Yeah it's kinda retarded I haven't done anything with it. Griffin finally restocked the Dual Lok flash hider that was OoS for months so I ordered one and it should hopefully show up this week. Still undecided on optic. Maybe after the Athlon gets warrantied I'll throw that on there
>>
>>62696962
get an H&R 14.5 pencil barrel for that carry handle and make it a proper 723. Do something with the super duty
>>
>>62696992
You're going to put the athlon on the g$? What will you do with the block 2 then? I'd leave it on the dd but I still don't know what I would do with the super duty.

I've been thinking about a ta02 on my SD as well. Isn't there another anon running that setup?
>>
>>62697125
>Thought about selling it but idk
Yeah it would be redundant then. You could do like you said and put an acog on the block 2 then have a very lightweight spr with your geissele which would be nice. But that doesn't necessarily warrant keeping the dd. I would keep it because I like them but that's just me.
>>
>>62697151

>>
>>62697194
Well, I killed it by using it on a .350 Legend bolt action rifle, so that's a strike against it. I haven't mailed it back to Athlon yet. It seemed fine though before that, no real complaints. It's baby's first magnified optic so I can't really compare it to anything until now. Used it up to 300 yards fine

Ok, I'll give it a shot. One more thing - since I'm buying a trigger already does the LaRue ACOG mount work for the newer 3.5x35 LED ACOGs or is it specific to the older 4x32? I assume it's the same mounting pattern but if it's not I still have this RCO I could use it with just in case.

Usually a good idea to just get a T2 and G33 and go from there since it’s more useable in a HD / chimp out situation whereas while you can definitely make use of a 2-10 in those situations it’s just easier with a dot,

No. The velocity bump isn't worth it either and the longer barrel is going to whip more making it inherently (slightly) less accurate. Just get a heavier 14.5 or 16".

that about matches what I was reading.
Longer heavier boltgun barrels work because they're stiff, but in smaller guns it's more of a liability because of harmonics.

You take a bunch of metal dust. Spit on it. and squeeze it together. So it makes parts very cheaply but of very low quality/strength.

Its use in firearms was pioneered by Rob Cohen at Kimber firearms! After working heavily on quality firearms at Kimber he moved to Sig Sauer where he converted all sig parts into mim! Bendy bill after observing the savings really decided to cash in and went for mim triggers!

Milspec hammers have a cut plate disconnector, not a mim disconnector. When overgassed your bolt is going to go faster and slam that hammer into the disconnector much faster. This is why they break. Sometimes its the hammer that breaks other times its the disconnector itself.

The cool thing about mim is the consistency is so fucked you will just never know.

I need to figure out a way to compile a list of what suppressors are worth buying or considering for purchase. The data i find about suppressors is all over the place with "reviews" being heavily skewed towards one arbitrary metric.

Weight is a massive deal to me i know you say it doesn't' matter but i lift weights regularly and am fairly strong but holding a heavy gun up for long periods of time is very hard. Ok you are usually resting on gun on something but its still something that should be considered at least a little bit. You aren't putting 5 pound suppressors on rifles right.

Flash/ spark is very important

noise reduction is probably the least given the least weight by me personally but the more the better ceteris paribus

durability/longevity matters but on semi auto rifles i don't know how much it matters in practice or what weight to give this.

as far as i can see the rc2 is good kac cans are good but can get heavy and are very expensive. The b&t cans have very good performance and are very cheap so they seem to be what i am leaning towards these days. I know you mentioned the saker 556k before and some other random cans. Is there anything else that should be added to the list? What specific b&t models are worth looking at for the rifles you suggest in these threads?

There is no universal wear constant, it depends on cadance. barrel material, ammo etc.
When you shoot out a barrel from just sustained semi auto decent cadance fire, not some torture test shit you want to pay attention to muzzle and throat erosion. Throat erosion from the chamber end will decrease accuracy as time goes but if you are just blasting steel/cardboard you likely wont notice it fall off that dramatically. Becomes a question of what your definition of shot out is.
In a precision rifle this will likely occur first and will result in you noticing the barrel is less accurate when shooting groups. This might yield less than acceptable accuracy and meet the criteria for "shot out" for that precision gun.

