Oh that's me. Sorry for not following up yet.

Something stupid happened; essentially Xiyan's script was so obtuse and difficult (combined with the RPG maker environment and limitations) it was really draining 5.6 Sol's usage to the point it was taking forever, then 6 Sol came out, and I thought "Okay, perfect time to test 6 Sol," but then, as is so common a sob story nowadays, I realized 6 Sol was fucking trash... but only after it had translated half the script. So I've decided I need to retranslate the entire thing, but I've been using my usage for programming work and haven't had a good opportunity to do so with a good model yet.

Once I get a good moment I can just throw it into a better model for translation. Everything else was fine; I playtested and there were no bugs in the early parts. So it's just a matter of feeding Opus or Astra the translation kit with the untouched xlsx and asking it to translate.

Not engaging in any of the argument, but my frank analysis is this, there is no way someone both acknowledges that MTL is as good as humans and is an extremely useful QC tool... yet then claims it was only used rarely.

No serious translator who experiments with AI QC won't start using it heavily. They'll see their own dogshit 85% to 95% accuracy rate with a list of their errors spat at them and feel terrible. Then they will feel anxious and compelled to check the QC all the time to make sure their new translations aren't so shitty.

It's no wonder Sayooshi would be 99.5% accurate or whatever. The guy is not stupid and realized its usefulness, and used it. The question that remains is why he is so obstinately lying about it. Either he's trying to hide his use of MTL (which would be in his self-interest) or he's one of the best translators in the world who is nonetheless quitting translation because MTL is so good. It's like saying any serious translator would use spellcheck. The absolute worst case for an AI QC is that it gives no feedback and spits back that everything was perfect, which obviously is still worth a check. In any realistic case though it will spit back many genuine problems. What serious translator would have access to infinite instant free translation QC checking and then ignore it? Obviously for professionals one should check with staff and follow the directive of the translation manager on what to do so as to not violate any policies, but in what world should a serious fan translator spurn infinite free QC to improve their release?

As another person said, you can do it for fun then have AI check it over to improve and clean out mistakes. I don't think being motivated by having fun fundamentally means that one will suddenly not care about comprehension errors and mistakes in their work. That's why I say it is close to disrespectful to not use AI QC, barring company policies putting one's job at risk; it means one is more interested in pride, self-satisfaction, whatever than improving and releasing good, error-free work to people. The imagined free-spirited fan translator just in it for fun who doesn't give a shit about quality is probably not the ideal imaginary counter to AI QC being good for basically every translator to use.

Though I do feel bad for the Sayooshi translator. I feel as if he was baited into this trap. He may have seen people praise AI QC, decided to AI QC his work on Sayooshi, and then suddenly he is being blasted because the inhuman 99.5% accuracy rate reveals what was done. Where do you see the psychosis specifically? I find his analysis of the incentives quite plausible. Any translator can use the current models for free to quickly check their own work. If it improves the overall accuracy and accelerates their translation process, most will probably integrate it into their workflow. Once this integration process is set into motion, AI usage for translation becomes the new normal and will gradually expand. This probably follows a general pattern of technological automation.
