Previous thread: >>48534833This thread is for the discussion of untranslated Japanese visual novels. What are you playing? What are you looking forward to? What have you finished?
Found an interesting blog (their eroge posts are under 〇エロゲ個別感想)http://5nemu5.blog33.fc2.com/
>>48570755>Christmasyou're several days too late
The previous thread got bump limited by random losers so I'm asking it here again. Any news on new Hulotte and CUBE next year?
>>48571182CUFFs just released a game in collaboration with Azarashi Soft. Apparently the routes are pretty decent.
>>48570858Good find. I always want to see Japanese opinion that are not EGS users.
>>48571201Yea but the rest of 2024 is empty from them so I'm hoping 2025 will be it.
>>48571201I wonder why they decided to use the CUFFS brand for it instead of CUBE when it doesn't look anything like CUFFS' other games and doesn't share any of their major staff (writers, artists, etc.)
I want to like Hulotte's eroge, but they tend to squander the cool gimmicks they come up with and I end up just being disappointed. Their artists do good H-scene work, though, I will admit.
>>48571252>but they tend to squander the cool gimmicks they come up with and I end up just being disappointedAre there any moege with cool gimmicks that actually use them well?
>>48571257Clochette games tend to do better with their gimmicks.
yes, we need more gimmick.
Just finished Evolimit, was a banger for sure. Final battle got up to some ridiculous levels, just how i like it
>sub 8.00*yawns*
>>48571490Propeller's games look nice. Hopefully I'll have the time to check out Evolimit next year since I'm in a chuuni/action mood.
>>48571505It should definitely scratch that chuuni itch. I very much enjoyed the non-action aspects too
>>48546324I always like to recommend Axanael as an easy VN. It wasn't the first VN I read in JP but it was the first that made me go "Yeah this was worth the effort, this one VN makes it worth it"The story is a love letter to otakuism. Sakura's route literally starts with a gun fight at Winter comicket because she can't get a doujin she needs. The story is dialogue heavy which makes it an easy read. The UI and intro paragraphs are probably the hardest parts
>>48570755TO that one anon who was interested: Scarlett is pretty fun so far. give it a go.
>>48570755>What are you playing?Nursery Rhyme. Finished the routes for Makina, Yukina, and Tita, and currently doing Rin's route and saving Krile's for last. Fun charage with awesome art/music and cute interactions, I wanted to finish the game before the end of the year but I got distracted by a bunch of silly stuff so it'll end up extending a little into January.>What are you looking forward to?Just Anemoi so far, might pick up other new games depending on how much other people praise them.
>>48570858>disappears forever because fc2 are stupid bitchesnothing personnel
The girl i like the most always ends up being whoever route I did first
>read oretsuba, they said>Jackson's prose is mind-blowing, they saidI'm just shitposting, this VN is fucking wild holy shit, I'm somehow completely unspoiled and knew literally nothing and it's absolutely nuts so far.
>>48571726The opening didnt sell the game for me and the spanish song was weird.
>>48573924It seriously looks like a hell of a fun VN from the screenshots I've seen.
>>48571252This is like thr 5th time I've seen someone say this about Hulotte. Scared me off of installing orefukachi
babe wake up, another kohki meltdown dropped
>>48574524Is there a release date for After yet?
>>48574524cat on the left has a cock
>>48573940I liked it from the opening, and the spanish skng was weird but in a good way. It's fun so far. (Mid chapter 1)
>>48571724>The story is a love letter to slopglad i dodged the bullet
>>48575127otakuism*what are you even doing here? you should leave /jp/...
>>48571724I mean i like iwayuru otaku contents and all the creative fanart and doujins and videos and all that stuff but I don't necessarily like when a work gets meta and is about that. Sometimes it can be really good like in Lucky Star
>>48575166>>48575140>>48575127>>48571724shitposting aside, has anyone here read comic party? is it really 70h long?
>>485745602025
>>48574189discussed it last thread and that isn't even all. Here's him schizoing on some guy that complained
So whatever happened to minato soft's wagahime gacha? Did it crash and burn as it should?

