>>7354659>Jump's Universal Manga ContestThis was finished on 2018
I'm sorry for posting the link again, but i came with a few question since yesterday, and i hope that if someone here knows how to manage themselves with pixiv can help me-do anybody knows why i can't add a twitter link to it?-also if anybody knows which are good hastash to add to it -the location doesn't change, it's says that i'm or i'm from japan, and i don't want any misunderstandinghttps://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/123917599P.s. do anybody knows how to paint a better cover, i did this one without really knowing how to paint, and i was just using copic brushes from csp assets, besides my arm was giving up at that time so i rather finish it fast. What i wanted for the color in the covers was like those manga covers that looks like painted with watercolors or something like that
>>7354653What is the most efficient way to finish pages?1 - Storyboarding first, then sketch, then linework, and then screetones and dialogue/sfx for each page before proceeding to the next.Or2 - Do the linework for all of them, then screentones for all pages and etc...
>>7354699It makes no difference. Just do what works best for you. Personally, I storyboard the whole chapter then work in 5 page increments.
>>7354695I almost forgot to say, but this version annd the one in mpc are literally the same images, but they look so different, i think that already had said that i'm a bit of illiterate with this kind of things so if anybody knows what that happens
>>7354695It's better to say you're from japan. you might be restricted in many ways now and in the future if you say you're from say UK or something.
I can't upload to medibang, it gets bugged and left the comics on a limbo... i'm losing all the motivation
Oh fuck, the more that i re-read my manga the more depressed i getI wonder if it will be enought just rewritting some parts and adding some few pages, because i can't draw any better than, i mean not it the physical condition to do that, and i really feel in a corner about thatI'm sorry i'm son of a bitch, i thought i had a chance when i saw some of the other bronze awards they gave away
>>7354653>manga making generalI'm making a new Manga now. it's got shrine maidens and shit so you know its sugoi.
I've been working on the second chapter of my comic since March and have finally finished it. You can check out both chapters at www.readpristine.com if interested.
I had some anon tell me I could be making one-shot manga. does my stuff have any potential to be anything more than just doodles?
Maybe it's because I am retarded or maybe it's because I am relatively tehc-illiterate. I cannot get the method from this video to work (doesnt help that the explanation is shorter than it could be)Could anyone who knows explain how to properly do this? Also what sorts of pictures work best for this? DO i just need high res or is there anything else to pay attention to? https://www.youtube.com/shorts/zV6OgpJInqM
I really have no clue how medibang works. There are comics there with tons of views but are drawn like dogshit. Actually, a lot of them are pretty decently written and I enjoyed reading them, but you wouldn't know that just looking at the first few pages. I say the art is shit but it doesn't really bother me as an artist, I thought it would bother a normal consumer though. But no, people happily read chris-chan level comics. Is everyone on medibang very non-judgemental or what?
>>7355369Pretty nice artwork man, I can feel the effort. It reads fairly clearly too. Keep up the hard work!I will say that the dialogue is downright eyerolling at points though. Funny in a bad way.>>7355409People read some of them to laugh at.
>>7355411damn, now I feel bad. I could never shit on something that took someone dozens of hours to work on.
>>7355369Good art and great feet anon! Personally, I think the screentone pattern should have smaller dots though.
>>7355411Thanks, I don't have any experience to speak of when it comes to writing dialog, so that's definitely a weak point at the moment. At least it's a good start If it's alright to look at and reads somewhat clearly>>7355418I've been experimenting with dot sizes and agree smaller dots can look better, especially in smaller panels where the inking details get fucked if the dots are too big. I think the comic looks more consistent if you keep the dot size the same across pages, but making them smaller overall might be a good call.
>>7350076pretty satisfied with this one
>>7355542Looking good anon, I always enjoy seeing your comi->scrooge mcduck referenceIf you were to change that to simply Ebenezer Scrooge, you would leave the general reference intact without running into any issues of Disney's lawyers wanting to give you a second butthole, especially if you wanted to make a quick penny off of it. And don't think you aren't big enough to get noticed - they went after a grieving family who wanted to put Spidey on their kids tombstone.>>7355369Nice efforts anon, great job tinkering away for all this time! I particularly liked your fight/monster scenes.
>>7355571>If you were to change that to simply Ebenezer Scroogebetter safe than sorry, and also thank you!
Gonna switch to digital fullyOnly cause scanning is nightmare to do and maybe will do it faster idk
I procrastinate too much on the panel sketching phase because I fear I might make a mistake and ruin the flow of the story. Or my current ideia is not good enough and I can't come up with something better. How do I fix this?
>>7355409I don't know where to even find the manga desu
>>7355864How do you sketch your panels, and what's the reading order
>>7355864You keep in mind that you can re-sketch over the sketch everything you don't like, and move onSome artists even do thinner linework on top of linework multiple times for thin line accuracy alone
I just saw that the anon that was offering himself for assistant reply me yesterday, but i was a mess yesterdayAnyways, i posted my discord and a link (the same that it's on the first non copy post of this thread) if you are still interested
Is it a good idea that the covers are part of a little story? I don't mean like oda, more like the idea for the first cover was that it was a picture and then a little funny side story happen after that
>>7355369Chapter 1 is "call an ambulance, but not for me" kind of thing, i like itChapter 2, i big girl looks like rebeca from berserk and i love it
>>7355864If the flow is good then a goofy sketch won't ruin that aspect.
How do I make my screentones look like this? With dots just big enough to give some texture to the image without making the entire page spotted. I use the default settings on Krita and the dots will either be too small to the point to the point where the page seems to have no screentones, or, they'll be too big and visible.
>>7356121By printing it on cheap paper and then scanning it back in.The way the manga you read looks is different from the manga they drew. This is a reproduction of the original drawing. Your own drawings will look more like the original drawings than the reproduction because your drawing has not been scanned in, mass-printed and then scanned in again. As for how to get that look, you're going to have to fake it with paper textures and smoothing/blur.
