>>62765530Less barrel whip, possibly more consistent or less severe heat stringing, overall more accurate barrel potential. Also some ban states require hbar so you can't install le ebil grenade launcher or bayonet. Honestly it's not necessary for spr unless you're literally splitting hairs. Any well made and lapped taper barrel will work fine, as G$ already showed.

>>62765571They do, and flat triggers are gay
>>62765579when i was noob i thought thick barrels were retarded for AR15's. but since everyone is free floating these days barrel rigidity is way more important. especially since everyone is also suppressing which makes the barrel wobble/harmonics problem even worse. most dudes will shoot a 5 shot group from cold and think everything is fine. ive seen a lot of guns that heatstring horribly or go to 6MOA after 2 mags.

>>62765383Okay so I'm conflicted. I used to HATE eotechs, vehemently. The thermal drift shit, the lying about the thermal drift shit, the not fixing the thermal drift shit, the thermal drift cope card... The size, the weight, the COST. Can't switch reticles, battery life SUCKS. They're not that durable. But now that I'm prioritizing passive NVG aiming more, they're more attractive. IMO the Holosun AEMS does really really well both objectively and for its pricepoint for passive NVG aiming, but the Eotech is just slightly better. What really has me thinking Eotech now is that I got a G45 magnifier. I like it, simple as, BUT the AEMS dot is a pretty shitty mess under magnification, and the messy dot feels like the main limit to POA precision when using the AEMS and G45 combination. I looked at my EXPS 3-4 which is on my SBS VP12 shotgun through the G45, and I was very pleased with how much more precise the POA is with the Eotech dot vs the AEMS.Is the more previse POA under magnification, and the slightly better passive NVG performance worth the size, weight, reduced battery life, non-switchable reticles, reduced reliability and durability, and the increased cost?I really don't know. >>62765587>I'm not paying attention to grammar nor spelling If correct grammar and spelling aren't legitimately a matter of passive consideration in your mind, then you are indeed low IQ. >mogged by markOkay maybe you're actually just a poet>>62765706Some things are as old as time
>>62765597Should take that cold bore shot, dump the mag in the berm, then shoot 4 more. See where you're really at.
>>62765705You could, but I wouldn't
>>62765712Eotechs are one of the things which sound stupid on paper until you actually use them.
>>62765597I’ve seen this. SPRs should have a heavy barrel imo. I wish the KACs profile was a bit heavier but I haven’t had any issues with it stringing.
>>62765706Same as it ever was, same as it ever wasSame as it ever was, same as it ever wasSame as it ever was, same as it ever wasSame as it ever was, same as it ever was
Anyone here have a Velos K? Wondering how it performs on 10.3
https://youtu.be/QLfAd6aG9FE is this the average AR-15 and competition enjoyer in 2024?
>>62765735I wouldn’t. The difference in flash performance between the full size and K is nuts. The K is very flashy while the full size is literally better than an RC2. If you want something around K sized on a 10.3-11.5 look at the CAT WB otherwise get the full sized velos.
>>62765735Velos K is probably a solid choice can based off of all the reviews I've seen and read, especially if you're already into ASR. It is a bit heavy though. Check out the CAT WB, and also I just learned about these the other day, FOR Systems Monarch Recce Inconel. I haven't used or heard or shot or held ANY of these cans, but they seem solid in terms of what I'm seeing/reading on the interbutts. >>62765726All barrels should be fluted IMO>>62765725It is conflicting for sure. >>62765730How is Arizona? Did you know New Mexico literally has the lowest average IQ of any state in the ENTIRE union? And that is with Intel, Los Alamos, Sandia, AFRL, and the Air Force base inflating the numbers...
>>62765743Can you not, please
>>62765763I think that one is an actual woman
>>62765712Why not a t2? Tbh I’d use an sro with a jagerworx shroud thing before I’d use an eotech
>>62765769Eh. T2s aren't bad. Not my favorite. Expensive, and the "frame" of the window, the housing and the battery/brightness knob, occludes a fair bit of the FOV, plus the glass isn't the most color neutral, not that the AEMS is better. >sro with jagerworx shroudInteresting take. Why would you take that over an Eotech? Eotech reliability?SRO certainly is going to give you the best "floating dot" look.
>>62765761monarch recce performs almost exactly the same as the CAT WB I could barely tell the difference.

