Jesus Christ man, you’re supposed to THINK when you draw? Not just scribble randomly and randomly places boxes and forms where there are none just trying to copy what you’ve seen other people do mindlessly. THINK about where the pelvis and ribcage are in relation to one another, don’t just put random shapes hoping that’ll it’ll turn out nice.
>>7422011
Also, this. Stop drawing from just photographs and draw from a live model. Another advantage of the live model is you can move around the room and see the landmarks on the body to find the other side of the pelvis, for example, which is hidden by her leg in the photograph instead of just guessing.
>>7422270
It’s crazy how it’s a daily occurrence on this board for anons to post their work alongside a photograph asking “why won’t my work improve???????” And it is never, ever, ever someone who draws from life. You would think anons would notice this pattern by now but no people on this board still get mad when you suggest life drawing.
>>7422289
I’d post my actual figure drawings OP instead of this half assed scribbly shit, but I think it helps to see the forms somewhat, and my figure drawings are in the life thread and I’m tired of reposting them all the time just go check out the thread.

Well it’s a pretty shit drawing my bad, here’s another shot drawing but hopefully clearer. Look at how much lower her other leg is dude. I’ll do a redline if that’ll help, but the pelvis is clearly tilted that low and you should be seeing much more of the bottom plane of the pelvis.

Draw from life and you’ll see this shit.

why are people obsessing with these fucking ugly boxes that don't have any similiarity to human form or anatomy. It's much better using more simpler and charasteritic shape like a bowl or an egg for example??why don't just draw that those fucking simple curves there? those boxes dont help at this point at all.
>>
>>7423654
Boxes help you understand the geometric planes of the body.
>>
>>7423657
the body does not have "geometric planes" and if have certainly not in the pelvis and ass
>>
>>7423675
Sure it does. It’s a body, it exists in a three dimensional world, therefore it has planes. Lighting often can show you the planes. Not how in OP’s pic the contrast between light and dark in the midsection and in the leg is sharp. That’s because they are different planes. It’s a simplification that can help when learning construction and anatomy.

And here’s a more complete work of mine which better shows the box of the pelvis. It’s an anatomical drawing from an anatomy, so this isn’t how I’d draw in an actual figure drawing class. The purpose is to simplify to learn the geometric planes of the body not to be aesthetically pleasing. My teacher corrected this one to show how I failed to show the clear plane of the torso.

probably from when I would select something and transform it rather than redraw the line. Also leaves little "cuts" are misaligned lines if I don't clean it up. Or just stray brush marks because I use the cheapest wacom available (just the small regular intuous, the $50 version). It also tends to lose all pressure sensitivity randomly and just BLOP a mark when I'm trying to do details. It's really shitty. You can see one of the cut marks on the hair strand where I moved it a little bit but didn't move it down to the arm. It was just an hour sketch so I really wasn't going for polish here.

Also, I like to use the polygon lasso tool and cut the main figure out. Then I use the selection->smooth by 32 pixels which is why the lines don't match perfectly, It gives it a cool outline look. The stray marks get the outline too.

I actually have a lot of AI images that I think are neat saved and dots are not an artifact I've noticed in them.
>>
>>7427918
fair enough. the dots were more common when ai sucked, it just seems like one of those things that a human would have no reason to add to a drawing. love the art btw just to be clear lol

The only time I've used AI is something like LUMA where I animate my paintings for fun. They always come out as abominations though.

I never noticed the little dots in my sketches before but I went back and just opened a random sketch from like 2017 (well before AI was a thing) and they are in it as well. It's gotta be because I use a cheap small wacom. I'm saving up to get a 22" cintiq though. When I worked at EA I had the 24HD and it was amazing but I've never owned one personally. That was back in 2018. All my personal art is done on this shitty little intuous.

The really sketchy look, with overlapping opacities and stuff really are just from the default round brushes. I either use a 100% hard brush or a 0% hard brush to make things softer. I set the opacity to 100% but the flow to 30%, this makes the brushes softer and harder to get to black (you really gottta press down to get blacks) To blend in the shadows, I start with whatever color I want, then use the color picker (alt key) to pick up the midcolor to continue blending. I'll keep hitting the color picker for lower and lower values. Sometimes I turn off the "size pressure" (like in the picture using that button) to get better value control without worrying about the size changing.