>>7356121You sure are dots? It could be anything, for me looks like noise screentone
>>7356160It looks like dots when you zoom in. But it seems to be a different type of pattern than you usually see.>noise screentoneIt could be that, or something like this anon >>7356151 said
>>7356160It might really be noise after all. I like the way it looks. Is there any issue with using this method if I were to print it?
>>7356166Before trying anything just change the patter to anything you like, just in case
>>7356192Not sure since i just have access to digital, but i really doubt since the different tone patterns are uses before digital art
>>7356160>>7356192Here's an example of what a noise pattern looks like in print. This is imperfect because I'm just taking a close-up photo with my phone of a magazine page which is typically larger than a tankoubon, but still. I'm reasonably sure that YKK page is just the basic 60L/10 screentone.
>>7356227>60L/10 screentone. It could be, but i think that noise screentone aren't in ppl, just density
>>7356236>>7356227Yep, i went to check and it is density, noise size and factor
>>7356121>buy tones once>scan and use them foreverI may have given this advice once already at least, but it's a good idea if you hate dealing with uniform digital dots and mess, real screentone has a natural texture that is pleasent to look at.>>7356160like >>7356151 mentioned, this is likely due to the fact that it's a scan. So what you're seeing is the reproduced book's natural paper texture behind the tone, which is cheap newsprint. You don't have to go this route though, simply scanning it should be enough. If it really annoys you, you can throw on a multiply layer paper texture- but keep in mind if you ever want to print it will look fucked up and probably way darker than it should look.
>>7356227>>7356236Nice info guys. Thanks
>>7356236>>7356239I mean the basic 60L/10 dot pattern, anon. There is a noise factor, but that comes from the paper & scan. That's not a noise screentone, but a basic dot screentone.
I test it a little, and the factor is how much the particle spreads, the lesser the factor makes the noise just points, and the bigger the factor those points became lines
>>7356250Oh, i got it... i think, i mean no noise screentone, but natural noise due the print?
So i was think what would be the beat course of action right now, liike start rewriting and add some pages right nowOr start by redrawing the cover, and also make the color pages for the rest of the chapters that i had in mind, with a little synopsis of the ideas that i had for them, this would be for trying to get a little of tracktion onlineP.s. would you mind if i post the ideas that i had for the next chapters of the series? I would like to see if those seems interesting ideas
>>7355369Loved your comic, anon. You seem to really like Fujimoto's art style and… feet. I think you should have used the second chapter to explore her life in the village a bit more. Some information about the principles could have been kept hidden from us and revealed as the story progresses, but overral I'm enjoying it.
>>7355369Someone in the last thread asked about writing, and I would like them to read this. What a huge exposition dump. It went on for much longer than needed. You almost justify it by Priscilla not knowing, but she didnt really ask either. Also "esoteric principles" seems like a non sequitur, but that's just a nitpick. I would have liked to learn more about morphosis.Your environment art is phenomenal though anon. Very clean, and and it really put me into the setting.
>>7356320Oh wow I was actually going to mention you in my criticism I just posted.Compare your exposition to his, and it's night and day. You're writing is quick clean and explains the concept so easy, and you do it while still being esl. Much smoother writing, and a similar story concept
>>7356260So well... i decided what i'm going to do, but first i wanna see if these are good pitch ideas for the upcoming chapters that i had (a long while ago)Chapter 2: mr.Backdrop way to school/ハイケイ-さんの通学路 (this one comes because i loved chio-chan no tsuugakuro)It starts with a girl doing the usual toast of tardiness, but then she gets shove away by the protagonist running away from a eerie groups of birds, the chapters goes on by the protagonist trying to get to school, but then there's a fight between a monster and a mecha.Chapter 3: thrive and tribulationsThis one is a bit more personal, the protagonist have to pay back a favor so he stay late to clean the gym, and there he mets an injured athlete that is about to quit his club, but the protaginist try to change his mindChapter 4: munchausen by proxyThis one is simple, the protagonist gets used by his friend to flirt with the nurseChapter 5: i don't have a name yet for this oneThe protagonist gets confused with someone else, so a girl (my favorite character so far) ask him to get rid of her bulling problemChapter 6: no name neitherStarts with the girl that quit being a hero doing job hunting other hero agencies
I making progress. The second page is done.I'm learning a lot of things when it comes to quality and time management. A few things in this page is looks good to me but, I really only find it passable when I compare it to pros. But, when comes to making things on deadline, making things passable is okay.If I want something that's beyond passable to me in my comics, I'll have to get faster in my workflow.I'll just keep pushing through until I hit the page limit. It's nearly 3 am and my back hurts so, I'm going to sleep.>>7355369Nice work! It gives me To Your Eternity vibes. It's very good that you have a website for your comic.
Working on commission comic>>7355373It has potential. You got cute style and appeal. I dunno if you have overall idea for story, but these sort of Azumanga Daioh style 4 koma strips of Finnish army could interest plenty of people
>>7356452Looks good anon, great hair
>>7356437
>>7356462thanks for the nice feedback. so far I've been just doing these 1 page short form images for fun one image every day, but I have some long form ideas that I could maybe start making. how does one go about making one-shot manga and If I were to ever finish my manga. where does one publish it so people can see it?
>>7356437It could be good, it could be bad. Depends on your storytelling skills. Put it on paper and ask for feedback.
is doujinshi allowed?
>>7356629Pixiv, Deviant Art, Twitter and Instagram. I would shill that stuff in Ylilauta and other Finnish sites too.