>>62765780You heard both? That is super cool, really. On what hosts? Do tell more. The Monarch Recce is lighter than shorter than the WB I believe, plus I like the feel of the company a lot more. >>62765783I think I've got nearing 15k rounds through my two iterations of Roland specials and I like em, simple as. Am curious though, what are you thinking these days for "sidearm"? >>62765785>A2 pre covfefe bullysmdh>>62765790>sigger memes asideNo such thing. There is no redeeming of sig. >>62765792>roach spray and alcohol pottery
>>62765790That's just a holomeme 512 in a box tho
>>62765712i think eotechs are fine, my only issue with them has been weight and the fact that they auto-off which is bad for a bedside gun. But for NV theyre great, even better than a T2. and theyre the only truly viable way to run a magnifier imo.
>>62765712>>62765725The T2 is better for NV passive aiming and I am willing to die on this hill.>eotech gives you a massive 68 moa ring with a dot inside of it that obscures targets >T2 is a simple dot Passive aiming is also very finicky. The dot might look good then you put it over a target and it washes out completely. The EOtech requires you to fuck around with the up/down buttons which you can't see and are hard to manipulate if you're wearing gloves. The T2 just gives you a basic dial. You turn it towards you or away from you there's nothing to fuck up and it won't kick you out of NV mode into daylight mode if you press the wrong thing. Take the battery life out of it because both are long enough that it's a dumb thing to care about. CR123s aren't hard to come by and it's not hard to change a battery. If someone can't handle routine battery maintenance their opinion is irrelevant. The T2 is still >significantly lighter>significantly easier to adjust brightness on the fly >doesn't change zero based on temperature >better for night vision use >a way more practical and less annoying reticle to deal with>more versatile as it can be used as a secondary sighting system on a prism/scope set upTry both and make your own opinion but in my experience with using both I will likely never go back to the eotech because it doesn't offer me any benefits whatsoever to the T2
>>62765778No tint, barely visible frame, actually looks good under magnifier, light weight, I don’t mind open emitters on rifles ymmv, I trust the durability of it with the shroud as much as anything shy of an aimpoint/elcan/acog, the glass isn’t gonna delam
>>62765743Gonna have to watch this later
>>62765811>weightReally>>62765828Eokek big windowThat's the only advantage for passive
>>62765828Tbh less glass surface on t2 also a nicer experience.>MUH GLASS CLARITY MUDDAFUKKAYou know whats even more clear than eotech glass that has been spattered with mud and shit all day? Nothing at allT2 is based and so is this post, case closed.>>62765838>muh window muddafukkkkkaRetard alert
>>62765761>How is Arizona? Like anywhere else, there's parts that are super nice and some areas that are trash. Overall it's pretty good. Phoenix is growing a lot which kinda blows, but means consistent work. Lots of ranges, and areas to shoot in the desert 30minutes from the city.
>>62765450I take one (1) day out of the week (not even as OP) and your reaction is "Go back"? I've had it with this unfair treatment
>>62765805Both on the same 11.5 using rearden hub mount. They perform about the same when it comes to sound and backpressure but I know for a fact the CAT WB does spectacularly with flash while I haven’t seen the monarch recce at night yet.
>>62765838>Really11.2 ounces for a red dot. thats almost acog weight
>>62765811>only truly viable way to run a magnifierYeah I think I'm starting to think similar, especially for a higher magnification magnifier, 4x or 5x. >auto-off which is bad for a bedside gunGood point actually>weightHonestly not my biggest gripe with them. My biggest gripe is reliability and durability>>62765828>T2 better for NV passiveBetter than what? An eotech? Why? The ring obscuring is a fair point, but when it comes to obscuring targets, the T2 housing isn't great either >Buttons vs dialFair point. Adjusting dot brightness during passive NVG is definitely important. I haven't messed with my EXPS brightness settings while under NVG wearing gloves. I have with the AEMS and it is definitely a bitch. >routine battery maintenance Confirmed not fantasizing about SHTF enough, but not an unfair point. ">significantly lighter>significantly easier to adjust brightness on the fly>doesn't change zero based on temperature>better for night vision use>a way more practical and less annoying reticle to deal with>more versatile as it can be used as a secondary sighting system on a prism/scope set up"Good points, really>>62765834Fugg. It is hard to say. I need to get another EXPS anyway for a CQBR "Block 2.5" build so I can try it on that. >>62765857Very cool, thanks
>>62765854I appreciate your work, pastebinanon
>>62765761>all barrels should be fluted I agree with that statement. I’m amazed more don’t esp seeing KAC has begun to dimple their barrels
>>62765785The last time I tried to make smoke I was 13 years old and bought salt peter from the CVS pharmacist. The pot overheated and ignited the mix sending molten sugar all over my arm. General idea is perforated copper tube down the middle and ignition from the bottom up, correct? Where to source canisters and pull pin tops?