Uh-oh, erogebros, I thought japs know difference between real life and fiction?
>>48576477monobeno?
>>48576535Yeah. Not sure about what should I read next, considering giving monobeno a try.
Lupercalia, monobeno, rewrite...
>>48576477Seems like a westoid passing shit through mtl, japanese would use lolicon, specially someone reading otaku media
>>48573924is this recommended to read prelude before the main game, or it's not needed?
>>48576739Yeah it's better to read this, other than the parts included in the main game.
>>48576477A lot of the younger/newer otakus aren't fans of toddler shit
>>48577395Thats why you're supposed to start reading lolige at 13 yo when you're close to loli heroines yourself
>>48570755She's a real cutie!
>>48577559>13 yo when you're close to loli heroines yourselfMonobeno is closer to like 5 or 6
>>48577559Primula... My childhood love...
Monobeno protag face looks so retarded I don't want to read it anymore
>>48575631what the fuck is his problem
>>48577717the fucking retard sold his IP because some guy at Avex told him they'd finally animate Alternative (they did, it sucked and S3 got cancelled). What you're seeing now is a man that has spent 7 years of life trying to convince himself that he hasn't fucked up massively and that things can still be turned around if fans just support the next project. Not the 3-5 previous next projects, but the new next project. That will finally do it.
>>48578136He fucked his golden goose beyond repair
>>48578136>>48578490Just make another one lol.
>>48566499https://vndb.org/v1704
>>48578504On his stream he once told a story about how he was trying to pitch a slice of life anime script, but every party he went to rejected him because they knew him as the "kiminozo and muv luv guy" and thus expected the anime to have a big twist, but Kouki kept insisting it doesn't and is actually perfectly normal. They all refused to believe him and thought he's going to reveal it halfway through production and fuck the project in the ass. He's like that superman actor that killed himself because everyone only knew him as superman, he'll never get a new project going.
>>48578814kek
>>48578814ok that's actually hilarious
holy mother of soul
Other than Setoguchi, are there any other VN authors that have produced light novels? Or any other typical novels that you think are worthwhile.
>>48579143Kinguasa. Though as much as I enjoy CoTE, calling it worthwhile would be a stretch
>>48579258Big fan of Kinugasa's VNs even despite most of them lacking satisficing endings, mainly akagoei. I couldn't get into CoTEI gave it a read for the first volume and I didn't really like the MC, big stepdown from Kaito, Hidetaka or even RukaI also don't have a good impression for how things turn out later from what I've seen
>>48579143cross channel man
>>48579294>Big fan of Kinugasa's VNsWhat does each VN excel at? I was thinking Akagoei but Ryuusei's girls look better. I'm not sure which to read in my holiday.
>>48579301Main thing they share are charming/fun protagonists, Both the MCs for Akagoei and Ryuusei are funny and massive assholes. Reminiscence is a bit different, MC is good and the general setting is interesting and there's some battle of wits to go around, not the best but serviceable. Also has one of my favorite imoutos, she's NBR but the story with her and the character herself are great
>>48578814i almost feel badbut i don't because he's the kiminozo and muv luv guy
>>48579347It's his punishment for the alien NTR.
>>48578955>not on a CRT monitorsoul gone
What's the difference between Plus and normal mode in Custom Reido 5?
>>48579301You read Akagoei because of Kaito and humor not because of heroines, though those are good, just don't expect any coherent plot and ending. Reminiscence is mid as fuck but Rin makes it worth it, top tier girl, though once again for all the talk about how brilliant MC is he gets outsmarted on all main plot points, lmao
>>48579143If you don't count spinoffs of their vn's, so only original ln's: Sakurai Hikaru,Yuuichirou Higashide, Kinoko Nasu, Fumiaki Maruto, Mareni, Kurashiki Tatsuya, Mikawa Ghost, SCA-Ji, Hoshizora Meteor, Minakami Tomohiro, Hayakari Takeshi and probably a ton of other who I can't remember rn.
>>48583612And fucking Zero no Tsukaima was written by vn author as well, so you can say all isekai shit that is popular right now is thanks to vn writer, lol.
>>48583649The current isekai craze is more attributed to WN bullshit. At least with VN and LN there's some kind of editorial filter to sift through trash while nowadays half popular trash WN get to have an anime.
>>48583649Zero no Tsukaima didn't invent isekai though. Trends just come and go like how mecha used to e popular in the 90s - early 00s.
>>48583649i thought mushoku tensei/re zero/konosuba started the isekai trend
>>48584100It was SAO despite not being technically isekai
I wanna play Astra Air, but I'm worried I won't like it as much as I did Memoria because I've gotten tired of VNs and lately nove many have been worth the time I put into them.
>>48584097Narou started as fanfic site and like 80% of it's output at the start was ZnT fanfics about people being summoned by Loise, Re Zero author started his writing career from ZnT fanfics, and I'm sure he was not the only one.>>48584097Mecha was much more popular in 70-80s than in 90s though, like half of 70s anime output was super-robot shit because Mazinger Z made billions in merch.
>>48584543Then wait until you want to play some? It's not like the game is going to disappear tomorrow. Just go read some books or something
This is gonna be very specific rant but secondhand prices for older eroge and older JPRGs even with JP copies has gone up due to western anime social media influencers. This is annoying as hell since i don't want to shell out $70 for a game.Fuck Scalpers.Thank fuck for piracy.
>>48584878I knew that it's all over once we have anime 'influencers'.
>>48584878You're buying from the wrong places then. I bought around a dozen copies of jp ps1/2 games and didn't encounter any outrageous pricing. I even bought 月下の夜想曲 for $50 when the english version is well over $200. The most expensive secondhand game I got this year was Langrisser 4/5 final edition for about $100.
>>48584878Why would westoids buy untranslated japanese games because their youtuber told them to?
>>48585399for the same reason you play untranslated games simply because eops can't play them
>>48585399internet rep maybe. Like buying japanese mario games or zelda for collection even though they can't read basic hiragana.