>>7355571Thanks, it feels really nice to be able to call these two chapters finished now. >>7356052Thanks for reading, your comment gives me some confidence.>>7356320Really appreciate the feedback, I'll keep working on my writing. I do indeed like Fujimoto's work quite a lot. And wow, thanks for drawing Pris! That's the first time anyone's drawn a character I've made.>>7356381Thank you for the feedback. Worst part is I was actually thinking about how I wanted to limit the amount of exposition when doing the script. Your and the other anons' comments have made me aware of the fact that my writing really needs work. I'll do my best to keep improving my writing going forward.>>7356452Thanks! It was a pain to set up, but I think it's neat to host my comic on my own domain.
>>7356389>You're writing is quick clean and explains the concept so easy, and you do it while still being esl.You should have been here to see how bad my English was in my first attempt to translate my comics kek
>>7355793How are you scanning? You should be going for at least 600dpi, and I'd say use your software to convert to monochrome, not the scanner settings, that way you have more control.
>>7356656>is doujinshi allowed? If by doujinshi you mean self published work, then that's almost 99% of all /mmg/ so yes. If by doujinshi you mean porn, then that's also allowed to since pornanon and that other Aussie anon are making porn (tho pornanon is working with an actual Japanese publisher).
I hate colorI hate colorI hate colorAnd I hate shading.I'm so bad I'm trying out these online color pallets to help keep it uniform. When did red and blue just stop being red and blue? I don't need these in betweens. Lord, take me back to preschool.
>>7356919
guys tell me. How viable is hand drawing images and then scanning them. I like drawing by hand a lot and it's way faster than digital. how good of a scanner at minimum would I need? also do you guys manually do every panel or do you do a lot of copying
>>7356964My printer scan at 300dpi and it's enough to me.
>>7356964Your scans? Not viable. If you're the anon I think you are, then less is more. Do just the thick linework, no shading.I 110% support trad drawing over digital, but your scans suck and you need to do like 70% of the work digital.
>>7356989I'm just experimenting here. to see how I could turn my drawings into scans, without completely destroying how they look. Is there some methods that could work that would retain my drawings looks pretty much as they are.
>>7357001this will be a learning curve if I'll have to just not think about shading from now on
>>7357001Ah ok. Those aren't as terrible as>>7355793which is who I was thinking you might be.Your scans actually keep some soul
>>7357016Ah i see, thank you. I hate how the scans remove some parts that i think are very important to the picture. Like the shade over eyes and also the highlight in hair. I guess i'll have to learn hatching or crosshatching to get those effects?
>>7356985All this talk about screentones and scanning is making me glad I never went beyond the default pen in csp. Technology sucks
I have seen some anons export a lot of pages in vertical to post it here, do you have to edit them together or there's an option to export them like that?
>>7357185Awn very cute Lena and Gesche! I wish I could make my characters more expressive like this
>>7357192CSP has an option to export it like that, but you had to have been working on the comic in a comic format (with all the individual pages on the side and stuff)
>>7320015>>7320016>>7320018>>7320019It's out on digital stores until janurary.https://www.dlsite.com/books/work/=/product_id/BJ01713986.html
>>7357247Thanks you anon, do you know which are those options perhaps
>>7357185I used to only do hatching and I loved it, but when I tried to do a manga, I tried out the tones....and I kinda liked em
>>7357251I do it this way but maybe there's another>file -> export webtoon>check "export as one continuous page"mines greyed out since I just opened a new canvas to screencap this. If you have your comic file open then you can click it.
>>7357255Oh thanks you, i greatly appreciate it
Wonder if that assistant anon still roaming around
>>7356919I also have problems with covers and colors and i have been seeing this guy videoshttps://youtube.com/@thedrawingcodex?si=B8RrAz_k2_WZ-VoZI would leave link in case someone else can also use it...Btw if anybody has a tip on digital watercolors, or how to archive that manga cover style, i would greatly appreciate it
>>7355369looks nice, but i still dont know what the point of the story even is.
Editors really are crucial if you're autistic or otherwise not "the average guy". Things that make perfect sense to you will be cryptic and confusing to readers, its so frustrating when someone tells me they have no idea what happened in a panel when its as clear as day. Without an editor, you can't ever know what it looks like to fresh eyes.
>>7356989>>7357016I am the anon you mentionedI admit it's ass and i am frustrated at it being ass and seen as ass but instead of whining i tried putting in that frustration to good work and redid the panel following ya adviceLeft is new right og
>>7357364But it feel apart when i tried to put it togetherWorst is feeli can do it betterI did shitpost comic that i doodled on work and bit at home that took 5 times less and looks better to me at least and that one is scribbled with fingers while this with liners on paperWhat i'll do is finish 2 more pages trad since i sketched it alr. Dump them and re make it digitally
>>7357365I'll repostNothing to lose anymore since i am scarpping bottom of the barrel artistically anyways
>>7357373
>>7357374
>>7357364>>7357365I think the art is great, but the scan does lose some quality. What if you try drawing thicker on paper to overcompensate for what the scanning does?
Copied my first panel. What did I fuck up?>inb4 perspectiveI dont know how to use the perspective rulers I am so sad
>>7357422cant see any girls
>>7357001This is why you need to learn how to ink. Pencil shading doesnt carry over to mono lineart.
>>7357471There arent any girls in the panel I copied
>>7357422Where is the original to compare?
>>7357481Got any good ink pen recommendations to get started with inking. I only got some basic stabilo ones and they are not accurate to ink in the slighest. I know i need to buy new ones, so I'd rather buy something good
>>7357486Srry here it is
>make a yaoi manga>make a scene where one of the protagonist was raped with a pistol (they shoved up his ass and taunted him they were going to shoot)>realize it's fucked up>had a moment to think of my actionsow...
>>7357545I want to read it
>>7357199> I wish I could make my characters more expressive like thisThere's nothing stopping you, it's just a matter of practice and patience.>>7357252My problem is I care a lot more about getting good at making comics than I do about comics themselves. I can't use screentones because it feels like I'm wasting an opportunity to practice something.Anyways, what do you guys think about this sequence? Does it make sense, particularly the last panel? I feel like I need an inbetween panel and move that one to the next page.
