Im stopping here, I don't like my art it feels really directionless most of the time and it's pretty ugly too. What should I study to develop a better style / comptetence for drawing Venus women

How do I get started with painting besides doing greyscale still lifes?
How do you make static poses look so dynamic?Araki's done it a bunch, but i just don't get the principle. I guess that's what 50 years in the craft gets you but still.

You might find a lot of traditional art not very inspirational. But you're not looking at them to be entertained or inspired if you're studying. You're trying to understand their method. It's okay to be bored. If you're such a child you can't work. It has to be play. Then you're fucked.

I posted this drawing a couple threads ago and redrew their faces and part of their heads (thanks anon for the help) and I started coloring, but while doing that my pen nib started to become loose. I'm away from home, so I don't have my extra nibs with me, putting me on forced leave until a new tablet I ordered as an opportunistic upgrade arrives. It's been 4 days now, and I've begun to look down on this drawing.I think I should do better to visualize the objects in perspective. I believe Satori's shoulders are the only proper thing. My list of insecurities for now:"Shorten far side of monk's head. Juts out too much. His left ear should be moved forward and enlargened.Twist Satori's sleeve into the armpit. Not directly in the armpit, but in that direction.Chin makes Satori's face look 2D.Rotate pinky further right to align with hand array.Too little depth. Leave space behind things. Redraw eyes, but you're not actually drawing the eye, but the context around the eye. The line at the bottom is actually the indent of the cheekbone."
>>7341869Looks pretty cool. Though you have to remember humans look at faces a lot so that needs to be tighten up. Get proportions right-doesn't need to look like the person, it has to at least look appealing to the eye. the way the sketch lines mix with your shading makes her lips look messy, and try to subtly put in the brow ridge for females.

>>7341935you start with gesture for putting ideas down in a composition so you can work on your art later with referencesyou start with observation drawing because you are a beg and knows nothing yet
>>7341935you start with gesture in the drawing itself, without the context of learning as a beginneryou start with observation when learning. learn observation before starting gesture. you can just overlook gesture for nowyou start slow when learning, then speed up with time to get mileage
>>7341935Tell me one skill you start fast
>>7341918the first one is ok. idk how long ur taking for each one but feel free to start at 2 or 5 minutes and really try to capture the contours and movement of the body throughout the gesture. the more you do it the faster you'll probably get. Some studies i did yesterday in intervals of 1, 2 and 5min.It's been a while since i made a solid study on anything involving art due to personal reasons, so i was just sketching almost every day when i had time and was bored, and i must say i feel that i developed a lot just from that, even if i still seeking more time to study more specific subjects, like this one. I will show later the second last gesture study i did a looong time ago later.

>>7342420>>7342436>>7342439The "amount of shape" on the legs will have to be on scale proportion to the "amount of shape" on the ass in question. And that ASS is humongous, wich is fine. >>7342497I know. I'm just trying to make a general basic point. So you can clearly see it even from the thumbnail. Tuning up that proportion is up to the artist.>>7342493Nah, it looks better.
>>7342523Well the answer you're not going to want to hear is to practice construction. Like I said it seems like you have a solid grasp of facial positioning, you just need to ingrain the muscle memory of knowing exactly where everything belongs to escape the picaso-ness of your current sketches. And yes, unfortunately that does mean to practice some Loomis heads if you want to ever feel like there's depth to the drawings
>>7342538Ok understood. Is there no alternate to Loomis? I dislike the guy myself. What material or book should I pick up? Should I, honestly I didnt study like lots, just act and start as if brand new?

>>7342541There are alternatives but unfortunately that's research you will need to do yourself, because I'm not familiar with themI don't think you need to nerf your practice just because you're just getting into studies, like I said you already have a strong foundation, I would just jump into early tutorials and absorb the advise that applies to you, and skip over stuff that you might already know.