Muzzle erosion on the other hand will gradually get worse in terms of accuracy until you lose muzzle stability and the projectiles are tumbling at like 10yd. At that point the rifle is probably fairly unsafe to shoot and is shot out regardless of the type of shooting you do. One of my BCM CHF CL barrels for example has about 5" of rifling from the chamber and then 6.5" of smooth bore until the muzzle. This is extreme muzzle erosion and resulted in pic rel. That keyholing happened because the bullet was being gripped and spun unevenly by rifling that was eroding eccentrically toward the muzzle end and after passing through 6.5" of that it had destabilized and ultimately keyholed.
Now if you have a longer barrel there is more rifling (duh) so there is an argument to be made that you will get marginally more stability before it enters that muzzle erosion area of destabilization. But none the less a 14.5 with 6" of eroded rifling is going to be fucked up like an 11.5" with 6" of rifling. That 3" is going to make such a slim margin of improved lifespan imho that I dont think you will be able to quantify it due to material variances and cadence variances.
1/2
>>
>>62699867
>>62699805
2/2
Longer barrels with longer gas systems do suffer less gas port erosion which is nice for longevity but ultimately effects accuracy minimally.

Pic rel, the minimally rifled BCM CHF CL.
>>62699809
For dedicated 16" usage?
You could always OCM5 if your rifle supports that

Personally on my shorter 11.5" I've prioritized 1x close range CQB and passive NVG performance over range and magnification. I just got a G45 Eotech 5x magnifier that I'm still trying out, but I watched some random youtube video where this guy said something that makes sense to me which is that one would rather have a good close range optic up close, and a bad long range optic up far, than a good long range optic up far, and a bad close range optic up close.

Also one should have an SPR or something to grab if one knows that they're dealing with longer ranges and sightlines.

>>62697787
Nice. What reticle on the NX8? Have you found a super low profile magnification throw lever? The included "PTL" from nightforce in the usual spot doesn't fit and work on my setup.
Also have you considered a piggybacked top dot setup for better NVG use?

>>62699156
Nice spread

>>62699716
To an extent. My priorities are just enough dB reduction to substantially reduce shooter fatigue and distracting blast effects on teammates, then flash and spark suppression, then weight and durability. At 100m or 300m the at target sound signature gains from can to can are marginal and don't make much of a difference IMO.

I'm literally at work rn (wfh). Was really counting on some new gun accessories to get me through this case of the Mondays
>>
My foodgroups are:

Concealable pistol. Anything from subcompact to fullsize depending on environment, lifestyle, and body.

The citizens rifle. 12.5-16" barrel 5.56 with a quality optic and ideally suppressor. This does almost anything you could ever want or need.

Long arm. 18-20" 6.5CM or 308 rifle, a highly precise gas gun is preferable but a bolt action will do. Extends effective range far beyond the citizens rifle and dual-purposes as a capable hunting rifle for medium-large game. The right gas gun here also satisfies any DMR/battle rifle use cases.

That's it, it's that simple. Anything else is a range toy or unreasonably niche larp.

Yeah I have a Vortex Impact over 4000 mounted to the side of mine rearwards of the turrets and the PTL would interfere with the Impact. There is a second little threaded hole on the zoom ring, any idea what that is?
>placement doesn't work great for passive
What do you mean? Sell the LaRue and get a Badger, Reptillia, SPUHR, or hell go cheap and light like I did with the PRI ring and top dot setup. If the LaRue is what is holding you back from mounting a top dot, then I would get rid of the LaRue.