>>7357555How long did this page take
>>7357545you've been visited by your gappeldongerjust don't start putting tone on male nipples
>>7357545>yaoi mangaPOST
I attempted to turn my drawing into a proper manga panel for the first time. How does this look?
>>7357638Not so good. I have no way of knowing this is a manga panel
>>7357652any tips on improving. It's more about the the drawing itself than the panel. I tried scanning my doodle and cleaning it up. I haven't tried that before
>>7357659Well, in terms of the drawing itself I wouldn't know where to start. Let's start with the gondolas knees. Are you able to make 2 knees look alike? Then are you able to make those shapes the same size? Then can you make the hatching actually straight lines? And finally, can you please get those coffee spots off your drawing?Ok that last part might by my dirty monitor. But the other stuff stands. I also don't really get your manga/comic angle.
>>7357638Age please
>>7357726thanks for the legit feedback and not being too harsh on my first attempt. yes I can make try to make the lines and hatching better. I get the context is kind of lost here. The idea for this strip would be something like ,the girl is sleeping against gondola in a bus with her drool gradually extending and the gondola is trying to avoid it from touching his leg>>7357777why you ask. I don't aim to be hyper realistic with my drawings. I just draw this type of stuff for fun. what kind of drawings are you doing then, because you seem to be judging mine?.
>>7357792I ask because it matters on what kind of feedback to give. If you're only doing it for fun, why get so defensive?
>>7357807sorry, I thought you were making fun of my drawings, even if I only draw for fun it still kinda hurts if people make fun of your honest efforts. I'm in my early 20's.
>>7357545finally, some good food around these parts
where did these yaoi enjoyers come from?
>>7357878We've always been here anon, waiting for someone to post some good yaoi
>>7357255It seems i can export in weebtoon, if you use spreads
I'm always so indecisive. How do you know if a site is ok? At what point does it become too chaotic? Oftentimes I have panels I want to draw, but I am not sure if they really fit to the flow. There are so many decisions you have to make and you can never be quite sure if what you are doing is actually good enough.
I tried a few things, but none really worked to be able to post them on vertically, so i will post them separatelyAnyways, here are so few changes i did in the dialogue and some that i'm planning
>>7357941The panels with red are going to be either redraw or re touchedAlso i will try to clean up all the artwork too
>>7357943
>>7357945
>>7357948
>>7357570About 1 day.
>>7357878I now wonder if there is also a similar substantial hidden yuri contingent on /mmg/ to be honest. I frankly dont care either way since I don't bother them (the yuri/yaoi anons) and they don't bother me, I'm just curious.
How short can you make a scene really be? Is it ok if I just do a very small scene inbetween, with 2 panels, or do I have to make every scene like at least 1 page? I just want to ad a certain panel, but I have to make a short time jump for it.
>>7357966Scenes, im sure that i read or saw on a video that the standard is like 1 to 4 pages for scene
>>7357962Considering how almost every comic here has a cute girl as protagonist, probably there are some yuri lurkers
>>7358011You know I flipped a coin on which of my 2 stories to draw first, and I decided on girls first, because I thought it would attract more girls to read it.Boy I really showed my ignorance.
>>7358023>I thought it would attract more girls to read it.Kek I thought the same at first. I still can't believe that my first comic I did to appeal for men got mainly female readers and the one I did to be for everyone with a female protag is almost all male readers.
It's pretty fascinating how you can get to solutions when thinking about storylines. It's like every problem you run into first seems like a wall, but with some luck you can still find some pretty interesting solutions. As if it's a puzzle with multiple solution possibilities and you can bend the reality of your story to your liking. Ideas are really infinite. The problem is just to get to the ideas fast enough. That's what I still don't understand. How manga artists are able to create stories so fast is beyond me.
I tend to start with an idea, and don't even know how the idea should end in an effective way. But when I really think about it, I tend to find an interesting way for it to work. I don't if that's my intution which is at work or if that's just how writing stories goes.
how do people find artists to work with? do they just rummage around twitter?
With which kind of brush you can do something like this
>>7358267That's watercolor.
>>7358267this just looks like a regular watercolor brush on a textured canvas
>>7358258>not using straight lines for the backgroundWhy would you do this heathen. Are your western influences getting the best?
First page copy complete... How does it look? I feel like the lineweight sucks dick but I want to hear it from someone who has more experience because I don't really know how I should fix it. Original: https://files.catbox.moe/ust3c6.jpg
>>7358313Looks better than autocad shit most mangaka use
>>7358411>autocadHow do they use autocad for backgrounds?
>>7358424By applying a filter over a 3d model
Writing stories is just too difficult. I think manga requires too much creativity for me.
i use the sims to make backgrounds...
>>7358404extremely faggy
>>7358507Thats cuz i am gay anon. Please rate the artwork not how faggy it is
>>7358313holy soulless
>>7358313I frankly hate it when mangakas just use either 3d objects or photos they've converted to lineart. I have a lot of respect for mangaka that takes the time to draw an actual background themselves.
>>7358511it looks good anon, don't pay attention to people who can't even draw an appealing stick figure
>>7358633Can't read shit
>>7358640Thank you anon
>>7358480Then do an adaptation.
So, I turned the layer with tones of gray into halftones by accident and saved the file (I wanted to keep a layer with the grays, then make a copy of it in which I would apply the halftones on). Is there a way to recover that layer without having to paint the entire panel all over again? I'm using Krita. Ctrl+z doesn't work because I had already closed the software.
getting closer to the violenceI wonder how much will be allowed on tapas/webtoons
>>7358404You didn't quite accurately capture the line weight application. You gotta go thicker more often. In the corners especially. Pay close attention to exactly which lines are thicker and which are thin, because you went thin way more often than the original.