>>7342542>>7342546I did just order "fun with a pencil", is that the book to use to learn construction? And do I just copy what Loomis draws to learn?
>>7342567No retard. If you want to draw anime just watch Mikeymegamega tutorials. No need to read a book from the 70's.
>>7342397Is he walking or running. The pose looks like walking. But the splash at his foot denotes some degree of impact.Or is that like gore? Or something else I'm misinterpreting?
>>7342564>Strong Foundation?Like I said, you already seem to understand the relationship between facial features, now you just need to learn how to place and position them realistically, and rotate them in a 3d space. You have a good jumping in point that many other people don't. >Its really scary. That's the hardest part of drawing. >>7342596your faces have been a bit cuter lately, try doing master studies eventually
Chocola from sugar sugar rune What do you guys thinks is wrong And what parts should I improve myself on ?
>>7342911This is good advice that I guess I knew intellectually but hadn’t really taken to heart yet. Thank you.
So you could only post one file huh
>>7342383Original artist here. Stiff posing had been one of my biggest weaknesses I've encountered in drawing. I was considering doing dynamic sketches and not posting anything for a minute just so I can finally drill in the skill set. But yeah I think it's a few things aside from that and no reference. The coloring is piss poor the composition is dogshit. It feels like I drew a flat sketch, lined it then filled the remaining space with random shit hoping to create some kind of scene. She's a hundred times bigger than the boy but there's no sense of size. Idk but my drawings all have a 'feel' to them and I don't like it even if some parts are well done
>>7342940work on gesture for stiffness and make sure you study form more as well for the 3d forms of the body and head, youre doing pretty good anon just practice fundies
>>7342940refs
>>7342883cute
>>7342909The drawing or Norafawn?
What do y’all listen to/watch while you draw?
Nene from friday night funkin with a big head and boring pose. The lighting/ shading looks really bad but i cant pinpoint exactly whats wrong (besides the fact that its pillow shading)
>>7342989Powerwolf and other similarly cheesy metal bands, like Hammerfall. Sometimes I listen to armored core soundtracks.
does anyone remember that thread where someone asked for corrections on front facing bara dude with his cock out, and a lot of anons did their own takes on the drawing? I need an archive link to it but I cannot find it
>>7343002it was of miguel from spiderverse search miguel in the archive you're bound to find it
>>7342928The shoulders look narrow
>>7342989Nothin'.
>>7342920>>7342365I mostly look for commissions on discord art servers.
>>7343015thanks>>7342989mostly video game Soundtracks cause i'm based and redpilled
>>7342863Is this better?
>>7343006Yeah, did that deliberately. Does it look bad? I was trying to make her figure even more appealing.
>>7343036It does look a bit strange, yes. You dont have to draw it as wide as the ref but not as narrow as this. Also the original pics shoulders are curved and lower
feeling too happy with these, can someone nitpick them for me?
>>7343055you need marmalademum's goat leg tutorial to feel the form
>>7342928女の子のカラダの描き方 キャラ骨と肉感をつかんでセクシーな女の子を描く
>>7343060they're meant to be lambs/sheep, but i guess it's all the same shape-wise. thanks
>>7343060not that anon but this rocks for showing how femur shapes affect the leg cause thats a huge difference, do you have any more like this?
>>7341935Have you ever considered all four of those are true? Alternate between gesture and observation, and do short/long studies for a well-rounded diet.
Pen to paper. I know the perspective is fucked
use more straight lines at first and check for their angles compared to the ref. easier to spot mistakes
>>7343086>>7342928
>>7343071i still like it
>>7343071Make a Twitter or something, I really love your art
random tomboy i drew after studying kill la kill settei
How bad is it to have your practice all over the place? Should you focus on one goal at a time?Pic related was my practice, half figures and half random. Should I have just focused solely on one subject instead?
>>7343125it's enough to make you wonder sometimes if you're on the right planet.
Did this in about an hour and a half, homework for drawing class. Done in charcoal
>>7343125>Pic related was my practice, half figures and half random. Should I have just focused solely on one subject instead?you're applying figure drawing to the 5 1/2 head manga figure, so it seems pretty straight-forward, you're not getting lost.>>7343129charcoal's a tough medium do you have a holder? nice going.
is it normal for an imagination pose to take like 10x longer to make it look good than a ref'd poseprobably going to do a partial ref next time cause it takes me like 2 hours to do it otherwise
>>7343146nvm it took me 3 hrs for a sketch how am i gonna be gmi
Day 23 complete!
>>7343157It doesn't matter how long it takes, just keep going you'll build up your own shortcuts and it'll be faster eventually
>>7343165what software are you using? awesome drawing btw
>>7343170Im using a crappy website known as garyc.me/sketch, but im also using an alternate client to the site that grants me eraser, line, screentone, etc.https://sketchy-bot.github.io/sketch/Also thanks!
improved on wip from an old thread, gave up on trying to draw anything below the neck
My computer's out for repair so I decided to challenge myselfTo fucking accept my mistakes by practicing hands with only a pen even if I'm cringing right now as I'm typing my post and looking at all my mistakesIt wasn't actually all that bad all things considered, might do it again
For some reason I'm not sure about this one... but I can't really tell why I don't like it that much. Maybe it's the colours? What do you guys think?
>>7343205Also maybe it's something to do about it looking off when zoomed out? Pic related was my reference
>>7343205Reminds me of KONNICHIWA DUDE
>>7343208FUCK
>>7343205Moved some stuff around, I think you made the eye too big and too far forward. I also lowered the ear and changed the angle of the jaw since the tilt in your drawing isnt as extreme as it is in the reference but all of this is just matter of taste.
Never studied anatomy in my life, this is such a pain
>>7343224start with the simplified forms book not this one
>>7343226Ah that's a good tip actually, thanks.
>>7341835
>>7341969If you're struggling with internet usage/doomscrolling, I bought a time lock box and it really helps. I put my two phones and my PC cable away and set up a timer.
>>7342102My favorites are the frog and the fish :) You like drawing animals?
Here's a hand study/doodle I did yesterday. I think I'm kind of improving, but I'd probably benefit from doing some kind of lineart, as a lot of details get lost in the construction scribbles.
>>7342705New pasta just dropped
>>7343112I like the pose coupled with her expression
>a piece of mine was accepted for a local gallery showall smiles.
>>7343061English only
>>7343170That is symbol shit
>>7343293All inventive drawing is symbols
>>7343293it's symbol but it looks cute
>>7343222I see, thank you anon
Fuck staying in the lines I'll just erase whatever spilled over
>>7343086>>7343087Ah I see, yeah you are right. My hips look a bit weird. Thanks for the advice, I will be following it.
>redraw old pic from a few years ago>fundies better but old one looks better>old pic has stronger shapes and more line confidenceim never gonna make it, how the fuck do i replicate my retard symbol drawing shapes but better
>>7343061What did he even mean by this? Are there actual nips browsing /ic/?
>>7343293All "anime style" is symbol shit.
>>7343205Feel like it has down's syndrome eyes.
My painting technique is an inconsistent mess full of ad-hoc solutionsWhat exercises can I do that will make it more coherent?
>>7343308I never hear anybody go on about it being that way though. Why dat??
>>7343240That's cute. Nice work anon.
>>7343307It's the name of a book. Google what he typed and it should take you to an amazon link
im too lazy to finish it properlyany crit appreciated
>>7343318Dude that's what painting isRemember happy little accidents?
>>7343334Im too lazy to critique it properlyRead the sticky i guess idk lol
>>7342905Hi doggie. You are my favourite customer.
Alien or snake monster?
>>7342970Oh my good Lord.
>>7342989Tubular Bells II right now
>>7342989post rockhttps://youtu.be/fYgT7K6bSVU?si=_Py-FPNTVllBX1AV
>>7341665it's good, but maybe do practices on specific body parts only. neck, back, ankles, knees, fat rolls etc etc, focusing on the lighting on those parts.
>>7343344Guess i shouldve expected that
Is there future for me in arts?
everytime i draw some character i like i feel myself like esdeath-dude
>>7343424How can you draw so much?Don't you have to wagey?
>>7343340Well every artist I like seems to have had a solid base of technique and then also allowed for some little accidents to happen.
>>7343434much? it's not even much, about 1-2 hours per day. at least this sketch took me about 15 minutes, i wanted to experiment with 1-pixel brush.btw i study at uni where i do nothing and also get enough welfare to don't work
>>7343411Yes, you have the disease. It will haunt you till you die. Just know that you don't "have to" be an "artist". Follow a career, have a life, and do art for yourself and for your own personal enjoyment. Don't let it become a nightmare putting you life on an eternal hold, waiting for a dream or a breakthrough that will never come.
>>7343447>15 minutesOh it makes sense now. That's why your output is high but quality is low.Spend some more time on it man, carefully construct and add some more linework instead of the scribbles.
>>7343449