Pic related. With the YHM Kurz Ti or I guess a plain taper system (I'm still not sold on them though) you can get a BT Mini 556 K down to pretty absurd length and weight. Absolute smallest lightest 5.56 still acceptable performing can AFAIK on the market that is Inconel. Mine as configured is 4.25" OAL and 9.6oz

Haven't done any support side with it yet honestly. I wear wrap around safety glasses when I'm shooting unless doing long range or NVG. I also run Tubbs flatwire springs (I think that these might have a tiny bit more spring power than a normal carbine spring but I could be wrong) and H1, H2, or H3 buffers in almost all my guns. FWIW I haven't had any suppressor induced malfunctions with the PrintX Mini 556K and I'm probably around 500 rounds through it now.
Hard to gauge back pressure really because I just don't pay that much attention to that metric personally. I haven't noticed any gas to face issues, but I'm not really looking, and like I said I wear safety glasses.

Then do 12.5 instead if you live in some sort of cramped urban nightmare realm and see yourself going through such doorways, or fancy yourself as doing HOT VEHICULAR DISMOUNTS or whatever fantasy has convinced you 4 extra inches makes or breaks you. I did say 12.5-16" after all, and clearly whatever your environment is matters.

I genuinely don't understand this position unless you live in comblock style housing projects or something. It's shorter than my 24" bolt action which I have hiked miles and miles with in pursuit of elk and moose.

checked and based optics selections.
I would get the T2 + g33 on something shorter and suppress it but I find that it's already hard enough to gizmomaxx a 14.5 with lasers, lights, and pressure pads for night vision use so I can only imagine the suck trying to that with 4-5 inches less rail space
>>
>>62700805
that you are adding weight and length that you don't need for something within the context of red dot + magnifier / night vision active aiming shooting.

Is there any way to get the M340DFT Pro body by itself? I don't want the head. Are there airshit M340DFT Pro scout lights? Would a normal 600DF head or PLHV2 head work on an M430DFT Pro body?

Any other options for swivel 18350 bodies for use with a PLH V2? Any other 18350 compatible heads to consider or is the PLHV2 still the best balance of throw and spill?
>>62700804
So I have not done enough low light evaluation with it yet to really make a final call. I will tonight, promise. I put like 300 rounds of M193 through it recently and it was producing sparks when shooting the M193, but I have a feeling that is shitty M193 spitting out unburn powder. That is going to happen regardless of can. I don't know for sure but I'm confident with better powder and ammo if performs acceptably (near zero flash). Ask A2 he also might know.

For your info, the weight of the can sans any mount (just hub threads) is 8.5oz and it will be 4" OAL.

>>62700805
>I don't understand why a long gun is an issue!
>Only considering hiking gun around
Cars? Buildings? Also even at intermediate distances in suburban areas, not to mention urban, being able to quickly and repeatedly with minimal fatigue bring the rifle up to presentation plus sight picture is very important.
If you're just hiking it around slung and don't need to ready up it as fast as possible because you're about to taking incoming rounds... well yeah, of course you don't mind a 16" AR with a can.

I'd argue there are plenty enough benefits to a 16" for the average person. For that added weight and length you get
>no NFA/p+w hassle
>extra velocity
>better performance with a suppressor
A reasonable trade imo.
>>62700857
I'm not gonna argue your points, but the whole premise here is that this is a civilian rifle. Needing a compact, manueverable rifle is just not realistic and in most scenarios where it would be an issue a handgun will do just fine.
>>62700869

>>
>>62701116
Nta but how do you do that with an 11.5? I want it to run suppressed and unsuppressed, and my choice of hand guards don’t play with adjustable gas systems (which are gay as fuck anyway) because hand guards that would work flex like bendy bills member

Are tripods not heavy? I kind of assumed they would have to be in order to be functional. I need some hands on experience before I buy in. What I'm having a hard time with is understanding how you would set it up and employ it. What is the situation where you find someone to shoot and have time to get your tripod out before they move to cover or simply walk out of your field of view? Is it for ambushing a static target?
>>
>>62701265
Some are some are not it's mostly the ball heard or the arca thing that weighs but cheap ones are obviously heavier too, you can get a lightweight tripod that has a hook and hang a pack off it to weight it down.
