What do you guys think about frequency lists over mining? I argued to my friend that with tools like jpdb, learning words in frequency order is the most efficient way to raise your average comprehension of Japanese. Unless if you know enough words that you only encounter words seldomly usedHe went on about the "benefits" of mining over trusting a "soulless list", but I don't really see the value of i+1 sentences, images or "learning from what you read". You're going to encounter the word anyway. Learning the 10k most common words in order is going to benefit you more than mining.
What should I listen to at work all day to immerseI don’t think something like audiobooks would work since I can’t fully pay attention to a book and work so I guess I’m just asking for radio or podcast suggestions

any meaningful difference between 沖合 and 沖? if yes which is it?
>>48467750frequency lists are probably the most efficient in terms of overall comprehension but the issues arrive from how vast the actual language is to learntechnical terms rare words and common phrases are all going to come at you jumbled together so the main benefit of mining is that youll learn faster with terminology thats more relevant to your interestsit also allows you to learn everything within its proper context and narrative which could possibly help increase retention tldr if youre just learning as a hobby then mine but if you need to pass the jlpt anytime soon then go with a more systematic approach

>>48467750The problem with frequency lists is once you get past the most basic of basics(2k is the commonly used threshold) you start running into bias problems. Ultimately there's no getting around that there's no objective "frequency". You can encounter this yourself even in your native language by going onto a forum for a topic you don't have any interest in, like finance for example, and finding yourself functionally illiterate. Therefore once you have a basic foundation you should pursue things you individually enjoy. If you want to watch yakuza flicks you should do that and not care that some niche yakuza word is like 47k in frequency. This is why I don't understand people who mine, but only after checking against a frequency list and seeing if it passes an arbitrary line they drew. If you saw it naturally then it should obviously go into the queue even if it's "uncommon" on paper.
>七秭 八千百五十三垓 六千百九京 八千八百三十八兆 九百四十二億 四千百九十九万 五百五十一man my mouth would fall off reading all thatthat reminds me. do people write large numbers? the ime returned nothing when i tried inputting 京 and up

i dont learn i acquirei dont immerse i input
most importantly you dont output
>>48468360if you're lazy and don't get enough input and aren't going to make it, frequency lists become more important.if a word is more common in one VN than another then the low-inputter won't get enough input for that "common" word to really stick so they shouldn't even mine it.
>>48470622What amount of input would you call low?
5 sentences per day
dame thats a lot of sentencessince when did djt get standards
The most important part of learning Japanese is having fun :D
dame that's like 10 secs of watching tv
i dont agree with that statement
10 seconds of tv could change your life. 5 sentences of a boring vn will send you to ngmiville

>>48465674I don't read vns because reading most vns requires running nonfree software. Manga, anime or LNs are much better because you can consume them with only libre software, e.g. mpv for anime, nsxiv for manga, crqt-ng for books. Most visual novels should be avoided since they are proprietary.https://www.gnu.org/proprietary/https://www.gnu.org/proprietary/malware-games.html
>>48465998visual novels are a lot like nofap when you think about it:•"self-improvement" faggots play them•cult-like following•redditors love them•obsession with number of words read•does not actually help you with anything•the language in them is as removed from japanese as korean or chinese•no success stories•prevent you from reading real books written by actual writers •must install a bunch of shady software (texthookers, keyloggers, whatever) just to run a vn•proprietary software that does not respect your freedom www.gnu.org/proprietary•malware•they make you more miserable in the end
>>48467750>>48459657>>48459634jpdb is a scam site. they want you to pay for a shady service that will slow down your learning. the site promotes ineffective learning methods. no one should know about it so please don't mention it. also, no one needs it to learn japanese.
>>48471008How does not jerking off give you malware?
>>48471008didnt realize nofap prevents you from reading real books
>>48471035I don't use the site to study flashcards, I only use its scrapped frequency list to put the most common words found in the media I consume into anki. It also shows which definitions of a word is less common, which is helpful for making cards