>>62765877Simple cost of mfg>>62765867>the T2 housing isn't great eitherTotal area of NV obscured is greater on eotech. The fabled "big window" + housing is significantly larger area than > Tiny T2 window + housing (duh). In a clean room yes the glass makes marginal difference, but bad news bro you outside.Strongest point for eotech is the aiming point that approaches infinity but it becomes hard to modulate for precision with the 65moa retard ring around it.
>>62765874Thanks, KC~
>>62765897thats why you buy the single-dot model eotechs. not the ring reticle eotechs
>>62765867I really don’t understand clone builds, I just wanna roll my own to suit my needs (which are really just wants)
>>62765834Mud will come to visit your open emitter>>62765842A bigger window is a bigger windowThat's the only redeeming quality
>>62765922It’s all about getting raw operator cred and getting to call everything that isn’t some gwot clone a reddit build
>>62765867>...but when it comes to obscuring targets, the T2 housing isn't great either nigga have you ever used nods? there is no visible housing > I haven't messed with my EXPS brightness settings while under NVG wearing gloves.yeah wait until you do it's fucking retarded. The most useful aspect of training with nods is nothing to do with learning your LAM holds at 10y and everything to do with finding out how much something sucks to use in the dark and then fixing it or replacing it with something that doesn't. >Confirmed not fantasizing about SHTF enough, but not an unfair point. In the time it takes for le boogaloo meme to manifest you could spend so much time training with any red dot that you memorized the reticle and holds and don't even need a battery anymore.>Yeah I think I'm starting to think similar, especially for a higher magnification magnifier, 4x or 5x. Turn the brightness down / adjust diopter and if that's still not good enough for you then just accept the reality that it's bad practice to pick the inferior red dot which you are using 95% of the time by itself so you can have a slightly less shitty experience when using the magnifier the other 5% of the time. Also, just use a G33
>>62765915That's why you just get a T2 instead of taking 3 lefts to make a right
>>62765944I would want an open emitter on a holstered/concealed handgun but I’ve never had an issue with them outside of a fucking blizzard and all I had to do was wipe it off. I don’t know what’s wrong with me but I think I like shooting in fucked up weather more than a nice sunny day
>>62765953>magnifiermost red dots blob out or just perform like shit under magnification. even the t2 is kinda mid. eokek does work better with a magnifier. magnifiers cockblock passing aiming even when folded down so i dont use them.
>>62765712>switchable reticleGod you're such a fucking joke.
>>62765894>Sugar mixAll sugar based smokes (milx, iwa , taggin, etc) are wholly inferior chemical compositions that are literally only for toy smoke grenades anon. They sell you it because its much harder to die of inhaling sugar smoke in an enclosed space. The hot nature of sugar and fast burn rate gives you a wispy smoke that wants to blow up and away almost immedaitely. Fucking TERRIBLE for screening. Airsoft smokes are airsoft optic tier.Proper M8/M18s use/used HC (Hexachloroethane) rather than sugar base. Pro of HC is that it pulls moisture out of the air around you to make the mixture cooler and more dense. HC sits over the ground like a thick peasoup fog and is blowing. Now the downside of HC is that when inhaled it will react with the water in your lungs and form acid resulting in you dying in an enclosed space. Like couple people die every other year from setting off an M18 indoors and just zonking out. As a solution a lot are moving to TA based smoke which burns Terephthalic Acid over a simple oxidizer. Resulting smoke is basically just CO and formaldehyde but is drastically thicker. Cooking up TA is also a lot easier and safer in home lab quantities. Housing wise its shrimple. You print a PETG housing and line it with an ablative cardboard tubing inner. Think section of poster tube within a plastic can. Prime and strike with a simple mechanism to some doped time fuse. Easy ignition and production fully inhouse vs relying on surplus/fired housings from gunbroker.>>62765944it shrimply isnt. Bigwindow posting originated from PVS14 mounted behind the optic allowing for a greater FOV thru the PVS14 than the M68 CCO it was replacing. You doing that?
>>62765974There's no way around magnifiers not sucking and I just don't see how a slightly less worse experience with the magnifier which really shouldn't be used that much anyway justifies having a much worse experience the vast majority of the using the dot as intended. If we are caring so much for low/intermediate magnification then red dot wasn't the right choice and we should consider other options.
>>62765973Wouldnt***
>>62765790Technically true because the eotech is not a red dot iz a lay-sir>>62765799They don't know what that means. They don't know it's a selling point on the eotech, they also sit in their room look at the reticle and complain that it looks fuzzy.
>>62765990It's easier to passive through a bigger windowIt just changes the skill floorThe rest of it is a mess with the huge ring obscuring the target
>>62766016Do you often have issues lining the red dot up with your head during the day?