>>7358920Woops, forgot my image
>>7358011Some of the comics here (like altarusia, aecast, or pristine) are gonna be either full yuri or outright harem for a single chad, I swear to god. No inbetween. You don't just make that many cute girls to do nothing with them.
sketching and inking are my favorite parts of making a manga
>>7358924Lena is a nun so no yuri and no chad
>>7358893How do you export it like that?Like do you export only the panel or did edit it beforehand
>>7359010Nuns are the worst, just go ask in a convent
>>7359002For me is the tones
>>7359002I still haven't gotten to my favorite part and it will take a while for me to get there. I can't wait until I start working on the concept art for the guns and clothes of my characters.
>>7359020Did a nun ever stick a ruler up your ass? No?Then shut up, because I loved it, faggot
>>7359020Ask what? If they do gay sex?
>>7359018I just cut the panel and paintbucket the outside
how do you guys storyboard stuff? meaning how do you plan the stories you're going to tell
>>7359062Do some quick sketch panels, see how it reads, then come back and redo them because they are too busy, ad infinitum
>>7359055>paintbucket the outsideI actually thought it was a transparent png... which makes me wonder how do you nailed the board color, i mean if you didn't like take a screenshot and a color sample from the same program you are using>>7359062I do i traditional, i don't know why it just more easy that way
do you guys think having a loli character is seen as weird for normies? I need to present a project for a comic class and I don't know if it'd stand out lol, I'm out of touch
>>7359062writing is a skill that is as deep as drawing. good luck learning how to do it from one 4chan post
>>7359126Depends how you portrait them, mostly because>pic relatedThere's some kegs that explote with water, whether you sexualize them or not, some people with think that you do, so you can tell them back if they are the ones getting exited by the drawing, they are the problem
>>7359126the fact that you used loli already tells me its weird
>>7359126>do you guys think having a loli character is seen as weird for normies?I think it depends how you draw it
>>7359126Promised Neverland and Spy Family have loli mains and they are popular with everyone, normies included. Just dont sexualize them and you'll be fine
>>7359126God I hate the word loli.>Is it weird to draw a little girl?Only if you make it weird, you freak.
>>7359259I love the word, it's an euphemism for dick in my country, which makes it funny
I took a break from what i was doing, to sketch a new cover (in trad)And it looks like this... is this a good composition, althought i draw all closer to the camera
>>7359259I guess it's just the years of being on this site. It just means little girl to me. It doesn't mean anything lewd by itself. However, "lolita" I do think is lewd. I know it's the essentially the same word, I guess I just see it like how "nigga" and "nigger" are different. Internet brain rot might have done it to me though
>>7359365I don't understand what is going on at all
>>7359535Oh ye of little imagination
>>7359062I'm still figuring out the process myself, but I start by writing down some bullet points of the main happenings of a chapter. Then I flesh it out into a script and eventually move into thumbnailing. I reference manga I think have good paneling when doing this. I also like to make the storyboard/thumbnails for two pages at a time, to plan out potential double spreads and how everything would look like if I want to print it down the road. I think the best way to get better is mileage and taking inspiration from great page layouts from existing manga
>>7359535>>7359557It would something like the heroine dashing through the highway while a monster follows her
>>7358922Yeah I thought it was due to the scanning that the lines were so thick... Maybe I'm wrong tho
>>7359589Not anymore it isn't. It's a Rock Opera about a guitarist on the highway to heck now.
>>7359226Spy Family sexualizes Anya's loli friend and westerners are ok with it for some reason
>>7359628Ah good point. Yeah she wants a romantic relationship with LoydBut the whole younger girls lusting over men out of their age range is a common trope. I think Leon The Professional nailed that one.But also, isn't Anya supposed to be like....6?
i'm a huge rookie at determining brusheswhat possible brush is used there?
>>7359656G pen or saji
>>7359656HRB
>>7359062I writed down a lot of the things i wanted to do, tried to organize them, and then conect them thought the sketch
>>7359607Well, that's not the case, especially not for the thicker lines.>>7359656I don't think there's any special brush there at all. It's just any old super basic monochrome brush with low pressure variation that he's using to build the lines up manually.
The numbers are going up and that makes me happy.
>>7358863Probably not unless it's in your %temp% folder. Use non-destructive filter layer when you can next time. Might wanna use Incremental Backup Files or Incremental Version Files too,
I think I can speed up things to do the final art in december
>>7359856>Well, that's not the caseAh I see. Then I went way too thin indeed. Thanks for the feedback
>>7355373i can tell you're autistic from your handwriting (don't ask me how i know)
>>7360223Not him, but fuck you, even though you are right
>>7360223>>7360223Dude. I'm not autistic. My handwriting has always been just insanely bad. No need to throw some psychoanalysis based on my handwriting. Why you gotta be like that
>>7360341>>7360223To add. I tried to make the letters easy to read by using "block letters", but it looks like I didn't do that good of a job there. I normally write in cursive and that is pretty hard to read. I know could just add actual digital text, but I'd like to keep it handcrafted.
>>7358480Make historical fiction or adapt some old play or novel that's in public domain
>>7360350you're coping. buddy it's nothing to do with block letters, letters have no consistency between them, you wrote 20 "e"s and all of them are unique. spaces between words are variable in length (no gap between know, but, gap between but I've longer than I've been, two e's in "been" are massively different sizes), lines of text meander up and down the page and letters within individual words are different in size. just look at the d in "Regar d s". autism is tied with motor issues. writing in cursive doesn't fix any of this. your manga is soulful though.
