How hard is the N1? Can I pass it just by watching minecraft vtubers?
>>48046073N1 is roughly the equivalent of a Japanese third grader.

I have a few questions for the anons here that are of a relatively high level at this whole 日本語 thing.1. Did spoken-Japanese lose its appeal/novelty as you became more and more fluent in the language? I’ve heard someone say that Japanese eventually sounded like normal talking and they couldn’t even really remember what it sounded like when it was all foreign to them.2. Do you feel more satisfaction at being able to understand spoken Japanese or being able to read Japanese? Which of the two do you feel more proud of accomplishing, if any?Do you now or have at any point felt more of an obsession towards the Japanese language itself rather than what you learned the language for in the first place? For example, I like many other people here decided to learn Japanese because I was getting into anime and played tons of Japanese games, however as I get further and further into learning the language I start to care less about learning for the anime and the video games and instead just care for the language itself if that make sense.
>>48046073>>48046111I would assume that the vocabulary would be limited to what’s within the game, so maybe not.

願いとは自身を叶えるもの。だが自ら願いを叶えては、人間は救われん ok i know it's just chuuniranting and i should just move on but this sentence is confusing me so much with 自身 and 自ら. 自身 can either mean oneself or something itself, so does the first sentence mean that wishes fulfill people or fulfill themselves? and the second sentence means people fulfilling their own wishes?
>>48046164wishes should be granted you from an outside force. trying to fullfill your own desires by yourself is not how humans are saved
>>48046156can i pass it by watching japanese tv then? i like watching the news...

>>480461191. It starts to feel that way a bit, but how I get more joy out of saying "oh shit, I understood that!" than thinking "oh this sounds mysterious"2. I use reading more but speaking and listening is much harder (maybe because I don't use the latter as much)3. I got into it for games and manga. I still do some of that but now I'm more interested in books and literature, also some TV dramas and documentaries. It's also interesting to read the thoughts and opinions of a radically different culture. The hardest part is that normally you do reading and such for leisure but when you're learning it's basically work, so now I do really different hobbies to relax so that I can save energy for Japanese work. As you progress some things get simpler though and it becomes less work, just takes consistent daily practice.

How many words a day do you have to learn in order to make it? I started doing 20 a day but after 500 words it starts to get a little difficult so I dropped it down to 10 words a day, however now I fear that it’s too little and will make it take forever to get at a reasonable level, and I’ve seen some say that anything less than ~500 words a month is not enough. What the fuck do you guys recommend?

>>48051797I aim for 15-20 new cards per day, plus however many cards I push out to over a year through repetition. Like a snowball rolling down a hill, it builds up momentum and doesn't let up. I've been at it for two years, so I've got something like 15,000 words in circulation on my Anki decks, plus my grammar cards. Some of them are super useful, and some are so niche that I saw or heard them once a year ago and have never seen them again since.

I've been thinking of increasing my new cards per day limit on anki to about 30, I'll be learning more but it'll also take more time which I don't really mind because I like learning the language. The thing I'm worried about is if the increased amount of cards will decrease my retention, what do you guys think?

>>48052739lol okay ill try to get my hands on that
>>48052734I am the anon that was just arguing for 80 cards, so I might be a bit biased. What is your new cards at right now? Do you use FSRS? If you don't it will most likely impact your a retention little bit yes. Otherwise it will just slightly increase the load. The biggest indicator for how much new cards impact you is how much you already know. Say for example you are at 4級 level in kanji and you were to suddenly at card that only contain 3級 then it will impact it a little bit. HOWEVER, once you get over that little barrier it becomes easier again and probably wont be as bad as you first believed it to be.In conclusion, just try and if it doesnt work out just stop.

I was watching a video about kanji that were not in the 漢検 (and spoke with a kanken learner) and then decided to look for some very common 1級 kanji that i had not collected yet. Looking for rare kanji in natural text is unfortunately almost impossible after a certain point, something a bit more common like 羯鼓 only appears like once in an entire collection of books. I find them personally by searching in kanji frequency dictionaries, kanji dictionaries (looking for radicals/components) and kanken tests.>>48054135I personally use the kanken font, because using Epistularum's font requires me to check for inofficial 書き換え字 such as 弁論 so if you don't look out youre just reading anachronistic bullshit. I also should look into how he justified his choice, because he makes some non-standard choices.
