It's especially rough because altering things that have been "good enough" with some things that could be fixed has invariably resulted in me screwing the whole thing up.
>>7440753I relate to this animalI lost my ink pen and had to use a ballpointDid my best, knowing nothing about proportion or anatomy.
I'm looking for advice on using construction to get the right shape and proportion, or I guess building intuition for the right proportions. I'll often try to draw a character from reference, discover the head or something is way out of proportion, abandon my original construction and spend hours obsessively erasing and redrawing the same lines to try and match my reference. Do I just draw/copy more, or is there some more nuanced approach I'm missing?
>>7440766Thank you anon, good to see a fellow elf enjoyer
>>7440722I'd say focus on improving faces. They aren't bad, in fact I really like the eyes on their own. But you've reached a point where the wonky face anatomy becomes really noticable and takes away from the rest. I'd say you particularely struggle with placing both eyes correctly if you want to be even more specific.Nice work otherwise, gmi.>>7440771Make a copy of that state and work on that. If trad, make a photo and keep working on the original I guess. Honestly, unless something is a finished piece, I don't see the point in fretting over "ruining" something. You're gonna forget you drew it a few weeks later anyway and probably be able to do it better at that point. But also, don't try to spend a lot of time fixing stuff after you feel you are done. If it's something you know how to fix, do it, if you are just trying stuff, do it again and try it there.>>7440776Same advice here. Try to do it again, instead of trying to fix it from time to time. You don't need to always abandon ship, but trying again is much more beneficial in my experience.
>>7440776No answer, but I have this issue, too. It's especially bad when the construction isn't SO bad, but you try and fix it anyhow, and it winds up making it way worse. Would love a solution, as well.
>>7440779>Same advice here. Try to do it again, instead of trying to fix it from time to time. You don't need to always abandon ship, but trying again is much more beneficial in my experience.This. >>7440952Mine is called LifeUp Pro, its free with my Google play pass, but there are a lot of other free versions that look better. LifeRPG looks good and is free, you'll see a bunch when you look them up. You need to actually 'play' by the rules you set, make attainable goals. Channel your inner austist and imagine you're a newbie in a game. Set up easy objectives at first, but have a long term goal, then as you get used to completing your easy objectives and earning points, increase the difficulty. You really have to be willing to 'play'. There's no sense in downloading it if you aren't going to 'play' by the rules you set. You'll feel extremely stupid and like it's pointless and retarded, but if you push past that and hold yourself accountable it's actually a really good but extremely autistic way of doing what a normal person would consider goal setting.

>>7441231Ha, funny, I study the same anime. I also study Samurai Champloo. I think it comes down to me really fucking with the shape language and sharp angles of the artists. It meshes well with what I want my own to be. I also like guilty gear, Vagabond, just really gestural. I say you study what will allow you to create what you want. Just because it's hard doesn't mean it's not worth it. You should ask yourself what draws you to these styles, what appeals the most to you, then try to capture the essence when creating your own style.
>>7441291Hmm, looks like there is no magic pill. I'll draw over the old lines I guess.
>>7441300Didn't we agree on page 9 last thread?
>>7441304>I say you study what will allow you to create what you want. Just because it's hard doesn't mean it's not worth it. You should ask yourself what draws you to these styles, what appeals the most to you, then try to capture the essence when creating your own style.Huh, nice tip actually. Don't know if it makes sense but i enjoy alot how ''grunge'' they look. Really stylish. CSM illustrations has that vibe tooYou're right, it would be bad if i just copy their style.
>>7441308No
Trying to fix this somehow.
>>7441295Identifying what appeals to you is the first step of studying a style. What exactly makes the style 'grunge' for you? Is it the hatch rendering? The muddied color palette? The line weight being jagged? The proportions? Are they lanky? What makes them look more mature? Etc. You pay attention to these things while copying, then you incorporate characteristics into your own drawings. Then before you know it, some things stick, you start being able to consistently create a style that appeals to you and boom, you got your signature style.
>>7441308We agreed that the beg thread should just be removed. It clogs up the board. Gets in the way of the daily AI and doomer threads.
hey so how do I add details that are more subtle in a sketch without learning painting yet? like armor details.should I just put gray on my palette?
how do I go from following drawing tutorials and understanding everything they're saying and being able to draw it (by copying each stroke they do) to being able to actually draw on my own? the two results cannot even be compared. I can't draw on my own at all, looks like absolute dogshit.
more reference drawing wuuw
>>7441323Follow the tutorials but don't just blindly copy everything they do, eg if it's a guide on how to draw a man using boxes, draw him in a different pose but still apply whatever principles the tutorial is trying to teach you, so that you can actually understand them. Eventually you'll be able to do it without the guide, good luck anon

