet, in the past I did do the erase think when I had a mouse lol hope this helps you.

>>7145292Do it anon, become hands.
>>7145288Cool ref image. I can't give a good critique because the way you took that photo tweaks the original proportions of your drawing due to the camera angle. So I don't know if her head is too small or her torso is too big, or it's just the angle of the camera giving that impression. But I like the way you did the silhouette, that's good, blocking shapes like that helps with doing much with less.Keep up the good work anon.

>>7145618Sometimes they do know better sometimes they don't. Better is also subjective but even beginners can spot obvious/objective mistakes, so it's good to hear them out sometimes. If the advice compromises your ideal look too much don't take it to heart.

>>7145622imo redlines are a crutch, especially for begs, the redline might show them the correct way somethings is meant to be but they won't learn from it and internalize it the same way they would if they got critique and then fixed or tried to fix the drawing themselves
>>7145668cutethe faces look pasted on, the hands also need work, and the hat girl's arms are of wildly different lengths
>>7145668flex the small girl right arm more, i mean, more widespread, you made the forearm too long. Feet can be detailed later easily with references, same with the hands that are a little disproportionate. I think that's the most important things to look the rest work ok with the general image
>>7145668hands and feet look godawful. suwako's arms are too long
>>7145670i dont usually make redlines but for that reason i always write in the image to tell the things, because yeah redlines dont really tell you anything.
>>7145670the redline is just a noise filterpreferable to miss out on a bit of good advice than to listen to retards
>>7145614I gave you an entire section of feedback. Read the section of the book i posted and apply it. Your hatred of the material make it no less valid, and is like a baker hating a cook book because it doesn’t make delicious cakes in a fashion he favors. Anyway here’s some loomis you can complain about too.
>>7145668Your hands aren’t up to the quality of the rest of your work
>>7145668That foot as well, your bodies are nice and shapely.
>>7145288try to also draw with long unbroken continuous lines, might help build confidence
>>7145668Besides those small nitpicks great work anon, just need to get in that foot fag and hand master race practice to be solid.
>>7145140Looks like generic G-pen brush
>>7145679Look I already told you, the lesson isn't about learning to draw hands. This shit is useless to me right now. Do I have to post pages so you get it through your head?
>>7145696What the fuck is this?
>>7145339Yes, but visually it can be more complicated. Theres an optical illusion near hard edges where because of the contrast between the light and dark planes, the edge touching the light plane will appear darker than the rest and especially the edge of the same place but next to a darker one. Idk if it makes sense written like this but basically its a contrast thing. It can be stylistically rendered like he did
>>7145700It's from KtD, the book I said I'm working with, the one literally everybody here keeps recommending.
>>7145709I see where bert’s coming from but don’t think this will be very helpful without some understanding of form, like all his examples from students of “various skill” have some ingrained knowledge of how a hand is put together, what it’s proportions are, and so drawing it via this method is more constructive to their development as an artist.
>>7145720this is an observation exercise, an anti-symbol drawing exercise. you don't need to know about hand forms you need to draw what you see.
>>7145722I can’t really you get better at this exercise as i find this exercise hogwash for beginners, In my opinion you need to practice copying things as precisely as you can and then worry about what ever this is later once you’ve grasp some basic capability to draw.
>>7145554Clean up the lines? looks pretty good
>>7145494>you are mostly correctand where am I incorrect? I don't say that in a hostile way, I just want to gain a better understanding of light theory (as I am a /beg/let, as previously mentioned).
>>7144590Another one today. Ik it's still very beg but somewhat of an improvement maybe? I think I'm drawing the cheeks kinda weird, plus I'm still having some trouble making the eyes look the same (and not uncanny)
>>7145744use ref
>>7145730Okay so if I'm not supposed to start with this what the hell do I start with?
>>7145745This was with a ref lolI mostly use photo references, are drawn references better?
>>7145671>>7145672>>7145674>>7145681>>7145687Wow thanks. It's a lot of good feedback. I noticed something was wrong with the arms of the little one too, but I couldn't figure what. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction with that .Regarding hands, I used to do pose practice with that Posemaniacs hand 3d viewer but I stopped, I need to that again and maybe go for a construction approach too since I often get comments about my hands being worse than the rest. But they are so hard mang I still don't get them fully.Once again. Thanks a lot for the feedback!! I really appreciate it.
>>7145736in real reality, value on any plane most of the time will be gradient for reasons, even if it's hard to notice. But value change==plane change is a good/smart/useful way to treat direct light.