Where can I find eroge's OSTs? I mean, when they aren't on the cat's website, nor on youtube/spotify. Some of them are on bilibili, since japs don't seem to take them down there, but chinks compress songs way too muchcan't find vocal collection for untri and hakkenden>>48586323well, writing something is still better than not, so he isn't wrongthough that would be true for anyone else, not just him

Can you please recommend a game where every heroine is an anime, manga or a cosplay otaku?Maybe something like Hamikuri but set in a manga club or a doujin circle.
Happy New Year. This year for sure...
https://x.com/yuzusoft/status/1874108255150223363New Yuzu this year.
>>48586511>>48588008>>48587363Thanks, I guess... I wish there was an easier way beside being in a secret club or making an account on some shady russian website. I guess there is a chink website for eroge's osts somewhere, or else they wouldn't be on bilibili every time
>>485922622025 off to a good start
>>48592262Looks like a pretty good year for moege fans already.New yuzusoft, amakano 3, marmalade, asaproject , another hamidashi fd and the project koku's working on for purplesoft.
Yuzusoft games are like eating cardboard. I've played some three or so and always dropped just as the route that I'm going for is about to end. Both the protags and the heroines feel so fucking common and "trite" that I can't work up the motivation required to power through what's left. On top of that the story of the game is always just some filler shit that exists for the purpose of occupying space, with no greater meaning, so that reduces my motivation even further.
>>48592443I like the older games of theirs that I've played. Is there a consensus for when the Yuzusoft formula starts? I haven't played any of those yet.
Oh hey, I forgot this was happening. Pretty sure it was supposed to be a 2024 release though.
>>48592262Hopefully no lolis so I can laugh at them
B-but dead medium etc
>>48592443I wouldn't use same harsh words as you, but this is similar to what I felt after giving Amakano a try.Maybe my depression level was not high enough to enjoy a pure moege like that. And I specifically played it because I was feeling depressed and wanted something pure and cheerful with romance.Yuzusoft games work nicely as a comedy if you like the writing. Azarashisoft's comedy just wasn't as funny to me.
>>48586386send me the VGMDB link and I will see if I can get those for you
>>48592575I like Amakano, but even I can admit that Amakano 1 is a bit of a snoozefest. The writing gets better in Second Season.
This year, i want a lot of gyarus.

I'm noticing a lot of votes on old VNs this year on vndb all of a sudden. Stuff from 2004 that had 5 votes and last got voted in 2014 suddenly have two more votes this year. Hmmm

Question: if I were going to translate a VN myself (it isn’t a massive one so I understand the undertaking isn’t huge) what would the best way to format it beI was thinking some sort of excel sheet with the character names, lines and translated lines as columnsI ask because I’m doing this randomly for a Japanese dlsite user I know as a surprise and don’t have access to the actually game script or whatever

Looking a behind the scenes of 誰彼it seems leaf had a lot of hopes for it, like an anime opening, new gameplay system and all.I wonder if it getting a ps2 port with enhancements later on would have helped it like it did with ルーツ and うたわれるもの since both were received in same way at first as tasogare but less harsher. Probably not,lol
Happy New Year other /jp/!
I need help. I visited Tokyo in October 2023, and I remember seeing a poster in Akihabara for a visual novel that should have come out a few months after October. I'd like to read it now, but I can't remember any details besides the fact that it was a moege (from the look of the poster) and that it was about sirens or some island or summertime in general. does it ring any bell?

