Hey, so I just mounted this Aimpoint T-2 on a Scalarworks riser on my Colt 6940. It's pretty awesome. I thought some rail covers would be nice, but I'm not sure what to get. Or should I just get some sort of foregrip?
I already know that I need to get rid of the bullet button. I'm a refugee from California. I don't live there anymore, and I already own some 30 round windowed PMAGs now.

Anyway, I would appreciate any of (You)r suggestions.

OK close enough.

belts are tricky and down to personal preference. I usually pick up a trayvax cinch every day but the bfg small cobra buckle belts are nice too. Some people on here suggest the magpul belts but i think they are way too big and shitty. Tier 1 makes the best holsters but t-rex holsters are also very good and they may work better for you depending. The AWS SMU is a good shooting belt if you need one of those. surefire m6xx df is a good light to get. bfg vickers sling is the sling you want.

Other items to start budgeting for:
magpul buis pro $150
sniggers sling on sale $45
surefire m600df $300
an optic $500-$5000
>>
>>62657942
Nah, I don't think there is a way to tune the buffer unless you are going into the recoil tube and manually lopping coils off the spring or something. The only way to do it would be with an adjustable gas block, since even something like a bootleg BCG wouldn't work due to the proprietary bolt carrier.

That said, I've been browsing Practiscore recently and the itch to go back to matches is there. Problem is, I live in California, so it seems the SCR is my only option if I want to be changing magazines and out in public.

Agree with all of the above, prioritize that. Grips are really just salt to taste. I prefer the KAC broomhandle but the attachment method is notably dated and requires you to rip off everything on the bottom rail if you want to take it off for storage. Tango down has a nice QD foregrip.

The only issue is mounting accessories is a pain in the ass so once you have them where you want, you'll just want to leave them there. The rail segments they came with are pretty high profile, and there isn't really an 'ecosystem' for them besides the handful of direct mount stuff IWC made. If you're not switching things around all the time it's rock solid.

Shot both my uppers with the can this weekend. I'm almost entirely certain now that piston uppers are a meme unless you're doing a ton of full auto or extremely high volume of fire courses.

>16" 516 piston upper.
Reduced gas setting resulted in two bolt over brass malfunctions with green tip. Standard gas setting ran without issue. Can must have too little back pressure to make the gun run reliably on the 'suppressor' setting.
>16" DI mid gas upper.
Ran reliably, possibly breathed very slightly more gas but I haven't even done RTV mod or adjustable block and it was indoors so not a problem. Upper maybe got dirtier? I haven't cleaned it in over a year anyway so idk. Didn't impede function, don't care.

Hey A2 do you know how much PSA finishes FN barrels they use in some of their """premium""" uppers, i.e. are they chambering and drilling the gas port or do they come finished? I have read on their forums they come finished, but it could be saving face. I like disassembly and got one on sale a while back, took it apart and it was fine. I gauged it and all, including retorquing the barrel nut. Is there something I should look out for or I might've missed that they're known to fuck up? Does it make mustard gas at a certain round count? Or if I'm fine now I got lucky?

Do you think it's worth having the barrel on my 516 upper chopped to 10.5-12.5"? I was concerned that the port size on the barrel and piston assembly was really intended for the barrel length it came from and that it wouldn't run right if I got it chopped. I've never seen specs for the factory 516 10.5 vs 16" ports.

When you chrome a barrel you deliberately oversize the bore by a given measurement. Then add back that measurement + a bit extra worth of chrome. You then need to lapp the chrome back down to your desired dimensions and surface finish. Chattered ringing fucked up surface finish comes from people not giving enough shits/time about the surface finish and rushing the process.

Some mfgs throw around "FN DOUBLE CHROME" or "M249 CHROME" or "THICK LINING" which denotes they have moved that chrome thickness beyond the milspec minimums for the m4 platform. This can only be done by the barrel OEM who is hammer forging it since the mandrel for the forging will decide that dimension.

Heres a cool industry article about the honing of non chromed barrels on machines

If youre dying to keep it, you can cut it and the can will make up for a lot of that missing gas. Worst case you have to have the port drilled slightly.

The point of that article is to show you pacnor ,a boutique barrel shop that supplies noveske is lamenting manual lapping and trying to replace the manual hand lapping process with machines that lapp the barrels.
PSA is not hand lapping barrels, nor running those machines at a low speed for a flawless finish. They are focusing on speed by running the piss out of the machines which is introducing chatter into their barrels.