>>7145751post the refboth are good to practice, line drawings are easier to copy
>>7145758Here's what i used
hello lisaheads
>>7145763idk why it got so fucking compressed
>>7145750Start with the greeks
>>7145761for self-critique, overlay your drawing to your ref; adjusting its size to minimize deviation (but keeping its original width/height ratio)a common issue when starting out is to place the facial features too high in the face, which you can see in pic relatedthe features are also too big, which is another common mistake
>>7145755that makes sense, particularly when you think about reflected light. thanks.
>>7145773Oh I see, thanks for the tip, I gotta do this more. Would starting on a bit bigger format help help with the size of the features or not really? I'm using a small notebook, maybe that's why i struggle for example making the eyes smaller (here's pic for size reference)
>>7145789yeah seems a bit small, try at least an A4 starting outforgot to mention, make sure you take the photo perpendicular to the drawing, to avoid perspective distortion which might mislead the overlay step
>>7145793Alright noted. Thanks again!
A rough outline of where I plan to do the shading. Going for a more stylized shadows look like persona or comic books. Any crits on that?ignore the line art it's just a test and the batman owlman drawing.
>>7145618what an egoistic manchildngmi>>7145768cool
I can't come up with anything originalWell I can but it looks like absolute shit. i'd rather just study fundies.
I was out all day so I finally tried drawing from life instead of just doing quick book studies. felt kind of nice. What do you think?
>>7145797Are you going to do some hatching to define your forms?
>>7145806I love doing soft sketches of trees its very relaxing
>>7145618No hope of making it. Will forever do begtier coomshit like sonichu and never improve
>>7145750Continue.Reading.Keys.To drawing. The book teaches observational drawing. Observation is essential to every artist. Please keep reading.
>>7145797>>7145806nah, here is some references for the style
>>7145554whatever you want, but remember that you need to keep the consistency in the shit that's all, if you are gonna make shadows keep them logical, dont use blurred brushes if you are not gonna do realism or shit, and if you do then keep them delimited as you do cel-shading with a hard brush, defining the shapes correctly and not randomly. The most easy to do right know should be taking more time to do correctly the lines, for the painting yeah any way you want, with a solid linework should look ok as long as you don't start inventing things.
>>7145834
>>7145632Well said.
>>7145834which moriko artist are you
Iam still NGMI so fuck your shit thread
>>7145870you always will be with that attitude
>>7145826But apparently I need to learn form before I can do that..So I ask again: Where the hell do I start?
>>7145880You start by just doing whatever you want there's no correct way now grind ktd or forms, stop being a howie
I'm so proud of the howie that he's still able to get these retards to give out (You)s. It's an honest grind.
>NOOOOOO U CANT JUST USE SOMEONE ELSES PROPORTIONS AND CLAIM THEM AS YOURE OWNhahaha scp 3d head go brrrrr
>>7145826that book helped me but i still cant draw gesture. my cartoons look stiff...i might be doing something wrong. i need to improve my observational skills as well.
>>7145084Thanks man. tried to some of the poses from memory, not really satisfied with the result (surprisingly I find it harder than doing a pose from imagination) but seems like a fun exercise.
>>7145886Anon I'm gonna be as clear with you as possible:I tried doing my own thing first, all that happened was that people kept pestering me to KtD. So I did that and got told that I'm shit at it. So tried doing my own thing again and guess what fucking happened? So it would be really nice to get some advice that doesn't put me in a fucking loop.
>>7145889But how does he do it?
do any of you anons have low self-esteem when it comes to drawing? how do you deal with it
>>7145926crabs just make me want to continue out of spite
>>7145926Anti depressants and alcohol !
>>7145926Complaining, apparently
>>7145926It comes and goes. Sometimes I feel I can draw the hottest anime bitches and sometimes I feel like a complete fraud drawing shitty scribbles
>>7145904the first pose is completely meaningless
>>7145412I attempted a few changes
>>7145934meaningless as in ‘failed to make it remotely close’?
>>7145910Continue KtD and leave this place. Maybe come back when you have finished the book. Not a joke.Don't answer. Just go draw Howie.
>>7145947Don't reply to the "meaningless pose" anon.
>>7145948Okay sure excellent idea, continue with the book that I'm struggling with. Surely putting myself through mental exhaust will help my skllls improve.
>>7145947as in the pose is bad and shouldn't be drawn because it's awkward and unnatural. No person/character imaginable would do this in any scenario, it's just "pose reference pack" slop
>>7145625I'm gonna steal your bat loli and make her into a full character design ;]
>>7144387Is that Love Life Drawing thing in the OP actually worth it?
thoughts
>>7145968Nothing was ever learned without struggle, my weakling friend
>want to draw something original>have few to no fucking creativityhow do i cope or fix this
>>7146041draw some cool rocks
when i zoom out of the picture, the girl on the right looks like a serene old man and it's driving me nuts
>>7146044that looks like an elephant
Will copying photos help you improve?
guys what is the secret behind cute anime girls?i cant draw them anymore and i feel more depressed every day
Critique please. I'm trying to draw an OC I left in my brain for too long. I spent most of my time drawing a different one over and over and I think I should just knuckle down and draw every one of them rather than neglect them to the point their design is lost to me. I still haven't grasped the basics but as long as I can burn through a sketchbook and not feel like it's a total waste of paper I'm satisfied with any progress accumulated.
