Getting close to finishing Sengoku Koihime (as if that means much, the VN is so goddamn long I have about the length of a full regular sized VN left) and while I'll probably write a longer post about it when I'm done, man does this VN have some problems. It has some really great bits, but I was very curious going in about how it would juggle having 40 heroines and the answer is 'it doesn't'. The concept of routes didn't even exist back then, in fact, you could argue that Doukyuusei was the game that pioneered this concept in eroge. What makes Doukyuusei so influential is that it was the game to kick off these trends that you still see in modern eroge today, even if Hiruta himself didn't expect this reaction. But the game itself expects you to just try to bang as many girls as possible. If you don't like the gameplay though, Doukyuusei 2 is way harsher, so you may not like it.

Most routes that had a credit roll and a post-credit scene felt, well, I wouldn't say fulfilling, but more or less complete. For example, despite the vanilla incest route being one of the shorter ones, it still had a lot of scenes, animated sex , dialogue and even pregnancy and wedding at the end.The art in H scenes was good. Plenty of animated ones. The animations were also good, boobs volume and jiggling was done right. But I still think static CGs had a bit more soul and variety. Now, while I think Mieko's(mother) corruption was mostly done right and was hot, I had to manage my suspension of disbelief throughout the game.The main reason for that being Taiki (the dekachin shota friend).I think they should've focused more on him just being delusional and seeing Mieko as a mother he never had (because this WAS a part of his character). But in the end he's just a typical manipulative NTR-guy in a shota guise. And of course he has unlimited stamina, knows how to hit the best spots during sex, is into all sorts of S&M play, has access to alchohol, drugs and hotel rooms. I know his father owns a big company and gives him money but come on. I hated the moments where Mieko would notice that he's acting like a child, but then the game would reveal that it was a ruse and Taiki is just that cunning and smart. So it only felt ridiculous at times. Especially when in some routes he becomes spiteful and starts treating Mieko as an onahole. But I guess they had to follow the tropes.I also didn't like some of the shorter routes with "bad ends".Even though they provided unique scenes, they felt rushed and sometimes spoiled things that would happen in longer routes. You learn that Hinano is a slut either right in the beginning or way later into the mid game.Despite the shortcoming, I think they nailed the whole "this is wrong and I should stop, but this makes me aroused" theme on multiple levels. Which is a theme for both Mieko and for Yuu, who wants this bullshit to end, but can't help getting horny from seeing his mom having sex.I didn't like the longest NTR route, but it still made me feel bad for the main character so I guess their writing did the job.
