Guys... I finally went to an Apple store and tried out a new iPad pro for drawing and... my S6 Lite is just as good. Literally no difference in drawing quality except the iPad has better palm rejection and screen size. I almost bought a $2k tablet for no improvement.
I’m thinking of turning my old gaming pc into an art tool by pairing it with a big pen display (let’s say around 22” or possibly even bigger). Is wacum realistically still the only good option here? What’s a good option available in Australia that doesn’t cost a kidney?
>>7371972If you live in 2019, yeah.If you live in 2024, no. Wacom hasn't had a monopoly in years.
>>7371972If you're a beginner, you shouldn't even be buying a tablet. Learn to draw with paper first before letting the chinese shill con you into buying some low quality crap.
>>7371982I’m not a beginnerI can draw on paper I like digital painting and am looking to upgrade from my surface proI am open to any good quality solution
>>7371998Then go grab a used Cintiq 22/22HD off ebay. Plenty in the used market and still used in studios.
I have a spare ipad air 3 that I wanted to give away, its a little banged up in the back so it doesn't really have any resell value, but its perfectly functional device that has been factory reset. I would prefer to give it to someone who will use it to draw, so I'll include pencil 1 and its adapters. I was looking for a way to do it without having to give away my address tho.
>>7371998Kamvas 22 plus is still probably the best bang for your buck tablet on the market, and will continue to be until they release something at the same price point with 2.5k/4k resolution. But literally just buy anything from wacom/huion/xppen/xencelab with etched glass made in the last 3 years and you'll be fine. It doesn't matter anymore. Tablets are basically solved tech now. Don't be retarded and buy a 5-10 year old cintiq just because it says wacom on it. Look at specs and features and buy something that's suitable for your needs.
>>7369732no matter how many years go by, someone will post that shit in this thread every time, right?

this thread serves no point, after so many years there should be a link on the sticky refering to the top tablets (screen/less) ranking the top 3 each.i have a very small youtube channel and is funny how some brands, specially huion and xp pen fill my email to chill their tablets, at the moment i told xp pen that if i dont get the 22 inches screen tablet i wouldnt even mention their brand and i think they gonna give up and send that to me lmao.the thing is that knowing how agressive these brands promote their shit it wouldnt be a surprise that someone is being paid to chill bootleg tablets on one of the largest forums of art and systematically wait the bump limit, or should i say bait people into replying to get the thread goin on again because if you havent noticed this is one of the most active threads when is a topic that should be solved once per year and be pinned.

>>7372878The OP is recommending used production-grade tablets that can be bought from ebay, craigslist, gumtree, etc.Who is the OP shilling on behalf of? The wide array of secondhand sellers selling their gear? Do you suppose every person selling their Wacoms and iPads unionized and collectively hired someone to shill their unwanted hardware on /ic/?Here's the reality:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VH1WEYF8rlAhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Twy5Wo8m284These two are talking about XP Pen and Huion. They are notorious for aggressively shilling their shit everywhere, and stand to profit from sales. They expect reviewers to only post positive reviews, and if you highlight anything negative, they either demand withdrawing the review, or they start hurling mountains of abuse your way.Aaron Rutten in particular is very critical of chinese tablets, highlighting all their issues and why he personally doesn't like using them. As soon as he started doing this, he started receiving a barrage of abuse in all his videos, which bares an uncanny resemblance to all the abusive posts toward the OP in these threads. It's almost like there's some kind of entity reacting with extreme hostility toward anyone who dares criticize chinese tablet brands.

>>7371998I love my xencelabs 24, it's got better drivers than wacom, you get a slim pen and regular size, and a shortcut remote thats like the intuos 4 buttons and a wheel. Nice etched glass, color correct, doesnt run hot but also has no loud fans inside it. Veteran Wacom employees that left the company when it got lame and greedy teamed up with each other and a few disney animators to design tablets again and continue from where they left off.It feels like this is what cintiqs should have become, but they decided to cheap out and charge extra instead.Second place to this is the huion 4k kamvas 24", and then after that would be the new xppen 24". If you're into the 16" size of tablets, just pick between wacom/huion, and if you want a cheap portable 13" then go for magic drawing pad.

>>7373439Do you do graphics for printing? If yes you might as well go with P3.P3 has wider range of colors, which is a positive for printed media.Do you do stuff mostly for screens? Then srgb is a no brainer. The real question is if the calibration is properly done, and was it done for the Hz you're using? Different speeds can spell different gamma curves. The pros of a srgb mode is that everything should look right by default. If you want to handle P3 proper, you should enable color profiles and support on browsers and apps.Or maybe you don't give a shit, and will do like me, just hammer colors to gamma 2.2 and enjoy the rich greens and reds, and who cares if the plebs see things a little more washed out.On phone they'll likely look the same, I don't think I've ever seen P3 phone display ever clamping standard content to srgb, but my phone is not up to date.
>>7373439What anon said, but I'd say its worth renting a colorometer for the day from a photography shop, should be between $10-$30 per day. Download free open source colorometer software, plug it in, calibrate all your monitors, and you're good.