Games that got fucking SWITCH releases were banned from steam.Censoring your game won't do shit, you'll still get banned. And also you're just fearmongering since Yuzusoft has been getting their VNs on steam since 2017 and so far there hasn't been ny censorship. Also fucking Maitetsu is on steam.

I finished 催眠性指導 -Secret Lesson- and for a complete nukige... honestly airi made me fall in love... just for her 10/10The game was way too autistic with requirements for different endings or scenes with the order of picking and what week you act or what order... but whatever, even if I was a bit disappointed about it just being as vanilla as mind control gets it's still gonna age very well, probably one of the best mind control games out there right now.The Airi epilogue made me go gosling for sure.
>>48617816If it wasn't over in 2023 why would it be over now? Also some of their old games skipped having any lolis, so even if their next game did turn out not to have one it wouldn't necessarily have anythign to do with what you're saying

>>48630614You learn to read Japanese by reading Japanese. You see the same words in context over and over again in the process of reading and you'll memorize them naturally.Once you get to the point where you know all of the words in a sentence but one, you can generally work out what the missing word means through context clues.

>>48630736I assure you, I read Japanese without a dictionary using context clues all the time.I do this in English too. Take this sentence for example:>I saw a really cute okapi at the zoo yesterday!Even if I don't know already know what an okapi is, from context I can make a very confident guess that it's an animal. The same concept applies to Japanese.Mind you, it's still a smart idea to use a dictionary when you see a new word in case you're just wrong, but it isn't strictly necessary once you reach a certain level of mastery of a language.
>>48630706>FYI download some text to speech shit like voicebox (what jp videos tend to use) and feed it whatever you're reading if it's not voiced, it's much faster to learn that wayGenius tier. I'll do this now anon thank you.

>>48630938No, dipshit, I don't have to look it up, I have to wait until I hear someone pronounce it, which in a visual novel usually takes about ten seconds.Even if I could commune with the 神々 and get the reading for every word I see beamed into my skull when the moment I see it, it wouldn't fucking matter at all because the precise pronunciation of obscure words has about as much relevancy to my ability to read a visual novel as what color socks I'm wearing.

>>48631079sorry, i meant Visual Novel™ by elf™ (formerly Sound Novel™ by Chunsoft™)
>>48630952I did Anki for about six months and made a very unimpressive amount of progress in that time. When I switched to reading visual novels I saw much faster improvement in my abilities and quickly stopped doing Anki entirely because I felt it was a waste of my time compared to reading. It varies from person to person, but I don't think heavy isolated vocabulary studies are very efficient. They can be good for quickly memorizing foundational, important vocabulary like colors, numbers, days of the week, that are easier to learn in the context of each other than they are to learn through gradual osmosis. And if you want to put Anki on your phone and do it while eating breakfast or whatever that's obviously going to be a lot better than nothing. But after you've reached a very basic, foundational level of Japanese (like a preschool reading level) I think that all prime studying time should be used on reading, not flashcards.
>>48631077Why are you so obsessed with pronunciation?Yes, if I read an unvoiced visual novel, I may pronounce some words wrong in my head while I'm reading it. If it's a play on words or a pun, or perhaps something poetic, this could mildly affect my enjoyment of the book for the ten second period of time between me reading the word and looking up how its pronounced. Or I could ignore it, and keep going, and still probably enjoy the book pretty much exactly as much as I would have anyway. What a horrible state of affairs. Clearly I should never have learned Japanese at all, and invested the time I wasted on it into a more rewarding pursuit like competitive Scrabble or the Simpsons Hit and Run any% speedrunning community.

Finished Koharu's route. White Album 2 is actually really similar to KimiNozo. The general structure is more or less the same. The main difference is that the writing is 20x better in White Album 2 and the side girl routes aren't braindead stupid. Well so far anyways, but I don't expect that to change.