Also, usually I keep my layers extremely clean so I can ctrl click the layer (which selects everything on that layer) and then make a layer underneath it, go to select->modify>expand 8px then select->modify>smooth 32px and hit alt+backspace to fill with a dark color to create a solid outline around the entire thing. Most of the time it doesn't look that good so I lower that layers opacity to like 20% so it's really subtle but looks nice.

That's about as much as I can explain it. I use to livestream all the time so I might do it again. I had a few imagineFX tutorials I've done that have my process recorded as well but I don't remember which issues those were. I did like 6 of then.

if you cant draw a box means you cant make decision

it looks like you tried to combine a geometric drawing, working into a sort of figure drawing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5tyz0xzBL0&list=LL&index=4&t=1s. This is a good demonstration of the sort of geometric drawing. It's mostly used to understand perspective.

Most of your time should be doing figure drawings based on your frustration. Do scaling interval drawings on Quick Pose starting at 10 seconds working up to at least 10 minutes.

A couple of people have already said to draw from life and im curious myself. I know this is the best way to learn but how do i draw people from life? Do you just draw strangers on street? Btw i live in a shithole so going to classes with models is out of the question
>>
>>7429454
You can just pay a girl $50 an hour to model for you. You could always start a figure drawing club and charge people like $10 a session to help pay for the model. I take my own reference photos for my art and I either ask my prettier friends to model for me or I used modelmayhem (I don't know if it's still a thing anymore though) to find models on there. Go to a strip club, tell one of the girls you're an artist and need a nude model and give them your business card with a link to your portfolio and email/phone number.

Models that pose at schools only get's paid like $50 for a couple hours. But if you had a couple friends you could all chip in and do a group session. Put an ad on craigslist or something or whatever marketplace your town has.

Or get a girlfriend.

To be fair, that was 5 minutes. Using my non-dominant hand. The technique is sound though, basically how painters do it. Adding, refining and omitting details as you see fit.
Most of the time you can get away with only detailing areas people generally focus on first, like the face and torso.

I'm far too autistic to go outside in general, do you really expect me to be comfortable with drawing strangers in public?

Learn to draw from observation before bothering too much with construction.

Here's the big issue for all beginners,
Lack Of Patience
With enough time anyone can 1to1 copy anything. It's just a matter of knowing the techniques of measuring.

Also stop worrying about lines. Think like a painter. Use lines as a guide to block things in and then just adjust the edges. It comes more natural to see negative space and other shapes that way.
Check this video to see how to approach copying something without relying on lines too much.

Maybe you are not autistic enough for art. It takes a certain amount of autism to sit in front of a paper doing lines for hours daily.

So you're saying I should just straight up trace bodies and poses instead of drawing them shape by shape?

Give normal advice instead of this crap, show me how to build a torso and pelvis

Tracing usually refers to transferring things by tracing over it directly.
Shapes refers to the 2D areas created by contrast contrast of colors. The silhouette of on object would be thinking about the shape.
Forms is the term used for the 3D building blocks. It's like seeing an object as a wireframe in a 3D program.

The most fundamental skill of drawing is learning to see as in seeing things as a series of smaller things and how they relate to eachother.
This means breaking down both the wireframe into stuff like cylinders, spheres and blocks, but also breaking down a sillhouette or an area of shadow into triangles, squares and their relationship to eachother.

Drawing is fundamentally more about shapes because we see and draw in 2D. You cannot draw well without knowing what is correct, so we need to to compare it to a reference. If you are able to compare the shapes of the reference to your drawing you can see why it is wrong and this is how you improve.

Understanding forms is more of a guidance tool. It helps you construct things from nothing and invent things you've never seen. It also helps you pick up subtle changes in things like shadow shapes and their importance.

I'd recommend you to try drawing the reference again, but this time only draw the wall behind her while being extremely careful about accuracy.
Measure using divisions and subdivisions or small errors will compound into big errors.

I rarely leave my room, let alone my house, there must be another way to understand this shit, it's about spatial reasoning and something like that

Painting used to be very much like a trade. You went to an atelier and there was a process everyone could learn.
You just need to learn the process of breaking things down in steps that are manageable.

This is why Bargue plates are often recommended.
They are are sorted by difficulty and just monochromatic images to copy to teach you how to measure shapes and quickly ramp up to teach you about dealing with soft edges and more complex shapes, without confusing you with color.

I rushed it too much and I'm never gonna fix it. Should have simplified it a lot more.
This is as far as it goes.