is a 13 inch display enough for a /beg/
So, I just went to the store and tried out the 13” Air and Pro at the same time in Procreate. For normal drawing/painting, I couldn’t detect a material benefit to the higher refresh rate, only when I did large fast squiggly lines. The Pro’s OLED looked a bit nicer I guess. Yet I can’t shake the feeling that if I go for the Air it’ll be eating away at me that I didn’t go for the better one. But if I get the better one I’ll be thinking why did I spend so much for an art toy. So I guess I’m no closer to a decision
>>7374105Learning how to control your arm is pretty important for a beginner. I don't think size correlates with skill level.
>>7374129>I don't think size correlates with skill levelkekwouldn't a bigger screen be easier for a beginner though?
>>7374136Sorry, I meant like moving up in size as you get better.
>>7369731The author obviously has OCD, it's impossible how he punctually posts the same shitty thread for years without mentioning absolutely anything interesting about graphics tablets, he doesn't even mention any news about new Wacom products, nothing, it's just an autistic board of personal tastes of a schizophrenic, morbidly obese Jewish man with big tits and paranoid about China.
>>7374129I just want things to be as easy as possible lol
>>7374159A tiny tablet probably is not going to be easy, I can tell you that much.
>>7374138He mistook a brand new freshly released cintiq for a huion one time, he didnt bother to read it and he didn't even know wacom was coming out with new stuff. He just flipped out on everyone because $3k can buy you 2 used cintiqs or something instead of ching chong tablet that fall apart in 1 month. Had no clue he was being retarded. He's perpetually stuck in 2017 or something. He also will compulsively reply to certain things, no matter how stupid he will look if he does, and no matter hard he tries not to. Definitely mentally ill.
>>7374127none of this shit matters for art. you can get a 3rd gen pro and it will serve you just as well as the latest model.
>>7374238Thanks, it had been hard to get a clear answer on the 60hz issue. I don’t want to buy used so the Air would be the only plausible alternative
>>7373820just so you know colours on monitors start to drift after a while which means you're gonna have to recalibrate your screen like usually every 6 months
>power goes out, computer turns back on>display tablet does the no signal power saving thing for some reason>try the driver switch method because it worked last time>doesn't fucking work for whatever reason
>>7373757>How is Aaron feeling?I think he might have killed himself
>>7369731>Avoid>New iPadsI'm a newfag who's about to buy one because I want to learn how to draw but at the same time I want to use it for other stuff (no computer). Should I do this?
why are there like 4 tablet threads up? did the wacom schizo get so btfo that he's pretending the general he wants to monopolize no longer exists?
>>7374919Yes. Multiple times in a row.>>7374229>>7374138>>7373256>>7373254>>7373249>>7373103
>>7374919which one is the most active one I don't care about the chink infestation I just want help troubleshooting
>>7374957just post in the general.>>7374904While I didn't really like my ipad that much, it's probably your best computer replacement short of getting something like a kamvas studio or surface pro that have normal windows. I love my magic drawing pad, but for general media consumption (youtube, netflix, browsing twitter, discord, whatever) ipads feel better to use.
>>7374957Here's fine. What's your OS, tablet model, driver version, and issue? In what programs do you have problems? What have you already tried to troubleshoot the problem?
>>7375002windows 10, huion kamvas 13, picrel, and >>7374767as i said previously after a power outage/computer restart I got put into the no signal power saving death sentence, I'm almost certain it's a driver problem and not a hardware problem since the previous time I fixed it i switched to another driver and switched back but now even that isn't working.i know this is an extremely common problem because I've tried almost every solution offered by people who've had the same problem on youtube to no avail. to my knowledge, everything has been updated accordingly and I haven't found anything on the software side that has changed. i feel like I'm in a limbo of screwed but the solution will eventually come.
>>7375015Have you tried it on another computer or with a different cable to rule those out?
>>7375021the only PC in my house belongs to me and this is the only cable I have. The whole thing was working fine before the computer restarted.
>>7374973Would you recommend I get some cheap laptop plus kamvas studio or whatever instead of a ipad?
>>7375037a kamvas studio 16 is a standalone laptop, there would be no reason to get a cheap laptop in addition to it. But they're like $1500 and I don't really think they're worth it if they're not exactly what you're looking for.just get the ipad.
>>7374973how is the mpd for book reading?
>>7375047it's fine honestly. I think people way overplay how bad the tablet is for normal use. it's a pretty basic android tablet in that regard. I've never used a kindle but it having the matte screen I imagine it's kind of similar to them.
best angle for drawing in a tablet?
>>7374973>I love my magic drawing padNobody cares you chinese shillbot idiot.
>>7374973>I love my magic drawing padthanks for sharing! I'm going to order one and then download hipaint on it!
>>7375124I was hoping you killed yourself. Any comment on literally every one of rutten's review/recommendation videos being literal shilling?
Chang, I know you're getting restless over the OP again, especially because it's black friday season. This is why you've desperately been trying to engineer conversation and posts in a thread barely anyone cares about.Sorry, but your Huions and XP Pens are worthless garbage, and you will not be shilling them in the OP :)
>>7375154How does it feel to get btfo in your beloved thread, and then over and over again in every other tablet thread you make to distract people from it? It just makes you look like the biggest pussy.
>>7375154>in a thread barely anyone cares about. You care. A lot.
>>7375154We know you like to project, so youre telling us you:>Are starting to get restless over controlling the OP post next thread>Have a NEED to keep the OP during black friday for shilling>Are desperately engineering conversation in threads no one cares about (the 4 tablet threads you made that didnt take off?)>Dont even trust that your products are good enough on their own anymore, now you have to resort to putting down the competition while shilling your ownYeah ok sounds about right for wacum schizo. What were you even doing all day, man? You dont draw. Were you busy with the camboys?
>>7375082why is there a cumstain on your screen
>>7375172Wacoomers literally jack off to the wacom logo.
>>7375082>that fucking horrific messI know your pain anon
>>7375172was drawing porn
hey op, you can just post here, really. I'm just going to post the aaron shill shit every thread from now on, no need to wait this one out hoping it goes away.
>>7374767During a storm or during a random power outage? If it was a storm your device could be bricked, but you'll need to test with a different USB port and with a different cable
