The other day I started reading properly again, after doing between the bare minimum and fuck all roughly entire autumn.
Even with the gap, I like my progress. I think I could manage reaching full fluency in another year, provided some disaster doesn't strike me, like illness or getting employed.

N3 was much easier than expected. I haven't taken N4 or N5, so much in the N3 felt like stuff I would have expected in N4 or even N5 sometimes

Took the N3 today. Have never taken any classes or done any prep for the exam.
Kanji/Vocab was incredibly easy (I've already studied about 2000 kanji).
Answering grammar with multiple choice was a lot more annoying that I thought. I'm used to reading grammar and then understanding it, so having to figure out which grammar points were being tested in each question was vague enough that although I was going off of intuition, it almost felt like I was guessing a lot. Didn't manage to read the last part due to time (I should have skimmed the earlier reading instead of actually reading them) but everything I read was very straightforward and I understood pretty much every word and sentence that I had the time to read
Listening was quite hit or miss. It took me a few questions until I managed to get used to the style of questioning.
Overall, I've no idea how well I did. They only host the exam here once a year, so if I end up failing, I might just skip a year and try the N2 in two years time when I should be far better with the language. I don't have the energy to resit the N3 in a year's time again.
I feel dumb for not even at least trying to prep for the paper/question style. Guess I'll know in a few months time whether I overestimated my skill