>>7342718Thanks. I had already seen that vid, but everything else's new for me.Also I realized that what I really wanted to ask is: how artists combine foreshortening + fish eye perspective, exactly? Even if I'm crap at both for now, feels like I won't progress anywhere until I understand what's combined and where and by what principles, exactly. Attaching a fresh practice scribble for good manners.
Holy shit half of my gainz go away when I try to draw an OC without any references.
>>7343475Good perspective work though
>>7343448That's hitler's painting
>>7343344I tried hard on this one especially for you.P-praise me anon
>>7343093https://imgur.com/user/SSTFpaintinghttps://www.tumblr.com/setsneedtofeed-hobbistI post to both along with my other hobby stuff. I haven't really ever figured out twitter
>>7343515nta but nicechin's too pointy though
>>7343528doing the line art rn, ignore the ear. is it still too pointy?
>>7343527That guy ALWAYS asks for peoples social media accounts for him to follow and now that he has begged you to make one really makes me wonder as to why he insists that people give their accounts for him to follow. He will just say "I just really like their art so I want to see them progress" but I have the feeling that he goes around asking for peoples accounts so that he can have a list of people who he can ask to do free commissions for him.
>>7343532NTA but yesYou could handwave it away as something about preferences, but, since you're asking, hide channel vid on faces (easy to search up just by this) points out what kind of a chin fits the bishounentachi best
Tried to render 1 anime tittyNipple (and rest of the drawing) will followEventuallyI don't know why but when I draw breasts, the closest one always looks like shit
Jaws sketch
>>7343540I have watched this video but I guess I still suck, I will look at it again
>>7343552>>7343552>>7343552new thread
>>7343244I just love drawing most things, to be honest. I like drawing simple animals like fish since I am new. I started drawing some humans for my 6th day learning how to draw: https://files.catbox.moe/rsv9ru.jpghttps://files.catbox.moe/i9wz70.jpgPicrel is my final drawing for today. I also started Peter Han Dynamic Sketching course, I don't know if it's good or not for a beginner but a friend recommended it to me.
15 min repeating timer and no poasting make anon a dull boy
>>7343334it's good, I think most of the lines on the trousers don't need to be there though. if the trousers are pleated, perhaps mostly show it through shading, with a few key lines, and don't overlay the fold lines over the pleats, because the crossing lines makes it too busy and unnatural.
>>7342996>nene from friday night funkin
