Which one makes more sense?
>>
>>61940422
ATACS AU is pretty good. Expensive though.
>>
>>61940422
Depends on the desert. For something like the Mojave or Sonoran deserts where there are lots of little scraggly desert plants, plain OCP is actually the most effective thing by far. For sand dunes or bare clay, something simpler is probably superior
>>
>>61940422
Anything good for more red colored sands?
>>
>>61940516
Chocolate Chip is probably decent. The Omanis made a orange/red forward pattern that you can get pretty cheap through surp sites and eBay rn. Something to look at. Never worn it myself, no idea about the quality of the garments.
>>
>>61940422
Forget sense, chocolate chip my beloved…
>>
>>61940422
It depends. Deserts aren't all the same. Chocy chip was developed out in the south west of the US where its very rocky. It works great there. It does not work well in the sandy deserts of the middle east and north africa. 3 color dcu however does. Troppentarn isn't a true desert pattern. Its meant for sparse tropical areas with some vegetation.
>>
>>61940422
God I love living in New England but I wish the sovlful desert camos were even remotely usable here.
Desert flektarn and choccy chip make me diamonds
>>

Should be separated into lowland and highland categories

>lowland desert (Saudi Arabia, Iraq, etc.)

DCU

>highland desert (Afghanistan)

DBDU

Instead of wasting billions on Multiscam (also wasting untold billions on a UCP detour), the US Army should have just restarted production of DBDUs for use in Afghanistan. It was literally designed with use in mountainous deserts in mind.
>>
>>61941377
A lot of afghan isn't desert tho, OCP makes sense in the wooded areas.
Heck, even UCP worked in the craggy rock terrain
>>
>>61940422
Chocolate Chip and Tropentarn are so cool.

Feels very similar to a British hot weather DDPM set (similar fabric blend I’d assume), so overall not bad.

Tropentarn literally means "camo for troops" in German.
>>

Pretty sure tropentarn was a nickname anyway and the actual pattern is called wüstentarn.

multicam, brushtroke, vegetato, multi Fleck for normal deserts with vegetation, transitional desert shrubland/chapparal, arid grasslands
>>

Entirely terrain dependent, even for similar deserts. I'd argue desert camo is more specific than any woodland pattern. Get the colors slightly wrong, stand out.

I agree that camouflage patterns are nearly useless for signature reduction—wearing an appropriate drab nature color like khaki or feldgrau does most of the heavy lifting, and the nuances of the actual pattern you wear are off in diminishing returns land—but you still need a camouflage pattern fighting uniform so that you and the enemy can tell each other apart without the indignity of wearing brightly colored armbands like kids at a flag football match.

I think the LWH is the perfect one, keeps the brim but updates what actually needed updating, like the strapping and material.
Not sure if what I've done with the cover is cursed or soulful. I mean it's close enough to woodland. Can't use the M81 covers since this one uses the new velcro system and all the woodland ones have to be tied to something. And they're all too small.
For your sake, UCP autist, I actually did initially buy a UCP cover with the intent of dyeing it, but I just returned it and did this. You gotta force these covers over the brim slightly but it works.

In some desert environments, it is sometimes best to simply wear a solid color. Paradoxically, camouflage can attract the eye when it is too complex (chocolate chip) or contains too bright colors (Omani camo). This situation also applies to artic camonmn4

I am once again shilling for the most underappreciated woodland pattern ever made: 5.11 Woodland TDU. If you live anywhere where the forest floor resembles picrel then it's the nearest thing to an invisibility cloak there is. I bet you didn't even notice I hid a swatch of it in the middle of the photo. It's like MARPAT but just better.

Unfortunately it's discontinued and they only ever made the shirt and pants from it, so you'll have to scour ebay and mix and match gear with it.

friends, here is the template for the tentative version 3 of the /k/amo map. if you remember this it's cause i tried it a few years ago but didn't get much interest

i'll repost this in the inaugural /camo/ general after this thread runs its course but the tldr is:
> submit your favorite camo for your region. don't want anyone doxing themselves so it's honor system for where you say you live. votes will be weighted by how good a case you make, strongest votes will include demonstration photos and written articulation of why your pattern is best pattern. if you can't go out for photos atm then use photoshop with photos from your area, google maps is your friend. beginning with summer edition for obvious reasons

my example vote for my own region #3 for pencott greenzone:

> people generally underestimate just how lush and green new england gets in the spring and summer. we get plenty of precipitation and sunlight so plant life really thrives, and unlike most patterns the green in greenzone is light enough to actually blend with said plantlife (most patterns use a green that's too dark imo). also important is the amount of browns and tanks balancing that green so you still blend with terrain and don't stick out too much. downside is it's becoming harder to find, wildwood is similar but inferior imo. good runner up would be concamo.

(forgot to mention I'd like to include runners up as well since it's silly to pick just one per region in most cases)

please make sure you specify your region when you vote

mind if i save this and try to make something for you? the mud adds an interesting color/texture that something like peadot or fleck might help with. Got pictures of the treeline too?

also wouldnt mind doing shooping for this!

For 40, it really depends on the season. Alpenflage trousers with a dark top work well in fall. I'd say flecktarn is pretty good in the woods proper in summer.
Winter, you would need like Marine snow camo.

I won't tell anyone what to post for their regions, but I'll say that snow is white no matter where you are, so unless your area gets consistent winter snowfall I wouldn't bother posting a snow camo. I'm in 3 which is pretty far north but our winters have been mild lately, my fall / winter reccomendation will be brown and tan, and if I need to blend into snow I'll carry a snow pattern tarp or a white bedsheet or something
>>
>>61974298
Is that death valley? New rule, I'll only accept timestamped photos for death valley lol. Go forth and die for /k/
>>
>>61974183
40 is definitely Finnish M05
>>
>>61974434
sorry didn't realize we needed to justify it.

The M05 pattern is optimal for the coniferous North Woods region because it's green match the darker evergreen trees and the reddish brown undertones match the iron heavy soil of the region. Having three specialized patterns for summer, intermediate, and winter means that it is especially adapted to all seasons of the climate.

I'd also choose this over Multicam tropic or CADPAT because of it's brownish tones. MARPAT woodland could also work here, but M81 is too tan IMO

>death valley
More like Rio Grade valley, Albuquerque/Sandias/Monzanos, third world, breaking bad, shithole.

>ATACS FG/AU/UCON depending on season

Great plains tend to have little contrast and camouflage use would need to be near the ground/against a low contrast background. ATACS with its lack of definite edges would especially blend in. AU being a desert pattern would blend in very well during the winter and could also be combined with over whites. The summer variant of the pattern would also be effective as the plains usually have dry and verdant areas mixed together

Great example of a votepost. Added to the running list.

Tbh I've always been dubious on the idea of factoring in tree color for camo selection since you're more likely to be bleding in with ground level flora. But I wanna take people at their word for their respective regions, plus in the era of drone warfare it's probably more important than ever to consider concealment from above.

Also considering whether to store an accompanying text document with info from good voteposts like this to help justify choices in the future for those who are curious or critical

think a larger pattern works for the mix of woodland and grassland in this area. Especially in oak savanna and lowland river plains. High contrast pattern works for moving between conditions and it's equally effective in summer and fall.

I Love my LATPAT M07 dc track pants. Wish Camohq would make a run of LATPAT M17 mp. That would be totally tubular. Then It would complete my Latvian blocky camo collection in Reality.

A skirt would really break up his outline, yet be really slimming to the waistline. Like a man-skirt, a skirman or kilt.
