Yea, the blushing effect on the cheeks needs less detailing, its hard to do with pencil strokes. You could consider leaving that for coloring later. The eyes need a little tweaking I think, bit more work on the eye lashes. Nice job on the arms and the lats.

Yeah, I'm using a dip pen and trying to practice shading and hatching. I wanted to "soften" the margins of the shaded area so I kept overcorrecting and ended up with too much blush. I don't intend to colour this piece so it is as it is now.

WIP Mech deity. Made of living metal, these "colossi" are gestated in massive facilities rather than constructed. This is the first one that doesn't use the pilot's soul for fuel, instead it runs on cerebrate batteries(the tubes on its back there). From my fantasy-scifi setting, in the later ages of the world most gods are long dead and replaced with artificial ones. The nation that makes this one is secular and religion of any kind is outlawed, but in practice they are still revered as idols by those who believe these machines will keep them safe.

As for the face... Faces are hard. Mouth smaller, eyes smaller maybe. Use less pen pressure when drawing those nose, the nose should always be really subtle.

I don't understand this kind of thinking, what's the point of drawing a finished drawing if it's going to be crap since I don't know anatomy and facial structure? Until such figures are normal, until I can draw anatomy and faces normally, drawing specific characters is pointless, I know they'll be crap. This kind of thinking is found in kids who just like to draw, I think it's forgivable for Japanese kids, I watched a lot of channels where Japanese schoolchildren drew anime, with crap proportions and anatomy, but their drawings were much better than all the crap that's usually there, but it turns out, look, they're great at color, drawing eyes, and some general mood of the drawing, in the future when they study anatomy they'll become excellent. I can't do anatomy, or structure, or the mood that will make a crap drawing good, I seriously need to jerk off boxes with these figures, otherwise everything that happens further in my studies will be crap
>>
>>7437134
>This kind of thinking is found in kids who just like to draw
Do you not like to draw?
On a serious note, my anatomy, faces etc have improved a lot when I try to finish something, cause I'm really trying to do the best I can.
Obviously practicing specific things is important, but I think you also need to see the finished thing sometimes to get a feel how it all plays into each other.
I don't necessarily agree with the other anon that you need to use your grinded figures, you can also do something specifically to finish it, but the idea is the same.

I know the sticky route, but I've got a chunk of books and courses ripped so was wondering on your guys input
If you were to start out, which book or course would you start with?
I've got the following:
Anatomy For Sculptors
Gesture Drawing Dynamic Movement by Michael Hampton
Loomis Head and Hands
Dynamic Sketching 1 by Peter Han
Draw a Box lessons 1-3
The Art of Science and Drawing by Brent Evistone
Krenz perspective
Saito 1 month improvement course
and some stuff from Kim Jung Gi

I feel Draw a box to learn how to markmake -> Uldis -> Loomis -> Hampton, Han and Krenz and then Saito for fun. Been also told to maybe use Dodson as well
curious as to your thoughts?

Quick edit, and I think you were right. Probably not 100% correct, but it looks better than before.
>Also looks like he has a subtle smile, is that meant to be the case?
It wasn't, thanks for spotting that. I wanted a neutral or kind of solemn expression, tried a few things and I think it's closer now?
>>7437240
>Yes, the style shifts from the drawing to drawing too much
Ah, I see. I think you're already close, closer than I would be right now at least, I feel like everything I draw looks wildly different from the last thing.
I guess one thing I noticed in >>7437052 is that 2 has a somewhat angular and low cheek, and 4 has a rounder and higher cheek. Obviously perspective is gonna play into it though, and it's really minor, so probably not all to helpful, sorry.
>I think it's the knees
Probably related to the foreshortening issue, but yeah, I should probably define them more. I just also suck at leg anatomy
>but it kinda looks like the ground is transparent and the tip is visible.
It probably is. For a first "color sketch" I don't put down base colors usually and just work with opacity brushes. Probably just didn't put down enough color there. I do need to figure out how to do the impact though. Maybe a small crater or something.
Thank you as well for the tips.

I really only draw flowers and abstract stuff, this is my first time trying to draw stonework. It looks like shit, but at least I'm having fun. Not sure what I'm gonna do with it when I finish coloring everything in. I fucked up the perspective on the bushes immensely too, but hot watercolor press is expensive so I'm just gonna keep going instead of throwing it out.

I only draw as a hobby anyway so it's not like I'm going to actually do any harm by sticking with something even with a few mistakes.