>>7145427
>>7146115my fwarking hero
I can't draw folds, they always look awkwardI read a few books on folds and I sometimes copy from referencebut when I use my imagination (pic related) they always look weirdI don't want to use references all the time
>>7146126another example, they look awkwardI want to be good enough to be able to draw a short comic or mangawhat are some artists who know really well how to simplify folds and all that
>>7146025But I shouldn't be struggling with the fucking beginner book now should I?For the love of God just recommend me something I don't want to do this book anymore, all it's doing is making me aggravated.
>>7146130wut?
>>7146132allow me to translate, "wah wah wah wah wah"
>>7146130Your two options are to>Power through>QuitOnly one of them will lead you to getting better at art. There's nothing else to be said besides empty platitudes.
>>7146130>I shouldn't be struggling with the fucking beginner book now, should I?/int/ herethat's normal, the beginning is the hardest part, it gets easier from there (until you plateau, and you stop seeing gains and you feel burnt out)beginners books are super hard in my opinion, there's no way a person without any experience can make perfect copies of these drawingskeep going, you're like a newborn deer, the first steps are always awkward
>>7146143>>7146144stop replying to the resident schizo you fucking retards
>>7136075Which artists are your main inspiration?>>7144396Do you go by anything or is it just this here gen?
>>7144387>Keys to drawing>Art and science of drawing>Draw a box (Lesson 0-2)>(YOUR RECC HERE)Where the FUCK should i start, is had a passing read of the first two and they are different philosphies.
>>7146157I hate saying it but just drawDo something you wanna do and actually put effort, it lets u see what u need to work on
Took a bit of a break from faces and tried drawing some poses from a drawn reference, just trying to copy the ref as close as I could. Really enjoyed it
>>7146152>Which artists are your main inspiration?Yoh YoshinariViktor KalvachevChing YehPietro AntognioniOff the top of my head. There's a lot more.
>>7146157I literally just started drawing for the first time ever (ignoring scribbles made as a toddler or whatever) using a family member's tablet and chose Keys to Drawing.
>>7146143>>7146144So there really is no other way then huh?God I don't wanna quit, but fuck I might have to.
>>7146253based. keep it up and keep drawing instead of lamenting over "how?"
I do a little Dodson or Everson or Bridgman hoping to get "better" one day. My accuracy is good but my other fundamentals are lacking and I don't make any art of my own, just copies and lessons. It's been a year of this. Now I start to think that my goal is one day to paint.but I've never tried. I don't even feel I can draw; I'm sure I have to be able to draw first, but I doubt I'll reach a fixed point where I think "Okay, now I know how to draw, time to learn to paint."
>>7146157what do you want to draw
>>7146253> He can't even draw the shoesYeah you're NGMI
>>7146280Comics so i have to have knowledge of all main types of drawing i suppose.
>>7146286try to draw a comic
make a new damn thread already pawell
>haven't tried to do anything artistic in 10 years>get gifted a tablet>try doing some fanart for a vtuber i like>worthlesly spent the last 6 hours on this, when i have work and finals to study forThere it is, that feeling of worthlessness that caused me to stop. I get its been a decade with no practice, and its digital which i've done tried all of 5 times so I shouldn't be upset, but man its like every feeling just rushed back and its somehow fucking worse>have no confidence in my lines so i chicken scratch everything>even with reference next to the image, still cant get the proportions right>I do not understand digital media so the attempts at coloring are even more patheticat least mischief is cool, I always hated zooming in and being met with pixels.
>>7146553You're just expecting way too much of yourself up front. You need to strike a balance and have fun with drawing, be more loose, let yourself fail more. I can tell that you hone in extremely hard and obsess with perfection in mind. I recommend aiming for more sketches rather than focusing on one for hour, you won't get as much mileage tweaking pixel even though it can be addicting. Of course you'll get frustrated if your expectations exceed your skill. Even minor practice benefits you immensely and you already know what work needs to be done just take it one at a time. boob too high but that can be fixed in 2 seconds flat with digital, I like it.
>>7146553it looks good but I can't see anything :/
Sketch from imagination

>>7146704they’re straight enough
>>7146906I forgot to put /beg/ and /int/ in the subject I'm killing myself