>>7360425Sorry that my drawing and writing place isn't the most optimal, but I'm trying my best with what I have
>>7360459i don't think your ursive is that difficult to read :)
>>7358404I tried practicing this too but its a lot harder than I thought. I tried three times with three brushes and none of the results are even remotely good, though I'm not trying to copy the proportions or construct anything, I'm just trying to copy the lines I see. But I can't reproduce anything close to even the straight lines with any brush. Its like my lines are too crisp and alised
>>7360468Oh no...I'm so cooked. What will anon diagnose me to have this time
>>7360474has to be early onset alzheimer's. i'm afraid it's over for you.i'm so sorry you had to find out this way.
>>7360475It's over before it even really began
>>7360478And that's why you should always be around a doctor and a priest
>>7360471I also had this problem so that's why I was struggling with the line weight I think... The lines are super hard to replicate. In the end I gave up on trying to replicate them and just drew them but it kinda takes away of the overall result I think. I should try harder next time.
>>7355373>does my stuff have any potential to be anything more than just doodles?Unless you're looking to become another CWC
>>7360559that's just mean
>>7360077wish I knew that feeling, number stays at 0 even when I shill
>>7360559let's see your work then dickhead. you probably don't even have a fraction of soul this anon's art has
>manga making general It's manga making time.
>>7360474very cute art style
>>7360459i could tell you were autistic too but it wasnt your handwriting that gave it away
>>7360602https://youtu.be/3ZL8k78zSYo?t=2>You're making comics as well?>Of course. But really guys, what are some of you listening to while you draw lately?
does someone here just actually have something against me and my drawings. before today no one here has been this hostile towards me.
>>7360632Welcome to 4chan. If you let anything get to you, you will not be here long.
>>7360653the suddenness of it just feels odd
>>7360632i like yur style, and even chav-chan.
>>7360399>Make historical fiction or adapt some old play or novel that's in public domainI first want to do my own stories before I make adaptions. I think I'm getting better at writing, but it's still a very slow process for me.
>>7360632Is that you look so bulliable, i mean you kinda make me understand why the fuck those fucking old ladys used to pinch my cheeks
>>7358480>Writing is too hard and requires too much creativity for me>Ok then write a classic public domain story>Nah, I wanna do my own stories firstNigga, make up yo mind
>>7360786One of the things I always loved about manga is how much you actually can express yourself through this medium. It's an ultimate form of self-expression, because it combines drawing with writing. I just want to master the writing part too. It's difficult, but I won't give up
i'm trying to figure out agan how to optimize quality for time in some panels, this was done by me and my assistant but he will not be involved next issue , thats why I'm kind of worried If I can replicate this.
>>7360820la furra zorro
>>7360793Gotta have a self to express firstYou haven't just lived your life doing nothing but consuming slop, right?
>>7360864I have a ton of inspiration to draw from. My taste is pretty sophisticated, no matter if manga, books, fine art, movies or music. I also studied writing a bit, story elements, the process and how a good story is structured. But still, actually putting it on paper is not easy. Often I have vague ideas of the content I want to draw/write, but fleshing them out and forming it into a smooth story is difficult. It just has to feel right. You need good intution to write good stories.
>>7360471>>7360532That's because that's a digital release where the lines are indeed somewhat blurry. In the original drawing, their lines would be just as crisp as yours. Don't worry too much about getting the exact properties of the image, focus on what the author is doing with the actual lines. How they're conveying depth and shadow with them, weight and lightness. Focus on the techniques they're using to bring the image to life, not the technical aspects of the brush or image quality.
>>7360891>You need good intuition to write good stories. Not necessarily. Stories that come from your personal life, family history, friends, etc. Stories from Erin Brockovich to William Wallace, both interesting in their own right, and true stories.

>>7361117I don't know what that means, but you're welcome.
>>7354653Got about 30 pages roughed out. Gonna ink them out and see how it goes. Wanna reach 60+ pages before I figure out how Im gonna publish it.>>7360891Not sure if it helps, but look at this vid on Luke Pearson talking about his Hilda series(i know not Japanese, heresy) and how he developed the character. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6I9HuWELbI Notice how he didnt have a story planned out for this character, he just thought of a character and put her in a simple situation, literally just her being in this world. Its a process of exploring, asking yourself who this character really is, what the world is like, what problems does this character go through? You can know all the bullshit about story structure and whatever but you gotta think a little more gayer then just that, you really gotta attach yourself to the characters that you draw. For Luke Pearson he put his character in these strange landscapes and was probably asking himself whats the world this girl lives in and explores that, he got inspired about some gay quote about exploring and gave his character red boots in reference to that, so she wants her to be an explorer in this weird world he depicted. Once you attach yourself to the character then writing becomes more simple. But of course you have to put your ideas down on paper. Its not like you are gonna write gold from just the fist page, you only know you got gold once you get a ways into the writing process, and then you can adjust as needed. Writing is not a linear process, you are supposed to go back and forth, ask questions, re-examine, but you need to take those abstract ideas and turn them real cause of course your perfect idea might make sense in your head but you'll never know until you actually put pen to paper and do the hard work to figure it out if it actually works.
>>7361162>Wanna reach 60+ pages before I figure out how Im gonna publish it.You mean what site?
>>7361073It looks like she can attack sending her periods cramps to other people
Do anybody knows how to reset the number of brushes back to default in clip studio paint? I have dowload a lot of brushes throught the years to have fun with them, but now are kinda a bother since i use llittle few of them, and it would help me to clean the workspace
>>7358258I dislike to use the words "mental health" but how is your mental health faring, pornanon?I'd like to give a shot in drawing porn, too. But I'm afraid frequent exposure to pornography might rot my brain like that pedo anon from previous thread.
>>7361283Uh... It's just like drawing any other comic to me. I don't get horny from my own work so there's no sexual burnout or anything like that. It's just the normal stress of drawing a comic, only in this case I'm much much less in my own head about it thanks to having an editor and I'm finally, finally getting consistently positive feedback for my efforts. Before now the only time that happened was with Quickdraw.
What's the best font for manga?