I already got a fuck load of advice in another thread, but any feedback is welcome.

let me rephrase
i went to college wanting to become an illustrator, like a concept artist or a comic artist, but i got so disillusioned with myself that i ended up going for design jobs instead, and have been working for a marketing company for 4+ years, but whenever i want to actually draw my mind goes "why are you gonna waste time doing it when you could just type what you want and its done"
i know its absolutely lazy and corrupt of me to think like that and its why i'm trying to get over this feeling
to illustrate my point, here is a drawing i made years ago for a custom MTG token for a friend (keep in mind the printsize)
nowadays i (or even he) could just prompt an ai for it

I feel like Bridgman is even more a meme than when I tried fwap and gave up years ago. I feel like I’m drowning. I know I’m learning stuff, but I don’t know what exactly. Form, light, anatomy, gesture. It’s like it’s all crammed together and encoded in quick sketches and impenetrable language. Like the book was meant for someone who already knows all this stuff. But if they already know it, what’s the point?

how to stop masturbating instead of drawing? whenevr i have free time i always end up using it to masturbate and i never get any drawing done,
>>
>>7437690
Is it something you're doing due to actually libido or is it just habitual? First thing is to realize it's something that's actually sabotaging you. It's not harmless fun, it's frying your brain and making you an inferior man. Then again, if you're just gonna draw porn instead you might as well go on ruining yourself the common way
>>
>>7437697
i dont draw porn or anything sexual at all, i almost strictly draw men, not even women. so it has nothign to do with my art. its just the transition from having to actually do something instead of just sitting in front of a screen watching youtube or smthing that makes my wind wander to masturbation and once it enters my mind i have to do it and so before i know it ive done it and im back to watching yt again and no drawing was done, repeat cycle.
at most i get done a couple minutes of drawing before getting bored again.
>>
>>7437685
>>7437682
I think I see what you mean. I can see the form/tone/not-symbol like drawing on the right side of the brain teaches, and I have practiced pages of straight lines and circles, but there’s a disconnect between the two causing every single line to be a little off, leading to Frankenstein girl. Right? What exercise fixes this? The dot thing? Do I drop bridgeman and Loomis and go get a copy of keys to drawing and just work through it? Do I read more than the first two chapters of dotrsotb?

It doesn’t look as bad as you think imo
The vertical line in the dead center of her face which is assume is her nose could maybe be lowered a little and the lines below that, her mouth, could be centered a little.
As for the way you drew the top of her head, it makes her cranium appear too small, especially for the angle you seem to be going for with us kinda looking down at her. i'd raise that as well as the part of her hairline showing in the middle since it made her forehead look a tad bit too short especially for an anime type of style.

Many skills in drawing kinda need to be learned together, which is what makes it hard. I don't have idea about the right route, but maybe anything that teaches you about to pay attention to relations and proportions (observation) is among the first things to learn. Then basic perspective (at least 3 point), and then you could start to learn anatomy.
The most understandable sources to learn anatomy from are Scott Eaton Anatomy for Artists course, and Michael Hampton Figure Drawing Design and Invention book. Michael has a course too.

If your objective was to make it attractive, you failed, but if you meant to make it disturbing you nailed it. For some reason grotesque things that border on the sexual disturb me the most. Sex is so easily twisted into something disgusting irl, in fiction an art we can have a more literal representation of said "corruption".

>>
>>7437699
Sounds like it's habitual, your brain mechanically goes to that when there's nothing else to do. Been there, here's what you do. First you eliminate the chances you have for your brain to reach that conclusion. You need to FORCE yourself to draw or do any other activity when you catch yourself doing what usually leads to goonish practices. If it's YouTube, then don't aimlessly browse it. Secondly, and this one is less important but still necessary, make the type of porn you do watch milder. Don't watch porn videos anymore, go to /s/ or something more tame like that. I do think hentai is probably way less bad for your brain, so long as it's not hyper degenerate content(rape, cucking, cbt and so on). That way you'll hopefully start watching it less and less, and ofc you'll have to make an effort with your own willpower to do that.

Dumb question but when it comes to drawing facial expressions, especially of characters you made up, how do you do it? It seems like it'd be a pain in the ass to visualize the character doing certain expressions. Even learning the shapes/etc of the face to manipulate them seems like it's a hassle.

> do you have tips about drawing in digital too? Whenever I draw on the tablet, it's like I have lost years of experience compared to pencil and paper, probably due to friction.
I get you—this is something I work on and research a lot. I try to replicate the feel of traditional drawing. Here’s what I’ve found:
friction:
If you’re using a screenless tablet, tape a sheet of paper on it. If you’re worried about nib lifespan, there are titanium nibs—I use those.
For screens, consider textured screen protectors like healing shields.
size:
Figure out if you draw with a soft or hard touch. I aim to match the size curve to how it feels drawing traditionally with a pencil.