>>7440712>Go through Art and Science of drawing course ~ a year ago>Think I comprehended most of it. Shelf it and just draw for a year>Starting to forget some of the important parts of gesture after a while>Rewatch course>Realize how much stuff I glossed over last time I watched it>Think to myself "How the hell could I miss such important information?? This shit's been driving me crazy for a year, yet he explained how to do it right here"I never realized how much a difference drawing experience made in actually understanding the courses you watch. I feel like I learned 5x more the second time I watched it having had a year to gain more drawing xp. Might be time to re-read Vilppu since the first time I read that book I was a pre-beg and didn't understand SHIT and thought it was completely fucking useless. Are there any books/courses out there that you guys have had a similar experience with? Didn't understand/see the value in until you re-read it after getting more experience?
>>7441347This is how you will feel your entire art journey. All the fundamentals are cumulative. They build up on themselves. The more you learn, the more you realize how much knowledge was being shared that you were literally too ignorant to understand.

>>7441361You are so fucking good. for how long have you been drawing?
>>7441350It's weirdly comforting and depressing at the same time. It's tangible proof you've improved which feels great, but it also makes you feel like you could've made so much more progress had you understood it just a little more the first time around. And that this cycle will repeat ad nauseum for as long as you draw
>>7441119Brent Eviston book and video courses
Thoughts? I used no reference and haven't done many lessons. Plan on doing that tomorrow
>>7441376glad i saw this after i ate my dinner and not before
>>7441377Okay. Fair
>>7441377I thought this was /beg/ cmon you can't bully me
>>7441371Obligatory. To the untrained eye a beginner and master often appear the same. Pearls before swine as they say. It's just the nature of knowledge and why we are all bound to be dunning krugers in somebody else's eyes at some point. The most important thing is self assessment and willingness to grow.

>>7441055>Are you a japanese island dog?No but I'm 99.85% white so do not worry>How did you come up with these anime heads?I'll explain, but as I'm not very good, taking my advice might be harmful. Someone literally hurt their hand because of my advice, so I feel ashamed.I found that anime heads require an incredible amount of space between the eyes, so if I want to make the eyes very big, the head has to be very wide. The wider the head, the smaller the jaw, and the chin angle becomes less acute until it becomes a blob.I usually use the cylinder as the base shape, then I slap a goggle shape in the middle and that's basically it.On the attached picture you can see the steps of me sketching 3 generic heads + a bonus picture I scribbled when I was bored.I have a bad habit of drawing very small, so my drawings tend to be very simple.
>>7441387he boutta dabbin
>>7441387nice
>>7441169I don't think that's a bad desire. I too seek some sort of satisfaction from drawing.

>>7441395Traditional, but i scanned it with my printer
>>7441364like two years (actually trying to improve)

>>7441407Use a reference, you have good shape in some aspects but the anatomy is bizarre and the perspective is bizarre>>7441408You're afraid to commit to drawing something because it will be bad, you need to get over that. 99% of the time I see people drawing random shapes and blobs is because they're afraid to commit to an actual drawing

Is copying other art good or bad practice?
>>7441521Youtube videos told me its good
quick redraw i did :) both are from imagination the og took 30 minutes and the new one took 7i’ve still got a long way to go but it feels good to see the little gains
>>7441521It's part of a good art practice but just copying other artists art is not sufficient to train all of your skills to your maximum potential. You can learn different things by copying from other artists, copying from life, photos, 3d models etc., drawing from memory, drawing from imagination, creating new artworks. They all have their advantages and disadvantages. So it depends on what type of art you want to make and what you enjoy doing.
could anyone redline this? i just want to see how a better artist would handle the pose
Working on folds/clothes any tips/critique?