>>7361293The one that fits your style the best. No one-size-fits-all answer, I'm afraid.
You ever see something and get an idea so perfect that it seems a little too good to be a coincidence? Like the story was always meant to have this idea in it.
>>7361312And then you find out it's exactly the same as some anime that was released 5 years ago that you didn't even watch

How much can you grow in skill as a beg if you consciously tried to get every panel to look pro, and tried not to move on to the next page until it looked that good?
What's up /mmg. I'm still working away at the next part of Cosmic Crush. This weekend I'm in artist alley at Anime Expo Chibi in Ontario, CA. If any anon is there come to my booth and I'll give you free stickers
>>7361452You'd get much better this way imo. Looking back on my older pages, sloppy rushed panels so many times can ruin what otherwise would have been a nice page.
These days I'm trying to rush less and have no sloppy panels
>>7361459Hey you're the alien boyfriend comic. I was wondering if you were still around
>>7361452No. This goes against the fundamentals of improving your art.Just draw your panels, to the best of your ability, move on, look back in horror at the awful art you drew, then try like hell to not do that again. If you want to see what it looks like when begs try and make their work look pro, revision after revision, go check the /beg/ & /int/ thread.
>>7361480I have a baby so working on the comic was delayed for awhile but now he sleeps alot more so production is back on track. Also I had to rethink and redesign the alien guy so he's some one cool I'd want to write about and who also appeals to girls more instead of a dweeb idiot he was originally envisioned as
>>7361452trying to perfect every panel can deadlock you when you erase something multiple times over with no visible improvement, it takes 100s of drawings to see gains, so burn that on more panels instead of fixating on making everything perfectalso use refs
>>7361487I see. Your new stuff is looking rather nice. Keep on the grind!
>>7361459Admire the hustle omeow. I personally can't stand going to those kinds of conventions anymore after going to a few. Rennaisance fairs as well. Everyone's too.... I dont even know what's the word to use here. They're all too "that.">>7361487He does look cooler, yes.
>>7361452You will end up with a short comic in five years time, if that. Improve as you go. Hell, take a look at some of /mmg/'s own anons, and look at their very first episode/chapter and look at what they've recently made. Just by grinding out the artistic mileage of earnestly drawing (but not trying to be a perfectionist) each panel, they get better over time. Autistically grinding every panel to death trying to will a turd into becoming a professional turd is how you end up being some (keyword SOME) of the anons you sometimes see on the /beg/ threads or in /asg/.
>>7361544It's just that... I really wanted to make it™ as soon as possible with my current manga. And I know that ain't happening if my art isn't good enough. But I guess I'm being stupid. It will take me years either way right? Fuck man... I just wanted to be my own boss so I don't have to work a shitty 9-5 factory job...
>finished layouts for 4/6 oneshots for my horror anthologynow if only i could actually draw like master mangaka ;_;
>>7361586a lot of people want that, the ones who have it worked for it, start busting ass and you'll get there
>>7361586The thought of making it big with your first manga, and not putting in years of effort should have never entered your mind. Please, for your own mental health, don't even think it's possible. >>7361605Already on it! I just hate how long it takes he he...
I want to make cool and interesting panels. I REALLY want to reach the point where anons will repost my art unsolicited OR comment on it saying something other than "cute". Seriously, Why is the only comment on every picture just the word 'cute'?
>>7361616Cause you draw cute things?
Has a single westerner ever made it as a mangaka? Like a real manga, not a comic book artist?I have many artistic pursuits that I hope to make money from eventually, this is the one where I'm sincere when I say it's a hobby
>>7361622Usagi Yojimbo?
>>7361622Frank Miller
>>7361616Which anon are you again? Genuinely asking here, not trying to dog on your work. I mean, if other anons are always saying that your work is cute then it has to be nice on THAT level at least. It's not a negative response. Like, everyone would likely agree that Cardcaptor Sakura the series as a whole is really cute (or anything from CLAMP, really), and that's never a bad thing. If anything, it sucks more when anon posts a picture of whatever it is they drew recently and it gets exactly zero responses.
1 more page and i'll redo them all digitally
>>7361707Also a question but how do i not end up doing >>7361452 I just want to redo them digitally just for clarity and to fit with rest of comic since it's all gonna be digital I just want at least for my first comic to make people entertained weather it's bad or notIf anything i'd want reader to look at panels and feel energy and chaos of itTo finish it and think "wow that was cool"
>>7361168Yeah. Whether I make my own site or use one the sites in the OP posts. I have no delusions about a actual publisher picking up this work. But I do wanna make my own personal copies when I reach those higher page limits.

>>7361292>I don't get horny from my own workThen how can you tell whether your work is fappable or not?If your editor say so?
There is any way to pass a panel from one page to another in clip studio paint ex?
>>7361991The answer is that I can't tell. When I'm coming up with ideas I give the scenarios a real think, and if they don't make me horny then then I just assume it won't be hot enough. But none of it makes me horny while I'm making it, so I can't really tell if it's coming out hot or not.
>>7361909You'll come to regret that. I still have all the drawings I did when I was 6.
>>7362075NTA but I went into a manic episode when I was 13/14 and dumped all my drawings and writings into the bathtub and filled it with water to destroy it all because my family wanted me to be "normal". >>7361616At least they don't respond as if you're fisting them with a cactus. I get that most of the time.
I'm someone who mostly reads manga but I'm thinking of trying for a job in Western comics so I'm looking for a bit of knowledge from people who know it more than me. Sorry if the questions are a bit basic.1. What are the typical page dimensions and are they the same across publishers? If I wanted to work digitally, what would it be in pixels?2. For creator owned comics, is Image the only option? And do you need to have the whole team planned out before hand? Do the letterers and colourist also count as owners or just the writer and artist?3. What is the market penetration of non superhero comics in the market? And what is the penetration outside of comics fans into more general readers? What kinds of comics make that leap?4. Lastly, page counts. My understanding is that typically a monthly comic is 22 pages. Is that correct? Are there any exceptions? Also, does it happen that pages from issue to issue vary? Like one chapter has 20, another has 30, things of that sort. Manga has that happen but they're also published in a magazine so it's a pretty different industry contextThanks in advance!