I draw with a soft touch. If I press too hard, I lose precision, and my lines get wobbly. Play around with the global pressure curve in your tablet or drawing app settings.
For brush size range: in traditional art, I overlap strokes to build thickness, so I keep size ranges narrow. You can do this with (1) linear curves (0–100) or (2) clamping curves, which work well with other settings like opacity.

opacity:
Since I like overlapping strokes, I usually combine opacity with a blend mode like “greater” or compare density to avoid banding. darken is nice too.

This is the only resource I’ve found that really dives into line art:

Sex with an adult woman is the healthy and natural, it does not at all relate to victimizing children. One is a natural force of life in its proper context, the other is utter corruption of what is natural, turned into something sordid and evil. Now shut the fuck up about this, you pedophile cunt.

hmmm I don't know how valuable my advice is since I clearly have problems like being bad at proportional symmetry, but my trick to lips is by using the lines to explain them. If they're big and joociey and then they actually will occlude the face behind them making a line.
The closer they are together then the thinner to line, usually they're darkest near the ends.

Here is a speeddraw of another drawing of mine.
After I lay down the rough shading/colors, I just paint ontop of the lineart. No blending modes or clipping masks, just free hand. Gives it a slightly more painterly look. Where I don't paint over the lineart I use a clipping mask to color it a bit because I don't like black lineart.
Don't think it's that special of a method to be honest

you guys know if getting a standalone tablet for drawing is worth it?
I don't like it when people walk in on me drawing, it's honestly an intimate moment where I feel insecure, so usually I only draw when I know no one will be around.
It's easy to watch anime though cause I can just close my computer when someone comes in.
right now my set up are some plastic tub containers in front of my futon which hold my laptop and wacom drawing tablet.
>>7438763
wait this style looks super familair, I can't think of where I seen something liek this before.
>>
Heads. I fucked up the third one.
>>
>>7438780
I think you have some serious privacy issues if that's a concern for you. Why are people walking on by you without warning? A dedicated screen tablet would probably draw their attention more.
>>

>>7438417
Weird how the job or religious denomination takes precedence over sexuality, in sex based crimes. Why rather Catholics when you can target openly gay men and 100x your efficiency at removing pedophiles?
>>
>>7438784
my brother went to some fancy school and so we had to sell the house to afford it, and as the NEET of the family I of course had to be ok with it. So now I live in a laundry room.
My mom said she'd get me an apartment if I went back to graduate school... but I honestly hate school a lot. I'm just not passionate about my field. And I have a really dangerous personally for myself, basically I'll agree to do almost anything people ask me even at my own detriment. 4chan is one of the few places I feel like a real person.
But yeah basically I need a set up that I can use while laying on the futon (it's just a couch) that I can hide what I'm doing. Honestly I'm not even a sick pervert anymore so I don't even draw that much porn. I just don't like bullshit like "hey watcha doing? what you up to? let me see what you got there? hey are you drawing something?"
If they find out I'm into art they're just going to ruin it.
Also you might be wondering how I have 1k in savings as a NEET, well basically I worked at a store for a month one time. But then I did something embarrassing and refuse to even go back as a customer. No I'm not going to say what happened.
>>

>>
>>7438780
>you guys know if getting a standalone tablet for drawing is worth it?
the only real advantage is portability and mobility combined with it being a screen tablet. It is a standalone computer after all. I'd say it's worth it if you travel alot and still wanna do digital on a screen tablet or are just unable to draw in a fixed setup because you just have to laze arround on various furniture pieces because you can't draw otherwise.
>>7438800

>>
>>7438804
Well no I'm not on any medication except the occasional Tylenol. I don't actually have medical insurance because I'm not in school anymore. I was thinking about enrolling for a bit just to get a check up.
As for exercise, sometimes I go and take the dog on a walk, but if I do it too much people will think I'm capable of doing it all the time. When sometimes I don't want to be "the dog guy"
>>7438805
>sounds fucking retarded
well when it was explained to me they said something like "do you have x amount of dollars? do you have any better ideas anon?"
Honestly, their idea of putting half their equity into bitcoin wasn't the worst idea I ever heard. I just worry their money is going to turn to vapor. Money is a social contract it's no real, putting it into a pseudo material form like bitcoin could be dangerous. Like if you put it into gold and buried it and a dog dug it up and stole it, or worse since technology is spooky scary. Then again I'm not really a smart or savvy guy.

