The US Navy released new slides about the upcoming Battleship and Frigate
>>64763722>The Navy really wants several dozen more Burkes, but also wants them to cost half as muchSo... Build three times more? Economies of scale plus that way you can replace the older ones. The older ones can go to allies or sold to third worlders once they strip off AEGIS or anything that we'd not want to end in brown hands.
>>64763475>Defense engineering and anything tangentially related to it are probably the whitest industries in the country, owing to the clearance requirements to work on anything interesting/important.That's my point, and its true of any industry from petroleum to basic civil engineering assuming you want quality. My point is that the political institutions don't like spending money which will filter down to those they consider a political threat or give them more bargaining power by providing them with high status jobs. You can trust H1B-jeets with generating spaghetti code using existing algorithms, not so much with nuclear reactors no matter how intrinsically safe.

>>64763458Because we need to rebuild our shipbuilding industry. Outsourcing any more of it abroad is retarded and will only make our current problems worse.
>>64763788There isn’t the capacity to do that currently. The shipbuilding issue is a result of chronic underinvestment by Congress post peace dividend, leading capacity issues and consistent underperformance, leading to program cancellations which exacerbate the underinvestment issue. There’s finally some interest in addressing this, but it’s unfortunately something that will take 5-10 years and require a few hundred billion more in the defense budget. There’s at least some Republican interest in seeing that happen, but given how useless Congress has been at passing budgets lately I’m not keeping my hopes high. >>64763791That really isn’t what’s happening. The government consistently gets sticker shock when they see how much money an effective military costs, only spend that money when a major foreign adversary forces them to, and immediately cut it as soon as the threat goes away, just for the whole cycle to repeat a few decades later. It’s been this way for over a century. We saw something similar when famous race warrior Josephus Daniels was Wilson’s naval secretary. The Navy consistently requested more money for battleships to keep up with foreign designs, were refused until progressed far enough to spook Congress, finally got the money they asked for, only for the war to end, leading to an entire international naval treaty system being proposed by American lawmakers to avoid actually spending all that money on the Navy. Leading shipbuilding to then languish until the mid/late 1930s when another clear threat presented itself, leading to massive investment in the Navy and shipbuilding, which was then sustained until the end of the Cold War, at which point the budget was again hollowed out leading to the current predicament.
Top is a bronze 1/2x28 G19 barrel from L2D Combat, it works, everything is fine. Bot is a factory barrel that came with a factory used stock G17 gen 4 from Austria, but I can't fit any 13,5x1LH or 1/2x28 thread protector. Thread crown is slightly damaged ; it doesn't seem so bad and you have to illuminate it and zoom a lot so you can notice. What do you think ? I can't really buy another barrel in my country. Many thanks /k/ommando, I'd like to use a can at some point.

You can actually check the major with even something as inaccurate as a calliper, to get a good idea unless it's an unusual designation/However you can deburr the crown of the thread with a coarse stone and it'll be fine as long as you make it smooth enough, unless you're completely cack-handed or removing visibly large amounts of metal

I have a hard time understanding my own stuff : one of my 1/2x28 protector can't pass the first pitch, it's just blocked. My other 1/2x28 can go like 1/3 of the whole threading and then stops there. My two 13,5x1LH are not twisting at all in the pitches, they just go freely and "float" around the threading, barely catching pitches here and there. Like their diameter is too large.

Is it just me or does the final quest of Peripeteia really lopsided>secular PSR captain and scientist want to use the massive pile of dead soldiers to create autonomous cyborg drones so less people have to die to the meat grinder, only negative thing about their side is the captain is kind of a dick>Catholic PSR captain and the priest want to bury the bodies because of belief in the resurrection and keep sending living troops to the frontlines, also the captain is heavily augmented but acts like augmentations are sinful, sends people he doesn't like on suicide missions, and the "priest" isn't even and ordained priest and is a woman disguised as a man who may have a romantic relationship with the captainIf I didn't know the dev himself was a hardcore Polish Catholic I'd assume he was trying to shit on Catholicism. I'm assuming since he is Catholic he just assumed the burial option was the more morally correct option, so he tried to make the burial side look more flawed to make the choice a little less black and white, but if your not Catholic yourself it's just really heavily skewed towards the zombie cyborg option. It's weird because Belgrade does show how fucked up the government can get with augmentations and bio-engineering, you'd think there'd be stronger arguments against the secular side but it's only really framed as bad because "Catholocism says bodies NEED to be buried"