>>7362226I know it's too late, but I think this is an instance where having a more manga style panel would work better. Our eyes go from top to bottom, regardless if we are reading left or right. It would be more of a jump scare if the banshee came from a low panel with nothing besides it. But that's just my 2 cents. Either way, looking forward to how the plan to defeat it works out. Hoping for a cool twist
>>7362283Its really different depending on a lot of things. If you just want a job working on some existing book and characters, you really just submit your portfolio and hope for the best, but like with a lot of things, chances are you're just going to get a rejection. If you're looking to just get your indie book published, I think with Image you literally just pay a flat fee (something like $2500, or something) and they'll publish it. There's probably a lot more to it than that, but that's something you'd have to look up.But like most people these days, you're probably just best trying to publish your book yourself and just going through one of the many print-on-demand companies that exist out there. Of course, in that instance, you'd have to (potentially) crowd fund it, market it yourself, etc.1.) Generally, work for American comics is done at 11x17, and when print, its roughly 6.5x10 (about). Though, if you're self publishing or getting it done print-on-demand, you'd have to see what their dimensions are, because you generally work a hair larger than that because of the printing process, some of the edges get trimmed off.2.) I'm not entirely sure, but like I said, Image you really just pay them a little bit, or you go the self-publishing route. I'd imagine you'd retain all the rights so long as you pay/credit the team, and they understand what part their ownership is. For instance, Todd McFarlane owns Spawn, but there have been many, MANY artists and writers for Spawn over the years. There were even some issues with some of the characters he used in Spawn, but he was only the Co-creator or whatever, that created a huge headache for him in the 90s' and he lost the ability to use those characters, and even some of the concepts around them.
>>7362283>>7362317cont.3.) Honestly, in the West, its mostly Super hero stuff. There's plenty of action/adventure/horror/etc. stuff also coming out of the indie publishers like Image. Some of them have done pretty well (think The Walking Dead) but there are plenty of other genres and stuff that do plenty well.4.) Generally, I believe they're 22-24 pages, but frankly, you can do whatever you want especially if you're going to self-publish.
>>7359365Another try for a cover, and this one came from the sketch that some anon did when i was first trying to do the cover
>>7362317Thanks for the helpful answer! A couple of followups>with Image you literally just pay a flat fee (something like $2500, or something) and they'll publish it.So I have to pay a flat fee upfront to get it published? There's no system where if they think my work is good enough they publish it and take a cut of the revenue?>Some of them have done pretty wellIs it common that they sell well outside of comics circles? Like mainstream actual book readers?
>>7362275Do you draw gore porn?
>>7362317>Of course, in that instance, you'd have to (potentially) crowd fund it, market it yourself, etc.To be clear, I'm not sure how much marketing publishers do this days so you'll likely have to market it yourself no matter what.>>7362339>There's no system where if they think my work is good enough they publish it and take a cut of the revenue? That's how japan does it. The two industries are essentially the inverse of each other terms of how they function.
>>7362339>So I have to pay a flat fee upfront to get it published? There's no system where if they think my work is good enough they publish it and take a cut of the revenue?I'm not sure. That's something you'd probably have to look into yourself. I just know you pay them up front, and they'll publish your comic. I'm sure there are stipulations. I'd imagine there's SOME vetting process, so they're not just printing someone's stick figure comics. And I'm not sure if your comic does well, if you have to pay them more, or a percentage, or what.Though, there are also publishers like Antarctic Press who tend to publish a lot of US anime/manga style comics in American style format. You can pretty much submit work to them at just about any time.
I hate to ask but is there a /mmg/ discord?... I'm kinda paranoid 4chan might die someday and lose this community

>>7361162>asking yourself who this character really is, what the world is like, what problems does this character go throughIt really depends on what kind of story you want to write. Character focused stories are probably the most popular. It's the Hollywood formula of Characters > Story > Visuals. My formula is rather the opposite of that. To me characters are the least important. What's most important to me are the visuals and the story. I constantly try to think of interesting visuals I could draw and how I could get to these situations. I also think about the theme before I actually start drawing. The theme of a story is very important. It holds everything together. Without a theme your story would just become random chaos.
>>7363114>>7363131What are you using to scan your pages?
>>7363213What? Most movies these days are all about the visuals, and story and characters take a distant back seat. Its all about CGI and the spectacle and scale of what's being shown. Its why stuff like Avatar, Star Wars, MCU, and Fast and Furious, etc. are so huge. Movies are largely all about how much shit you can shove in front of people's eyes. Its really only indie movies and small projects that actually settle down to make things about characters and plot/story.

>>7363277Sounds to me like you don't know what interesting visuals are. Just because something is an action movie doesn't mean it's about the visuals. It's about action, but it still focuses on the characters. That's why every videogame cover nowadays is the face of an action hero instead of an interesting image.
Hollywood formula is cringe exactly because it focuses on characters so much. It tries to evoke a false sense of emotion in the viewer through cheesy dialogues. That's exactly opposite of what I like. I can't stand watching most movies because they are just too emo and cheesy.
>>7363277>Star WarsStar Wars obviously has a huge focus on the characters. It's an average hero path story, which is obviously a character focused story. Just because it's set in a sci-fi world and full of action, doesn't mean its focus is the visuals. It's just an action hero story.
>>7361337Pornanon, you are an inspiration, keep drawing!!!
>>7363333A focus on characters and their developmental arcs doesn't mean that it has to be a by-the-numbers Marvel slop movie.
does CSP still not support right to left languages for dialog?