Come one anon, tell us the story.
You seem to come from a wealthy family, you should take advantage of this however it's possible. why not pursue an easy degree to get your own place? You could even pursue an art degree considering you don't really have to worry about job prospects.
>>
>>7438816
Well I wanted to go and become a professional chef when I was young but they wanted a scholar. So each side doesn't complain, at least not seriously. Now I'm older and I don't really have any aspirations... there's a whole sad story about it, but I don't feel like blog posting any more. I just wanted some recommendations.
I'm really against the idea of getting any kinds of apple products (not that I worship microshit), I have become quite comfortable with krita. and when I think apple I don't think quality I think overpriced.
>>7438824
a table f.e.?
>>7438826
Fine.
No we're not wealthy, but my mom is like an inhuman worker who was able to elevate us a lot. She expects the same kind of demonic work ethic from me. She doesn't realize that when she was working all day I was being raised by the internetz. It's a funny story how I happened upon 4chan, but I digress. When I was a kid I remember we used to sleep on foam. Weirdly I'm less happy now than then. She has a PhD and is obsessed with status, her plan for me was to be a scholar too. She's remarried twice, I don't really think much about it. When men drag her down she ditches them, that's basically it, just glad she has abandoned me yet.
Here's the embarrassing story. Basically there was no such thing as allowance in my house so I got a job at the store when I was old enough and one day when I was cleaning to floors my pants broke open, not just my pants but my underpants too and everyone including my work crush saw my whole deal and so I went home in shame and never ever went back. Btw it's not funny this traumatized me.
>why not pursue an easy degree to get your own place?
actually I already have a degree, but it's useless without graduate education. I really didn't enjoy college.

Enough drawing random boxes then, draw boxes in the shape of a person. One box for the rib cage, one for the pelvis and turbes to form the limbs. Grinding perspective has been fucking melting my brain. I've stepped up from simple to more complex forms I walk away from the study sessions absolutely mentally drained. I've been dissecting motorcycle photos and trying to recreate them. I start with a large simple form to know where my vanishing points are, but once I get into the actual refining of the primitive forms, it's like my brain becomes retarded and forgets about the vanishing points I defined for myself. The upside is that I can feel my understanding of perspective actually getting better, the downside is I fucking hate my life when doing it

you draw small because you simply don't have enough knowledge of the details, your brain defaults to smaller sizes because it becomes easier to fill the gaps
in lowres a leg is basically a cylinder, but if you draw big this simply is not true, you are forced to draw all those bumps, bones and muscles if you don't want to end up with a very stylized drawing

if this is not the case and you are just autistic

True. I only really focus on it when doing lineart, and even then it's not all that good yet. When just doing sketches I try to keep it in mind, but not enough apparently, cause I forget sometime. I'll try my best to focus on it more and not just during lineart, since it's the issue that got called out.

Shift your focus to proportions and placing things where they need to be. Figure drawing is already very complicated, I think most begs would benefit from drawing an accurate still life to learn how to make proportional observations and record them onto paper. Doing a couple of Bargue plates that only have lines can help too. That way you can mostly focus on placement and less so value rendering, saves you some time too. Plenty of videos on youtube on how to do a Bargue plate study too.

The perspective of the bow makes no sense and distracts from the rest of the pic, also her face seems off, generally you should start with simple shapes and figure out where the eyes etc should go before you draw them. its a good start, but you should really learn the landmarks to place your guiding lines first, so your faces don't look flat.
I suggest you start by learning heads first then moving on to torso, avoid trying to do all at once.
>>
>>7440308
*sigh*
Grinding asarao heads I guess
>>
>>7440312
dont just mindlessly draw.
first study the landmarks of the head, looks complicated but its really easy,
The face is divided into thirds, check out how the top third is the hari line and the brow line, the second third is the brow line and the base of the nose (which also aligns with the ears) and
the base of the nose aligns with the base of he ears, and then the last third is the chin, divide that into half and you can place the mouth,
also think of the head not as a circle but as a sphere, when you build your head, be sure to slice the sides to know where the face planes separate.

I can tolerate a pedo if they're committed to overcoming their nature but lolicons are kinda different. They tend to just be depraved for the sake of it.

only if you let yourself be lower than animals. simply learn compartmentalization and learn that your soul cannot be corrupted by outside forces if you don't allow them to penetrate it, it is entirely on your whim. if you choose to give into the corruption, than that is your decision, your will. pornography does not inherently corrupt, the weakness of your spirit allows it to corrupt. if you are malleable, you must become less malleable. what are you, a moth? drawn to a flame? can't you view the flame from a distance with your human eyes? or will you let the tendrils of depravity wrap their way around your heart and eat you from the inside out

I'm just confused and frustrated.
So I started out with that book "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain", or well, I did that exercise where I turned some lineart upside down and basically freehand traced it. My hand got more stable after a week or so but I got tired of it, and it quickly got worse again. Pic related is my peak. Also, the book asks you to get a bunch of weird supplies which turned me off from following it completely.
I did also try to draw a bit from life of objects, but I quickly got frustrated. I know I'm supposed to just continue, but fuck. Should I just start copying lineart I like again until I feel ready to do all the cube exercises and all that?

Before that, I mainly doodled /prebeg/ stickmen, boxes, and explosions maybe once every month when I was bored.