>>62765973i had a open emitter holosun508T for awhile, it was on a G17 and whenever it rained, the dot would fill with water. it wouldnt work until i shook it out. i think open emitter is best for CCW's. Definitely not for open carry though>>62765999most people who think magnifiers suck ass, used either a standard red dot, or used a cheap magnifier. the only time they objectively suck is in bad weather because you have a quad lens stack that amplifies the mist/fogging problem.
>>62766031NoLenses being offset from your face 4" can introduce a parallax factor
>>62766049>Parallax from nodsReally anon? You line your head up with the dot by looking at the red dot? Close your eyes, bring the rifle up and then open your eyes. Where does it end up?If its not centered on your eye you have an actual training/skill issue and need to hit the range. If it is centered, why are you worried about a big window? You would never accept "heh just gotta move the ol head around, maybe get some new irons that are physically larger!" on a pistol draw stroke. Why are you doing it on a rifle ?
>>62765376Had a round that was extra spicy and shot out a huge fire ball and now my rifle wont group at 50 yards.

>>62765877Saved image>a very stumpy finKek. Look at this picture of this "fluted" Deadshot barrel. No thanks. >>62765897Total area greater but that total area is further from the important real estate. Also I'm not 100% sure but I think with a basic ray optics analysis you can argue that the larger area window allows more light into the tube that is right behind the optic, at least more light of interest that is coming from around/near the target.>>62765922Clone builds are about fun and aesthetics and history. At their worst they're about "stamp collecting". I like both cloning and modern optimized builds with zero attention paid to aesthetics. >>62765953>no visible housingThere is the blurry outline of housing, and the area down range that is obscured by said blurry outline. On a T2 that blurry outline is closer to the target area of interest, and on an Eotech that blurry window frame is further away from the target area of interest. On an SRO that blurry window frame basically goes to zero area because the frame is so thin. >LAM holds at 10yYeah I don't care much about this>sucks to use in the darkI agree entirely, this is the main thing you're learning. >turn brightness downTurned it way way down, still messy. If it is 95% vs 5% then yeah who cares about the messy dot under magnification, but it might not necessarily be 95/5. Might be 50/50. I simply don't know. >>62765974> magnifiers cockblock passing aiming even when folded down so i dont use them.I was messing with this the other evening. It definitely bumps, but IMO IME it wasn't unusable. That being said as you NOD up, you could easily QD the magnifier off.
I need tripod reccs
>>62766114>dot focused>skill issue>etcNot sure how many times we have to go in circles on this. The larger the optic, the bigger cone you've got to work around "skill issues" and awkward positions. The dot I normally use for passive is even smaller than T2. It's simple physics that a bigger window gives you better flexibility for passive.
>>62766100Badger for sure>>62766143>>62766134On a handgun they help a ton>>62766162Also I believe that in terms of light collection, the larger aperture legitimately increases brightness of the target area
>>62766154>Total area greater but that total area is further from the important real estateExactly, who gives a shit about it ? >>62766134Give me the enclosed emitter>>62766175>Also I believe that in terms of light collection, the larger aperture legitimately increases brightness of the target areaIts still a red dot wugger, you should still seek target focus with superimposed reticle drifting across it.
Window size doesn’t matter much on a rifle since you have additional points of contact that let you maintain consistent positioning behind the red dot. On a handgun you do not so when doing dynamic shooting it’s easier to lose the red dot. A2 will argue against this.

This works. We also know that it is inferior to having an actual window that the dominant eye can see through. Less mentally taxing, less emphasis and reliance placed upon the superimposition process in the mind. Now lets go further along the spectrum, I think we can agree that a magical floating red dot with ZERO occlusion from any sort of window or window frame would be the most ideal, and afford the least amount of reliance on mental superimposition etc etcI am arguing that while completely occluded works, it is the most inferior, and while completely un-occluded is impossible, it is the most superior, so that we ought to seek a red dot solution that is further towards the impossible but wholly superior state than the possible and wholly inferior end of the spectrum. For real an SRO thing with a closed emitter and a vibranium hood would be good. The new Holosun 507 Competition thing or the RMR HD all show that there is a big preference for window frames that are further from the center of the window. >>62766183No A2 is arguing in favor of this. >>62766238Really gets noggin joggin

This might sound retarded, but I genuinely believe there is a positive psychological effect to using iron sights. They're always on, never run out of batteries, have no potential for electronics failure, and barring some insane abuse, will always retain zero. They don't get washed out by a white light. I own many optics and appreciate the advantages they offer, but I've been thinking a lot lately about what frame of mind I'd be in if I actually had to use my rifle, and I think I'd feel a lot more confident with iron sights than I would with a dot, god forbid an EOtech or LPVO. Does anyone else's brain work like this? If I really had to grab a gun I think I'd instinctively grab the one with nothing but a sling, irons, and a light.
